I bet you anything that after the Strawhat adventures cover story, we'll be getting one about Hannibal or Magellan dealing with aftermath of the Impel Down incident, much like the one with the CP9. Then, we'd see what happened to Bon Clay after saying good-bye to Luffy again.
Chapter 548 "Thank you" Discussion
-
-
makes me sad to know that bon clay will never join SH crew now. i was so hopeful after all the stuff he and luffy went through in ID.
you will be missed bon-chan!
-
If you want to see main characters die go read Naruto ;-)
I'm sorry, but if Oda is trying to make me fret a character dieing, he's done a very poor job of it. I don't really expect anyone to die at this point, with possibly the exception of Whitebeard. And that won't really come as a surprise.
I don't really see how this has anything to do with Naruto. But you can keep blindly following Oda and pretending like he does no wrong.

Why a cover story? Magellan will probably show up again in the "Marineford arc"
(which really is pretty much the same arc. It's like people calling Water 7 and Enies Lobby different arcs. Yeah, they occur in different locations, but if that's the case then Water 7 is an "arc" without a real ending. It's weird.)
Anyway, back on topic, in this very chapter Magellan said he'd pursue the criminals himself, plus he clearly has the authority to open the gates any time he wants. I can't see how anyone thinks we won't see the characters from Impel Down again when there's nothing stopping them from giving chase. (at least the ones that'll be useful on the seas)
-
Considering current situation and the way it develop, i think Magellan will be forced to take responsibility for ID incident, shortly fired end executed. If he go to Marineford and in mean time BB will make his reappearance in ID, then Magellan will find his end upon his arrival to Marineford by Akainu hands. Hannibal will be promoted.
-
Sad week.. first bon-chan, then michael… Why lord why?

I don't agree to the whole commet, but yeah, I wonder what's going to happen between Magellan, Shiryuu and BB, and also what's going to be the marines reaction regarding the breakout of 241 prisonners. Can't wait to find out :D

Superb boring chapter damn it this week. Cant care less about freak of nature mr 2, everything would be done via snailphone… and escapers are just sitting there and waiting next week. This is not OP what I started read. Oda should done Impel Down differently. He rushed way too good thing. I hope he wont do it again with Fishman Island... seriously. Good to see that Franky is up and running again, against cyborg animals? Big no for pet ideas. At least this chapter didnt have plotholes. Oh and two more to pull under deck I see. And I tought KiShiDo were good fellow... oh well.
Great hopes for next week.
-
You're boring every damn week… Chapter was pure gold

We haven't seen him much,
what happen to this guy?Did Magellan (or somebody) tell him go guard something somewhere…?? What floor was it...
-
Think lil' Saldeath was last seen sending the bluegori to attack. After the lot were wiped out by Iva, he just sort of vanished. Which is a shame. I kinda hoped for something more out of the little guy. :(
-
-
Screw Saldeath, what happened to Domino? All hell broke loose and she disappeared after the elevator scene.
-
Domino is the true ruler of impel down who can pwn magallen within 1 hit using the pirated version of nami's happiness punch.

Domino is Sanji .
-
i think oda forgot about saldeath and domino.i dont know if it was a mistake but its like he forgot about them.
-
Cute chapter. But considering Oda's lightning pace, it felt too drawn out. The ending felt forced. Not cool. Oda works best when you're not expecting himt to hit you with emotional right hooks. What makes it worse is that 2 is obviously in no danger whatsoever.
Wasn't happy how he resolved the criminals he's responsible for having let escape either.
"I'm gonna be a good person and go back to my family!"
Come on Oda. You're better than that… This felt like I was reading an AMAZINGLY good chapter of any of comic in JUMP, but it wasn't even an average chapter of OP.
Just cute.
-
I think One piece has been going for over 10 years when they were originally planned to run 5 years and I think the series is running a bit too long, so Oda may be under pressure to end the series as soon as possible. Besides there are lots of unanswered questions like what is one piece, what happened during the void century, and how will things come together and stuff like that and if it's gonna take another 10 years to explain all that (to get through the new world) then people might stop watching/reading one piece. I mean their progress through the grand line has already been stifled enough already and it's good if Oda can just get them to Fishmen's Island as soon as possible.
I do think however I would like it better if one piece episodes had an ending at the end of every episode (like most sitcoms in the US) rather than being one continous arc that requires 50 episodes with battles taking more than 5 episodes to play out (which equates to about 30 minutes of real time in the OP world). I think an arc should just be 10 episodes or less.
-
"I'm gonna be a good person and go back to my family!"
I just took this as Oda showing that ID does what it's supposed to. Rehabilitate.

Oda is under no pressure to end the series. That's for certain. Oda has kicked up the pace but that's merely because he wants to get to the climax of, let's face it, the first half of his story. He's been working towards what he's about to start writing since 1997 so I can imagine he's anxious to get through the transition phase. But the past few chapters have been a bit sloppy, by OP standards.
Fear not about the length and how Oda will handle it. He's got the highest-selling manga in Japan. They're gonna let him do his job.
I just took this as Oda showing that ID does what it's supposed to. Rehabilitate.
Agreed. It totally means that as well.
But…
Oda has been EXTREMELY careful with his morals in this arc. Take how he dealt with Luffy/Magellan for example. If he let those criminals out, which he HAD to do, he needed a way to justify it for readers. Let's face it, he basically took THE most popular SBS question he would have been bugged with and took a clothes-hanger to it. (ouch)
That way Luffy remains 'pure'. Kinda annoying. On the other hand it gives me further hope that he's gonna take a dark [read: realistic] turn somewhere.
-
Yeah, so Oda hand waved away the moral implications of releasing the fodder, but damn it, I really hope he addresses the consequences of letting someone like Crocodile out, the civil war-orchestrating, city-destroying, superweapon-reviving, military state-creating Big Bad. It's going to be really hard to sweep that under the rug, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised if he does, since a mass-murderer is considered as one of the good guys too.
-

This comment reminded me, I don't think that's what Impel Down is supposed to do. From what we've seen, it seems like the place just tortures to death (or for life, depending on the will to live and all) it's prisoners. There's never been a mention of releasing pirates, and I don't think they do that.
So yeah, these prisoners of been rehabilitated, but I think it's more a combination of fear of Impel Down and their escape thanks to Luffy and co. On it's own, Impel Down rehabilitates no one.
And with that in mind, Impel Down really seems, to me at least, to have few redeeming factors. All the good they really do is prevent the level 6 guys from running loose. And even that seems a little insignificant when other pirates (Whitebeard for most of them, Luffy for Croc) apparently of beaten most of these level 6 guys already, meaning their are still worse pirates out there.

Does sarcasm mean nothing to you?
-
I don't know if anyone else brought this up, but CaptainHypersock (most of the credit for this theory) and I have thought about this:
Does there seem to have been a bit of foreshadowing straight from Luffy's mouth again? A while back, he said, "let's hope nobody dies." Though it was in reference to facing Kizaru, somebody eventually DID die, or at least, we can assume that Magellan wouldn't have let Mr. 2 live after what happened.
Sheesh, Luffy better watch his mouth or other things could happen! o_o
-
This is what's going to happen to Saldeath:
Blackbeard will be somehow cured of the poison (I'm not going to even try to guess how) and while looking around the prison he's going to run into Saldeath. He will then commence to eat him to fill his stomach for the impending fight against Magellan.

o.o I was pretty sure Saldeath was a human. CANNIBAL!!!

Wow…if someone was going to harp on me about missing sarcasm, I would've thought they'd have more of a sense of humor about it.
But really, everyone has been calling Impel Down this force of good since Hannybal got stomped. That and I really don't agree with Greg's comment on the escaped prisoners change of heart being a weak plot device. Despite it being a little convenient, I can believe people would turn around and live honest as opposed to getting their asses tortured everyday, especially after seeing how over the top Impel Down gets. These extra prisoners are just normal guys, unlike say Crocodile, they lack the skill, intelligence, and power to fight against the WG should they step out of line again.
Plus, I'm really starting to think that the line between good and evil in this arc isn't so ambiguous if you really think about Impel Down is, so I question the need to really justify what Luffy's doing right now. But I don't want to get into that since this post is getting to long. In short, wow.
-
It's about time they escaped Impel Down. Sadly Bon Clay didn't make it due to his unusual courageous effort. I just can't wait for the upcoming chapters to come out.
-
Unusual? He saved Luffy like 4 times by risking his own life. I'd say Bentham is the one of the most corageous (sp) people in all of One Piece.
-

Agreed. They were sent there the first time for a reason; I don't think they'd want to disturb the nest of hornets that is the world government a second time.
-
its the problem with every shounen Greg, OP would have to become a seinen to start changing in that direction…
lack of deaths
we are gona be good excuse and so on...thats shounen where good guys are good guys and bad guys are either pwned or become good guys

-

Sure I can.
It`s One Piece.
Useless background characters don`t die even when/if they intend to die.
So there`s no way in Impel Down Bentham is dead.
Even if Oda actually intended to make Magellan evil enough to kill him, which he has no intention of doing, he would be saved by the chaos that
s going to befall the prison as a result of BB and Shiryu
s actions.Bentham will be back in the story eventually. No tears shed here. Oda`s own fault too.

Hey, it's the intention that counts! I found it really moving. He WILL be dead for a few chapters, maybe even a couple hundred if he gets lucky.
-
i just thought of something maybe domino is sadi-chan but sadi is like her master name or some dominatrics shit like that.they look the same for it can be possible
-
He WILL be dead for a few chapters, maybe even a couple hundred if he gets lucky.
What?
He will be dead?
You mean, you are going to elude the truth under the false assumption that he
s dead even though he very obviously isn
t and Oda will clearly not kill him and that he will NOT die, but even so he`s dead?Wow.
Sometimes it`s embarrassing to be a fan of this series.
I can
t and won
t deny its the actions that count. But it means nothing since Oda won
t kill anyone. There simply is no danger. Everyone comes out scott free all the time. Unless you`re made of wood.
Hopefully this coming arc will change that.
-
Greg, if Bentham does indeed die I would like you to take a picture of your reaction and post it in the chapter thread, okay ? I agree that he probably won't, but the option's always open.

Hmmm… quick random question.... Was Croc wearing his hook inside ID?

Hmmm… aren't they suppose to remove all weapons from prisoners when entering ID? I wonder why they didnt remove his Hook...which is clearly a weapon... :ermm:

It's attached to his arm.
If it was attached… Im sure it can be detached... unless he was born with it... which is unlikely though:ermm:
Anyways....... This chapter kinda reminds me of this chapter... http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/215/18/

Well, I always figured he lost his hand before becoming a logia. Whether he can form a new one out of sand on a wound suffered before eating a devil fruit hasn't been addressed, but I doubt it. You have to assume that it can't be removed easily.
And uh yeah, that's the point.

O.O bringing a weapon inside a prison, specially a level 6 prisoner….isn't that too careless in the part of the ID staff? Removing it must be of highest priority if they want to preserve the goal's reputation....:ermm:
