Chapter 573 "The Name of this Era is 'Whitebeard'" Discussion
-
-
Lemme just say that these events really set the stage for what could be a very interesting 574. If not, then…
Ace slumping to the ground + flashbacks + AAAAAAAAAACCCCCEEEEEEE + SECOND GEAR = 575 WILL BE EPIC.
-
Nah, Ace will die and Luffy will sarch for the Dragon Balls to resurect him.
-
I've never watch it (and never intend to…) but the commercials about it are surely crap :)
Well it was a joke… To be honest... I hate german tv and serieses... dunno why but there isn't one german production I like
-
-
No next chapter WB, Luffy and crew facepalm and sail off without Ace…
-
I really hope for next week… Maybe I'll get a suprise and Ace will stand his man for one time alone and saves himself... but I see HAKI-MODE Luffy which would be annoying that his little brother is doing haki in rage all the time but a rage Ace does nothing.
Why does he need to? Ace has spent most of his adult life protecting and standing up for others (and their names), even when it's not necessary and it puts him in danger. It's not smart but its honourable and he's valued by the WB Pirates because he's kind to people and puts others first, not because he's the most amazing fighter in the history of ever-ness. Why would someone like Ace display incredibly strong offensive ambition when his only desire at this point seems to be to support/defend/protect?
Character flaws = good things, as they make for rounded characters and give them room to grow.
Also, isn't Whitebeard just as 'stupid' as Ace for letting him go after BB in the first place, regardless of pride? Shanks thought so.
There's also a hell of a double standard when it comes to Ace, since Robin only stood up for herself towards the end of Enies Lobby and she didn't catch hell for it. Likewise, Nami broke down in Arlong and begged for help, but that was 'moving'. And then there's Vivi -shudders-.
Still, Akainu is pretty badass, though I'm not as entertained by him as I am Kizaru, or as interested in him as I am Aokiji yet, but we've seen more of them. Aside from power, I'd like to see something separate Akainu from Lucci.
-
akanius magma is stronger than aces fire while so kizarus light is stronger than enels lightning and aokiji would be stronger than a water logia the admirals has the ultimate elementl logias

Well but the second time he brought trouble to the persons he cares. And like I said… Luffy is defending a lot too but ne never gives up and stands his man... Ace was owned, way whiny, get freed, became cooky, was owned once again. he can't be saed all the time for his failures... For once he should show, why WB has so much trust in him and why the merines fear him that much. Luffy shows why he is feared... He never gives up, brings trouble and have king haki...
-
Dude, I'm just saying Ao Kiji is responsible for some of the things the marines have done, and he needs to be held responsible.
And im saying that he's really got nothing to be held accountable for, the archeologists who remaind on Ohara and Saul are both opponents who willingly choose their own fate.
Being part of a system doesn't absolve him, especially when unlike the common solider Ao kiji has the experience and ability to see the big picture.
Seeing the big picture may be exactly why he does what he does.
Have you ever seen that one scrubs episode where Cox tries to impress his mentor by winning all these small little battles on the expense of pissing of Kelso and halting his own career? All the while his mentor notes that he's an idiot for not realizing that had he just played ball a little, he with all his talent could have gotten into a position where he could actualy make a diffrence instead of playing around as the hero of the little people and stroking his ego.
Now my personal theory is that Aokiji is in fact playing ball and is working toward becoming the next fleet admiral.

So physical power is the only thing that matters to you in terms of characterisation? Maybe you should be reading a different shonen.
Ace is weaker than Luffy and lacks the same resolve but that doesn't make him a bad character. One of the things I like about Ace is that he knows he's not worth it. His conversation with Garp in Impel Down showed he knows he's a pawn and the thing is, he was born that way. The Marines fear him because he is powerful enough to kill many of them (though not the high/top-tier, naturally) but mostly because of his bloodline. Ace knows that, hates it and until now, hasn't been able to step beyond that. It's a big character flaw (and a great subversion of a big shonen trope), which makes him interesting to me.
Hopefully he'll grow beyond it and maybe recover his own dreams but I still don't see why he's catching hell for saving his brother right now. You think if Ace and Luffy had tried to run, Akainu would have just let 'em go? When Akainu takes aim for Luffy, Ace does the same thing Zoro did on Thriller Bark, the same thing Bon-chan did in Impel Down, and takes the attack to save Luffy.
Does Luffy display his awesome haki and K'O everyone this chapter? No. Does Luffy affect Akainu? No. He'll probably do something massive next time, but this chapter its him being saved by Ace and it's weird that people are having a go at Ace for it.

He is potrayed as stronger since Arabasta and even before his DF and even now Luffy said some day I'll be stonger than you Ace!
But I agree with you that Ace will grow next chapter and finally will fight behind his limit like Luffy it did.
And Luffy haki thing… if Luffy make a save next week be sure it will involve haki as well... but for me it is enough of Luffy and I want Ace one time not to give up and comes back stronger (fighting and character wise) and show why people are putting so much into him (like WB)
And like I said Luffy's willpower finally comes out in for of haki... And Ace who is aware of it and probably, as son of a D and pirate king, has to have it too... even in rage can't show it.
Like I said... Rescuein is one thing but fighting for an insult and putting once again everyone into danger and has to be saved once again isn't noble or a good character...
If he saves himself this time... it would be another matter... Something like
"Luffy! Stay back!!! This time I will save you and all the others for the sake of pops last wish!!" goes super mode
then OK... But if he stays lying and whining about that he is too weak and wants to die... that is weak.
Luffy never even after being beaten gave up!
-
Idk how this will turn out the next chaps. Luffy goin' haoushoku haki again really seems kinda lame.
Otherwise it'd be awesome if he could beat Akainu (or at least hurt his logia-body), because back then after the W7-arc I thought it'd be cool if Luffy beats Akainu (but I thought it'd happen in MJ). So I hoped that would happen back then. At that time I didn't know that Merman island is underneath MJ and that the merman arc would happen before the RL-arc. At that time I also hoped that Jimbei would be a 10-time-more-badass than Arlong (Jimbei is my biggest personal disappointment of OP).
But now it'd be awesome if at least that prediction of me would come true (I know, its a tiny chance that sth like that would happen really).
Anyway I like how Oda twists the "winning side" of the war every chap (in that chap Marines own pirates the next chap its vice-versa)!
And I definetely love Akainu's badass attitude! He first tries to kill Luffy, the weaker one of the brothers. Such a sneaky asshole! -
If Luffy beats Akainu now… than he as powerful as top tuer pirates like WB and co... So now way for that... Ace could do it MAYBE but he to stop his whiny
-
And Ace who is aware of it and probably, as son of a D and pirate king, has to have it too… even in rage can't show it.
Why are you saying that in your every post?!
Yes, Ace has a D heritage. Yes, he lives in the yonkou world. But that doesn't mean he has ambition or can show it. He was shown to be strong without it and was doing not that bad. Strong ambition was seen wielded by strong pirates, it doesn't mean all strong pirates have ambition. Sheesh.
And Ace wasn't made a second division commander because he was weaker than Marco and stronger than Joz.He was doing good as a whitebeard pirate and Newgate suggested him to take a free spot. Nothing more nothing less.
Why are you assuming the wildest things? And Ace gonna die.
-

Well cuz even Marco and Jozu showed it… cuz he is the son of the pirate king... and it was shown, that a fruit alone isn't all to win now!
And I'm not assuming the wildest thing... I just can't take that Ace is doing shit and has to be rescued all the time but wuot it... See ya next chapter

Luffy never even after being beaten gave up!
Once more: the value of a person isn't measured by how physically powerful that person is, or how well they do in battle.
His resolve is weaker than Luffy's for sure and I think that this moment will probably push Luffy past his prior limits to the point where he is considered stronger than Ace. Also, there's nothing that confirms Ace has King's Ambition, so stop expecting it just because his father had it. Ace has made it damn clear he's not his father and never wanted to be these past couple of arcs.
Regardless of how strong Luffy and Ace are, Akainu seems stronger than both. Ace doesn't get torn apart because of an insult; he chooses to take that last hit to save his brother. His back is to Akainu, he's not attacking because he knows nothing he can do can counter that fist, just as he knows Luffy would die if he doesn't do anything.
Oh and Ace taking Akainu's attack doesn't put anyone in danger who wasn't already in danger, and he didn't want them to come anyway. They chose to come, Ace didn't ring them up and force them.
For the record, when did he lie?
-
So Ace acts just like Luffy int his chapter and ends with him taking purposely a punch which would have killed Luffy and he is still shit, I see.
Seriously, you guys are a little bit hipocrits.
I liked this chapter because it gave use again the tension which had dissapeared since Ace liberation. BTW, enjoy seeing Ace like shit, because this will be the only and last arc in which you will be seeing him like that. -

I mean lying on the ground.. Sorry for my english
But my aspect isn't that he has to be upper powerful but to show why WB wanted to make him pirate king. I know he is young… but if he really someday want to make WB's dream come true... he have to change his personality and has to get the WILL like Luffy it has... And I really thought that after he has been freed he would show something like that after seeing all of his beloves mates in danger and his pops dying.
Ok it was noble for him taken the hit for Luffy but before that he got raged cuz of an insulting but I dunno... no signs of full willpower like Luffy. It seems as he have some sort of blockade in his mind to live to his full potential which some characters are seeing in him.
And I repeat it... I'm not saying he has to beat Akainu or anything like that. But I thought now he change personality wise and shows some haki after being raged and unable to save all of them before.
We clearly knows that he knows what it is, but somehow he hasn't used even not uncontrolled like Luffy in a situation like that.
But who knows next chapter maybe

Are you going to add anything new, or just rehash every single post??
Ace & Luffy's personalites have to do with the environment they grew up in. Ace grew up with the stigma knowing that he was the son of the Pirate King, that Roger was a hated man and the worst criminal in existance & that his very own existance was sinful.
Also Ace is not whiney. Nothing 'whiney' about him. 1 person says he is, and the rest just jump of the hate-ace bandwagon because for whatever reason they dislike him or the Ace fandom.
-

The haters just keep picking at the scene where he tells Garp that he disowned his father. That's the only ammo they have.

You don't get it… I have nothing completely nothing against Ace... I really like him in appearance and even in character like in Arabasta... But this time it is the perfect time to show what others expect of him like his beloved father... So I only hope that he isn't saved by Luffy one again and go over the limits end end the blockade or whatever his holding him back!
Maybe WB give him a speech next chapter and he will stand up stronger than ever... i just don't want him to be saved once again
-
or maybe he'll die right before his brother. His life lived for the sake of others rather than himself.
-
Ace will not die.
-
or maybe he'll die right before his brother. His life lived for the sake of others rather than himself.
that will come after he gets PK..than he will scrifice himself for his nakama!
-
Grats Ace for ruining Whitebeard
s and every unnamed guy
s sacrifice
And grats Vekapunk for turning a high tier (Kuma) into a pasifistia level fighter. -

Ah, no problem. ‘Lying’ totally threw me for a moment there.
Why on earth would Ace want to fulfil Whitebeard’s dream by becoming the Pirate King? Nothing Ace has done in the present has suggested he still wants to become the Pirate King. There’s currently way more evidence to suggest that he’ll throw his support behind Luffy, or salvage what’s left of the WB Pirates rather than rush off to chase someone else’s dream. Ace is self aware enough to know that becoming the Pirate King wouldn’t fill the void left by a man he’s long considered his father.
As for haki, Ace does not need to have King’s Ambition in order to be a good character. He doesn’t need to suddenly solve all his personal issues, destroy an admiral and save the day to be a good character. In fact, that would be pretty lame, contrived and it’d turn Ace into something the manga really, really doesn’t need: a kind of Roger or Luffy 2.0. Ace is not his father, he’s not his brother, he’s Ace. In fact, the issue of his father, of Whitebeard, of Luffy even is why Ace hasn’t been able to take any sort of value in himself. That’s good characterisation. Inane, forced resolutions should stay in Naruto.
In this chapter, he saved Luffy's life and people are still bitching about him. It's stupid.

Well i disagree… With WBs death I think Ace should try to become the PK as he tried before meeting WB... and I bet Marco and co. would help him. But like I said he needs a strong will and change somehow mentally (which would include a possible haki thing which he knows about)
I don' even say king haki (even if roger's son could most likely have it) or beating an admiral now... but to stand up after a defeating and keeps on fighting now and show some of improvement... that would be the best time now and not being saved by someone again
-
Well cuz even Marco and Jozu showed it… cuz he is the son of the pirate king... and it was shown, that a fruit alone isn't all to win now!

Ri~ight.
Somebody got one of their favorite character nerfed. -

Ri~ight.
Somebody got one of their favorite character nerfed. So you would prefer Ace won't change anytime soon? Even after WBs death for him? But I won't repeat it.. If you don't get it and like that Ace has always to be rescued
and BTW Ace is in the lower half of my top 10

NONONONO!!!
i can't believe this..so lava is stronger than fire???
omgggggggggg…cliffhangers.........grrrr
-
Well maybe the cliffhanger is a good sign =)
But it is not just the fire… Akainu is probably on a different level in skill than Ace
-
damn man…all this saving ace..and if he really does die.......no..he won't
-
I doubt he will die but like you said… all this saving.
I hope we will get a suprise next week... I liked the theory of someone that the heat of Akainu only made Ace fire stronger. But I believe in oda
-

Why do you think he should chase the One Piece if it isn't what he wants for himself? Ace has continually put other people before himself and his immediate concern post-war (if he survives, as is likely) is going to be Luffy and his friends, especially once Iva's drugs wear off and Luffy collapses.
You seem to want Ace to become a fanfic Gary-Stu character and are disappointed when he's not. He doesn't need to kick everyone's ass, save the day and run off to be the PK in order to be an interesting character. He's not some cliched 'better than you' version of Luffy created to rival him, he's not Sasuke to Luffy's Naruto. His flaws are what keep him interesting to me and were he to overcome them all within a chapter I'd be most disappointed.
-
Luffy- Has been saved many times by his crew (Several times form him almost drowning because of his stupidity)Then theres the fact that he got his crew annihilated by Kizaru because he deliberately disobeyed a warning.
Zoro- Almost died to Mihawk because of his pride
Nami- A.K.A Damsel in distress
Ussop- Not even gonna go there, entirety of water 7 basically
Chopper- Couldnt even beat one priest in skypedia, Needs Sanji, luffy, ussop etc. to fight for him.
Sanji- Let Kalifa own him, needed a mermaid to save him from losing to duvals lame ass
Robin- Cough Enenies LobbyCough
Franky- I think too many people forget to easily that he beat ussop within an inch of his life twice and never took a blow from luffy about it. Not to mention pushed the Going Merry into a storm…NOT COOL.
Brook- Has never won a fight in the series continuality
Ace- Tried to avenge his close friend and crewmate which was also his job. Though he fought well, lost. Was tourtured for days and held captive, had to watch his friends die before his eyes trying to save him, felt guilty about it, defended his fathers name and got hurt by admiral. SAVED LUFFY'S LIFE.IDK guys, i'm just not seein it.
-
@People:
Akainu destroyed ace's tatoo. Ace will be safe, for sure. But he will have a scar from this war: the disappearance of the WB's mark. Very symbolic. Well done Oda.
You people seem to have missed this one. Personally I think this post is perhaps the only one that makes any sense in the whole thread, with the exception of Aohiges translations of course..
Now I'll just have to wait for WB to step in, save Ace, tell Luffy to take his brother and haul their asses out of there with the escapeship while sacrificing himself to stop Akainu.
Only one major character will die in this war, and as Oda did indirectly announce with last weeks chapter that WB will die I don't see how Ace could die anymore. Of course it is possible if he decides to do something overwhelmingly bizarre and kill of two "majors", but as death really is a big thing with characters this much power and respect across the OPworld (and with Aces relationship with Luffy), I don't see it happening.
And: Where are the scanlation when you need them ._.? Binktopia, FH, any?
-
@Yonkou#3:

Gedatsu would like a word with you.
-
Gedatsu would like a word with you.
Gedatsu kicked choppers ass. That was the least earned victory since Luffy vs. Kuro and i refuse to count it.
-
Ace can do nothing against akainu
Look and the chapters back although WB couldn't do anything just receiving magma attacks and crying
the others two commanders marco and jozu lost easily against the admirals
So powers are not equal, don't forget the ages diffence and the experience
I'm still waiting for a sacrifice from squardo -

He started as pirate probably to be the PK and not to meet with WB… But after WB dies what will be left. I doubt he will sail with Luffy and I doubt he will ignore WB's wish to make him PK. I don't say Luffy and him will be hated rivals who will fight each other but Luffy twice staded how awesome Ace is and that one day he will be stronger.
-

Whether you refuse to count it or not doesn't change the fact that it was a victory for Chopper. The fact that he's weaker in fights than the others and really had to struggle has nothing to do with it; he beat Gedatsu. He found Gedatsu's weakpoint, exploited it, and left him powerless in the swamp clouds.

NONONONO!!!
i can't believe this..so lava is stronger than fire???
omgggggggggg…cliffhangers.........grrrr
Well one thing can melt stone, the other thing cannot.
I don't know the difference between lava and magma precisely (I think its magma when inside a volcano and becomes lava when it comes outside), but I do know that magma's hotter than fire.
Funny, we can't see what happened to Joz' right arm, people always cover important details in manga.
There are some blind users who still think Jozu didn't lose an arm, but seriously:
IF JOZ ISN'T LOGIA, HE BETTER MASTURBATES WITH HIS LEFT ARM IN THE FUTURE!!!

Oh yea Ace has the gall to say the name of this era is Whitebeard.
Nigga you forgot about who started this shit? This the pirate king's era bitch.

A lot of us agree that Ace isn't going to die, but I wonder how Oda is going to explain Ace's survival. All his internal organs should be destroyed by now. There is no hormone that could fix that.

NONONONO!!!
i can't believe this..so lava is stronger than fire???
omgggggggggg…cliffhangers.........grrrr
Its Magma, Not lava though they are the same, magma becomes lava when it surfaces to the ground. And i think its a lame power coz its just Molten rock. Something like Liquid metal was awesomee:D

Hopefully he is permanently inactive as a pirate for the rest of this manga. Turn him in to the Chiaotzu of this manga

@DSC:
LMFAO Luffy has been getting save all his freaking life. We still didn't get to see Ace battles with his crew, which made the World gov wanted him at his side. You don't know wat battles he went through or how many times he saved his crewmates?friends. You get to see Luffy doing that more now because he is the main character. Also Oda wouldn't mention Luffy being weaker in the last chapter.
Ace saves Luffy, just like Luffy would of saved Ace. He wanted to kill BB when he said he was going after his little brother.

Zoro's injuries were really bad and he didn't become inactive for the rest of the manga. I hope that Oda is creative enough to have some use for Ace.

Zoro didn't get impaled by a magma fist.
He just fought a super giant and then received all the pain Luffy got from that super giant and Moria.
I want to see Ace dead anyway but Oda probably will just make this "cliffhanger" and the injury sustained a joke later where it isn't that serious anyway.
