I think what i can be heroic is trying to say is that Shirahoshi's tragedy is more relatable to the every day reader than is Jinbe's.
Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)

I clearly said 'anyone concluding or even considering that this flashback is at all tragic for Hodi is an idiot'.
Well then you're wrong because even though you vehemently disagree with what I'm saying, I'm not an idiot. A matter of opinion again I know, but I'm more than willing to argue that point.
-
@i:
I'm not an idiot.
Or so you say:blink:.
-
@i:
I never once said or implied that 'anything is possible in OP' if you go back and actually read what I said I was saying that crazier things have already happened in OP.
Like which ones for example?
And really? You're saying that Shirahoshi joining would be the number 1 most far fetched, illogical and ridiculous thing to happen in OP to date? Just stop, you're mistakenly translating your opinion into fact. Just because you don't want her to join (which I don't either) doesn't mean that her joining would the most outlandish thing in the series' history.
There's a difference between "not wanting her to join" and "not beliving that she will join". Don't put ideas that I've never hinted at on my behalf.
-
So please tell me, what her fighting skilly are besides crying at sea king appear and how a proper story telling of he walking on land will happen?
Yeah the flashback will be tragic, when her mother will die and she will locked up in the tower. But that all has nothing to do with the main theme of his flashback.
-
Or so you say:blink:.
It's easy to take jabs every time somebody posts something, but other than urouge and brennen not one person has brought anything intelligent to this conversation at all.. which leads me to wonder who the 'idiots' actually are.

You are included to that
Ok let us go away from the flashback and how Shirahoshi is the main person of this… Please try to tell us, how she would work at the Sunny or at land.
-
Everybody needs to go back to the first couple of posts on this subject and read the part where I said I don't think, nor do I want Shirahoshi to join. All of this started because I said (and still believe) that this flashback is more tragic for Shirahoshi than it is for Jinbei. I never said Jinbei's role in this flashback wasn't tragic whatsoever because it absolutely is, I was simply stating that in MY OPINION (see what I did there?) the events that befell Shirahoshi, even at age 6, hit harder than Jinbei's.

Seems like a cop out but I'm not going to name every crazy thing that's ever happened in OP, just to show you that Shirahoshi joining isn't the craziest. Go re-read the mango and see for yourself.
There's a difference between "not wanting her to join" and "not beliving that she will join". Don't put ideas that I've never hinted at on my behalf.
So.. you do want Shirahoshi to join? Or was I correct in assuming that you don't.

You must have forgotten the part where you said you were worried that Shirahoshi may actually join. That's what got most people fired up.
Then you quoted me and replaced my name with Just_Gabe, at which point I gave up on you.

@i:
Are you kidding me? So because she's 6, it's less tragic that her mother is about to die?
Scope and context; remember we are talking long term affects here, not momentary tragedy. That's point one. Point two is that to Jinbe, Fisher Tiger was family. Not his mother, sure, but a relationship and bond similar in depth. Going back to the initial question, however, I happen to know a few people who lost their mom at a very young age (my wife being one of them), and I can assure you that while it was tragic then and is still sad now, the long term affects were not nearly the same for her as they were, for example, for her father who lost his spouse, or her grandfather who lost his daughter. Of course my view on this is subjective, and differing situations make for differing results, but at least looking at Shirahoshi past and then present, she certainly doesn't seem to have changed or been influenced by her mother's death the same way Jinbe was from Tiger's. Speculative, I'll admit, but to this point I don't think I am wrong.

I see what you're saying but even though the trauma of losing you're mother at a young age fades over time, it never goes away, period, so the momentary tragedy statement is lost on me. Shirahoshi's been locked in the same tower for 10 years and where is the very first place she wants to go once Luffy takes her out? To visit her mother's grave because her death is obviously still deeply engraved in her heart/mind. Also it's not like FT's death didn't fade in Jinbei's mind either, he's much more level-headed than Shirahoshi so if anything I see him coming to terms with everything a lot faster/easier than her. At least Jinbei will eventually be able to take meaning away from FT's death, I'm wondering if Shirahoshi will be able to do the same.

No thanks, it's not necesary to reread the manga to see that there isn't a single event that is more ridiculous than Shirahoshi joining.
So.. you do want Shirahoshi to join? Or was I correct in assuming that you don't.
It's not a matter of whether I want her or not to join, but rather that I don't think that she will and any other fantard who thinks she will join doesn't know jack about storywritting.

You're right, I should have clarified a bit more but I feel like my last few posts cleared that up.

Care to explain why that would take the cake as the craziest moment in OP history? Or are you just going to hang behind that statement with nothing to back it up like everybody else. Also, I think whether or not you want her to join is extremely prevalent seeing as you said I put ideas in your head that you never hinted at. Unless you're going to stick with the 'my opinion is better than yours' argument.

Congratulations, you've managed to grasp the complexity of my post. Yes I don't think she's going to join but if she was to join I would definitely not consider that the craziest thing to happen in the history of One Piece, no. I'm still waiting to hear why you think it would be.

You've completely failed to do so thus far.

What? A giant fat princess of a kingdom swimming all the time next to the sunny cuz she can't enter the ship or can't walk on land without being discovered by the marines or cry for her sea king isn't crazy as fuck… and even more... can't be with pirates or the WG would end the cooperation with Neptun and the kingdom and everything her mother has done would be useless, if she is "sailing" with one of the most wanted men alive...
Yes Buggy as Shichibukai is more crazy...

Ugh. Oda has worked very hard to keep general strength tiers in tact. Shirahoshi can barely handle people yelling at her, let alone someone throwing a punch at her. She in no way fulfills the requirements of the future pirate king's crew after a two year timeskip. Then there's the size difference which is too much for even Oda level size consistency to handle. It's not about it "being crazy" it's about it totally destroying the structure of a world that's been developed and reinforced for over 600 chapters.
-
@i:
Shirahoshi's been locked in the same tower for 10 years and where is the very first place she wants to go once Luffy takes her out? To visit her mother's grave because she was never allowed to pay her respects to her mother at her gravesite.
Fixed that for you. And hey, where was Jinbe when we first saw him? Doing the same. Whoops. Let's not lose track of the point here; in respect to how events affect the characters in the story, how it changes them, how their life is different because of their relationship with the person they lost and the act of losing said relationship… which of the two had greater loss? Going back to what I said initially, the comparison is unfair, but if I am forced to compare the two then I cannot divorce him from life as an orphan, Tiger's death, Arlong's release, the World Noble's actions, Otohime's death, or anything else in between or after. They all calculate in to this larger story that had a life changing affect on Jinbe.
Any other argument about Shirahoshi just makes me wonder, "who cares?" This flashback as a whole is extremely tragic to Jinbe, and much more so than any other individual from our point of view; the affect Otohime's death has on Shirahoshi will not be unique to Shirahoshi as she has siblings and a father and a nation who all share the same loss if not in the exact same way, and likewise that small portion of the flashback will not overshadow the entirety of the flashback, let alone Tiger's death and the impact it had on Jinbe and the other Fishman Pirates. This argument is too scattered though, and I've made my points, so I'm going to step out of it having made this last post.
@i:
Easy to do now, but why don't you try that again once we have Otohime's death on panel?
Wait, are you honestly suggesting Otohime's death will be tragic to Hodi in any way, shape, or form? The guy who told his crew to go around Fishman Island having people step on her picture? The guy who was getting angry at Jinbe's actions? They guy who probably threw a party when he heard that Arlong was out there terrorizing the world in his stead?

First off, family members don't 'pay their respects' to their other dead family members, that's what friends/co-workers/acquaintances do. She wanted to go to her mother's grave because she obviously still misses her terribly. Second, get off the Hodi point already. I'm pretty sure I explained what I meant when you brought this up the first time, thus why I was wrong about what I said about Hodi and how tragic the flashback was for him. When I said wait to do that again when Othohime dies I was referring to the effect it will have on Shirahoshi and the rest of the Royal Family. Also, saying the death of Otohime and the tragedy it brought is diminished because Shirahoshi has family that are going through the same thing is borderline ridiculous (yeah yeah I would know). It doesn't matter if it's unique to only one person or not, pain doesn't lessen itself because you have people around you going through the same thing, yeah it's nice to have somebody to relate to but the pain/anger/sadness is definitely still there. Also in that same vein, FT's death was shared and mourned by Jinbei, the Sun Pirates and potentially a lot of slaves who were grateful for his actions at Mariejois (Boa, Marigold, Sandersonia, etc) and I'm pretty sure it hit all of them, with the exception of some of the slaves, just as hard.

Ok, wait until a close family member dies in your family (which I feel the need to say I am not wishing/hoping at all). Go to their grave and just "pay your respects", what I meant by what I said is that Shirahoshi wasn't just paying her respects. I was simply saying that that term didn't properly grasp what she was going through at that time. Seeing her mother's grave for the first time forced her to come to terms with the harsh reality that her mother is dead and gone, in that first instant it became more real than it ever was. She couldn't do that before seeing as she was locked in a tower for the last decade.

Wrong. You are missing the point by a mile. First of all, Shirahoshi has siblings, so her tragedy is in no way unique to her. What I am saying is that your statement, "this flashback is more tragic to Shirahoshi", is completely false because the tragedy affected the entire royal family, not just Shirahoshi. Problem is, even using them as the most tragic party is wrong, because "this flashback" is not tragic because of Otohime's death alone, it is also tragic because of Tiger's death.
@i:

You're pretty good at trying to lessen and ignore the point of others, I can't say for sure but I'm pretty sure that was a liiiittle more than just 'wanting to visit her grave.

Then I guess (like I've said a million times) it boils down to a matter of opinion as to who the flashback is more tragic for. You can argue all you're points as much as you want but you can't change that fact and you can't change my opinion either. Go ahead and throw in a couple more insults as to why I'm stupid/dumb/a moron idc, whatever gets your rocks off.
Your point?
Looks like I'm not the only one missing points by miles, but what I meant was basically the same thing you said about Shirahoshi and her mother's death. I'm saying FT's death isn't unique to Jinbei either, all those people/fishman I mentioned were people who mourned and were in some way/shape/form affected by FT's death as well. So saying Shirahoshi's death isn't unique to just Shirahoshi is a moot point seeing as the exact same goes for Jinbei as far as FT is concerned.

No, I was only saying that because the argument of whether or not it was crazy didn't involve you initially, it was between Gabe and I. So you saying it's not a matter of it being crazy before didn't really mean anything to me because your opinion was (again) that it wasn't a matter of it being crazy, ours wasn't.
What in blazes do you think she wanted to do, raise her from the dead?
I was saying that it was more than just her 'paying her respects' or just wanting to visit her grave. Meaning more than that emotionally, like her initially being face-to-face with the reality that her mother is dead after 10 years of being locked away from everything. She was left with nothing but her thoughts all that time and I'm guessing that most of them revolved around the tragedy that befell her family.

That's what "paying her respects" means, as all of what you mentioned falls under its umbrella of meaning. Besides, you seriously think she hasn't faced the reality of her mother being dead while being locked in her room for 10 years? Utterly ridiculous.

mods, what are you DOING in this cesspit? D:
Hmm… I suppose it's some twisted form of amusement that we like to indulge in from time to time. Besides, me and bren have been touting the theory that Jinbe would join for 2 years, which was at a time when most people called us crazy for it.
-
But it wasn't his opinion either. He said it was ridiculous, not crazy, which is what I was arguing as well. Are you trolling or are you that turned around that you don't know which way is forward?
You are aware that crazy and ridiculous are synonyms, right? The first thing Gabe said to me was that it would be far-fetched, illogical and ridiculous. Which is why I replied by saying that crazier things have happened. That's what started the argument over the craziness of Shirahoshi joining, not the probability. We were going back and forth about naming something 'more crazy' than said joining when you chimed in saying "It's not about it being crazy" which is when I said what I just said to you. Pretty sure my sense of direction is just fine btw, but thanks for the concern.
Besides, you seriously think she hasn't faced the reality of her mother being dead while being locked in her room for 10 years? Utterly ridiculous.
There's a difference between finding out somebody died and seeing their corpse (or in this case grave) for the first time.

Well at least Jinbe being a possibility isn't as off the wall as some other choices. I think a Fishmen would be a good addition to the Strawhats but I'd prefer someone other than Jinbe as he's not really a character I like.

Wow, you can be seriously headache inducing. I'm supporting the opinion that it would be "far-fetched, illogical, and ridiculous." You're acting like I can't have that opinion since I'm not the one you quoted saying it. And it isn't about being crazy, as that word isn't synonymous with bad writing the way the 3 words that were actually used are.
Besides, the question has been raised to you and you've done nothing but hide from it. If "crazier things have happened" then name one.

Not much of one. And even if you do want to focus on that insignificant difference, what does it matter?

Jesus christ man the only reason I ever even brought up you saying what you initially said was because I was mentioning that the reason it didn't matter if it was crazy or not to you was me acknowledging your opinion but also still directing what I was saying to the person I was initially talking to. I'm not saying you can't have your opinion, go wild, you are a mod after all.

Well that would just be a matter of opinion and no matter what I say you'll just find a reason to shit on mine and tell me why it isn't crazy and why Shirahoshi joining was but fuck it, I'll bite. To me as terrible a fit as it would be, Shirahoshi joining the straw hats isn't as crazy as the 1 in a trillion coincidence of somebody forgetting to take off their lens cap when taking Sanji's wanted picture, sketching out their best mental image of that person they saw in their hand (and not being a very good artist at that) and having that person end up actually existing, looking ex-act-ly as they were mistakenly drew.

I'm not focusing on anything, the vagina brigade keeps bringing up points as to why I'm so wrong about what I'm saying. You said it was 'utterly ridiculous' to say she hasn't come to terms with her mother's death and I replied saying it was different seeing them dead then hearing they died. That's why I said it, I wasn't focusing on anything and aside from what I'm writing to you now about it I never even mentioned that before. So make like Aokiji and chill!

Hmm… I suppose it's some twisted form of amusement that we like to indulge in from time to time. Besides, me and bren have been touting the theory that Jinbe would join for 2 years, which was at a time when most people called us crazy for it.
Hey, don't forget us little people in the same camp as you. :P

Call the men in the white coats: this one's a keeper.
There are some brave, brave soldiers in this thread.
I salute you!
…and flee for my life.

I truly wonder should this arc conclude without a Crewmate decided …. what terrible and jaw-dropping threads will follow as without a focus point the speculation will run awry.
Still this latest arc was unique but does take some wind out of my sails - with Hatchan gone in the Flashbacks it leaves only Jinbei as the unique link to the SH's but then again if the Flashback concludes in the next 2 chapters it will be down to how the rest of the arc plays out. -
Best post on this thread in a while.
is this some kind of sarcasm?
Why? I think he fits enough.. He suffer from past too..
And his role is clear.. We needs dancer in ship.. Will match perfectly with brooke..
Comparing to the other.. Shirahoshi don't have clear role.. And jinbe.. (what is helmsman?)his dream? Same with otohime..
Enough said..

Okay so why would the third Neptune Brother randomly join the SH?
I'd take Fukaboshi over him any day.
Still ,I don't see how anyone can doubt Jinbe,it's so obvious it hurts.
Helmsmen is the guy who steers the ship. Why would they need a dancer ???

Jimbei is obviously an important character. Not necessarily a crew member inductee. I feel that he is getting more and more likely as the story progresses, and if a character were to join in this arc, Jimbei would most definitely be the one, but there is really nothing to boost one's certainty to 100% as of this moment.

I'll give you that the situation you mention is extremely coincidental, but it isn't world breaking in any way, shape, or form like Shirahoshi joining would be.

She has definitely had enough time to come to term with her mother's death. I think you're trying to say something else in regards to how she had a lot built up that she needed to visit the grave site in order to unload it all. But that… doesn't really have any point as far as I can tell.
Hey, don't forget us little people in the same camp as you. :P
Were you arguing about it 2 years ago? I don't really remember either way. For all I know this isn't even the first time I've asked.

Would that be as soon as he was introduced or once he was broken out? No, I admit I didn't see it quite that early. Once he showed off his abilities on the battleship was when it started becoming noticeable to me. What gave it away you guys earlier than that?
