The hell? When did that happen?

Never actually left Japan, but….Holy crap. I just realized Mega Man and Roll are on the front cover! And....Dig Dug's somewhere in the game.

Ooooooohhhhh. Nice.

! Namco. They also own Pac-Man, Galaga, and Pole Position as well, so they're pretty much responsible for the old arcade games most people think of.
Still seems odd they can get the pacman ghosts and Bowser, but not Mario or Pacman. Whatever.

Maybe they're saving that for the "cool reveal" scene.
They're either saving it for the "cool reveal" scene or it costs more money to use the iconic heroes rather than just the villains or side characters.

I'm pretty sure its already been confirmed that the licensing on those characters is more expensive/companies don't want them out there, so they couldn't swing it. (Mega Man and Dr. Wily are out as well) But, I've heard that second hand and not from anywhere official, so…
You'd also think with advertising Sonic front and center they'd also have Mario.
Really, the poster would be a lot better if it had a TON of characters on it... not just Sonic and Street Fighter getting massive representation, and a couple others.
I'm still waiting for the Donkey Kong appearance though unless the character has a purpose, it might be too strange since Ralph is essentially the "Donkey Kong" of the universe there.

They also seem to be using modern sonic rather than older style sonic.
I see what you mean though. Even in the picture of the game I posted above in the spoiler has a ton of characters in it while that has….8 background characters.

seeing sonic and eggman together is enough to get me to watch this.
Can't freaking wait for this movie, but there's something that's been bugging me about the trailer:
[hide]Who are the two angel kids who appear next to Dig Dug and Frogger, running away from Ralph? I thought they were the kids from Toy Pop, but I was wrong. I have no idea.[/hide]
I swear in another trailer or commercial I saw Chun-Li walking through the crowd. Wouldn't she count as an A-lister character?
Seriously though, if they can get Bowser why can't they get Mario? Think we'll get Toad?

Agreed. At least more characters from the movie, like Felix and the eggpeople or the Hero's Quest and Sugar Rush populace.
This poster feels like "Wreck it Ralph! And these guys you know from real video games!". Tho I must admit to a bit of fanboy-ism seeing Sonic and Robotnik on a movie poster.
I swear in another trailer or commercial I saw Chun-Li walking through the crowd.
That picture of Ralph offering the Q*Bert cast a cherry has her and Zangief walking down some steps on the side.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any of that sequence where Ralph is happily living in his stump in the woods before people show up to clear cut the forest and throw up that apartment building over his home in any of these trailers.
Was that just some bonus promotional material that is going to wind up as a bonus feature on the DVD or is that actually going to be in the film?
Here's some more Wreck-It-Ralph posters with M.Bison and Sonic and company up-and-front:

Tell me Jane Lynch's character doesn't look like fem!Shep and you're lying.
Really that just makes it feel even more awkward that its just Street Fighter, Sonic, and a couple 30 year old characters like Q-bert and pacman ghost. (No one is going to recognize the altered beast rhino without being told what it is.) It feels less like cute cameo tie in, and more like… shilling.
Are they even going to be big roles in the movie? Or just 30 second cameo gags?
New international trailer for Wreck-It-Ralph:
I'm liking Vanellope the more I see her.
So I'm assuming from the trailer that the 'bad guy who is instantly recognisable to gamers' is Space Invaders? Or are those just random bug aliens?
If you mean the green glowing thing they were riding on, that would be Centipede.
Unless you're referring to something else.
From the promotional papers in the new Cinderella Blu-Ray/DVD, we have confirmation that the next Animated Disney Vault releases will be (along with Aladdin in Spring 2013):
Cinderella 2/Cinderella 3 combo-pak (November 20, 2012)
Peter Pan (Spring 2013)
The Little Mermaid (Fall 2013)
It's fair to assume that the Aladdin, Peter Pan, and Little Mermaid sequels will be also be made available shortly after the original films.
PeterPan/PeterPan 2 was advertised on amazon as a blu-ray combo in the UK. It's actually coming out this upcoming Monday. (we've also got a Cinderella Blu-Ray pack of 1-2-3 already too) weird that the releases are so different.
Surely you're aware that we already made a thread for that?
Shortly after posting that, I became aware of that, yes. I just got home right before I posted that and generally ignore the Media Forum.
By posting that in here, I had a weird image in my head of Disney producing an animated Star Wars film. Err not like Clone Wars, but that other one…
Makes me wonder if Disney will try their hand at an animated spinoff in the near future.
Something I was wondering about today: in A Goofy Movie, did they ever have a reason Pete's wife and daughter didn't show up? It was clear it was a follow up to Goof Troop with the presence of Max and PJ, but Peg and Pistil are nowhere to be seen. If theyre not divorced, its kinda odd that Pete is taking just his son on a country-wide RV trip. Pete was always characterized as kind of a dick, but he was never THAT big of an asshole.
Well, from a production standpoint, it was to concentrate the focus on the two father-son dynamics. In-universe, we've never had any reason at all for Peg and Pistol not to show up.

The same reason most Disney parents are single.
You have X minutes of screentime, you try not to spend it on characters that aren't going to be doing anything.
There's no reason to assume Peg and Pistol have left, they just aren't going on the father/son bonding trip thing. Less of a "not taking the whole family on vacation" and more of "we're going out and doing guy stuff for a while" thing. I wouldn't want to spend 3 months with Pete in an RV either.
(Though a sentence or a photo or something woulda gone a long way… and ditto for the missing Roxanne in the sequel. Granted they had a bunch of random new characters and love interests for everyone else...)

That's kinda what I'm getting at. I totally get Ubiq's explanation, from an out-of universe explanation, but I'd have liked to have seen a family photo or something, at least as a background detail to acknowledge their existence.
Kinda like how there's no sign of Gizmoduck or Bubba in the Ducktales movie, but little to no evidence of the Genie character in the show proper. (I vaguely recall an episode or 2 very late in the series' run that had him in it) making it difficult to place the movie in the show's (loose) timeline.

Bubba was eventually sent back home to his own time I think. (But its been 20 years since I watched the show.) And the movie was released at pretty much the same time as the last episodes were airing. So, Fenton missing aside, its probably safe to say it took place after the show… not that there was a whole lot of ongoing continuity anyway.
Checking wikipedia, the third season only contained seven episodes (to bring the episode count to an even 100, which is better for syndication) ... and three of those were hold overs from season 2. So only four episodes were made with the knowledge the movie was coming. So that's probably the answer, the movie takes place between episodes 96 and 97.
Did the Genie really show up in the television serie? I watched through the entire run and for some reason can't remember him at all. Though, I do remember Dijon showing up multiple times. (Are you sure it was the Genei and not Dijon making cameos in the late episodes?)

Do we even see inside of Pete's house in A Goofy Movie?
Neither of them showing up at the BBQ in An Extremely Goofy Movie was odd though since it was a farewell party for both Max and PJ.
Bubba in the Ducktales movie,
Nothing of value was lost. Though I believe Fenton's absence probably had something to do with Darkwing Duck since he was supposed to have had a large role in the original premise for that show if I recall correctly.
but little to no evidence of the Genie character in the show proper.
I don't think the Genie ever showed up at all; Dijon was in a couple of episodes towards the end of the show. One was about some sort of bug that ate metal and the other was about a goose that turned everything it came into contact with into gold.
yeah, that's the connection I was recalling. He was smuggling like silverware in his pants or something. Only saw the ep once, but remembered thinking "Ah! At least they finally referenced the movie in the show".
Ralph was enjoyable. Suprisingly heart warming at parts. I expected them to hop through as many recognizable video games as they could on some quest but it was really about the characters and most of recognizable ones had short cameos.
I'm quite amazed at how satisfying the film was. I liked Ralph as a character, even if his story arc started from the equivalent of a Sam and Ralph (?!) cartoon. The video game refs were well-utilized for the most part, and plenty certainly got a chuckle out of me, such as a Mario name drop and an NPC trooper's physics upon meeting a wall.
Oddly enough, the joke that really cracked me up had nothing to do with video games; it was simply the Sugar Rush Oreo guards doing their version of the Oz Winkies' chant. Simple, but in my case, effective.
When I went to another movie on Thursday, my local theater had a giant cutout for Wreck It Ralph featuring Sonic. WANT.
Alas, I won't get to see the movie until Sunday night; I may have to avoid this topic until then, just in case…
Ralph was solid. Like Taggerung said, the characters are the films bread and butter, and Ralph and especially Vanellope are fantastic. I really like that the film wasn't an onslaught of video game references once it found its footing and instead chose to develop its primary game worlds and the characters inside of them. Ralph and Vanellope were just so much fun to watch together that it makes the pathological moments pack a mean wallop.
! I teared up quite a few times, but especially when Ralph wrecks the car and when he's trying to pull Vanellope out of the game. God damn, why do I CARE so much about these characters?!
So yeah, the movie takes its relatively short running time and spends it economically, though the movie is pretty slow before Vanellope shows up. (Incidentally, it's the first quarter of the movie containing 99% of the video game jokes, which is also the movie's weakest quarter).
! Felix and NotSamus were fun diversions, but they really felt "there" at times, like an aside (thought NotSamus and Felix do eventually play a ole in the climax, I just felt the whole sexual tension thing was a bit too divorced from the rest of the movie. Though, let it be known that NotSamus's backstory was terrific. In all definitions of the word. NotSamus in a wedding gown with heavy weapons is the most glorious thing.
! Also, "It's like doomsday and armageddon had a baby, and it sure is ugly."
! Speaking of, I was a bit lost with the movie's multiple villains at first. I was worried something would get dropped in the mix or not concluded properly, but I really dig the end result. It was great to see those threads get tied up in the end.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. Did not think it'd be better than Tangled but Tangled wasn't such an emotional thrillride. This movie is boss.
A sketch I did this morning.
I was stoked about this film and usually I get disappointed… but it this movie delivered what I was expecting and more.
Saw it on opening day and indeed this film got it right all across the board. Like many, I was worried for it too that the game refs would bring it down. But no, thats just a little treat for gamers and the story is the main focus. Some fantastic characters that make you care about them as well and bringing on their development nicely. It has some good pacing and visual (good God, so much candy @_@). Heck I was even kicking myself for not seeing the twist coming, I'm usually on the lookout for Chekov's Guns like that. So when a film can get me invested to that extend, then it's done a good job. I also like the fact it doesn't rely too much on star power for it as well, I'm not really much into these actors' other works (except Ed O' Neil, I was surprised to find he was in it even if it was a minor role) especially Sarah Silverman but yeah, she really got Vanelliope down pat.
I'll admit the B-Plot of the film didn't really seem to go anywhere but I think that was more just a break from Ralph's plot, truth be told I found this had the most humor in the story.
Needless to say this movie earned its place in my top favorite Disney movies. Looking forward to it's DVD release.
I thought all the voice actors did a great job. It helped that they were playing characters that they usually play but you couldn't find more perfect people to deliver those lines than Jack Mcbride or Jane Lynch. John C Reily hardly ever plays anyone but him but somehow he tones it down or up just enough that it fits into so many different settings and Silverman was energetic and emotional and really made Vanelope come to life. kudos for all of them and the supporting cast as well.
Alright, as a moderator and someone who hasn't seen the movie yet: USE SPOILER TAGS.
Saw it today. Really really liked it. One of the best Disney movies to come out in recent years (yes, I thought it was better than Tangled and Princess and the Frog).
! It really is the tribute to video games that gamers have been asking for. Loved all the cameos and subtle nods to other games. It really shows that the writers and artists knew their stuff.
! I gotta admit I teared up a bit when Ralph wrecked the car. Also, the reveal of King Candy being Turbo took me completely by surprise and yet it made total sense.
So yeah, for any video-game fan, this is a must-see.
! I got so many feels once Ralph decided to drop to his death to ignite the beacon. So many.
! Great arcade reference after the credits.
I really enjoyed the movie! Funny, cute, surprisingly heart-warming. There was actually a round of applause at the end (very full theater of kids and adults).
I like how Mulan and Pocohantas are just sort of snuck into the back, being not really princess' at all, but you know, they fill out a racial quota. Tiana and Jasmine are kinda forcibly thrown into the back too. I wouldn't normally notice, but its the case in ALL of those pictures to varying degrees.
And I know Disney's been doing that for years, but its still funny when its so wedged in like that.
And yet the actual princess from Atlantis is completely ignored because they try to pretend that movie wasn't really a theatrical release.
