Yes, overrated. He failed pretty badly there. His goal was to safe Ace, and Ace died. As did lots of others who came there with him. Not exactly what I'd call a successful rescue attempt.

Wait what? Did you know that the execution was meant as a trap to lure WB out and he took the risk and gave a damn epic fight. The war was destructive for both sides, the marines and the pirates. It was indeed his goal to save Ace, but you know that Sengoku isn't called strategist for nothing.

WB never failed. Ace failed. He screwed up everything by allowing himself to get riled up by Akainu.
Whitebeard held back his true power the entire war. If he didn't have Ace to save, he woulda wiped Marine HQ off teh face of the earth with a single attack. 100,000 Marines wiped out in an instant.WB, the man who lost half his face, was stabbed and slashed 100s of times, shot by 100s of bullets and cannons, was on the verge of dying, and yet he was still strong enuff to completly own Blackbeard like the little whining bitch he is.
He survived having half his face melted off by Akainu…which by all rights he should have died from.
WB is a whole new level of epicness and awesome. He needs a new word to describe how awesome he is.

It was never really about the other commanders…It was really only about the WB Pirates top brass...Marco, Joz & Vista. Marco was disapointing...until perhaps the end when he protected Luffy from Akainu..and when he started showing some leadership qualities...

I'm torn about voting Whitebeard.
In one hand, I want him to win, and I'll vote him in every and each round (except if he battles the kung fu dugongs). On the other hand I don't want to vote the lead character in the polls, I made an exception for Enel because of the hilarious campaings.
The epic campaings aren't swaying me.. I loved (was it tigerlilly's?) last year camaign of almost every character with the epicstache.

I do know it was a trap, cleverly thought up by Sengoku, but that doesn't mean WB fails any less. Failing is not succeeding in doing what you tried to do. WB tried to save Ace and make him the Pirate King. Ace died, so WB failed.

WB failed. He didn't save Ace, even though that may have been Ace's fault.
And he could probably destroy whole Marineford. But I don't see how that relates to his failure.And he endured a lot, is powerful, but he still died in the end and BB won. So he didn't really own BB.
So he survived something practically impossible to survive. So did Luffy (Magellan's poison) and quite some other characters. Don't see immense praise for them.
And that last comment is quite subjective.
