What release we're up to, major retailers of the boxsets, what's been changed and what you get in each boxset, which episodes have commentary on which voyages, release for future boxsets, voice actor list and special features for each voyage.

I'll put something together that does the job I think… gimme a bit...

Did a quick FAQ. Am I missing anything?
! One Piece DVD FAQ:
! Q: Up to what episode has been released in FUNimation Dub format?
A: Episode 205 is the end of FUNimation's "Season 3" and is the current point that FUNimation is at.
! Q: Are more episodes coming and when?
A: Yes, FUNimation has confirmed that they have aquired "Season 4" which consists of the entire Davy Back Fight, Water Seven, and all filler that falls between. This season will encompass Episodes 206-263.
! Q: What about the movies?
A: FUNimation's original license included Movie 8 (Episode of Alabasta) and it was dubbed and released on both DVD and Blu-ray. So far, no other movies have been announced as aquired by FUNimation, not even as part of the Season 4 package.
! Q: What about "Season 5" then?
A: We have no information about that and likely won't until after Season 4 has finished its run.
! Q: In what format are the DVDs? IE: How many episodes per set?
A: There are currently two release formats for One Piece. First a set of 12-14 episode "Voyages" comes out as the initial release for a given season. Then, shortly after the season finishes its run, FUNimation re-releases the series on lower priced "Collection" sets which are each comprised of two voyages in new packaging (22-26 Episodes Each). Despite this, the disc contents are exactly the same as the voyages right down to the menus.
! Q: What episode are available in those formats?
A: Episodes 1-130 are available in Collection format with the rest being available in only Voyages. As the Collections are released, the corresponding Voyage releases are discontinued.
! Q: Will Season 4 be Voyages or Collections?
A: We have no direct answer to that yet, but the most likely answer is that they will release this season as they released the previous ones. With a 12-14 Episode "Voyage" release first, and then follow it up with a "Collection" re-release after the Voyages finish their run.
! Q: What about Blu-ray? Will the series ever be Re-released in HD?
A: Episodes 1-206 Were produced in Standard Definition via digital ink and paint, therefore an HD Master of these episodes does not exist. For this reason, any Blu-ray that could be relased of this material would be an upscale, which most Blu-ray players already do automatically to SD DVDs. For this reason, while a Blu-ray release of this material is possible, it isn't exactly sound. Either way, there is no information whatsoever about such a release.
! Q: But what about 207+ then?
A: That is the point by which the series began to be produced in Native HD. FUNimation has revealed in their press release that they have the 16:9 Widescreen HD masters of those episodes.
! Q: Then, will we get a Blu-ray of that?
A: FUNimation made no direct specification of a Blu-ray release but noted it was possible and they would be looking into the release format. Most likely, if a Blu-ray release happens it will either be a dual-release (IE: Both a DVD and A Blu-ray release simultaniously) as they have done with Dragon Ball Kai or they will do a Blu-ray/DVD "Combo Pack" with both formats in one box as they have done with Fairy Tail.
! Q: Are FUNimation's releases Uncut?
A: Yes, Absolutely no in-episode animation content has been changed whatsoever from the Japanese DVD release.
! Q: Are there any differences at all then?
A: FUNimation has a new "Gold" logo that they use for their releases, the Logo has been replaced wherever it appears. (IE, opening and closing themes and Eyecatches) Also, the episode title cards (Reading off the name of the episode) have been rendered in English and no Japanese option is available for them. Other than that, the material is left alone.
! Q: Is Zoro "Zoro" or is he "Zolo"?
A: Zoro's name is rendered as "Zoro" in all text appearences (Subtitles, title cards, packaging etc) and spoken word (dub, special features) on FUNimation's DVDs. For some reason, his wanted poster in the Eyecatch will occasionally say "Zolo" on the season 1 discs, but this is both an unintentional error that was corrected and is on screen for less than one second and to see it, you must frame-by-frame view the scene. Otheriwse he is "Zoro" at all times.
! Q: How is the Quality Dub?
A: This is subjective from person to person, but has recieved positive response from fans overall.
! Q: Is the translation accurate in both formats?
A: Yes, the subtitles are accurate to what is being said, however nothing is left in Japanese except for honorifics and the occasional name. All words are translated to English including Devil Fruit names, attacks, Shichibukai (to Seven Warlords of the Sea) and "Nakama".
The dub is mostly accurate but occasionally has to make slight alterations to match Lip-flap
! Q: What about all the series-specific terms?
A: Everything is translated. For the first 2 seasons, a very small number of terms had to be left in their Viz/4kids forms at the request of Toei animation. However, they are few and far between. (Such as one or two of Kuro and Arlong's attacks) -

With that said I'll go ahead and edit this into the first post.
EDIT: done

Just ordered One Piece season 2 voyage 6 on Amazon, for some reason this the only voyage(besides the filler only season 2 voyage 7 boxset) that I don't have. There's only 2 other copy's left on Amazon, so go for it if you don't have it!

Oh, hardy har har.
-
Hey Rin, the FAQ looks pretty good, but if I may make a suggestion? On the question about season five, perhaps adding a line saying something to the effect of, "However, FUNimation has indicated that they have no intentions of dropping the series." Yeah, it's not exactly an official season 5+ confirmation, but perhaps it could at least keep panic to a minimum.
-
I wonder if the series will go on blu ray?? what do you think guys?
-
Are you asking us if that will happen or what our thoughts are on the subject?
Because if you're asking if it will happen, we already have that as part of the FAQ we JUST put on the front page.
-
Good job on the FAQ. I knew it all but it was nice to be refreshed.
-
Just wanted to say that I like the thread title change.
-
Good job on the FAQ.
This should help prevent any more repetitive questions. -
Any reason to not just update the Stickied FAQ at the top of the sub-forum?
-
In regards to pre-206 episodes getting blu-ray treatment, it is possible that Toei may decide to go back to the film elements of those episodes and transfer them for HD like they did with Dragon Ball Z. Of course they only did it with DBZ to milk an already finished series, but its possible (though unlikely) they may one day decide to do the same with One Piece.
-
There's always a possibility, but obviously there wont be any for a long time, there still doing the log collections over there anyway.
I'd give it another 10 years

There are no film elements. The show is digital animation. The movies, though, are probably on film, but not the TV series.

I probably will but in the meantime this thread is already the most active so I figured it would work here too.

Well, if they do what Kai should have been and retrace over everything, it would work, Toei would have to be the ones to do that tho.

FUNimation is the one putting DragonBall Z on Blu-ray.
Uh, why isn't anyone answering my questions?
Most likely because the title of the thread hints to a post that answers some questions that surprisingly bare a striking resemblance to the questions you asked.
-
Uh, why isn't anyone answering my questions?
It was actually mildly snicker-worthy the first time, bringing it back up is overkill and unfunny.

On another subject, I finally completed my One Piece dvd collection with getting season 2 voyage 6! Alright, I'm ready the new world, I mean season 4!

Can't make new threads. Hope this doesn't get buried.
While at Comic Con, I got Eric Vale and Chris Sabat to read lines for me (which I mixed with Unlimited Adventure and previous seasons). That's how I made these! Enjoy.
- Sanji - ZoroI wanted to make more, but Funimation's catching up and I don't live around their studio to bug Stephanie Young all day.

Wow has anyone seen the best-selling anime list on amazon as of this posting? Collection Four is selling really well.
-
The One Piece dvd sets been on top 100 anime and Manga on Amazon for the last couple of months.
-
Yeah but last I checked Collection Four was the #2 best-selling anime DVD, that rarely happens!
-
It's number 1 right now.
-
Such is the power of a cute reindeer mascot.
-
Yeah! Go Chopper!
-
With collection 4 in my hands I also have the entire dub on my shelf. Collection boxes, season boxes and hopfully soon blueray boxes. :)

Why else do you think a certain company skipped over Little Garden?
Yes I know that's not the real reason (that isn't known) but it's still a funny theory. -

Funimation need to play catch up quite badly!

@gum:
Funimation need to play catch up quite badly!
If the series starts to rack up some serious cash, then they will bump it up. hasn't this series just been selling averagely compared to the others?
Plus how well is it doing UN these other places, and how long did it take for them to get to that point?
I doubt that they blazed through those episodes and got them in one go

Not to mention FUNi's just gotten into their 4th year of releasing OP, while these other places likely have had it way longer.

This could also answer why One Piece S2 V7 got to top sales in amazon too. Now that I think about it, S2V7 and Collection 4 are the only One Piece DVDs that I've seen on the top list in amazon.

Wow, and that's the "filler" set.
Speaking of Collection 4, I bought it along with the last copy of Collection 1 on Amazon (gotta get that free shipping). I'll get Collection 2 and 3 at a later date. Hopefully not too late that it goes out of print.
-
So people buy based on the covers.
…
Wonderful. -__-

My Collection 5 shipped. You guys may want to check the status's of your order's.
