I wouldn't worry about Robin, Nolan has said on numerous occasions that he never wants to include Robin.
He might throw us a bone showing us a young Dick Grayson or something, but the Boy Wonder himself will never have a part. And that's fine.

I've been saying this since the movie came out and it always gets me in trouble. But Dark Knight is easily toppable, people just have a hard time imagining it since the style and direction of the movie is so different from what they expected from a Batman film. For my money, Mask of Phantasm is still the best Batman film and hits every note perfectly.
Dark Knight had tons of plot holes, gaps in logic, a love interest that I felt absolutely no chemistry with against either of the lead hero characters, an overlong third act with a dragged out boat scene, a super compressed finale on the part of two face, hard to follow action sequences, (especially the entire cellphone sonar sequence) and a villain that relied on having read the script to know where to place his next trap. And for a Batman movie, there was very little Batman.
It was a good crime/mob movie.
And it was a great Joker movie.
But it wasn't a terribly good Batman movie.
While we're on the topic.

Well, maybe now that Nolan has established Batman's position as a heroic pariah (is that you, X-Men?), we'll get some good soul-searching and more Batman fun next time.
Cause there's no villain who can outdo the Joker, Heath Ledger or otherwise. Whomever they choose for 3, Batman should be able to shine more.
And while we're at it:

I'd be down for a Knightfall-themed Batman movie. I think that could be pulled off with aplomb.
Personally I thought Begins was better than Dark Knight. Dark Knight was an ok film overhyped to death.
As for the third. If they do have the riddler then it should totally be Sean Lock.
And if nobody gets that reference you're all terrible terrible people.
I don't mind Bale's Batman voice, because it's fun to make fun of….
lol that is really true. especially the line "You don't want to hurt the boy, Harvey"
Funny that this dead thing needed confirmation with this entire funeral thing going on at the end. I mean what did you people expect? Him being alive and hidden away from the public eye? Wouldn't everybody who would have taken part in this have seen through Gordon's lie about Batman in the end? :getlost:
I don't recall seeing a casket at the "funeral", which was another reason that made me believe he'd still be alive.
And ya, I actually did think that they'd keep him alive and away from the public eye, but still be the one pulling the strings behind some crimes, just like he did in Dark Victory.
Riddler would be epic to have. Having him in the movie would push Batman to ACTUALLY be a detective lol. Plus it would set up some saw like theme stuff that would be very dark and cruel to watch. But as long as they dont make it so the riddles answers seem to be pulled out of his ass or easy as hell to figure out they should be fine. (and oh yes david should be him)
@Mr.:
I don't recall seeing a casket at the "funeral", which was another reason that made me believe he'd still be alive.
Did we actually see a casket during commisioner Loeb's funeral? No seriously, I don't remember whether there was one or not.
Since we're talking about villains, do you think Zsasz will get an expanded role (he had a cameo in Batman Begins, apparently) or should he just stay as a background character?
As much as I like the Riddler, Zsasz could easily fill the realistic villain role.
This is the cameo he made:
I can't tell, but I heard that you can spot those marks he makes into himself somewhere in the movie. Somewhere around the neck.
Talia Al Ghul makes a lot of sense, thematically. As a realistic villain, and tying into what already came before.
The Riddler fits this movie so well it's disgusting.
Is he the BEST villain?
No.
But he would be a suiting end to what the film has set up.
The city is after Batman's blood.
They want to know who he is.
Who wants to know who Batman is MORE than the freaking Riddler?
It doesn't even need to be a 'the whole city is in danger!' scenario. Batman literally saved the city from itself twice now.
This film needs to put a close on the series and it would be great if the last film was spent ousting Batman. Now it's reasonable to argue that Joker tried to do that, but that wasn't what drove Joker. It was a means to an end. Whereas Edward NEEDS to know who Batman is because, well, it's the only thing he doesn't know. Making that complex seem realistic is what would be a challenge.
And as far as 'realistic' villains.
I am ALL for it.
100%
Batman has always been my favorite superhero because he's….anyone.
He's a normal guy.
Batman's only superpower is being 'Fabulously Wealthy' so that he could travel the world to hone his completely human skills.
And seeing that reality be brought over to villains, as much as possible that is, is great!
I love stories that have one foot firmly planted in reality, and the other dipping its big toe into the tepid pool of fantastic.
Zsasz is a bit of a small fry to make for an End of the Trilogy Villain. Talia makes more sense because Nolan seems really exciting about having an ending and tying things up. The Riddler always seemed like a watered down version of the Joker, i mean the joker was all about leaving clues and riddles too just to make things more fun.
Personally i would've really loved if Nolan found a way to make Mr.Freeze realistic because he is my favorite Batman villain but i understand the difficulty of that, probably why it was the only guy he ruled out T_T
I support Bale's Batman voice cause it's the realistic thing to do. You don't want to be speaking clearly when your alter-ego is a celebrity and can be identified by voice. The hates kinda silly, people just want Batman to sound cool and not caring about what Nolan's trying to do.
Yeah, but Buuhan, you'd think he could atleast do a better voice.
Doesn't have to be all huffy and like that, just a different voice.
He sounds like a Paedophile. "GETTINNACAAAAR"
Bale's Batman voice is hilarious. Without it, we wouldn't be able to have things like this.

Agreed. Although I still think Mad Hatter would do in a pinch (if Nolan wants to use new villains).
The question is, who would PLAY the Riddler? Everyone's screaming "Johnny Depp" but there must be other candidates out there.
Jim Carrey again… without the camp.
Or Robin Williams... since he was supposed to be the original Joker way back when and the Riddler at one point.
He CAN be creepy and realistic if need be o.o
One Hour Photo showed me that

Even if Jim Carrey could do the job well this time, I still don't think they'd cast him. He already has so many people hating his last attempt, the movie takes a huge hit by giving him another shot. He would turn people off. It'd be like headlining Kanye West for… anything.

At first I advocated for him, but I don't see him as realistic enough. He mind controls people with hats. Yes, they can change it to him drugging people to influence their actions, but that kind of removes his entire theme.
If I recall in the animated series he didn't put an entire hat on people, he just stuck a card in their head.
You don't HAVE to have the mind control be through hats, there's any number of ways you can convey mind control through an Alice in Wonderland theme. Hell, you could even drug people's tea if you wanted to do a tea party.

I'm sold… when can we start filming?

I read your initial reaction a few days ago and wrote a long post on why I agreed with you until, as I went on, I realized that I didn't really agree as much as I thought I did and I deleted it all.
Mad Hatter is a fun villain.
And he could be 'realistic'.
But I think the challenge of getting someone to go 'that' far over the deep end (unless they bring back Scarecrow's drugs) AND get the ability to make Alice-inspired gear, would be asking too much.
With Joker they used a couple cheap masks and from time to time he spray-painted something. That was as far as they took it.
But for MH to work, they'd have to make a man that has a significant amount of time and funds to create Alice-themed traps or costumes.
Plus, without a love interest, I dunno if it works. You'd have to have an 'Alice' and I don't think they could establish it.
Also, I think the Alice path might be a little too jarring from the audience's perspective. "What movie are we watching now?", kind of thing.
The idea hit me as awesome, then neat and then pretty un-doable. With the Riddler he doesn't even need to have question marks covering him to be The Riddler, just a logical guy that wants to know who the hell Batman is. It just seems to make sense.
Again, not my idea of the best final villain, but from a story perspective, seems to fit.
Anyway, long story short, would love to see MH but logistically, I can't see them doing it.

And at least one green article of clothing.

It was perfect in Begins, there were parts in Dark Knight where it was overdone and a lot of the hate comes from there (although there are the people that hate Begin's voice and wish Michael Keaton was still Batman so…).
A part of me wants the following included:
-Askham Asylum up and running.
-A massive cell given to the Joker. We never see or hear the Joker, but everyone looks at the cell as if it held the worst of the worst.
-A young blonde psychiatrist walking into the cell with the name tag, "Dr. Quinzel".
If the above happens, I would seriously shit myself.
I still think the next one should set up Arkham and have Black Mask be the villain.
It would be perfect…
If Nolan is against Robin then he HAS to be against Harley, yet everyone keeps mentioning her.
We're all looking for clever cameos but…what's the point.
It's not like BB or DK were riddled with shoutouts to fans. The lack of them is actually refreshing.
With each passing Marvel movie I keep waiting for the action to stop and Ed Norton or Robert Downey to stare into the camera and give us a big fat wink.
Zsasz is a bit of a small fry to make for an End of the Trilogy Villain.
I should've clarified: when I say expanded role, I didn't mean the same thing as a star role.
Riddler or Miss Al 'Ghul are definitely better choices, it just seems a shame not to exploit a psychopath like Zsasz, especially seeing how his presence is canon.
Then again, he probably would end up looking like 'Heath Ledger Zero Calorie.'
If Nolan is against Robin then he HAS to be against Harley, yet everyone keeps mentioning her.
How? Harley is SIGNIFICANTLY different than Robin. Adding Harley is adding another obstacle with a fantastic personality.
But I was just saying a cameo. Her walking to speak with Mr. J, before she went nutso.

If this is the shtick we're doing now:
A botany book written by Dr. Pamela Isley.
A off-shown TV news report on a new revolutionary brain CT scan device developed by Jervis Tetch?
…A random show on TV starring Adam West as a detective?
A Television interview with Mary Dahl.
What.
I was talking Batman with a friend and he mentioned a love interest named Vicki Vale (I believe that was the name at least) that he thinks would be good to use in the movie now that Rachel is gone. Now, I cannot think of who Vicki Vale is. The name sounds really familiar but I can't remember anything of the character.
I've got a post I want to write later but Vicki Vale is a reporter and I believe she was the love interest in the 89' movie so…

Honestly, I think (and hope) we'll see Talia Al Ghul before we see any other love Interest.
With her father having been in the first movie, I think she's prime to be in this franchise at one point.
Alright, I've updated the first post with some articles.
Filming is set to start in March 2011, and as a side bit of info, an animated version of Batman: Year One will be released September 27, 2011.
Expect a lot more rumors to be creeping up now with a production schedule out.
Nolan also stated that he will not bring back the Joker, and that Mr. Freeze (which we already knew) and the Penguin will not be appearing the the new movie.
That statement is part of an interview he did for Empire Magazine, and Empire does not have the interview online, however, this article is reliable.
He also dismisses the idea of a crossover between Batman and Superman.
That's all the news for now.
He also dismisses the idea of a crossover between Batman and Superman.
Even though I agree that it wouldn't be fitting for Batman 3, I'd love to see Superman get a beatdown by Bats on film. Seeing him do it in The Dark Knight Returns and Hush was pretty refreshing.
Makes me lul whenever some of my friends bring up the topic of "Batman vs. Ironman".
They don't even have a decent enough superman to make a "World's Finest" or "Superman/Batman" crossover feasible anyway.
The only way Talia will turn up is if Ra's returns, and I don't see Nolan wanting to delve into Lazarus pits.
Hmm, It was really the saddest thing ever that Heath Ledger passed, and not to sound disrespectful, but The Joker's such a great character, I'd like to see him in the
future, even if it does mean recasting? :( Perhaps they could try and find someone who resembles Heath a lot, and he could research the character etc, and find out how to play The Joker.
Or would you guys prefer a New Actor to play the Joker entirely differently ?
I don't really care. It's only Nolan's batman films that won't have another Joker in, so it's not as if it's done and done.
Mark Hamill is the definitive Joker for me anyway.
I figured they could've done a Joker-Copycat killer, but I guess it's out of the question.
Harley will be awesome if they make her a character. Imagine her as gritty as Heath's Joker?
Mark Hamill is the definitive Joker for me anyway.
Hellz yeah!
I had no idea he was doing the Joker in the Arkham Asylum game, and when I heard him I freaked out!
By the way, Hamill has declared that the Arkham Asylum 2 game will be his last time voicing the Joker…
Wasn't the whole point of The Dark Knight to go ahead and make Batman the new villain?
I'd love to see him being confronted with the full force of Gotham's justice system and possibly Super Heroes, while eventually obtaining Robin as an ally in the process of redeeming himself! Not saying there woudn't be any need for another good villain tho, but the focus should be set elsewhere…
Was there supposed to be a new Batman actor? I have it in the back of my head that the contract with Christian Bale went dry...
http://movies.ign.com/articles/110/1102388p1.html
Granted this isn't confrming the villain is even in the film but whaddya think?
I'm a bit wary of someone actually campaigning for the role. That seems to be that he has an idea for it and I think its best just to go in with a fresh start.
As far as his age is concerned I don't think that's an issue with the Riddler although I would like to see him lose a helluva lotta weight for it. His eternally pudgy features have never been menacing, even in Insomnia.
