Nintendo ARE going to be at E3. They confirmed themselves that there are going to be two smaller conferences in the same place, with some Nintendo directs on the run up to E3 (likely showing the titles that are going to be AT E3)

They just aren't gonna have a huge presentation. As you see when you watch E3 there are still other companies there like rockstar, valve etc who don't have a conference yet still get coverage.

To be fair how many of the previous E3 shows were a waste of time? Last year Nintendo spoke all about the Wii U while doing no specs or price, Microsoft spent half of theirs explaining how you can link yours with a phone/TV/fridge while Sony spent a quarter of theirs trying to sell a Harry Potter book. And then we see the likes of Ubisoft and EA dragged onto the stage (despite having their very own conferences) to show how Rayman/Battlefield/Fifa looks this time.

I think with this, every RPG out in, or announced to be released in america now has a scheduled release here, which is nice.

Don't get what the big deal is with nintendo not being there or being there in a smaller capacity.

In my opinion E3 is a relic of a time where you could not stream conferences to the public/press where you had to put a lot of money into making the event happen to get the years news out. Now I'm also clearly speaking from a perspective that likes to inform themselves over the internet.
So yeah I prefer a couple of nintendo directs over 1 E3 conference that focuses on too much snuff since it's not only game press that's at the event but also general mainstream/tech press. And looking at sony's reveal conference I'd much prefer for all the main players to do their own press events and rather trying in another way to tap into the mainstream press.

So all in all I think people place way to much value on E3.

i get some of the criticisms but really the last good E3 conference from any of the big three was probably when kid icarus was announced. I don't remember a good microsoft one and as for sony's they did have one that i liked in the last few years but i don't remember why

The great irony is that these people complaining about this change are people who probably bitched at sony for spending exorbitant amount of time at their presentation on Wonderbook, or Microsoft on Kinect.

Nintendo breaking up their presentations at E3 simply means they don't have to try to cater one huge event to at least four different groups of people interested in hearing different things, and can instead control the pace of the information.

I dunno what was worse. The amount of time spent on it or the fact I have genuinely seen people try to defend this by saying 'You don't work with J K Rowling and not spend a good amount of time on talking about it.'

Anywho. E-shop is up. Kinda tempted with Mario Super Picross but dunno the difference between that and the Gameboy one released on the 3DS except its in Japanese :/

That's just it, with the current WIIU sales numbers, they NEED those people.
The only people i know off who are watching the Directs are the Nintendo fans, and a handfull of hardcore games (including me).
Most of those people already OWN a WIIU.

Why do people keep defending Nintendo like this? Seriously what's to gain?
They could've had the Directs AND a E3 presentation, to reach a wider audience.

Besides that, what's up with all "supposedly" launch window game being released this late?
Promising a console with alot of Third party support and not giving it? (I don't care if it's all the Third parties fault.
Whenever i order something, and get it 2 months to late, i honestly don't care for the reasons behind - Because that's what they promised - So why defend it?)
And launching a console with such a slow OS in 2012/2013?

You can bet that if Sony (PSN Creditcard stuff, $600 etc.) or Microsoft (RoD, Kinekt etc.), pull stuff like that - I'm not going to stand for that either.
That's also the reason i'll never buy a console at launch.

Also going to put this out there a US retalier Frys is selling a ZombiU, Sonic Racing Transformed, and Nintendoland bundle for $59.99 (3 games for the price of 1). That is a godlike deal right there.

I don't know if this is old news but apparently the Wii U has been fully hacked and they already are making a new solderless WiiKey for it, which emulates the optical drive and boots games from USB.

im not sure,but i think you have to give the letter Zelda or impa gave you to the guard at Kakariko village and it gets you to death mountain.

Umm, Impa shows you Kakariko village when she escorts you out. That's the game telling you to go there. Navi will also tell you where to go if you just wander around a bit.

That's weird though, I didn't get that info from Impa. And when I wander around a bit, Navi just tells me "what would Saria say" or something like that.

I don't like this seems like such a dick move, since in many cases it's not just the video but also the commentary people like about that stuff.
I hope all those that provide nintendo video content providers band together and move on to something else and that nintendo's diminished youtube presence will affect them.

Well I don't believe I misread but they are basically taking all the ad revenue from all the people that do commentary on nintendo games/stuff that contains footage of their games. So all the people that are full time youtubers(and thus also most of the time liked enough) that earn their life money with that get screwed. Can't see how that is something good.

It's not quite as extreme as sega shutting whole channels down for featuring shining footage, but this sets a extremely bad precedence case.
I mean if nintendo can do this how far away are we until half the other companies do this, this would severely limit gaming related content on youtube.

I don't quite think law has a lot to do with picking a side here. It's as iffy as "there being no legal problem with taxing violent media" as the us vice president recently stated. It's as iffy as always online consoles, drm that mostly punishes customers or all the other iffy business tricks.
It's as iffy as suing a microwave company for not putting a warning on their machine that warns you from putting your pets into it and turning the machine on.

Point is just because something is legal doesn't make it right.

I mean this stuff doesn't even remotely affect me right now since I don't really watch LP's or any nintendo game footage anyway but this just seems to lead down something very unpleasant.

I think the problem is that the guys doing the videos won't get any ad revenue, all that goes to Nintendo now. So for the guys who do Let's Plays as their full time this is a giant problem.

Ah, I see. I was unaware that Lets Plays were lucrative enough that someone could use it as a main source of income. Thank you for the explanation.

If that's the case, could Youtube so something like Blip where an ad plays in the middle of the video? The standard ad that gives income to the Lets Player would play in the beginning like normal and the ad that gives income to Nintendo would play somewhere in the middle. I understand it's pretty obtrusive, but I feel it's better than Nintendo deciding to pull the videos.

They could always seperate the audio from the video and have a two seperate videos, one for the commentary another for the actual video. It is inconvenient, but its the only other option I see these lpers take without infringing copyright.

It would probably cause a lot of people to stop watching popular Lps out of a lack of convenience. But that's all I can think of.

You're talking about something that a lot of people have done for free, including me. So I just can't feel sorry for people who might not be able to get paid for doing it. As long as the game is well liked, there are people who will create guides for it for free (just look at gamefaqs for proof). So as long as Nintendo isn't shutting these videos down, I really don't care.

A lets play is more than just being a guide, it's about the personality behind it, or else why would people watch them when they could look up a straightforward guide? And it's not like they ask people to pay them for watching. They ask you to look at a short ad and give them views.

But if you wanna think about it like that, why did mst3000 deserve to be a show with ad support? It's the same thing as a lets play, except the people are watching a movie.

There is the interesting issue of intellectual property though. They may be Nintendo games, but people won't follow your LPs just because you're playing the game. You have to be interesting to watch (which is not a given), and I guess for the most popular ones and people who actually make tangible income, you probably have to have interesting commentary and/or engage the audience. Those things are unique to the user, not to the content.

I guess it would sort of be like a music review that played the song being reviewed in the background. The song is copyrighted, but then again you have someone talking over it which changes the listening experience (I doubt most people want to listen to songs with people talking over them). And the review itself is the user's own property. EDIT: The MST3k example given in the previous post is an excellent analogy.

I think it would be fair if Nintendo took a cut of ad revenue, but they definitely don't deserve all of it. That's not fair.
