SE forgot about Tacitcs this year:

Kato: (laugh) It is. We haven't thought about it.

Some Square Enix news from there finical reports:
Final Fantasy XV was the biggest contributer to SE this year, which is a shock since SE had quite low expectations for it early on.
Nier went above their expectations and they will now outsource mid tier titles to other developers while major title are made in house.
SE views GaaS model (Destiny, Overwatch etc) as the mainstream model of gaming in the future. Their HD games segment (traditional console/handheld and PC games, mobile and MMO's are a desperate division) will focus on this for some titles going forward. Wouldn't be surprised if Dissida becomes this and next FF's games have more multiplayer/co-op elements to them. -

A new Mana game would fall right in line with that.

Big FF7R news, CC2 drop and FF7R is going to be developed fully internally.
“So far, development (for FFVIIR) has been carried out mainly with the support of external partners. However, in view of factors such as improving quality when the product goes into mass production in the future, the company has decided to shift the developmental system back to within the company, so as to maintain a stable schedule and have control over factors such as quality. We will be forming a robust system within the company to properly carry out the development.”
This explains SE BD1 asking doing recruitment.
Lol this isn't going to make it to 2019.

Dissidia Arcade has been leaked for PS4 by Amazon as Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, releasing in early 2018
We're getting Noctis with the console launch, along with a story mode written by veteran writer/human coin flip Kazushige Nojima
-
-
My boy Noctis better be good and have his older form as an alt.
-
I have watched like 30+ trailers of this game, and I still have no idea what the mechanics are outside of what I know from the original Dissidia games.
-
Yaye, we're finally getting what probably should have been a launch title and out like 3 years ago?
And really it should have been on the PS3 like 6-8 years ago.
I dunno. It's just hard to get excited over what was definitely a fantastic game that I want to revisit… from 10 years ago.
-
Info from Amazon and Stream:
- Final Fantasy, everything you could ever want - Over 20 playable Final Fantasy heroes and villains to play, over ten iconic battle arenas, legendary summons, tons of equippable weapons and moogles
- The return from Eos - Noctis makes his triumphant return to the PS4 as a combatant, fighting to save the world of Dissidia
- Legendary narrative - Dive into an all-new Final Fantasy story, written by writer Kazushige Nojima (Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts II)
- Your fantasy. Your fight - Each battle you wage, you will gain XP and gil to deepen the customization of your Final Fantasy champion - from EX skills to weapons to skins, level up
- Only the brave survive - The bravery combat system allows a much deeper and more methodical approach to the fighting game genre, separating luck from skill
“NT” means various things, including “New Tale,” “New Trial,” and “New Tournament.”
There is no “Story Mode.” It is mainly a fighting game based on the arcade version. But the PlayStation 4 version will have a story that is not present in the arcade version, which you will be able to experience through event scenes.
It won’t be necessary to fight against other players. You will be able to experience a single story no matter how you play.
The game has the same basic three-versus-three party battle system as the arcade version, but there are also PlayStation 4-only original systems. This includes additional battle rules, an offline single-player mode, and a mode to create rooms that only friends can join.
The arcade version will continue to receive updates first.
Arcade users and PlayStation 4 users won’t be able to fight against each other.
They’re investigating letting arcade users carry over a certain level of data.Read more at http://gematsu.com/2017/06/dissidia-final-fantasy-nt-announced-ps4#kiJ4g6j4WHz6L1us.99

As pretty as it looks, if they don't fix some of the issues I have with the gameplay of the arcade version in comparaison of the PSP games I can't get hyped.
So, I'll be looking forward to seeing if we get a 1vs1 mode (hoping that offline single player mode doesn't just mean you + 2 AIs) and the return of more than 1 HP attack for every characters. -
They aren't gonna have a 1v1 mode in a game where the movesets are balanced for 3v3
that'd make some characters borderline unplayable -

Hey could be worse they could've inudated you with interquels, prequels, and spin-offs then announced the new game coming out sometime within the next three years.

It's not too late. Dissidia Mobile, Dissidia Mystery Dungeon and Dissidia the TCG could all be announced in a few days.
-
The ff card game would sell. A ton.
-
there is a dissidia mobile game though
it's just japan only right now -
Oh, it's coming to us eventually. Along with other games. I feel like now that XV is somewhat off the plate, they can have a little more fun.
In stupid fun stuff: Recently in Japan, FFRK players got a Dissidia event which let them unlock costumes for Terra and Cecil. We actually get official blonde Terra sprites and Dissidia Cecil sprites.
It's funny seeing them like that.

Got about halfway through FFXII: Zodiac Age. Think that's going to be it for me.
XII was probably the game that least stuck with me after playing–it was the first FF I only played through once--and I had pretty negative memories of it. Seems like they were mosti unfair. Really, in terms of setting, cast, and general story, it's very good, definitely superior to the games that followed. Balthier in particular should get more due as a character [Vaan, not so much].
And the basic combat, structure, everything is fine. But man, the gameplay loops on this game just kill it for me. I know JRPGs love their little intermittent stock-taking episodes, but it seems like everything in this game requires an additional three steps, and it happens so often. Reach new town->buy new equipment/abilities->check licenses for new equipment/abilities->reconfigure gambits. Plus, you might need money, which generally requires chaining the same enemy [farming at its worst] for stacks of items that must be sold individually. Oh, and don't expect any of the randomized chests to actually have anything useful to help you with this, you'll still be opening chests with 23 gil halfway through the game.
Plus it has that classic job-system problem of characters that are actually fairly unique in characterization feel same-y in action, especially re: melee characters (there's not a whole lot differentiating outside weapons).
It's a shame, because I was genuinely engaged this time, but man, it just gets tedious.
-
The main thing I credit FF12 is finally giving my brain an internal explanation of or "Why do monsters carry around gold?"
Answer- They don't. You skin them, collect their hides, and then deliver them to a bounty shop. Just every other RPG in existence skips that tedious step.
But yeah, beside the maps being needlessly huge and empty and not full of stuff, and the auto-play combat, it doesn't do much for me. I really don't want to go back to it 10 years later, after playing Dragon Age I'm sure it hasn't aged well.
Shame since the world and look of it all is so cool.
-

I've never really thought about that to be honest I do wonder though why some monsters have a bad tendency to have rare items that they only occasionally drop.
-

Same basic premise. The monsters themselves don't have the items, you take the parts back to a shop and cash them in. But only rare monsters with a special pelt qualify for the good stuff.
-
In my minds eye, FFXII combat was like watching a scaled-up version of Starcraft. Point men there. Wait. Then point them elsewhere once enemies are dead.
And XII's story was guiding brown-clothed brownish people around a brown overworld, until you took down a doom fortress. I think you had to escape Jabba The Hutt Equivalent at some point? And were aboard some airships? Demon wall was there, and a giant plant dragon. But seriously, the game was in desperate need of not just setpieces, but "pieces" in general. Thats the ultimate dealbreaker for me.
Job system or no, its an FF i never plan to revisit.
-
It's a shame that we never really got to see Matsuno and the other writers' real vision for the game
that one writer saying that Penelo was his favorite character for all the stuff he wrote for her only for all of it to get cut is haunting

Never heard that. She may be the most nondescript FF character. Except for every single one in FFXIII.
-
Apparently, he had a lot more plans for Penelo.
Shame. Penelo is honestly my favorite one of the bunch. She's the most patient and willing to listen of a team of conflicting egos and Fran starring into the abyss, silently.

More so then Vann?

More so then Vann?
I mean, Vaan at least has a story-pertinent backstory–his brother was used as a witness and murdered (but apparently, just mostly murdered)--and he wants to be a sky pirate. Penelo just...hangs out with Vaan.
Of course, Vaan gets over pretty much everything having to do with brother within ten minutes of meeting Basch, sooooooo.

I've been able to avoid the shopping tedium by identifying chests that present my characters with an equipment upgrade and repeatedly hitting those chests until the equipment spawns. This is far less tedious now than it was in vanilla FF12 thanks to double-speed mode + treasures now refresh after one screen, which was clearly done for this purpose, I feel. Of course, this does open up its own brand of tedium, but I take comfort in knowing that popping equipment in chests usually saves me that crucial 5000 gil, and some times while trying to pop one equipment, I get several copies of another, which is essentially free money.
Of course, my experience might be different because I've made it a point to tackle optional content as soon as it's available. I went to the Necrohol immediately after Raithwall, explored Lhusu as soon as I got to Phon Coast, etc. As a result, my party is a little overleveled, but gil and equipment have not been an issue.
As for your point on melee characters being same-ish and limited, I'm inclined to agree. While I really enjoy the specialized nature of the mage classes, I'm not particularly fond of my characters who rolled pure melee. Penelo is Shikari/Bushi and while that is a technically excellent combination, the fact is that without Espers, all she can do is Attack and use useless Technicks. This is the main reason I gave Penelo Protectga/Shellga at the expense of cutting my Red Mage off from crucial -ga spells.
For me, the biggest advantage of the job system is actually being forced to make use of the wide variety of equipment available. In XII vanilla, why would you use a crossbow when you could use a bow. Who ever uses Hand-bombs? At least with set equipment for set classes, you have the ability to make use of nearly all of it. And making use of armor is nice too. In OG, I just felt inclined to give everyone Light Armor because the Strength/Magic bonuses felt superfluous. Now, it's clear that it makes a huge difference.

Hell yeah!

Why no nipples ?
-
he lost them in the war
-
Imaginary people don't have nipples
-
@Purple:
Imaginary people don't have nipples
On Adult Swim…..and few other places.
-
No matter how many times I see it, I will always find it weird to see turn based RPG characters fly around in DBZ tenkaichi battles
-
On Adult Swim…..and few other places.
Let me rephrase that for clarity. Dreamt up people existing in an artificially created simulation of a long forgotten civilization don't have nipples.
Or in other words, imaginary people don't have nipples

Too philosophical Herm.

Even the women don't have nipples?

Nobody in Zanarkand remembered nipples

Dissidia PS4 hits Japan January 11, and the US and Europe January 30.
As of right now it's still missing a ton of characters from Dissidia 012, including Gilgamesh, Aeris, Tifa, Laguna, Yuna and Prishe, but it DOES have Kain and Vaan.
Its still missing 3 or 4 of the villains from the first game as well. Still a few months to shore up the roster, but there's only 3 new characters announced so far.
Well its nice to finally have a release date guys, but I'll have Gundam Versus by then.
-
I know this isn't strictly related to nipples or anything…
But has anyone here (relatively) recently played through FF:Crystal Chronicles (the original not the sequels)? I have parts of the soundtrack on my phone and whenever one of the songs comes up I'm always filled with nostalgic urge to replay it. I vaguely remember liking the lore and the world (especially the idea of the miasma), but thinking back on the gameplay I'm drawing blanks on whether I thought it was any good so I'd be interested to hear how people think it holds up. -
I've tried playing the first 20-30 mins. of Final Fantasy XV and . . . I just can't get into it. It's boring so far. Do I keep going hoping that once we get out of this fucking desert there's more, or do I drop it?

There's more… desert :ninja: (and also some restricted deserted areas).

The gameplay is very basic, with decent variety in the playstyle for each race, and a poor customization with stat boosts in very small numbers. The levels for the most part are somewhat enjoyable (but the majority are very linear, except for the Lynari Desert which requires thorough exploration to discover the Mystery Element). The bosses range from fun to some great ones to infuriating (especially the big ones since you will have to carry the chalice around in multiplayer, but a minor annoyance at times in single).Overall it was experimenting with some nice touches, and it has a pleasant aesthetic and charm surrounding it (despite the whole miasma thing), but if you want a deep rpg with great levels or battles its better to look elsewhere.

Yeah that's basically how I remember it (agree to disagree on the lack of memorable tracks outside of Kaze no ne though). Thanks for the extra info on the level design and playstyles though, I always seem to draw a big fat blank when trying to recall anything gameplay related.
