this reminds me of how dragonball transitioned to dragonball z. and how naruto transitioned to shippuden. it lost its comedy and became mainly action. I hope oda doesnt go that route. and my prediction of the next chapter is that luffy will unconciously go haki apeshit crazy and kill akainu only to wake up days later and be explained about the events that happen while he blacked out.

And why so much hate towards Gold D. Roger? Most of the pirates respected him, even WB. And Rayleigh doesn't seem like someone who would follow a bloodthristy killer. And even more, Roger was researching the ancient weapons to keep them out of the Gobermment hands (he did not use them as far as we now).
This is the mayor flaw I see in Ace character, he only hated his father because he died before him and because the villagers were badmouthing him? That's a bit dull.

Nope, but I never build enough belief in Naruto that I did with One Piece.
Oda is a human-god, so there are a few mistakes in the story, some arcs migth feel long/bad/wrong/else at times (but rarely). Still, One Piece is and will be the only manga in which I have a full faith in (I almost got tricked back on DN days ^__^).
Ace is done for. I hope after the burial we'll learn more about "DF recycling". Funny theories had been a little low these past weeks with the war.

Never thougth about it before … since DF theories will be very very rich, and we can't start before VegaPunk introduction (according to Oda's SBS).
But if Ace is (even partially) back somehow due to VP findings about DF, it'll work for me since I trust Oda to carefully introduce it. Nowadays it's not even possible to dream about that

Ace wanted to kill Whitebeard, didn't he? Perhaps he hated pirates too, and only became one to track him down. He changed his mind in the end, and fully became a pirate under WB. So I don't understand why he still hates Roger if that's the only reason.

honestly im not cool with ace beeing dead. i expected oda to kill off whitebeard. i was prepared to watch him dying. and now its ace who is dead.

I don't know what to make of Luffy's face on the last panel. It almost looks comical to me. But wow, Ace's death comes kinda out of nowhere since last chapter was the end of the long chain of events aiming to free him. But I guess that's quality storytelling, the ability to fool your readers.

The chances of ace comming back as gold d ace is really slim because Aces dream has pretty much been completed whihc was to see if he should have been born and he got the answer to it when he saw everyone fighting to save him. -

Blargh, reading Aohige's translation really does make it seem like he'll come back as Gol D. Ace with the last part of the chapter being his mom naming him. I hope not and still lean to him being dead for good, but that doubt will still gnaw slowly away at my brain for a while.
Edit- It would be a bit funny if Akainu was just trying to build up his retirement, by collecting bounties during this war.

The WB crew will disband after the death of their captain and second division commander. The individual captains and their crews will either join up with the other Yonkous (like Marco joining up with Shanks…he did invite him once after all) or will try to take WBs place and fail.
