Yeah, Batwoman is pretty great. One of the most consistently good New 52 books for sure. Batman was good at first, but Death of the Family was so anticlimactic. Batman Inc and Batman & Robin are more my cup of tea. I teared up over the silent issue. Babs was a million times better as Oracle. Simone's done good work before, but I really feel she's been consistently bad with this one.

I'm LIKING most of the Bat Books in the new 52 actually, especially Batwoman.
Also, anything written by Scott Snyder is gold. Court of Owls was amazing as was Death of the Family.
Woah woah woah. Court of Owls was great, but Death of the Family was absolutely terrible. Where was this actual death of the family? None of them came round for dinner and that seems to be it. There has been much more of a shake up in the family after the effects of Batman Inc which is fantastic. As is Batman & Robin.
Death of the Family was such an anticlimax after all of the hype built up around it.
-
10 issues into Batgirl right now and I'm still not seeing why its supposedly so bad.
also, the reveal in Batgirl #19 has been foreshadowed no less than 3 times thius far. Nice.
-
So how's going octi in spiderman body or is everthing back to normal?
-
Oh man, I love Batwoman, I've read the first two volumes. Great book.

I think what Snyder was going for was for the Bat-Family to fall apart a bit? I haven't read it, but I've seen a bit of it and the after math and that seem to have been his goal, but the interactions in other books apparently ruin that.

Okay, I hate talking about books from my publisher Antarctic Press, because it always feels awkward… even when I'm being legitimately enthusiastic about something. When I say Fables or Invincible are good, its all fine and well because I'm impartial... but if it happens to be a book where I know the creator and have even worked on it... well, it feels different, and like shilling. But this is a case where I have to draw attention to something.
Gold Digger issue 200 hits stores this week. (Or maybe the week after… but we have copies now.) 200 issues written, drawn, and lettered by one man, Fred Perry over the last 22 years. (And from 51 on when the series switched from black and white he also colored them) Its an achievement unmatched by anyone in the comic industry. Stan Sakai has done 202 issues of Usagi Yojimbo and a couple Space Usagi's, but those are black and white. Eric Larsen is at 187 on Savage Dragon and artist on a bunch of other books, but he's had other people letter it and only colored an issue or two. Dave Sim did 300 issue sof Cerberus... but had someone else draw all the backgrounds... and it was black and white.
Plus during that time Fred's done almost 100 more spinoff GD specials, and written/drawn dozens more books, (generally he does two books a month, sometimes three) animated an hour long film by himself, written 3 novels... the man is a truly prolific beast, and needs more respect and recognition in the industry.
And, if you've never read Gold Digger before? For the next few months at least, AP is offering the first 199 issues online for free.

It really is a great book, an action/adventure/comedy/romance/sci-fi/kung fu/mecha/parody/superhero/little bit of everything sort of book, worth checking out, from THE hardest working man in comics. It needs a few more eyeballs on it.

I will have a read of that soon for definite - looks great. Anyone have any theories when/if peter parker will return?
-
So how's going octi in spiderman body or is everthing back to normal?
I see we give the same treatement to this as dragon ball gt since no one answer my question.

Ock destroyed the last remnants of that slacker Parker today.

So it's okay have his body swaped by a enemy and said enemy takes advantage by having sex with spider girlfriend but GOD FORBID he being married and all the characther development he had just because they want him the way he started and what is the point of saving is aunt by making a deal with the devil if next thing they do is to erase him.
-
He never had sex with MJ. They only shared one kiss and they broke it off soon after.

I thought i read it somewere but the rest of my post stil stands that they love to screw with spiderman and anything nice that happens to him appears a worst one just for the sake of screwing with him and forcing drama.
-
It's a great comic. Who cares if Peter gets screwed over? We know he'll ultimately get his amazing victory at the end of this storyline.
-
Tell me that when he beat's the devil.

Do you have some good american non super hero comic book recommendations for me besides y the last man, preacher, scott pilgrim, walking dead and transmetropolitan?

Gold Digger.
See my above post on the matter. You can even read the first 199 issues free, as presented by the actual company rather than a fan bootleg.

I can't get over Greg Capullo's art. I read Batman vol.1: the Court of Owls again…It's so amazing.

I know you asked for something non-super hero, but Empowered is sort of a different take on the genre. It's one of my favorites.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I don't mind you recommending me a superhero comic(american manga in this case),when i said non superhero i just wanted people to avoid recommending me marvel or dc universe stuff. -

Hope ya like it. It gets really good at times, even though several of the ongoing gags(pun intended) do run into the ground.
I wish I could reccomend a little more, but I haven't read much paperback issues of anything in a long time. Webcomics is more my forte.
(oh yeah, Jeff Smith's Bone is pretty fun. I haven't caught up with it yet, but I liked the issues I read)
-
Early bone is magical. It's a solid outing all together but the first few volumes are superb
-
Saga is the best ongoing right now. Better space opera than Star Wars.

100 Bullets, by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso is very good.
-
Webcomics is more my forte.
What are some good webcomics with a continuing storyline? Preferably something like One Piece story-wise, where the scale gets bigger and bigger as it goes on and less like DC and Marvel's stuff. I prefer that over a bunch of story arcs that don't lead into anything.
Actually while we are on the topic of that, that's the main reason why I just can't get into comics at the moment… there aren't any good starting places that I know of (I would like to start at the beginning but its so daunting) and there will never be an ending.

Saga is so god damn good, haven't been so hyped every time a new issue was released since ever.

Sure. I'll message you a few in your profile :)

I'm finally caught up in the New 52 Bat Books.
Batwoman is clearly the best of all of them followed closely by Court of Owls. Nightwing is pretty good too, and Batman Inc was very good, tho I don't know how to feel about…
! The Death of Damien Wayne.
I feel there's a lot more that could have been done with the character honestly. But yeah, good stuff.
Wasn't a fan of Batgirl at first, mostly because the concept of Barbara Gordon NOT being Oracle anymore pissed me off, but getting over it, it's an OK Book. Not on Batwoman or Court of Owls level, but not horrible either.
Death of the Family I thought was good but ended a little too soon. I think there should have been one more issue and the final confrontation should have been a little more grand.
! It also may have been better to have had the Joker be the one to kill Damien, and reveal that Talia was involved in the background. That would have served the same purpose but would have been far grander. I mean, it would have been a WONDERFUL finale of that to find out the endgame was the death of Batman's Son.
Going forward, the reveal in Batgirl 19 has all my attention on that book (Even if the conclusion of the James Jr. Storyline revealed that his motivations were… somewhat lacking) and Batwoman has me VERY intreagued as it has all along. Batman Inc too.

Only three more weeks till the greatest comic release of the year, X-MEN #1: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=16373
Writte by a much more formidable author than Gail Simone or J.H. Williams III (who should stick to drawing).
-
I picked up the first 6 issues of the current FF. I have to say its pretty great so far. She-Hulk is great as usual. I really like Darla so far, and I really like the storyline with Scott is still mad at Doom from the ending of the Avengers: Children Crusade. I do reccomend FF.

I read the first volume of the New 52 Teen Titans by Scott Lobdell.
I hate it. I hate it so much.
Scott Lobdell butchers Tim and Cassie. He butchered Superboy in his own title, too.
I hate that Cass has no connection whatsoever to Wonder Woman and doesn't want to be called Wonder Girl–that's just stupid, not to mention her costume is barely similar to Diana's. Also, she's a teenager. How in the hell does she impersonate a nurse??? And in a "nurse" outfit a porn star would wear WTF.
Bunker and Solstice are two characters I actually like, except Bunker is such a stereotype, shouting "Ay carumba" and "Dios mio" all the time. What is even going on with Kid Flash. He knows his own name, but he doesn't know anything about himself. He could search public records or something and find Barry I dunno.
Also this N.O.W.H.E.R.E. organization is so stupid and so '90s. Hell, the boss-man has those stupid glasses like he is from the '90s.
Oh, DC must agree because a review on the back of the freaking book TALKS ABOUT HOW IT IS LIKE THE '90S.
Brett Booth is an OKAY artist, but--ohyes--his art is soooooooooo '90s.
All the characters are snarky, rude, sarcastic. I've never seen a teenager act like any of these, and I'm still in high school!
I just hate Lobdell as a writer and I know that when I read his Superman run I will hate that.
DC's attempts to somehow neutralize Lobdell's writing with Rocafort's art (they only put him on Lobdell books WTF) are useless.
Godammit, defending the New 52 is getting hard! -
Does Batman Beyond Unlimited count as "New 52"? Because if so, there's another awesome New 52 book.

The solicitations consider it as "Beyond the New 52" so it's not really considered with the "New 52."

Although Terry's suit did make an appearance in Batman #20.
-
I read a couple good one's recently…including Marvels The End, Fantastic Four, and Nate Grey

Since I haven't posted around these parts in forever here's a little rundown of my monthly pull list:
Mind MGMT: When I got back from traveling earlier this year, I decided to temporarily stop reading this series due to the fact I couldn't find issue 4 at any comic store in my area and it was out of print everywhere I looked. Fortunately enough my girlfriend found me a ripped and mangled copy from a dollar bin and it's back on my list. This series really is brilliant and seems to make such a non-linear story quite easy and straight forward to follow. I know a lot of people won't really enjoy Kindt's art but the use of water colours really accentuation the weird yet beautiful nature to this Invisibles meets LOST meets Super Spy story. The first trade just came out from Dark Horse but there is quite a bit of extra content featured inside the single issues which Kindt says won't ever be reprinted in any other format. It's a rather seclusive gimmick but it works.
Dial H: This is bar none the best DC book to grace the New 52, and thus, like everything else in this reboot, it has been thrown to the side in favor for another Bat-book. It's a real shame this gem is getting cancelled at issue 16, China Mieville is writing this series like a 90s Vertigo book. Every issue gives me the same creative energy that something like Milligan's Shade the Changing Man or Morrison's Doom Patrol were praised about back in their day. I think the problem of this book came from the advertising department, in the fact that there was simply no publicity for it. It would be interesting to see how this book would have fared if it was relaunched besides Animal Man and Swamp Thing during the New 52 reboot or even a Vertigo title as Karen Berger was the editor opposed to the Second Wave, which it seems has feel flat.Animal Man: This book was once praised as DC's answer to Waid's Daredevil. Now sadly, its lost its momentum and has moved into the realm of forgettable. The last three issues have been great but I think the Rotworld crossover killed so much that was going for it. Cautiously optimistic for this one.
Swamp Thing: I hated Scott Snyder's direction during the Rotworld crossover for this series. It was simply too long, jarring and anti-climactic. If Charles Soule didn't take over this would have been dropped but the new direction is a breath of fresh air. Soule seems to be channeling into what makes a good Swamp Thing story, not a good comic book story, but a Swamp Thing story. I know its only two months in but I can feel something good coming in the horizon. I want to love new Swamp Thing, Alan Moore made him one of my favorite comic characters, so I am willing to give this run a shot.

Can we talk about how Stormwatch basically said "to hell with everything" and rebooted itself extremely sloppily?
I feel kinda cheated considering I read the first 18 issues (after the whole big company-wide reboot!!!!!!) and now they don't matter anymore. Never mind the fact that it's now something that seems literally pulled out of the 90s in its art- even the logo was 90sfied.
-
Oh god this scene from Green Lantern #20, is so frickin beautiful.
!

I dropped the series about 8 months back. Peter Milligan may be my favorite writer but this series felt like he was simply tired and fed up with editorial, and frankly didn't care.
My suggestion is to read Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers. It's something I look forward to every issue and essentially Stormwatch in a mainstream universe done right.
-

Well the series always had its flaws, but I really liked the characters and felt there was such great potential there. It's what kept me reading, hoping they'd finally be utilized well.
As for Avengers/New Avengers, I'll look into it. Is that one of those MarvelNOW titles?
-
I dropped Avengers. It gave zero fucks about the characters in it and only focused on high-concept nonsense and technobabble. Hickman wants to write about everything except the Avengers. New Avengers is still great though.
-
I love specifically for the fact that it isn't about the quintessential Avengers. Hickman has said in interviews that those characters have their own solo books to develop in and frankly it's boring to read about characters so popular that you can never mess with their ever-prevalent status quo.
Avengers has some great world building and a clear overarching story. I thought coming from a manga forum, many would enjoy this more than most superhero books on the market because it is all about introducing high concepts, pushing new ground and developing new characters from the ground up. Once this three year story finishes I probably won't continue with the title unless something equally ambitious comes around. I've always been more interested in Vertigo (and now indie) compared to Marvel/DC because everything feels so vanilla, melodramatic and trope filled. Give me a Morrison or a Hickman any day.
-
So i bought cable and deadpool is this one of the ones were deadpool is better written (Still hasn't read it because Smiley group is about to start).
-
FF is keep getting better and better. In my opinion its the best current Marvel series. I really like the main team of Ant-Man, She-Hulk, Darla, and Medusa. Its a pretty much a fun series.
-
X-Men #1 was the best read of the month. As expected.
-
I love X-Men #1 also. My favorite book is still Young Avengers. I was hoping he would add Hope and Spider-Girl. I like Kieron Gillen's Hope Summers. One of the few writers I see that try to give her a purpose.
-
I thought X-Men 1 was good but not the 5 star pitch perfect book that most reviewers are stating it to be. Was mostly setup with some good interactions but a tad jarring for people who have not read an X-title in a long time. Still, I'll keep at it for the long haul.
Avengers/New Avengers is still my favorite NOW title.
-
I don't get to read a ton of recent comics but I read reviews and stuff.
I'm kinda stuck in the past but
JACK KIRBY'S FOURTH WORLD IS SO AMAZING.
ORION AND LIGHTRAY'S FRIENDSHIP!
Jimmy Olsen being awesome!
Darkseid's master plot!
KIRBY'S SUPERMAN OHHHHHHHH.I just love it all so much.
-
Any good comics you reccomend I've read kick Ass 1 & 2, Watchmen and V for vendetta.
-
Depends on what your interest are? I can only recommend what I normally read monthly and majority of those book are from Marvel.
My cousin loves Avengers/New Avengers he likes the buildup to something bigger about happen. I would give X-Men #1 four stars for what I read. I liked it, because I have a pretty good understanding of most X-Men books now. It has that same feeling of something big is going to happen. Hopefully the X-Men Crossover event don't slow down any momentum.
