I personally hope for a new anime after these three movies,
If the movies take anywhere near as long as non-shonen anime movies tend to take… it'll be a few years before we're through them anyway.

That's ok, I'm used to waiting - I read Bastard and HxH. The new VA's are decent if you ask me, but the CGI looks very bad in certain scenes. I hope the finished product will be satisfying.
Guts is going through hell…wonder what he's gonna look like when this battle is over. He's having trouble with his sight and hearing and he had loss of taste as said by SK before. He will need the king of Elfhelm more than anyone.
Are there any good websites to read Berserk? I read it before on a site and I can't remember the name of it, been re-reading it and mangareader skips stuff and the shit that is thespectrum.net keeps on timing out.

I use this two sites(for download),the first one is having problems for awhile now.
But is hard find good one for reading purposes only.

Bakabt has a nice torrent.
Thanks, both of you
Homepage for theblackswordsman may be dead but the forum is active. Much like the AP. And oh my god. 312 came out on the 10th of May last year… 13 chapters in one an a half years- A bit less than a volume a year acutally.

That's pretty consistent with this series. They usually have a new volume coming out this time a year in Japan, and if you look at the release schedule it averages to about one a year at the end of the year. Not bad at all really when compared to other series like High School of the Dead and their random-ass releases
Started rereading berserk again and I gotta say, it is one of the best out there. The Griffth and Gutts/Gatts rivalry is probably the best manga rivalry out there. You'd be sore put to find one better. And the characters and emotions are top notch. I thought one piece characters were good but I love berserk characters better. They're easier to relate to.
http://www.berserkfilm.com/about/cast.html comments from va's not sure what they say. might be a few new pics. I see Gaston and a few others.

Those look beautiful
Offical release date is Feb. 4th. Would be incredible if it came to some theatres in the U.S.
damn these look good. So feb 4th? So how long does a anime movie normally take for the dvds to come out?

Considering this is being done by Warner Bros. it just might be. Other anime movies like the Miyazaki films done by big companies have made it over here because of that. We'll just have to see.
Also, very awesome. Hoping a DVD release comes out and subbed not too long after that
Rereading Berserk since a while now. It's still the best I've read so far. Have to say though that the Golden Age arc, obviously, is much better than the following Pixies and Trolls and other weird stuff… It just lacks depth. Nearly at the Kushan Empire Invasion/Griffith's (re)rise to power though, which I'm very much looking forward to - I loved that part in my first read. There is something deviant and beautiful about the conflict of these two supernatural monstrous powers that fascinates me.

Kinda prefer the older version(of course this just picture so hard to compare).
So a new full length trailer for the movie just came out complete with what i believe is some susumu hirosawa awesomeness, voices and a whole lot o CG.
The scenes with the characters interacting looks great, but the action scenes make me think I'm watching cutscenes from a video game. Still, I'm definitely looking forward to this.
Awesome, Like Guts voice but Griffith's voice doesn't really fit :/
yes the fights seem off,the rest is beautiful.
I Really think the 3D makes it looks cheap and unwatchable, but I get it, they don't have studio ghibli money or time.
I'll just post this here. I put this on mangahelpers originally.
Also the quality at this link is better.
There's a longer trailer out now:
http://ch.yahoo.co.jp/warnerbros/index.php?itemid=217It's awesome. So I'll translate it.
Screen: Over 30 million comic books sold worldwide.
The dark fantasy masterpiece that captivated the world
<the saga="" project="" gets="" underway="">The movie adaptation of the entire series
The man who only believed in the sword
Griffith: I am Griffith. Your name?
Guts: Guts.
Screen: met with the hawk that sought the heavens.
Caska: You abandon your allies to go right up against the enemy?
Griffith: Won't you come with me?
Screen: The fated two meet.
Griffith: I will obtain my own kingdom.
The pulse of fate begin to beat.
Griffith: I'll decide where you die.
Caska: What do you think you're doing?
You act on your own and you could expose the Band of the Hawk to danger!
You haven't changed at all.
You're happy as long as you get to wave your sword around the battlefield!
Guts: You're wrong!
I'm not who I used to be.
Screen: They decided to fight together with their comrades.
Zodd: Death will visit you.
Absolutely unavoidable death!
Screen: No one can sever our bonds.
Griffith: You will fight for my sake.
Because… you belong to me.
Gackt: On the path to the deepening of those bonds
the footprints of destruction grow closer.
Screen: Among the killing, there was "youth".</the>
Yeah I really hate this 3D too.
Yeah the 3D is pretty cheap looking… but the rest looks great so I'm gonna check this out.
Part 1? So Golden Age is gonna take two movies? Eh, fine. Golden Age was the best arc of Berserk in terms of actual writing quality. The rest of the series is still good, but if it weren't for that part to develop everything it wouldn't be nearly as compelling. So let them take their time with it. It was about 10 volumes anyway.
One movie covering it would have been incredibly unsatisfying. I'm way glad they went this route, it's only sensible.
Actually I think they're doing three parts on the golden age
Considering the tv series (not counting first episode) was 8 hours long and that was still cutting a couple volumes of material…. (tho yes, it had some filler) and was fairly reasonably paced... yeah. The movies need to be multiple movies to do it any sort of justice at all. Otherwise it'd just be the Escaflowne movie.
Even if each movie is 2 and a half hours long for 3 movies, its still going to be tight in terms of showing everything. Accept in advance there's going to be cuts and stuff left out, and it'll go easier when the time comes. And that's just the Golden Age which has a nice definitive start and end point.
Everything after that?
(On the upside?, it'll probably take years and years for them to get through the movies, and the manga will keep getting closer to its ending while it goes.)
I'm thinking…
Movie One: Volumes 4,5,6: ending on griffith speech to princess at the party or something
Movie Two: rest of 6, 7, 8, 9: ending with gutts and casca getting it on
Movie Three: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14's rest of golden age
This is assuming their skipping the Black Swordsman arc (or adding it on to the ova's before the fairy demon girl story?)
As cool as this will be, it's the OVA's of the after golden age stuff that will be the real treasure. Never animated as they are.

Yeah I can't wait for the stuff after the GA. A lot from what I've seen people say the Golden Age is the best but for me I've loved everything after the Golden Age. Also I hope they fit in the black swordsman arc at that point…would only make sense.

And new phone background is set…
The 3D didn't look very bad to me since that's what I'd normally expect in scenes on a huge battlefield filled with fodder soldiers. It's what I'd expect from modern day animation.
Either way, the whole thing looks fantastic with much better justice than the original anime series.
Very, very much looking forward to this. Especially in retrospective when all (hopefully 3) parts are released and it's safe that OVAs will be made to cover the rest of the story.. That'd be great.
I'm just worried about changes, hopefully they don't skip Guts childhood…we haven't seen anything of it so far. Inconsistencies like wrong swords or adding things that weren't there...I'm a bit wary but the animation was never going to be on the level of the manga. Only in a perfect world.
So it's a shame that the chapters take a felt year to come out… because there is so much stuff that has not been explained yet, and so many things that can happen. I just hope they'll reach Puck's homeland soon, rereading everything so far makes me realise two things: One, it is quite likely Caska will regain her sanity through the help of the Elven King. Two, Griffith will probably send Apostles to kill him, or even come himself.
At least, that's a probable direction the story can take from where we are... seeing how the Skull Knight explains how the Hawk tries to eradicate potential threats, which are only individual skilled magic users - the Elven King is definitely one of those. However long it will take to get there - but the next arc will hopefully get really, really interesting.
So it's a shame that the chapters take a felt year to come out…
Wait till you've been following the series for 13 years.
You get used to it.
Good Lord. D: it's so… so beautiful.
@RobbyBevard:

That's committed. It's only about 2 years for me now. Thing is that I don't like the current arc as much because it just hasn't much of a deeper connection to the rest of the "big" plot… Although that makes me not mind the wait as much, it makes the progression seem dull even when it's there. May just be me though. =)
That's committed.
Wasn't really by choice. I was exposed to the series at an anime con before it was even released stateside, and when anime and manga were still a new and wonderous thing to me. I saw random episodes in 1998, saw the whole series in 99. Got a bootleg tape of the anime, loved it, had to know what happened next, and started buying the manga. In Japanese. (Since it wouldn't get a domestic translated release until 2003, and scanlations weren't really a thing yet…)
At the time the Golden Age flashback was still the majority of the series, the manga was only on volume 20 at the time and well, there was no way of knowing it was going to go this long. Or sporadically.
And I've just picked up the most recent volumes every year at cons since. I was really heavily into the series at one point. Loved the shit out of it, would just stare at the manga pages and follow the story from pure visuals alone. (Though some more complicated things like the nuances of Griffith's rebirth, and actual character names were obviously impossible to follow raw. For the longest time I knew Serpico as "that fast sword guy!")
Now... its just a series thats there, has been for a decade. I check when the new chapters come out, but I don't look forward to it or thrill or anticipate them at all. Berserk is just one of those things in life.
You sound like a husband talking about his wife and their long lasting marriage Bevard. XD
Man, I sure am glad there are other people out there who like the original anime.
I personally LOVE it.
I mean, for starters, it covered the best part of the manga, and it did it with a lot of talent.
Since they knew from the start (I think…), that they were gonna stop where they stopped, they got rid of a lot of things that are irrelevant if the adaptation doesn't go beyond the eclipse, only keeping what really mattered in the Golden Age arc. And that's what I really like about the original anime: it understood exactly what made that arc so good, and they completely focused on it, and did a great job portraying it.
I also like how it got rid of some of Miura's excesses, and did some things with more subtelty.
From a technical point of view, I tought it was brilliant too. First of all: the soundtrack! I don't think there's any need to describe Susumu Hirasawa's work. It speaks for itself.
Artwise too, I tought the "old" look and colours used gave the show a certain identity and feel, maybe should I call it atmosphere, that worked wonders with the story and setting. And the character design was sweet. I personally think the anime's Griffith looks a lot better than manga Griffith back then.
Sure the animation could be improved, but eh, can't have them all. It was directed well enough.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I can be quite passionate about things I like.
Still, about the new anime, I'm trying to stay away as much as possible from trailers and spoilers to enjoy the finished product as much as possible. That being said, those screenshots in an earlier page look really sweet! 3D/CG kinda scares me though...
Just got done watching the minute and fifty seconds trailer. Only for a second did the 3D look off to me, other than that this looks fucking awesome. But like Zephos said the real gems will be seeing past volume 12 or 13 (I know the eclipse ends here somewhere) animated.
And this is one of the reasons why Berserk is one of the greatest manga out there.
!

Yeah like cramming Gutts's past into a brief flashback and adding not one but two filler episodes based around fucking Adon.
The original anime is extremely mediocre on every count but the soundtrack.
Though I guess they did animate the Eclipse pretty well considering.

The colors suck a huge dick, from a technical point especially. There's so much muddy crap, plus strange things like making Lord Gennon pink or whatever the heck.
I liked both the the visuals and soundtrack of the old anime.
Big fan old anime also, liked colors, the sound and art overall, the feeling of "old" fits it well.
A question, when is next chapter coming out?
I too consider anime from 1998 to be old.
i refer to it as the old anime
because it's not the newer one
i love painted cels though
