Fine Line Between Fact and Fiction
@gotta<3OP:
And what does it matters if its a freakin' manga, does that mean we can only discuss about battle tech's, power level and predict facts?
The reason why "this is a manga" is being constantly mentioned is because that's what it is…it's all fiction from the beginning...so to argue with real world facts for a fictional environment is just plain ol' stupid and childish....which is to be expected.
-
Ai yai yai. The above discussion is fucking retarded.
So I actually really like Wet Hair and Blood Splatter. I also liked the tiny focus on that one lowly marine trying to avenge his fallen comrades just to be shut down by their great strength difference. I really want to see a grunt marine prove himself to be boss. That's kind of Coby's job but I'd rather have another bad ass.
-
It means you don't take logic into the equation.
He's a talking Reindeer for gods sake…Would you like to see Luffy flying in the air without any bit of explanation? No!
Then would you like a 200 year old Reindeer with no bit of explanation?A manga has to have logic, just not OUR WORLDS logic…
But the fact here that is worthwhile discussing is that Oda clearly stated:
Chopper is booth human and reindeer so in human age he is 15...
We (meaning I) are not saying it by our worlds logic but by the autor's words..Now wouldn't it be easier to answer in actual years?

Meh not really the time for something like that to happen, the focus will be kept on the SH so Zoro and Sanji will probably one shot them.

Oh, man I'm getting a good laugh today.
This is hilarious.

Just when I think my lowest possible expectations of discourse here are set, you guys go ahead and surprise me.

I really want to see a grunt marine prove himself to be boss. That's kind of Coby's job but I'd rather have another bad ass.
Interesting concept but I much prefer for Oda to "bossify" someone whom we have seen grow throughout the series rather than some random grunt coming out of the the woodwork, pulling down his pants and realizing what he's got, and then mowing his way through the ranks to reach the top. It's just not cool.
I would rather see someone who has earned it from Jump!…NPI...than anything else.

Funny how the topic of his deflection is an off hand joke made by darkstorm and not at all something I had personally said.
Also I had since gone to the thread you all care so much about and set the record straight. But being an internet site the general populous always love to mock and jest cause it's the only way they can tickle joy back into their hearts racked with low self esteem. And yet not one is actually capable of arguing against my final solution to the original debate. They skip over that post and paraphrase what I've said.

The last page and some has been an ever decreasing spiral of terribleness.

Yeah, I get ya. I rather actually don't want a full character I just want to see a random grunt marine that is worth his salt. Maybe he holds off a couple attacks from some new world mid tier before someone comes in to save him.
What the hell is up with Zoro's new obsession with fishing? Did Mihawk not feed him and force him to fend for himself?
-
Arlong Park just won the internet

Today I had a bad day, but this thread made everything better.
You are my best friend AP.

Yeah, I get ya. I rather actually don't want a full character I just want to see a random grunt marine that is worth his salt. Maybe he holds off a couple attacks from some new world mid tier before someone comes in to save him.
Hey I am totally down for all of that…just as long as this would-be Big Balled Soldier doesn't become "Boss"...badass? Sure why not? VA? Bring it on! Admiral? Hell if he earned it then yeah. Boss? Fuck outta here, that's Coby's seat bitch! Haha.
What the hell is up with Zoro's new obsession with fishing? Did Mihawk not feed him and force him to fend for himself?
Such a question has been lingering in my mind as well. I have a couple of speculations…one even remotely worth mentioning is the fact that if you can cut schools of fish while in the water....then I guess that says alot about your swordsmanship...I dunno....it's kinda stupid.
-
I see nothing epic here.
Only AP being AP.

no seriously where's the damn list

I need to lurk here more. This was quite an entertaining conversation.

Have you noticed that this gerneration of rookies is different from the Supernova in that none of the supernova would've joined Luffy's crew?
-
@Mono631:

I can think of a few reasons, starting with Luffy wasn't nearly so infamous when the other supernovas (supernovae?) where on the archipelago. Also, depending on the age of the pirate they might've gotten into it after hearing about Luffy's actions, maybe even aiming to join his crew from the beginning. Thirdly, Luffy wasn't really trying to get any more crewmembers at the time, Fluffy is purposefully attempting to gather people and is willing to intimidate, kill, and likely bribe to get it. The only two important rookies we saw, the brothers, might have been convinced to join with some combination of Luffy's fame and promise of more marines to kill.
Also, its the beginning of a New Age, we've only seen 2 chapters so far. Hard to tell what's been going on in the last 2 years, how the world might have changed, how the spirit of the times has moved.

How insightful!!

@Semil
He was saying that if Luffy had the name he has now, and was recruiting none of the Super Nova's would want to join him, the only one I see doing it would be Bege, and I have my doubts! -
I can see how the new pirates might want to join now. Seeing as to how Luffy could have inspired them.
-
I'm amazed at this forums… So here its stupid to discuss the age of a main character, gotta note that!
@Mono 6321
I don't think Luffy would inspire ruthless killers like Coribou and Caribou, but yet we don't know how the papers expressed Luffy's actions... probably not in a good way, xD! -
Damn AP. I thought the nakamate thread was where you condensed and stored your terrible conversations, but the past few pages have proven me wrong.

When it doesn't matter at all yeah its a bit stupid.

Quit with all the off-topic discussion, and comments about how the thread has become off-topic.

Sorry, freedom-sama~!
Anyway, to the person talking about none of the last supernovae having been willing to join Luffy, it's true, they were pretty headstrong. Unless Drake joined Kaidou or something, I don't think any of them would have ever been willing to be considered a minion, even a minion with a high position. They had more… ambition than that, ne? :P
Also, Monkey D. Boa should post more. At least once per page. [/ero]

Dont encourage him seriously…
The Supernovas issue... there are probably others, the ones joining Fluffy are probably just bloodlust fuckheads like the Caribou bros, Zoro cut those fodder pirates ship for example so yeah like them a lot of pirates specially Supernovas wich should be consiredably and have their own objectives, couldnt care less to join Luffy or any other crew for that matter and probably just left the island or ignored what was going on.
Im more interested in seeing the ones from Luffy gen then seeing more new pirates so no need for Oda to expand on that in my opnion.
-

its bc they were once again inspired by greed (one piece treasure
) …im gonna go on a limb and say most new pirates are in it for treasure and dont have that same backbone the old SN had
-
Im surprised, Fluffy can make such great speech !
-
Yeah, "From this point forward, you're all my bitches" is really profound.

I don't think Luffy would inspire ruthless killers like Coribou and Caribou, but yet we don't know how the papers expressed Luffy's actions… probably not in a good way, xD!I think that's a fair point - as we're unsure of how Luffy's superficially immoral (but actually just) actions have been portrayed by the World Government, it could be entirely logical for Luffy to inspire ruthless arseholes like Caribou, Fluffy et al. In fact, it would make perfect sense.

Luffy, in the public eye, is insane. . .
He destroyed enies Lobby, invaded Impel Down, escaped Impel down, was at the war (and destruction) of Marineford, is the son of Dragon and Garp and brother of Ace, has punched a tenryubito in plain sight. At the war his alies are Ivankov, crocodile and Jimbei, which are major characters in the One Piece world and have diverted from the "rightious path" of the government and after the war he is sighted with none other than the dark king at marine fordm again doing something outrageous and crazy. So if one was to think most people are on the government side than indeed Luffy is a big thread and a dangerous and outragious character that stops at nothing, not even declaring war against the government itself and is a danger to society. -
Yeah and did'nt Eustass Kidd say "he's as crazy as I heard" or something like that?
-
If we count Chopper's age by reindeer years, it could kind of explain why his brain disfunctions.
Alzheimer Chopper sounds so damn depressing.
-
wait. Time Skip + change in physical appearance = new voices? Oh dear anime plz dont kill the voices

According to One Piece wikia…
…the Earth rests on the back of a giant turtle.
Regarding Chopper.
The first real marker we have for him is 6 (now 8) years ago.
Although it's not responsible to apply real-world facts to the comic, (and I doubt Oda actually considered this beyond thinking, "I'm gonna make him look cooler later"), if Chopper ate the DF BEFORE the age of three, when reindeer reach full maturity, it's possible that Oda could argue it stunted his growth. But for him to show no to little growth in 3 years and then sprout in 2?
Hard to believe but if Oda explained it via DF hax then it'd work. For instance, he ages slower in his human form and human-beast form than in his reindeer form and therefore if he spent a significant amount of time in those forms that could account for his stinted growth in his original form.
As Chopper was/is(?) a naive juvenile and the 'baby' of the crew, personally I'd find it difficult to believe he was born 15 years ago. As it stands Oda has yet to clarify his statement as it could be taken either way.
I'm personally of the belief that prior to the skip he was approximately 7 years old. I went searching for some J-thoughts on the topic and came up with this frightening wall of text where the author happens to agree with the 'about 7' approximation.
http://puru-i.net/onepiece/data/tujo/078.html
They also cite the possibility of living in the various forms affecting his age (not growth as this was pre-skip) and how that MIGHT make the math work.
-
Because we'll see the results of luffys training (even a bit will do) :D
I bet Luffy wont even need to stretch his arms/legs to take out the entire fake SH crew.
-
Maybe Luffy is now able to use his Jet punches without the gear 2.

I have always seen chopper as a 6 years old kid with medicine knowledge of a professional doctor.
Good thing he is not retarded. -

Well isn't that Oda's point? We still don't know for certain but as far as maturity he appears to be what we'd call a 15-year old. Can a 15-year old be a medical genius?
They can on 90's TV.
I guess if a teen can learn crazy med skillz a 10-year old can draw better maps than most cartographers.
-
So, is the overall idea that the Caribou bros. are gonna be fodderized? Not even able to withstand a haki blast type of fodder? Or 1-2 panel to go down in a "fight" kind of fodder?
It's not the time for an epic fight, so if: a-there's some kind of fighting, it will be fast. They have to sail. Now. Raileigh said so, and Raileigh is the boss. b-there's no fighting, the marines kill the fakes and the journey starts. c-there's no fight, the marines kill the fakes, but the Coribou bros. escape and come back later. d- there's no fight, and everyone escapes from the marines. Even fluffy and the rest will come back later.
So, options?
