It's easily possible given the screen that it has to output too.
Quite surprised Nintendo seem to be making something close to cutting edge though.

great..and i plan to get the DSi next month
They just launched the DSi XL…and now this? Will it cost as much as a PSP?
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. You mean 3D as in 3D glasses. I see now. I thought you meant the 3D we've had on the DS since it started.
Woah, nice find.
I wonder how long it'll take before that's removed.
Honestly, I saw this posted on Kotaku 5 minutes ago and thought it was an early April Fool's joke.
I'm guessing this is why we don't have much new info on Pokemon Gen5. It'll probably be a launch title or one that is at least on this.
Nice lil' articles on how the 3D works

Here's an example:
^
That's actually look pretty cool in a few games I can think of (Zelda, Pokemon, FF).
Wonder how complex it could get….and the shovelware that'll eventually come with it (of course, we all know that the release games will be glorified tech demos so I don't think there is much of a difference there).

Well Wii has a ton of shovelware and Move and Natal will undoubtedly have the same amount, maybe even more. So I think we can expect a fair amount of shitty games for the 3D handheld.
But… but.. I like 2d games.
And so, the DS continues its spiral into shit. -_-

Okay, that's cool.
I hope this is a rumor…
Now we need a remake of Virtual Boy Wario Land.
Nope. Not feeling it.
The DS after this 3d version, will shoot 4 projectors like the Yugioh anime and create a hologram setting for the game…
In unrelated news, the porn industry makes trillions.
Now we need a remake of Virtual Boy Wario Land.
That'd be excellent. I heard it was a very good game, but never got a chance to play it.

I'm assuming this one won't give you a massive headache after half an hour's use.

You're talking out of your ass, the NDS has and still is having pretty good games.
Eh I'll just wait on a price drop for this and consider getting it.
Either way I am fine my NDS Lite <3
totally saw that coming…
"We're still relevant, yes we are. Please buy the DSiXL or you wont be a true nintendo fan. And when you pick that up, pre-order this hunk of awesome. It might have a Zelda game. Maybe he'll be int he future this time?!"
I'm a little sceptic with this.
Sounds like the best idea since
EDIT:// Whoa, just seen it. robby beats me.

The sarcasm/joke is lost to me…
I just bought my DS lite about a year ago. I don't care nintendo. I like my lite. it can play GBA games. I don't need a camera. I got a cell phone and a digital camera. I don't need internet. I have a computer. I don't care about a bigger screen. I don't care about 3D. For someone who can still have fun playing NES, this stuff is all useless gimmicks made to try and take my money. Stop it. Just stop.
^^
Pretty much this.
Nintendo's killing their own market. Why announce a totally new DS when you have yet to even launch the DSiXL in one of your biggest markets?
Honestly, I haven't even "upgraded" from my DS Lite yet.
Because the target of the DSXL is older people who don't read nintendo press releases?
Anyway, it's been six years since the DS came out, so a new handheld is hardly beyond reason. Whether the 3D hook turns out to be any good or not is debatable.

…maybe you shouldn't have waited so long..? (got DS lite in 2006...in 2011 that's 5 years)
If you are having fun playing your NES so much (which came out almost 30 years ago BTW) then why does this even matter to you? Also, judging by your sig, it does seem you play SOME DS games...
Evolution am evil.
I have yet to see a game make great use of the two screen GIMMICK, (having a permanent map or inventory screen up does NOT count) and the touch pad annoys me like crazy when its overused. There's a time and a place for that level of sensativity, but designers don't seem to feel the need to let you CHOOSE between that or the d-pad on a lot of games. (choosing a path with the stylus? Fine. Controlling jumping or punching? Getting into danger there.)
Scribblenauts woulda been way better if the items were pen conrolled, and the hero (and jumping) controlled be the d pad and buttons.

The World Ends With You wouldn't have worked on one screen.

Because the original DS build is about six years old, maybe ?
btw, they also brought out the GBA Micro, when the DS was already coming and why would anyone here even care for the DSiXL which is basically a version for old people?:wassat:

Ok I'm sold. Imagine that in the hands of the great god Miyamoto himself. Win.

The World Ends With You destroys your arguement and flushes down the toliet of ownage.
I do however agree with you on Scribblenauts… Damn that game can really annoy me at times.....

I waited so long to buy a DS for the same reason actually. I bought a GBA. a year later, they came out with an SP. Thought it was a better make, so I shelled out for that one. A year later, the DS came. I pretty much said screw you I'm not buying it, and waited that long to buy one.
and it does matter to me. NES doesn't have phoenix wright. my point is, they don't need to keep making a new system every year. I just want the games. Look how long the NES was around for. And when they made the jump to SNES it was a BIG improvement. It was a valid reason for a new system. Not, "we need to make one with a camera in it" Besides, Even with these new systems, they keep going back and making, and remaking old games. Another reason I say, why the hell do you need to make a new system every year.
Why not, you don't need to buy it.
Nintendo has only had 4 handheld systems in the last 20 years:
Gameboy
Gameboy Colour
Gameboy Advance
DS
And it's been 6 years since the DS. That's a very good hardware lifespan. Everything else is just a redesign to coax people who haven't bought one yet, like the camera for more casual gamers or the XL for older gamers, or the lite for people who don't want a brick in their pocket.
Why do redesigns have any impact on you whatsoever.
I think the shitty control interface is whats keeping me from picking Scribblenauts back up again. Which is a damn shame. I'm hoping the sequel will fix all of those problems.
Also, why the hell are people crying and screaming? We've had the DS hardware for 6 years, thats the standard gap between new Nintendo handhelds.
The developer did promise they'd fix the control system for the sequel.
I'm still in shock that it managed to make it out of testing. How do you miss something like that?

Don't forget the Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Pocket Color, Gameboy Advance SP, and Gameboy Advance Micro.

It constanly annoys the living helll out of me. it's like ok go do (a), no now your doing (b) instead of (a). Half the time I just turn it off and play something else.

I'm begining to think they rushed it after it was so well received at E3

And the Light. Yeah, I was just listing examples of redesigns, not all of them. Can't say I remember the Gameboy Pocket Color though.

How bout you focus of releasing a console that isn't made of feces Nintendo?
The sarcasm/joke is lost to me…
in short… nintendo wants money
but regardless... i'm just being an ass. My DSlite is great. Never understood why people like/or want the DSi.
But working at a videogame store and seeing people so adamant to trade in their great working DSlite just for a DSi is kinda bogus to me. There really isn't many good reasons for such a move. Sure if you don't have one, then it's your choice... but i'd go with the model that plays the most games.
Hey, I'm willing to give it a shot. My DS Lite isn't in the best shape so I thought about replacing it anyways.
well, that's an understandable reason.
Man! I got the very first Nintendo DS.
Nintendo DS Fat
I'm perfectly fine.
God-damn, I just bought my DS a year ago.
Ah well, hopefully DS games will be cheaper with a new system out.
3D doesn't look like it will be useful for actual gaming and instead will just make games look better. Which…is a weird move for nintendo.
Can't wait to see what the games look like though, even if I'll only buy the system 5 years later.
this actually sounds like it could be really great
as long as there's good games. then i'm down
As long as the games continue to be amazing then I'm game.
Considering everyone poo-pooed the DS because of the way it was yet it still managed to be awesome I've got high-hopes for this.

DSlite was too small and uncomfortable in my hands. The DS Phat and DSi aren't. imo DS Phat/i >lite.
