I recently ran into this series and damn I'm loving it. To be honest I don't really know much about Joung justice besides the episodes I've already watched so I'm kinda stumped on where the who's gonna die discussion came from. Can someone fill me in?

Yeah, that one was never mentioned in show, but I think I've read in an interview with Greg Weisman, one of the producers of the show, that he said that this show will be darker and more serious, and there's no guarantee that everyone will be alive by the end of the season.

Personally, if it's just about the teens, I'll place my bets on Speedy/Red Arrow. Someone said that Aqualad is the most expendable due to him being the jack of all trades that is outclassed by everyone else, and that it will make more sense and impact in-universe if he's the one dying, but Speedy is even more expendable with Artemis there filling the archery role. Of course, it could be her that's dying, but like someone else said it would do well to reinforce the importance of the team to the group, and his death has great potential in the Kid Flash-Artemis development.

Well, that's if it's the teens. If they're just playing it safe, they can off one of the lesser-known Justice League members, like maybe Zatara if they are going to introduce Zatanna who can do about everything her father does.

The problem is by season 2 Robin will probably be the leader, so his role is kind of done with.

Speedy isn't really on the team, not officially anyway.

Artemis is much closer to TT Robin than Terra while the same is also true of Speedy.

Robin is the oddball of the group. If anything, this Robin is a blend of the entire Teen Titans cast.

Well cyborg's rivalery with "Brother Blood" was never very interesting to be honest and i think that contributed to cyborg not being that great. But he did have that one great episode when he decided that he could stop being a robot whenever he wanted and that was great.

I picked Artemis and Raven because they're both reserved, serious, and you have your doubts about which side they're on

Supes and Terra are both emotional and do a lot of physical damage, and their skills aren't that honed

I'm surprised Aqualad didn't utilize any of his own magical teachings, he is supposed to possess some minimal magic, but maybe they're saving it for an upgrade.

Love any and all Ed Asner appearances. The guy has the best old man voice in voice acting history.

And I'm surprisingly warming up to Kid Flash more and more. He's an annoying dork, but is extremely consistent and has a lot of likeability to him. I'm also 100% okay with them setting up a KF/Artemis romance. Especially when her past is revealed and no one is sure if they can trust her or not.

Wally x Megan is just a cover for Megan x Supes. My theory is

! that when the Superboy thing comes to a head, Megan is gonna be vital in reaching out to him, resulting in either her or Supes' death.
! Also, with this episode really pushing Wally/Artemis, I think it will be much less likely that she will be the one to croak, since them being a couple will probably be something that happens much later in the series, maybe even season 2 or 3. but I'm not ruling it out entirely.

that's just my theory. The show is just as likely to take a completely different turn in regards to plot

There's definitely a funny similarity there, but this is about roles! I can't decide if I overlooked Supes because he's a guy, and I've been thinking about it a lot

If it's not about roles, then obviously Megan would be Raven because they both have the same powers and similar costumes, but back story wise, there's a lot more similarities with supes

but personal histories, appearances, abilities, and maybe sometimes personalities are what make characters unique (particularly in the DC world), and so I'm still going to stand by my original comparisons that i tried to base on roles

Far as powers go, both Raven and Superboy have some of their father's powers, but both fall well short of the original at first. Raven's strength increases as the series go by as will Superboy's.

Plus there's the whole weird situation where each of them is a living tool; Raven as a conduit between dimensions for Trigon and Superboy as the last line of defense in case of rogue superheroes. One's a gateway, the other's a gate.

I was talking more about both being children of Good and Evil (if you've read the comic). Though if Supes does end up having you-know-who's dna, they could both be seen as tools for evil.

If that's the case, they'd both be rebelling against their supposed basic nature.

There'd also be a good chance that Superboy will run off for fear of hurting the rest of the team before coming to grips with who he is like Raven did.

I could probably yak your ears off in regards to teen titans (as I'm sure you know lol). I'm really excited about this show though, because i feel like it's gonna take the plot places I wish TT had gone (though TT was much more fearless about everything) and I hope at least BB makes an appearance

In regards to TT its too early to tell how YJ stacks up. However, so far, it doesn't seem that YJ will be as…dark?..as TT was, which is a shame but there is still a lot of time and I am liking the team and overall vibe of YJ so far.

True; Teen Titans was willing to exploit its status as an animated series whereas Young Justice will have to be more reserved simply because of its more serious nature.

Not to mention how TT and Batman: The Brave and the Bold really bucked the trend when it comes to most DC series in recent years by starting en media res with no origin episode. Batman:TAS didn't either, but Superman:TAS, Batman Beyond (which was the finest Spider-Man series ever made until Spectacular Spider-Man came around), Justice League, and JL: Unlimited all started with origin episodes that showed people either starting their careers or joining the group.

Teen Titans not only started off with them as a functioning group, but one that had been around for long enough for friction to develop between Robin and Cyborg because of their personalities.

I'd like to see the entire cast pop up at some point, but I can understand why they'd want to stay away from that. At a guess, if they had their druthers, even Robin wouldn't be part of the team. If nothing else, the writers leaving Robin out of the last episode and his relative lack of action compared to the rest of the team heavily suggests that.

I wasn't trying to list all of the wacky villains (that's why people like Killer Moth and Ding Dong Daddy weren't mentioned), but merely a selection of them. I picked those three characters as the four episodes featuring them were the some of the most memorable of the series. The two Mad Mod episodes in particular have a tendency to pop up in lists of favorite Teen Titans episodes.

Also, a wannabe like Rancid doesn't deserve to listed in the same category as awesome characters like Mad Mod, Control Freak, and Mumbo Jumbo.

Yeah, absolutely on the Kid Flash/Artemis bandwagon now. Barring sudden random death, (or even on the eve of it if such things need to be the case) they're absolutely hooking up later.

I mean, they hate each other sooo much at the moment, its incredibly cute.

If Artemis had a slight Russian accent it would be Linka and Wheeler all over again.

Enjoying this show a lot so far. I have mixed feelings about Wallys portrayal in this episode though. I liked Wallys refusal to believe in the supernatural. Nice little nod to Mark Waids run on the flash. I just think it would be nice to see a bit more of his serious side. I get that he's the comic relief but on a team full of clones, martians, atlantians, and a kid raised in the circus he's also the normal one. I'd like that touched on a bit more then it has been.

I really disagree there. They chose to go with Greyson as opposed to Tim, whether due to popularity, or the fact they did want to include some aspects of the TT universe, or whatever. I thought leaving Robin out of the ep was an obvious throwback to the way the Justice League was written: taking out certain characters to make things more interesting.

As a result, there was a definite emotional whiplash effect to that series.

you can't really blame them for that, since continuity was pretty much frowned upon by the execs.

Though I doubt it'll get much darker than TT. It's hard to beat seeing a character basically commit suicide after seeing her family and home destroyed by Satan lol

I wasn't the biggest TT fan. I liked the silly episodes, but its nature as a heavily anime-inspired, sometimes-silly cartoon gave the more serious situations less impact. I also just couldn't get on board with some of the main characters and recurring villains. Right now I like Young Justice better, but I want to see them add at least one more character to the team.

My favorite TT reference/thing - the Justice League episode that used the five main character TT voice actors for the Royal Flush Gang.

I felt that the fact that they had random silly episodes gave the serious stuff MORE impact. Pretty much whenever ~~Deathstroke~~ Slade turned up you knew they were screwed and Robin was about to get his ass kicked, or Raven was going to turn into a demon or something. Seeing happy fun characters suddenly get smacked with consequences makes it more grim, more scary, more desperate, since its a bigger break from the usual happy go lucky the characters have. Suddenly the leads aren't in control of things and the badguys have that much more of an upper hand.

Slayers was loaded with this. And its still one of my favorite series.

Oh, and on TT, did anyone else ever notice that they'd play the Japanese credits for the silly episodes, and the Engrish one for the serious episodes? Oh Puffy Ami Yumi, they tried so hard to make you a fad, and failed miserably.

Yeah, Batman and Superman were often absent in the early comics as well. It's less the absence and more the fact that a lot of the battles and character development focus on the rest of the cast instead of Robin.

Again, I don't think individual episodes will be darker, but only that we won't get episodes on the opposite extreme so it's going to average out as a darker show.

And it's amusing that you would say that about the costumes since we got to know the Titans very well and they were almost never out of costume. The only episodes I can think of where they were out of costume was the first Killer Moth episode and the one where Robin underwent martial arts training.

And they actually succeeded with Puffy Ami Yumi to some extent; the show was receiving fairly good ratings as did their various live action specials. The bigger problem for them was a lack of executive interest and lack of merchandising sales.

Yeah, because we saw them goofing off around the tower, sleeping, working, and so much more than just fighting villains. The creator wanted them to never be seen outside of uniform because he wanted them to be 'iconic', which i never really liked. They did have some cute winter outfits in season 5 though

In the later seasons while they didn't show them out of costume, they did begin to be more leniant to their alter ego's. Cyborg's alias when infiltrating H.I.V.E. was Stone(His real name being Victor Stone), And in Season 5 the Doom Patrol told the Titans Beast Boy's name was Garfeild.

Then with Robin we did get that tie in Comic that said he was Dick Grayson(Aside from the obvious hint being Larry's real name is Dick's backward). So the only thing we didn't get was Raven and Starfire….but Raven's was her real name I believe.

raven has an alias of Rachel Roth that didn't have anything to do with the cartoon (but will probably be important in the new cw TV show)

That's an odd excuse when it comes down to it. Cyborg can't change out of his "uniform" and, barring Robin, the rest of the team doesn't have secret identities. Leaving them in their costumes all of the time is simply the easiest way to prevent having an odd man out.

Yeah, it was mixed in there with a lot of other stuff. Blackfire might have said Koriand'r at some point as well in the same episode. I also believe Starfire used her Tamaranian name during her rant when she first arrives on the planet in the origins episode late in the series.

then i decided to watch and so far its pretty decent show. its almost like watching the episodes of smallville when there a ton of super heroes in it.

edit: just watchd the clip i posted and wasn't the one i saw. the one i saw was the clip where superboy jumps on teh bridge to save the bus and almost knocks it off due to his rough landing. Again conan substituted in as superman. but regardless the clip above still gets my point across, or whatever.
