No they didn't. Not the kind where the system hardware got better in an impactful way. Not the kind that's anywhere in fucking context here dude. The closest thing might actually be the N64 expansion pack. Which isn't a revision.

The NES top loader was region free (although it needed a 60 to 72 pin adapter to play Japanese games), significantly cheaper than the model 1 NES, and played games far more reliably.

If you mean actual hardware upgrades like the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro then no, Nintendo consoles have never been re-released with extra RAM. The DSI and New 3DS barely made use of their respective hardware upgrades, so I don't really see a reason for Nintendo to release further upgrades if 99% of the games don't benefit in any meaningful way.

Have you ever considered just portable battery packs? There are some really good ones out there (that will also recharge your phone, laptop, or even jump-start a car). Yeah it's slightly inconvenient but usually if I'm going to be somewhere on the move where I can play 3+ hours of games, I have somewhere to stick a battery.

I think they'll eventually put out a smaller, cheaper Switch minus the dock and detachable Joycons that will act as the 3DS successor. But yeah we aren't getting anything like a Switch Pro.

That review seems promising, although I really wish he had stopped to explain more of what he said was flawed instead of saying "there's minor stuff but it doesn't matter overall" without actually explaining (other than one or two examples like texture pop-in).

I can't wait to play this, though I'm a bit afraid from a completionist standpoint lol. Like is it possible/realistic to get all Blades, missable quests, etc. Also hoping for a strong post-game.

I will write my opinion once i'm finished, but to say what i think those "minor things" are before that, they could be: "grindy" heart-to-hearts, some generic quests spread among the more relevant ones, remembering/locating some NPCs that are tied to side quests, and the RNG nature of the weather that could affect the spawning of some Unique Monsters. These are pretty much the only real issues with the first game, and were already pretty inoffensive if you weren't going for a 100%.

Hopefully they fixed at least some of those, and if there are new ones i wonder what could they be. I am hopeful however for all the strong points of the previous games to be even more refined and rewarding. It's a very strong formula that can be improved with sequels, so i'm curious to see what they learned in the meantime.

More news on that Yoshi game, Kirby game are probably locks. Pokemon Switch and especially Metroid Prime 4 might be asking for too much, but I can hope.

For the people playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, how is the gameplay compared to the first?

I kind of got turned off from the first one, since I disliked a bunch of small aspects about the game. I thought the towns felt lifeless, the quests were boring fetch quests, there were waaaaaaaaay too many items, and most of them were just little glowing pac man balls littering the field that felt so unsatisfying to collect and all of which were hard to keep track of. The trailers for XBC2 looked solid, so I was hoping that it would be more enjoyable for me, and maybe something to pick up when I get my switch within a month.

That's pretty much how the quests from XB1 sounded like it.

I don't think I minded it, too much. There were a lot of interesting ideas in it, for sure, like putting so much emphasis on positioning. I ended up playing it mostly like World of Warcraft, though, where I'd just press attacks in sequence, waiting for the cooldowns, and a lot of the enemies were kind of tanky, making it boring at times. If I compare it to Tales of Symphonia's gameplay, as another action heavy RPG where you only control one character at a time, I still like Tales' better. It's faster, more streamlined, and feels more satisfying to play with.

GameXplain reviews are actually pretty solid. They tend to be upfront about the ways the game can be enjoyable or not and make sure to frame their conclusions around how they felt towards it.

With Xenoblade in particular they have a track record of actually understanding the game and the mechanics better than the average game "journalism" sites, and I recall with X they even did a collab video with Chuggaconroy answering questions from fans.

With all that in mind I'd trust a gamexplain review significantly more than something like Polygon, Gamespot or IGN. Where gamexplain learns the details of the game, those other sites just shrug and go "too hard" and go back to what's popular.

The review in question was done by Derrick, who is more "RPG" than Andre or Ash (he's streamed Pokemon and Fire Emblem many times). And yeah, getting Chugga for talkback/questions helps.

…..so confession time. Had the Xenoblade 1 port for 3DS, was having a good time, but i just could NOT beat Xord in the Ether Mines. I regret not trying to power through it.

First thoughts: game is kind of a mess of systems that don't really work together very seamlessly. Doesn't mean the game is bad–way too early to say anything in that regard--but already can tell it's going to be one of those games where I eventually ignore half the things it thinks I'm going to want to spend time enhancing.

Thanks people for pointing me to the GameXplain video! Looks like I've got to reevaluate my stance on them, since that really did give me all the information I wanted. It sounds like I might still have some issues with it, but my problems seem largely resolved and I feel a little excited for it, too. Now I just need to get the Switch at all!

If this is about the first xenoblade that's cause I think the game is balanced around color chaining, a system most people kinda ignored. All enemies except bosses or endgame special monsters melt if one abuses that system and even bosses still kinda die relatively fast.

I'm officially in the camp of "it's really not that good." Takes a "throw everything and the kitchen sink" approach to JRPGs, but throws it all in the middle of the floor and lets you pick through it to figure out what's what. In particular, really seems to miss out on some fairly easy quality-of-life improvements (a halfway decent quick-access map, for example, or better notes on what items are located where).

On the other hand, it definitely has that old-style anime JRPG sensibility to it with the dumb jokes and over-the-top emotions and talking–so so much talking--which I could readily see folk finding charming. And if you want something that has enough content to keep playing for over 100 hours, whether or not the content is all that engaging, it's good for that.

But I really think I got everything I wanted in this game in Ys VIII and so much more gracefully.

...suspect I'll be on the minority for this one.

Some folks online are criticizing the fact that the game features some character designs like that since…. yeah, that's clear TnA Bait...

But a bunch of children on the internet can't fathom the concept that you can criticize aspects of games without saying A: that it ruins the entire game, or B: That changes should be forced on the developers, or C: The game should be banned.

MGSV was an amazing game. Most everyone will agree it was. I have not played it yet (Haven't played any MGS games yet...) but it gets mountains of accolades from critics and gamers alike and I'm not going to dispute that as I've not played it yet.

Quiet's character design and idle animations are awful. She's in a bikini and cut up see through tights, and when you're in the helicopter she does useless poses that have zero purpose except to show off her tits and ass.

Nothing about what I just said spoke at all to the quality of the overall game nor did it say anything about demanding that Konami change anything about it.... I just think it's bad and will state that opinion.

According to the GamerGate crowd however, I just said that I hate MGSV, That Quiet's character design literally ruins the entire game, and that I want the game banned until Konami patches in a modest character design for Quiet and locks it as the only design.

I did not say any of those things, but that's what a GG person hears the second you criticize anything about the portrayal of any woman in any video game ever.

I've been subscribed since the days of checking out the five Miiverse posts a week while Smash 4 was in development. Definitely don't leave you hanging when it comes to trailers and news, but above that I like their reviews, because they go into what worked for them, what didn't, etc., and frame it as the collection of their personal thoughts. "I liked it, meh" etc. It lacks the numbers that often trap other reviewers, where those fans would use it as end-all validations if a game is good.

I'm still fairly early in the game but so far it's really living up to my expectations. You sound like someone who is new to the series, because it definitely shares this thing with X (the one I played) where there are lots of game systems that the game briefly goes over but for the most part it's just "have fun, do what you want, figure shit out." It's super rewarding if you do but the main game is probably 100% doable without it. Your feelings may change or they may not. For me it went from "I'll play through the game and just do what catches my eye" to a 220-hour 100% clear. About 75% of that time was post-game, because all the true challenge is there. The final boss is basically baby's first REAL enemy.

We'll see how this pans out, definitely way more story focus which I don't mind overall. Stuff like material locations work just like before, i.e. no quick way to tell where they are. It is what it is. In a sense the quests would be literally pointless otherwise; it's basically just there to encourage exploration in my eyes, which causes tedium to the completionist. Salvaging is a better mechanic than some previous ones though. I agree about the map. It works but it's kind of annoying to not have a good map of the current area easily viewable.

Right now I'm just looking forward to the combat getting deeper, getting better field skills for exploration, and just soaking in the amazing music and atmosphere.

Played Xenoblade Chronicles shortly before X came out, really enjoyed it but decided to stop playing it so I wouldn't burn out before X, then X…did nothing for me. And by then, had difficulty getting back into XC1. Had most of the same complaints about the second game, so yeah, think it's much more "not the game for me" than anything. Which is a shame, because I love exploring big maps, but just the sheer number of systems and the unwieldiness of it all...couldn't handle it.

Hope you enjoy, Foolio, as you dive into your 200+ hours of cooking, old-school arcade games, and material-gathering. :)

The combat in this game feels much better to me than in X. The theme, in my mind, is "chaining". Chain statuses into each other, chain specials into each other, and literal chain attacks. Thinking about it this way makes a battle system that seems all over the place at first much more cohesive. It's about setting up your whole party to pull off rapid fire combos. You have to be aware of the state of all your members, which is in stark contrast to X, where by the postgame your party may as well not even been there.
