Just a reminder to everyone that for Europe, America, and Australia the 3 legendary dogs that were just given out at Gamestop in America are going be given out over Nintendo Wi-Fi in D/P/Pt/HG/SS, starting today with Raikou. Raikou is available until the 13th, Entei is available from the 14th til the 20th, and Suicune will be given from the 21st to the 27th. Using any 1 or the 3 special Pokemon by transfering them with the tranfer machine, you can fight and capture Zoroark in Black and White.

Oh shit hell yeah.

Just a tiny whiny post, why the fuck did they change Shell Blade to Razor Blade and Nitro Charge to Flame Charge and even Boiling Water to Scald urgh…the names were much better and made a lot more sense in the original japanese, they take the trouble to give the attacks an english name already, just for it to be translated anyway, they should just stick with japanese names so their kids dont have to wonder what the fuck Nitro Charge means.
I do like Evil Eye being Hex now its cool(even though its a giant purple eye but its an hexing so it makes sense) and Bursting Flame being Flame Burst.
I saw in an article that the team that translated this game isn't the same as before, they changed the company or wtv, they are probably the ones responsible for Unova, Unfeazents, etc, the preview team always kept the region names.
Shell Blade is the only one that really annoys me. Though Nitro Charge sounded a lot cooler. Scald, eh.

So…basically I went out and made the trip to Gamestop 3 times for nothing.
..............well fuck.

Got Raikou.
It is so very smexy.
-
…it would have been nice if they'd announced the dogs would be on regular wi-fi a month ago.
Guess that would have cut into Gamestop's shameless promotion.
Just a tiny whiny post, why the fuck did they change Shell Blade to Razor Blade
Razor Shell is the new name, actually.
And considering it never really turns into a sword or anything…
-
I'm seriously pissed that they are doing this.
-
@Zoro's:
I'm seriously pissed that they are doing this.
Doing what? Changing names or giving out the dogs at other spots?
-
Giving the dogs at other spots. I made an effort to go to Gamestop every week or so.
The new names are bearable, and I'll get used to them eventually.

Well I sure am glad that they are, otherwise I would never have gotten a chance to get them. The only way for me to get event things is through wifi since Iceland has no place that makes deals on these things.
And I didn't know that they'd be shinies!
That Raikou is my first shiny!
And what a fun moveset! Yay! -
Zap Cannon sucks though :C
-
This Raikou is my first shiny since the red Gyarados in the original G/S/Cs..
-
Giveaway shinies don't feel right. There's nothing special to them. They're common and abundant and they lose all feeling of pride and joy at having caught them. Especially when you know there's thousands (millions?) of others who'll have the exact same thing.
Now, a shiny badoof? THAT'S something to be excited about.
(My only legit shiny to date is a Misdrevious. Critter I totally didn't care about before, but see the awesomeness of now.)
-
Ah I remember back in gold seeing that little pond in the day care center and wondering if you could fish there. Caught myself a shiny krabby.
-
I could remember my most recent shiny… It hatched from an Egg a friend gave me. Buldum.
Still, I don't find shineys all that special. The Pokemon center in NY were giving away shiny legends daily for free at one time.
-
I have found four random shinies in my lifetime.
A Psyduck in Sapphire, while exploring the Safari Zone. And I caught it. I was so happy because, you know how those safari zone encounters can be.
A Wobbufett in Sapphire, while exploring the Safari Zone. It fled. Thus, I was pissed.
A Starly in Platinum. She soon became a team member.
A Pidgey in HeartGold. Traded it for a shiny Geodude.
-
You, know at one point was was hunting shineys… Till I watched this.
-AlhaJF5Afw
Skip a little bit in and you'll see why.
-
If I'm lucky, I'll usually catch one shiny per game. Over the course of Ruby/Sapphire to HG/SS, I've caught a shiny Exeggcute, Fearow, Golbat and maybe one or two others.
-
I've caught a Shiny Shuppet (which I appreciate a little more after seeing Movie 13 this weekend)in Pearl and a Shiny Geodude in SoulSilver.
I just preordered White version. I figured I wanted Wargle and the psychic green blob thing. White Forrest seemed to get more mileage out of me than Black city, and I wanted to fight Iris.
-
I've never encountered a shiny Pokemon in the wild . I currently have 5 shiny Pokemon though(2 Pikachu colored Pichu, a Shiny event Raikou, and 2 Red Gyarados from Lake of Rage) but they obviously don't count.
-
I'm buying both versions like I always do.
Gotta support my favorite franchise, even if it leaves me starving.

Don't get it…Why?
-
@Sniper:
Don't get it…Why?
He spent 6 months and hundreds of thousands of encounters going back and forth in the same spot on three gameboys for a shiny ponyta.
Way too much effort.
Sure, ODDS say it should go better than that, but in actual practice it can take much, much, much longer.
-
But now with the Pokeradar your chances of finding a shiny are multiplied by 41!

Whoa…
Poketch...Pokewalker....Pokeradar...
I'm way behind! -
Just finished paying off my preorder for both Black and White for me and my bro. Cant wait for it, specially since i have avoided as many spoilers as possible by not reading this thread. Wanna jump in all new just like blue and red.

Only if you can keep a chain going up to a count of like 50. And since all the swishing grasses look pretty much the same, and things can still interupt even if you're doing it right and have repel in action, it's ridiculously hard to do.
Obviously some people have it down to a science because they're able to get tons of shinies, but I've never done a streak greater than 10.
And again, that takes some of the magic out of it. Might as well just do the RNG code hack if you're going to go about it that way.
They should just make the damn things MORE COMMON. They can leave in the uber rare 1 in 8000s if they really insist, but come on. A 1 in 200 wouldn't kill them. (Or have it be from an actual encounter count, instead of statistical. KNOW that your 8000th critter will be shiny, instead of just being a chance. That's still hours and hours of gameplay, but it can be counted on. And it'd still be a trick getting a thing with natures and abilities.
But when you only naturally see 1 shiny in 350 hours of cumulative game time between three games… that's TOO rare. What's the point?

I totally agree.

Wait what? How do we do that!! :O So your saying that I could get the dogs without annoyingly chasing them around?

also, a lot of shinies just suck balls.
what's that, exeggcutor? you don't like being piss yellow with pink hair? too bad. You think puke green is a horrible color, fearow? sorry. Treeko, you think your color scheme is a crime against humanity? tough luck.
or they're lazy. Shiny scyther? darker green. Shiny garchomp? same damn thing.
there are some that are badass, like charizard, ninetails, and gardevoir, but mostly they just inverted the colors and called it a day.

And this is why I never bothered with the shinies. If I do happen to see one and catch it, cool. But if not, oh well.
And you know what, it's not just the shinies either. Some of the encounter and catch rates for certain pokemon are pretty ridiculous. It's pretty silly that you have to run around an area for half an hour just to encounter a pokemon that has a 2% chance of appearing (particularly in the Safari Zone since they can run away).
As for the catch rates, it's bad enough they put so many legendaries in the games now, but do they all have to be so damn difficult to capture?! I mean, even when you do everything you should (put them to sleep, bring them down to 1HP, etc.) you can still go through 30 Ultra Balls or more!
I mean, I get that these guys are supposed to be difficult to capture, but there's gotta be a better way.
-
Master Ball(s).
-
Meh people still have problem catching pokemons after Quick Ball and Dusk Ball were introduced? damn, plus like Saurus said, save the master balls for the running legendaries thats what I do, still I caugh my legendary dogs in quick balls for example, shit ez, Ulta balls arent the way to go nowadays, the capture rate is the same as Mewtwo back then so nothing changed.
The shinies yeah, I dont chase them either but I chained 3/4, got a fried who chains too and gave me spare ones, abused the bingo, to get 3 boxes full of abras on Fire red and after some resets I got one haha, also soft reseted for the Beldum in Ruby 120 resets I was prettty lucky because I dont have patience, 126(I think) is not that much compared to people who do 50ks resets and I was about to quit.
I also have an hatched shiny Charizard, that I took time to hatch because its my favourite shiny along with Metagross and I have a shiny Milotic from the world championships I believe that I got in a trade.
Anyway today its not hard to get shinies, people even trade you their leftovers, there are people that chain and get 10 of each for example, I never got a random encounter shinie though and I had everygame but Silver/Red/Emerald/Saphire, so Blue/Yellow/Gold/Crystal/Ruby/Firered/Pearl/Diamond/Platinum/Soul Silver/HG, so yeah Im fucking unlucky I even evtrain and always complete the dexes, so I am on the grass a lot of time, the encounter rate sucks indeed but its supposed to be rare, they gave us alternative methods so if you got some patience you get some shinies, in sum shinies are pretty common nowadays.
-
Got a shiny Bibarel in Diamond. Only shiny I ever caught.
-
I had a shiny magikarp, he was awesome since he also knew hyper beam.
-
I got so excited when I caught a blue Gastrodon in Diamond. Then my brother told me it wasn't a shiny..
On the bright side it made this Awkward Zombie comic funnier for me.
-
this generation has some of the weird pokemon. An Icecream cone pokemon ….Seriously. The you got a fight type with two beams looking like an old man on steroids
-
Got a shiny Bibarel in Diamond. Only shiny I ever caught.
I found a shiny Bibarel in Diamond too, and also found a shiny Cancea in Ruby
-
I think the only shinies I've ever seen apart from the red Gyarados was a Swinub from Gold and a Bronzor in Diamond.
-
I know one of my friends got a copy of Platninum, her first pokemon game ever, and two hours into it she got a shiny bidoof.
Sure, its a bidoof, but its also a shiny after only two hours.
-
I have a shiny Lopunny, so that is all I ever needed. I mean damn, it's pink!
-
Have two shinies.
First was a dunsparce and the other is a muk.
Seen a shiny beautifly in the bug catching contest but OHKO'd it with my Cacturne : (
Not only would that have won me the contest but got me another shiny so I was double annoyed.
-
I had a shiny Donphan in Sapphire.
We were bros until I sent him to XD and restarted the game.
-
Shinies?
I had a shiny swablu on Sapphire but it disappeared ; A ; I swear. -
@RobbyBevard:
…it would have been nice if they'd announced the dogs would be on regular wi-fi a month ago.
To be fair, it was announced almost a month ago, at least Serebii reported it on the 11th day of January. I guess it was meant to be an European event, so they didn't announce it in the US. But since the Wi-fi events aren't region locked, the dogs are available in other continents as well.
Anyway, about the shinies. The only random shinies I've seen are Drowzee (pink) and Rhyhorn (light brown) in my Silver. I caught them both, but the internal battery died a long time ago so I no longer have them. But I do have a yellow Shinx in my Diamond, because I learned how to use the Pokeradar. :D I got the chain up to 35 or so before the shiny patch appeared, so I guess I was pretty lucky. I haven't gotten any since then, though.

Lucky, shiny Luxray looks so cool.
-
Aside from the obvious event shinies I've gotten (shiny legendary dogs, pikachu-colored pichu) and red gyrados I have a few other shinies.
I have a pink Crobat and a pale green Carnevine. I used to have a shiny Bellosom on my first file of Sapphire, but I don't know what ever happened to it.
-
When I had G&S I didn't got any shinny, but I once cloned a shinny meowht.
Recently in a less legal way to play I got a Shinny Tentacruel.

Website updated with a whole bunch of new names and other stuff:

Shiny talk~
The first shiny I got was a Venomoth in the Safari Zone in LeafGreen. That was pretty nerve-wracking.
I found a Pidgey which I don't think I ever evolved past Pidgeotto because shiny Pidgeot looked ugly. I believe that was in FireRed.
found a shiny Haunter (which was immediately traded and evolved into Gengar) and Unown (X)… Both from Pearl I think.
Someone gave me a shiny Gloom it seems.
Ah, and a shiny Rattata in SoulSilver....My favorite shiny in B/W is incidentally one of my favorites from the new Pokemon, Ferrothorn.
