The specs are right in line with the rumoured specs for the PS4 and 720 actually. And it's disappointing. I realize that consoles are able to have higher levels of optimization due to every console having the same hardware, but the 6770 was released in 2011. So if the Wii U releases in 2013 lets say, it's already going to be using 3 year old hardware (though now that I read it more carefully, it's releasing at the end of 2012, which still means a 2 year old card. The 6000 series cards are mostly repacks of the 5000 cards I think to, so they'd be even older than that). I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since this is a Nintendo console but still. It should have been obvious that the next gen consoles would support DX11 but I still had my doubts. Running at 60fps at 1080p is nice for people used to 720p at 30fps, but I wonder how this will stick with games getting more and more complicated
Nintendo's really leading the console pack when it comes to adapting the latest technology this time. If these specs are true, I'm interested in how the other consoles are going to react.
-
Fake.
I don't want next gen to have uber-graphics anyway. enough devs went to the wall this gen as it is.
-
I'm pretty sure Crytek ISN'T working on anything.
And that price seems a bit too high, but that might be my anxious wallet speaking.
and I thought I heard that little pad was for the Near Field Communication thing? Because Nintendo realized that rubbing plastic toys on the screen would scuff it up, so they put the thing you're supposed to bump nubs with on the side there.
As for the tech specs, sure? I don't pretend to have any idea what those numbers really mean.and Sakonosolo, you'd better believe I saved the FUCK outta that gif you posted on the previous page.

Miyamoto won a prestigious spanish award called the Prince of Asturias Prize.
Never heard of it but congratulations anyway to the legendary game designer.
-
so… do we have to refer to him as Prince Miyamoto of Asturias from now on? because I am 100% down with that.

You do realize eveyr generation consoles are way behind computers graphics cards. NEVER has a console released and not already been a couple years behind top of the line pc's.
-
I haven't been following console specs so you could be right, but I thought consoles were usually on top when they released but slowly fell behind.

Gee doesn't seem to have a hard drive which I hope I'm wrong on.
-
Given that Nintendo purportedly has plans for full retail games on the Wii U's eShop, I doubt the system will lack a hard drive.

This is extremely exciting but highly suspect. Instead of expand under the post it should say view conversation. Not to mention I am waiting on reports of Japanese fan sites to go nuts. I would imagine at the very least a handful of people in Japan saw this and could vouch for hit. So right now I am just going to presume fake.

I haven't been following console specs so you could be right, but I thought consoles were usually on top when they released but slowly fell behind.
The last console to be cutting edge was the N64.
-
I bought a 3ds yesterday and pick up the new mario kart and I was wondering what other games should I pick up? Also I was wondering is the 3ds region lock?
-
Yes, it's region locked.
Super Mario 3D Land
Kid Icarus Uprising
Tales of the Abyss - ps2 port
Starfox 64 - N64 port with shiny graphics
Legend of Zelda - N64 port with shiny graphics
Cave Story 3D - PC port with poly graphics
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars - turn based strategy by the creator of XCOM : Enemy Unknown/UFO Defence
Judging by the game it's based on, Devil Survivor Overclocked is probably a very good game, but I haven't played it as it's not out in europe yet. Also pick up Pullbox/Pushmo & Mighty Switch Force! on the eshop.
-
aint played it but keep hearing good things about Dillon's Rolling Western too. And if you can get it very cheap (like £10 or so) Pilotwings is decent for that price.

Pushmo (which has a different name for european fans by the way, something like pull blocks) is a fantastic downloadable puzzle game made by intelligent systems. Puzzles start easy but get really challenging, and you can make puzzles yourself as well (and share them with QR codes)
I'd definitely recommend Kid Icarus:Uprising, and Devil Survivor Overclocked (especially if you have yet to play the first game) and yeah, I'd pretty much Agree with Darkstorm's list in general. Also if you've never played it, download Link's Awakening DX from the eshop. Its an incredible experience and definitely one of the best Zelda games -
I bought a 3ds yesterday and pick up the new mario kart and I was wondering what other games should I pick up? Also I was wondering is the 3ds region lock?
Definitely recommend Kid Icarus Uprising. Extremely high value for a $40 game, got it when it came out and still nowhere near completing everything and pretty much a game I could play daily. I'm keen to say it's currently the best 3DS game out there.
As far as downloadables, Pushmo is an extremely good buy as well, and I've heard good things of Mighty Switch Force (new version came out, at least in the US), Dillon's Rolling Western, and a puzzle game called Ketzal's Corridors, I believe.
Oh, and then there's Link's Awakening and Metroid 2 on the virtual console. -
Okay, wow. I totally did NOT mean for this to turn into an essay, but an hour later, here I am…
I bought a 3ds yesterday and pick up the new mario kart and I was wondering what other games should I pick up? Also I was wondering is the 3ds region lock?
3DS games I've played and would recommend:
Full Retail Games
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - If by some freak chance you've never played Ocarina of Time before, then this has become the best rendition of the game yet and the best way to be introduced to it. Even if you HAVE played OoT before… get it anyway. It's half-port, half-remake, featuring redone graphics, streamlined controls, and of course, new-found portability for this downright awesome game. As a bonus, it includes the extra-challenging "Master Quest" mode from the game's GameCube releases, as well as an all-new boss challenge mode.
Kid Icarus: Uprising - A truly amazing game; the one people have been waiting for ever since the 3DS itself was announced. The controls have a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to them you'll easily be blasting away at everything in your path. The story is very interesting and the voice-acting is a joy to listen to, especially combined with the witty writing which doesn't take itself too seriously. It has SpotPass features, and also uses AR cards. A triumphant return for the Kid Icarus series and hopefully a good omen of things to come.
Mario Kart 7 - A great entry to the Mario Kart series. It has lots of replay value in all the kart customization options you can earn by raking up points, and it's the first 3DS game to really have a boom in online play. It could really stand to get some more courses via DLC, though, now that they have the means for that sort of thing.
Super Mario 3D Land - You want a fantastic blend of Mario's 3D and 2D gameplay styles, with amazing level quantity and quality, and possibly the best use of the system's 3D to date? Get this game. It has StreetPass features too, as icing on the cake.
Street Fighter IV 3D - A pretty damn good port of the HD console game; the "inked" art style carries over well, and there's some touchscreen controls and StreetPass features for the 3DS version. The Tekken and Dead Or Alive fighting series have entries on the 3DS too, if they're more to your taste than Street Fighter, but I haven't played those.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Not a shining gem like the other games, but a pretty fun straightforward brawler game with an interesting story. How it stacks up as a port compared to the console versions? Let me put it this way: the Wii and 3DS versions are almost identical, but it looks and feels as though they put all the effort into the 3DS version and then did a lazy port to the Wii. Also, Spider-Man 2099 is a total boss, and I'm personally just glad that a game focusing on him even exists.
Sonic Generations - Not as good as the mind-blowingly good HD version, obviously, but still loads of fun in itself. Great as a pick-up-and-play game, and it has an admirable amount of replay value in its truckloads of bonus challenges, StreetPass features, and online versus play.
Star Fox 64 3D - A good visually-upgraded port of the classic Nintendo 64 game. It has new gyroscopic controls and multiplayer features. Unfortunately, the lack of online multiplayer kind of limits its replay value.
Tales of the Abyss - Want a good RPG for your 3DS, something you can sink a little more time into? This is probably your best bet so far. I'm a good chunk into it and have quite enjoyed it so far, though I'm not sure if it being my first game in the Tales Of series would affect that positively or negatively.
eShop Games
Pushmo - Already mentioned; the puzzles are amazingly creative and fun. I've been stuck on one for like 2 weeks now, and I'm this close to shaming myself and my family by looking up the solution for it on YouTube.
Pokédex 3D - Uh, do you play Pokémon games? This is a Pokédex. It has animated 3D models of Pokémon, info on their stats, moves, and so forth; everything you'd expect a Pokédex to have. It only features the newest critters from Black and White at this point, but an update this fall will add everything else and turn it into a "National Pokédex."
Dillon's Rolling Western - A fun game where you play as a cowboy Armadillo who rolls around Sonic-style to defend a old west-y town from monsters. I haven't gotten that far into it yet, but it's a lot of fun.
Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword - Now THIS game is truly a gem of the eShop. You play as a wandering samurai, on a mission to find and rescue a princess. But this isn't just your average hack-and-slash game, oh no. What sets it apart is its unique reaction-based play style; instead of just running around chopping at all your enemies, you're expected to fight them by using precise timing to dodge and counter-attack. It takes skill and practice to get good at, but it makes for an amazing experience. It's also one of the few eShop games out there to use the system's step counter, for building up pretty scenery in its "Rock Garden" mode.
Mighty Switch Force - A "spiritual successor" to Mighty Flip Champs on the DSi, this game is a relatively simple shooting 2D platformer with a twist; a dedicated button causes certain platforms and objects to phase out of existence and back again. The levels are based around figuring out how to effectively swap these platforms in and out to progress. The game just recently got an update which added a few levels, some minor graphical improvements, and a handy-dandy "Retry" option in the pause menu. Neat.
Colors! 3D - You an artsy type like me? Then get this. Now. It's a surprisingly full-featured "painting" app, with great controls making use of the face buttons and circle for tool selection and what-not, and the touchscreen for the painting itself. The Colors! app is on a bunch of different mobile platforms, but obviously only the 3DS has the bonus feature of having 3D layers. There's even an online community where you can post your artwork and get feedback.
Zen Pinball 3D - It's pinball. It has four different themed tables. There's online score rankings. The 3D effect is really well-done in this one. 'Nuff said.
Ketzal's Corridors - A puzzle game that can best be described as "tumble Tetris." The basic premise is that you have to position moving blocks to the correct angle to pass through holes in walls. Pretty straightforward so far, and I haven't gotten very far into it, but it's been fun.
Virtual Console Games
Game Boy / Game Boy Color - Unlike the Wii's Virtual Console, the 3DS is focusing on games from handheld systems, and there's already quite a few from the Game Boy line. I own and would suggest Zelda: Link's Awakening, Blaster Master: Enemy Below, Tetris, Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2, and Kirby's Block Ball.
NES - Despite said focus on handheld systems, Nintendo's released some good ol' Nintendo Entertainment System games onto the 3DS eShop too. A bunch were given away to us generous and attractive 3DS Ambassadors, but a few of them have since been made available to the common folk too, namely Super Mario Bros and Metroid. The Legend of Zelda was released to the general 3DS public in Japan, which hopefully means we westerners will get it too, and thus we Ambassadors will get an update for it (meaning that I might actually be able to beat it, with the help of save states…). Interestingly, the original Punch-Out! was released on the eShop too, though it wasn't an Ambassador title first. All of the above I have and recommend.
"3D Classics" - Now THESE are cool. Old-school games that aren't just ported, but actually upgraded to include nifty 3D. A good handful have been released, and among them I would strongly recommend Excitebike, Xevious, Kirby's Adventure, and the original Kid Icarus.
Other VC Systems - Did you ever think people would be playing SEGA Game Gear games on a Nintendo handheld system? Me neither. Yet here I am, playing Sonic the Hedgehog:Triple Trouble. The Game Gear is the only non-Nintendo system represented on the eShop so far, but there's more to come; at the very least there's a TurboGrafx game or two expected.
Full downloadable retail games - That's right, Nintendo's taking the plunge that Sony and Microsoft took a few years ago already, and will soon offer certain full 3DS games for download as an alternative to a physical cartridge. The most prominent one we know about so far will be New Super Mario Bros. 2 in August.
-
when is sakura samurai coming out in europe? :/ I want it
-
If you like Breakout/Arkanoid, I'd definitely suggest Kirby's Block Ball. It's a great version of it with typical Kirby powers. It's stoll one of my favorite GB games. I've also always liked Qix. Both are Virtual Console games.
I've only played the demo, but Crush 3D is really fun. It's puzzle-platform game, where you change the perspectives and crush the world from 3D to 2D to continue.
Resident Evil Revelations is supposed to be great, too. And Rhythm Thief (Not out until July in the USA, but it's out in Japan and Europe) is good and has awesome music. It's a rhythm game that utilizes different features of the 3DS. Rayman Origins is coming out in a few weeks, too, so if you don't have it for anything..
And if you live in Europe there's One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP. Nothing ground-breaking, but I really enjoyed the Wii version.
-
I just got Resident Evil Revelations and it IS great. It's an awesome blend of old style RE gameplay and new.
Bottom line tho, I have to preserve my ammo and actually plan those things out, I've actually died a few times, and I'm legitimately freaked the F$%k out when I play it. All very good things for a Survival Horror game.
But play it with the Circle Pad Pro. It looks lunky, but it plays amazingly with it.
-
Thank you everyone for all the great suggestion I'll check out the other mario games and kid icarus. I forgot that the 3ds has a eshop so I going to check that out and pick up some games. Does nintendo do any special events like giving free games or apps? Also has anyone here played mario tennis yet?
-

They've done that sometimes. Excitebike 3d classics was originally free with the eshop launch, pokedex 3d was free (Not sure whether it still is or not), a dsiware four swords adventure was free for a while, and Kid Icarus 3d classics came free as a preorder bonus for uprising in the us, or a club nintendo thing elsewhere
Edit: Oh and of course the ambassador program, but that was pretty much a one time thing so don't expect to be given 20 free games like that

I played it without the CPP it's awkward to a sizaeably small extent because you can't easily control the camera but it's negligible.
-
i much prefered it with the cpp than without, however i didn't like it on MGS3D

I've checked out Mario Tennis Open. I had the intention to buy it long ago but didn't. It's NOT a bad game, but my main disappointment is that there's pretty much no stakes. I loved the Gamecube version because it had great minigames and each character had different power ups, and with time it was a matter of learning how to use them effectively and when. The 3DS version drops the powers and just gives you a more straightforward experience (still has minigames, but not as fun imo and the main incentive is to collect items to customize your mii, but I have never been into that), with the main focus of the controls being that you have the best shot possible.
(btw, this sometimes leads into simplifying the game as you have the option of the character moving for you while you focus on precision.)
Also, there's no rpg stuff like the previous handheld versions of the franchise.I didn't toy too much with it, but basically to me it felt like it was focusing more on the Tennis than the Mario aspect of the game, so I decided to pass. Mostly saving my money for games with more replay value or content, possibly Pokemon Conquest as I've heard good things about it.
-
Did you see the recent UE3 demo? It already looks amazing and had incredibly high requirements to even run it at 30 fps. UE4 will be even more intensive than that.
Edit: I'd say that UE4 is a "next gen" engine though, so would the Wii U not being able to play it mean it's not a "next gen" console? I suppose you could say the same for the Wii and the like, so I don't know. I wouldn't say that Nintendo is a good mark of "next gen" though, I want to see what Sony and Microsoft do. If neither of their new consoles will be able to run it either I really don't know what to say.

N](http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475868)ow that's a shame.
He didn't say it could not run the UE4. My take on that was he could not answer the question, and that basically so far they have only announced UE3. This thing won't be available to developers for another year or 2, either way I know Epic was working with Nintendo to get it running on the Wii U. I havn't gotten any updates from my source since GDC, but I fully expect some form of the UE4 to run on the Wii U.
Besides that answer is cryptic enough and makes total sense considering previous comments about how they could not blow the lid of the UE4 just yet because of a console manufacturer. Who else at this point but Nintendo?
-
That…...sucks....I think? I don't remember much about the PS3 one except it being an FPS and getting cheap really really quickly. Oh and I think it was online only.
-
Whatever. Pay attention to something better:

Castlevania: Mirror of Fate confirmed in newest Nintendo Power. Also confirms TREVOR BELMONT is the title character!!!!

It was on PS3, 360, and PC this generation. But yeah, it was an FPS and I thought it was pretty cool. I don't know why someone would buy that game for a Nintendo console so it's probably not inconveniencing many people :ninja: .

Doesn't look like it's 2D, sadly. LOS got a lot of flak, I believe, but I enjoyed the demo..
-
from what i can see i think it is in 2d but has a dynamic camera for the 3d effect
-
I enjoyed Lords of Shadow, even if it lacked the side scrolling aspect that has practically become synonymous with the series. Although it spent waaaay too much time in the forest area, and took a long time to get to the actual freakin' castle.

Looks like Nintendo is preparing three wii u launch titles http://www.facebook.com/WiiU/posts/345083798892833
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, judging by character counts I've seen, it seems like one will be New Super Mario Bros. Wii U
-
If all 3 of them are promising, I'll consider buying the console within the first month of release. And then still one week of waiting before E3
-
new super mario bros mii is practically confirmed. While i would love to see retros title as a launch i dunno. This confirms that rumour on nintendo doing 3 launch game and if so one of them it's very likely a new IP. I wish pikmin 3 was a lauch title but it seems to be doing a melee and coming out shortly after the release
-
Ugh, great, more NSMB. Anyone really want that?
Oh well. Also, I think it's a given by now but the Star fox X Metroid rumors were shot down.
-
i'm sure it won't be bad but it's hard to get hyped for. I knew that wasn't true. It may still be a starfox game though
-
-
I'd be exponentially more excited about another new Donkey Kong Country for the 3DS, as it was rumored far back. Feels to me like the "New" side of the Mario franchise has been super exploited with very little innovation on Nintendo's part, which is frankly disappointing.
-

Yup I liked the first why not get the second?
