Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

For me, it mostly beacuse Amazon is cheaper then rightstuf. Because rightstuf taxes people that live in Iowa. Which makes it even more expensive for me. Amazon is just more cheaper. And plus Amazon you get free shipping for anything over $25.
-
hey, you guys touting about the true fan shit
shut up
Zek simply wants his collection to match. There's no I DUN WANNA BUY BECAUSE I CAN WATCH IT FREE ON HULUBUREDSFSDFJ.
Most people who buy the Voyages are going to CONTINUE TO BUY THE VOYAGES.
Thus most people who got on the bandwagon later and bought the Collections are going to CONTINUE TO BUY THE COLLECTIONS OR EVEN JUMP TO VOYAGES.
Jump down his throat when he refuses to pay for any of it, but don't fucking bitch at the guy for buying the Collections.
-
The only people I think I'd really bitch about are people that want the dub to continue but just wait for it to illegally uploaded, and don't understand that not buying won't help. Or people that really want it but they say they have more important things to buy like video games. I've heard that before.
Anyway I don't want to bitch back-and-forth with an endless cycle of bitching so no more bitching :).
-
For me, I just don't understand Zek's logic behind waiting, given that there's no real benefit. If it's an OCD thing, then that, I can most certainly understand.
And Arc, as far as ordering from Rightstuf goes, with them, you can usually get it a little early…sometimes as much as a few weeks. That's really the only real benefit to them over Amazon. I usually get things from Amazon, too but might just go with Rightstuf this time for that reason.

Thx for the answer. While it would be nice to get it earlier, I'm fine with getting it from Amazon.
Man I can't wait to hear foxy dubbed, wish we can get a trailer soon or something to keep us contempt for a bit.

If everybody buys the voyages, nobody will buy the Collections, because, hey, not everybody can afford buying two or three sets with the exact same episodes. It
s not like there is any new supercool extra on the collections to make people want to buy them after they already own the Season set. I think Funimation is well aware that some people will be waiting for the collections now instead of buying each single set. As dirt monkey AL said, it
s not like Zek`s just a freeloader who wants to get the episodes without paying for them. This whole "You`re not a true fan" bullshit is obnoxious and aggravating.
-

Sent from my SPH-M820-BST using Tapatalk 2Well if they gave us a trailer now they'd have to give cover art too (I doubt we'd be seeing a temp cover at this stage) and possibly even Foxy's voice (wouldn't be surprised if he narrated the trailer. With all that we'd have nothing to look forward to until the release two months down the line.
And while I'd personally prefer if Zek got the Voyages it's not like he's doing a bad thing by purchasing the Collections. FUNimation's releasing those because people are meant to buy them. I think them having the Collections in mind and the people buying them are also part of why this first Voyage for Season 4 is so much cheaper.
-
seriously people the collections for season 4 aren't going to be happening for a couple of years, unless they choose to release the collections with the price being upped quite dramatically per every 2 season 4 voyages. That's something they may do , and then the people who buy the voyages can continue to purchase those , whilst the collection enthusiasts can dish out more dough for their precious box art :P.

I think everyone knows FUNi won't keep releasing Collections after 8. And releasing Collections 9+ following the releases of S4 still doesn't work since we'll be looking at (most likely) a 5 Voyage season. They could awkwardly release Collections 9 and 10 (after Season 4) then stop, or just take a long break until the (likely to be) 5 Voyage 5th Season completes release.
-
whenever the collections do release , i can see them being not much cheaper than the price of 2 voyages.
-
Season 4 First Voyage right now is up on Amazon top 100 for Manga and Anime.
-
Cool. Especially considering it was only put up on Amazon yesterday, right?
Hm. I don't see it anywhere. Although I shook my head when I saw what FUNi-licensed series is at #1 right now.

It's #91, dude. Freezing and Shangri-La's boxart just got leaked. Hopefully we'll have s4v1 and Collection 7 art tonight or tomorrow.

How on earth is it an OCD thing to simply want a complete collection. He bought the collection sets, and he simply wants to continue that. Why is that hard to understand.
Not everybody can immediately pay for the $30-something DVD's when they come out, and some people don't want to pay that much money for 12 episodes. I agree and I understand it. I think the Voyages are way too overpriced for that amount of episodes.
Here's the difference: I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum, I have a collection of all of the voyages and I plan to continue that.
-
You sure? Number 91 is the Island earth.

Hm. Well… Zek referred to it as an OCD thing himself a couple pages back. Could we please not have an argument about this? It was just about ready to die no need to bring it back.
-
It still 91 on my side.
-
Sorry Maron, I'm not intending to argue with this statement, but what I meant by that was I can understand if it would bug him to have both collections and voyages sitting on the shelf looking so mismatched. I know I've gone out of my way and spent more money on something in the past just to satisfy my own obsessiveness.
And I see it at #92 as of this moment on the Anime and Manga list.

Actually when I mentioned OCD I wasn't talking about your post I was referring to Zek's:
@Zek:
That's excellent! I won't be buying until it's available as part of a Collection, however. My OCD won't allow out of place sets :P
-
Yeah, I know, I didn't type that up very clearly. I shifted whom I was addressing in the middle of the sentence. Bad form on my part.
-
What I hope beyond hope for is that, assuming there's a 2-month release schedule for S4 like in the past, the gap between that and S5 releases won't be more than a few months more. At the moment, we're already looking at S4V5 releasing around April/May of 2013, a whole year from now. If we could get S5V1 out by July/Aug. of next year, that would be all I could hope for. If there's any more negotiation trouble, however, we might not even see it until close to 2014.
So, the best way to assure the gap is kept short enough is to buy those S4 Voyages (and Collections 1-8 for your friends. ;D) as quickly and consistently as possible.
-
I still think we'd be seeing a gap of some sort. I mean look at Fairy Tail. Right now ALL the sets are in the top 10 on Amazon (and all the sets sold really well when first released, even though they were they were so close) and FUNi has clearly shown they are interested in continuing ("FT is selling well, stay tuned") yet there's still no word on more releases after it ended two months ago.
Getting a July/August release would mean no gap at all. I think we should buy the sets but I seriously doubt we'd be lucky enough to get no gap.
-
As long as there's no hiccups, and the cast continues to have as much fun with the show as they seem to be having, that scenario isn't too terribly far-fetched. They'll be done dubbing season 4 in the next couple months, the first few voyages will be out by year's end, rights can be discussed before then, they start workin on season 5 in January…first voyage out by Summer.
This is all factored in with no idea how negotiations work and how long that takes to get working.
-
The Fairy Tail DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Packs were FUNi's highest selling titles for the year of 2011…I'm sure they'll announce more episodes for that this Summer or something but FT probably aren't looking at a release until next year.
So OP would have to sell astronomically well for it to even have a chance of getting even a small gap, nevermind no gap at all. It's not like they're getting these seasons for free. Then again for FT the reason they may not be releasing now is because they made the release schedule so close together that they weren't given much time to negotiate for more...I guess.
-
If this gets on Toonami, we're guaranteed to get season five sooner than season four. That's the main reason I want a tv deal- consistent episodes, and as long as the channel wants them, Funi will keep buying them.
-
Actually that depends on whether they'd start off with Season 4 or Season 1.
-
….. It sounds like Fairy Tail is selling better than One Piece. =(

If Dvd's are still coming then its doing well enough, i wouldn't worry too much about ranks.
Pre-ordered on amazon. Is it August yet? :)
We have season confirmation, we have release dates. Now we can quit complaining for now.
-
^ Bwahahaha. Do you even know how a fandom works? There will always be complaining.
Always

Well my point was that there will always be a gap between seasons. Even though FT is such a high top seller it's still not going to have any more sets released this entire year.
And who's complaining?

Okay, I did something pretty crazy, but I hope it'll make even a modicum of difference. Apart from the S4 set I ordered earlier, I just placed an order of not 1, not 5, but 10 more copies from RS. How much will it cost me with the Funi sale and Got Anime discount? $215.90. There. I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and as long as I don't suddenly go bankrupt before August, I'm sticking to it. Maybe I'll resell them later (and use the money for charity, even), maybe I'll give them away, but whatever I do, I'm making my voice heard right now while it counts the most.
So I challenge all of you who want this franchise to succeed, buy an extra copy. By 5 extra. Buy 10 like me, or even 20. Buy however much you can, feasibly and in good conscience, afford to buy. Even if it's just this one set, even if it's only 5 of us buying 10 sets, or 10 of us buying 5 sets, let's make our purchasing power count right now.
I suppose if you don't want to do that, you can at least donate what you can to the charity RS is supporting, Compassionate Journeys, or any other charity you like. But supporting both at once would be even better!

Wow! Are you doing this as an investment, hoping to sell them more in the future? Or just out of pure fandom?
-
From reading the post it's pretty obvious that it's the latter.
-
Hey I'm all for fandom and purchasing DVD's, but one set is my limit. If I have extra cash, I'll buy a different anime set.
Example: just pre-ordered the S4V1 set from amazon, but I also purchased the Broken Blade Blu-Ray, and the 1st Gundam 0079 dvd set. (A Sentai set and a Bandai set).
Still supporting the industry, but I spread the love around. If I like the series, odds are I will try to buy the set when I can.
However when certain companies go back to the old model of limited release $200-$500 sets (looking at you ANIPLEX and your Fate/Zero 1st season set!)…unfortunately my support and my wallet can only go so far. I can take that 400 and buy about 10-15 movies and sets instead of the one. I love Fate/Zero but I simply can't afford that.
Funimation's model in America is a big part of why they became top dog and pulled the rug out from under geneon, adv, bandai and viz.
-
well they cant keep taking all these ridiculous breaks imbetween seasons or the series is never going to be finished :(. I really wish they'd of included enies lobby in the season 4 deal , they certainly wouldn't of regretted it. Funi isn't silly and I beleive they are already thinking well ahead to season 5. There's no way i can stomach to wait til 2014 for enies lobby thats just a piss take and i think they know it too. Maybe they are in negotiations now trying to secure enies lobby for when they finish dubbing season 4 or perhaps they are waiting til the first few voyages come out to look at the sales. In any case if there is a break at all im sure it's not going to be as painfully long as previously. This is the season that could potentially make One Piece in north america!
-
I'm pretty sure one of the things that helped "Fairy Tail" sales was that it actually has a Blu-Ray.
Also I think releasing 205 episodes with barely much of a gap between releases was a problem. With only one particular season being licensed this time around, and a really popular one at that, and depending on the release schedule, Season 4 could sell much better than season 3
-
Think of it this way. Because there is a possability that someday down the line there might very well be a bluray version of 207 onward. Since it looks like we will not be getting the bluray for a long time. It does not really matter what previous version you bought, collections or voyages because after collection 8 your shelf is going to someday have bluray versions of One Piece. So you might as well buy the voyages from here on out for the DVD release and replace them with the blurays if and when that ever happens. Any way my One Piece Shrine Shelf is going to look wonky no matter what.
If you choose to wait for collection 9 dvd's then remember that someday you might want to replace them with blurays. So might as well get the dvd voyages from here on out untill the blurays are released. -
^ OBEY THIS.

My god, you are awesome. I may buy 2 copies, but that'd be it.

I heard a rumor that One Piece S4V1 cover art should be ready tomorrow. Just a rumor though so don't hold your breath.

What're the average sales numbers of a One Piece DVD set (voyages/collections)? The last I heard each one sells somewhere in the thousands, but I'm not too sure about that because it sounds too small.. Though If that's really the case then every sale really does count.
-
Where did you hear that from? Because I doubt we're getting cover art this soon…

Actually it probably wouldn't surprise me if we do, the Shakugan no Shana Season 1 cover has just been released by FUNimation and that ain't out until the 21st of August, seeing that the One Piece DVD will be released on the 7th August is giving me hope that it should be released shortly. But then again seeing as it took a long time to even see a solication for this title it will probably take ages for the cover to be released.
-

Well with it being an August release, it makes sense that we wouldn't find out the release date until mid-May. And the set is only a couple of months off, so…the idea of the coverart taking a long time to show up doesn't hold much water. I'm sure that cover was completed a long time ago. They're not going to hide the cover to compensate for the Season 4 wait. If they did that we'd be getting a blank cover on release with the real one TBD.

Just to clear a few things up on what I initially wrote, It was only a joke about the cover taking a long time to come out, as I said first in my original post I do think the cover will be out in the next day or two just as samwize said (even though it was said that it is only a rumor) since the Shakugan no Shana Season 1 cover is already out and that will be released after the first voyage of season 4.

From me, I have asked WTK about it and he told me that he asked FUNimation about when we should see cover art's for August and they said by the end of the work week…which is Friday.
