Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

Yeah, Funimation is current with One Piece at this point (which the simulcast would already suggest). In '09 Travis Willingham told me he's already seen Ace vs Blackbeard, in early '10 Eric Vale emphasized they've had to watch ALL of One Piece, and then Jerry Jewell confirmed the same thing in late '10 (which was shocking that someone even as minor to One Piece as him had to do the same). That's when my friend and I suggested he play Brook and he actually really considered it.

So yeah, Funi knows their One Piece, lol

While Travis having to watch further episodes of the show due to the job as opposed to being a fan is debatable, Eric Vale is also a script writer for the series and thus, it is entirely possible that he has to look at future episodes so as to make sure there aren't any scripting conflicts. Of course it's not been perfect but it could be much worse.

Glad someone else suggested Jewell voice Brook. I think they'd make a good match personally.

Don't forget Yugioh! And no i'm not kidding, I really want to see Funimation get Yugioh because it actually is a good show and its dub was 4kids second worst of all time (One Piece being number 1 of coarse.)

4Kids hasn't dropped the Yu-Gi-Oh! license. The only reason FUNimation got One Piece was because 4Kids dropped it.

Who 'we' is may be uncertain, but Vale being the script writer suggests the important people who make the show happen have in fact seen all of it. And if Jerry Jewell is one of those people, then who's to say how many it applies to, be it major or minor.

Yes, I'm trying to find a live feed or Twitter updates - even if there aren't any One Piece updates there might be other fun things licensed.

EDIT: They would be at about the halfway point, it seems - two people tweeted that the panel was about to start roughly a half hour ago but I haven't seen any updates since. However, last year's AN did not seem to have a license announcement based on an old ANN report.

It's in Toronto and I'm not sure about a live feed. But seeing as how FUNimation's answer to our One Piece questions hasn't changed since we first started asking them I highly doubt we'll get any OP announcement that doesn't have to do with the collections.

Oh I agree the chances of us getting Season 4 (and maybe tacking on 5 as well?) are pretty slim butthere could be other licenses announced or, now that I'm thinking about it, other OP questions answered (like maybe merchandise or something).

Ok, so they said "Stay tuned for a One Piece announcement at a upcoming con". My take on this is that they are waiting till one of the big cons this summer to make the big announcement.

The fact that they've all but officially announced more OP makes me hopeful they've already started dubbing more episodes and that the gap between the announcement and the next releases won't be too far apart.

Yea, Doctor was tweeting the whole time. I think we've got all the confirmation we need to say they definitely WANT to continue dubbing it, meaning the sales must be doing pretty good for them to at the least try and negotiate with Toei to get more.

The "Stay Tuned" for an OP announcement at an "Upcoming Con" thing seems to be a good sign to me. I don't think they'd lead us on like that. If there was nothing coming or even bad news, they'd just keep giving us the "Not at this time" stuff. Actually saying something would be coming at an "Upcoming Con" is actually putting a date on some kind of announcement, however extremely Vague that date may be.

They never said upcoming con. Just say said "Stay tuned for news". I'd bet on Anime Expo or Otakon though since those are the big summer cons.

So the possible cons that Funi could make their announcement would be:

A-Kon
AnimeNext (Both June 10-12)
Anime Expo (July 1-4)
Otakon (July 29-31)

I assume that since they said something like they did, the announcement would be sooner rather than later, so I'd be surprised if the announcement came after one of these cons.

My vote's still on AX. A licensing announcement for more One Piece (especially if a movie or two are announced at the same time) in my mind would be big enough news for America's biggest anime con. BTW, FUNimation has come out and said that they would not do Reborn in any capacity. They're trying to avoid long-run series like that simply because of the risk attached.

and yeh Sgt Frog ended about a month or 2 ago, 358 episodes in total.

It ended but FUNimation got it a while before it ever ended, and it still plays reruns on a timeslot in Japan so it may come back with new episodes.

And there's no dub or DVD but VIZ is gonna be streaming "Reborn" pretty soon.

Which pretty much means that if Reborn DOES get a DVD/dub license it will more than likely end up in Viz's hands, not Funimation's hands.

Connected both my 360 and PS3 to the network this weekend for the first time in months, and both online stores still don't show any hint of One Piece. Naruto and Bleach are on the first page though.
We need a massive advertising blitz like Portal 2 had. With it on bilboards and on sides of busses.

We probably don't see OP episodes in the online download stores because Funimation probably doesn't have the right licenses to do that.

And yes, OP would most certainly benefit from more advertising. Funimation's taken a step in the right direction (all dubbed episodes to celebrate the 500th episode, the whole "Dream Team" campaign with DBZ) but it's not getting the push some of Funimation's other shows are getting, but once again that might again be Toei's doing. Considering how badly fans have been chomping at the bit for Season 4 and beyond though Funimation might do an event soon.

And it's not like they don't care about the series. I think the "OMG FUNIMATION ISN'T GOING TO FINISH ONE PIECE!?" debate is finally over - we know they want more, they've told us to be patient, and it's probably just a matter of time and which con they want to make the biggest splash at. It also appears on the blog once in a while and some of the Funimation people not (as far as I know) directly involved with One Piece have been on the OPP (wasn't Adam or Rojas on the 24 hour live stream?).

Maybe they'll do more stuff when Season 4 is announced/released.

I think Funi most likely want a more mainstream audience. Having it on Funi channel is good but they want more people who haven't seen or heard of it to watch it and buy the DVDs.

"There's a con coming up soon, there must be some kind of announcement!"

"Gah, why isn't One Piece on TV?"

I mean, really, no offense, but this is seriously all I've been seeing. It's kinda sad that there really isn't much to talk about anymore…
