Good lord why won’t this show die?
-
Dana Snyder is too powerful -
Not type my tempo, but I can see why twitter is enamored with it. -
Not my type either. Catchy tune though.
-
I enjoyed it plenty. About as much as any of the other higher quality indie pilots I've seen. Definitely would enjoy seeing more from it. I think I put this at a higher interest for me, alongside Epithet Erased.
I do somewhat doubt the potential longevity of the concept. Given the setting, you probably need to make a boosted population of recurring "NPC creations" if you want to keep it going for any length. Otherwise you're just going for a short-lived series with just enough "adventures" to satisfy giving the few characters some spotlights. Not exactly much ideas for character exploration from the pilot alone.
-
@Sano I'm mainly concerned about whether they're going to use the new animation style of Plantasm. I guess I'm biased, but I prefer the original "cheap" animation style, which I feel is part of the show's charm.

Because it only costs 60,000$ per episode, or 120,000 for a half hour.
Which is dirt cheap for a cartoon.
South Park costs about 300,000$ per episode. Anime is about 150,000 per episode of a normal show (and they do NOT make their money back, a few big hits and toys carry the industry) . Something like Avatar or Futurama costs 1 million per episode, and Arcane had a RIDICULOUS budget of 10 million per episode and took 6 years to make.
-
^ I get that but haven’t there been shows on this block that were also cheap to produce and had the dignity to not overstay their welcome by two decades?
-
@Time-Control-Magician Yes, but unlike ATHF they don't have as big a fanbase (like it or not).
-
I don't really recall if it was commented here before, but Captain Laserhawk is such an spectacular show! It has a smart use of sci-fi tropes, great animation, inclusive characters (LGBT and PWD included), and it's short! Besides Nimona, best content pushed by Netflix this year when it comes to animation (yep, one step ahead of the vampires imo).
-
AT actually has an audience and fanbase.
Their other cheap shows were SO cheap or offputting looking that people couldn't get past the art.
-
Space Ghost Coast to Coast - Had a really good run, most of which predated AS. No point in bringing it back now since C. Martin Croker is gone.
Brak Show - Proof that a show about Brak was too much of a good thing. Plus, the plots were pretty out there even by AS standards.
Sealab 2021 - Adam Reed's first project. Had a modestly successful run and then he made Frisky Dingo, which no one watched cause no one knew what the hell it was. Then he made Archer and the rest is history.
Harvey Birdman - Its manic humor probably threw a lot of people off, but it still had a decent run. Also, probably a bit higher on episode cost since all the animation was original.
12 oz. Mouse - Has a very small fanbase that swear the show has a really deep story going on, but...yeah, good luck trying to convince the average casual viewer.
Squidbillies - Somehow ran for 16 years. I don't get it either.Pretty much everything else was either expensive or a failed experiment that didn't gain an audience.

I mean so does Plan 9 from Outer Space and The Room but we know that doesn’t mitigate they’re terrible films. Much in the same way ATHF limited animation, unlikeable characters, and shoddy writing doesn’t not make it terrible or outputting.
If people like it hey. But if this series ever had the fortune of somehow being written off as a tax write off and all it’s content out of circulation I’d be okay with that.
-
I'm pretty sure most fans of The Room and Plan 9 like them ironically, whereas most fans of ATHF like it sincerely.

This honestly explains quite a bit of why I never got into Archer.
-
Possible but there are weirdos who like awful stuff sincerely too.

Sealab MIGHT have run longer, but they just lost all enthusiasm when Hary Goz died.
They were also running out of steam at that point since they'd long since cycled through all the original footage and were having to get really weird,
Harvey Birdman - Its manic humor probably threw a lot of people off, but it still had a decent run. Also, probably a bit higher on episode cost since all the animation was original.
Similarly, when Stephen Colbert started getting big, and very busy, and they had to write him out, they lost some enthusiasm. But yeah, the animation all being original instead of cheap stock \footage Space Ghost style probably hurt.

Eh. I'm not a fan of the show but I did see it endlessly when it was the only thing on. It was fine, and the writing was actually pretty funny ocassioanlly. And some of the characters were likeable.
I wouldn't choose to watch it or buy the dvds, but I wasn't insulted or annoyed by it like some of their other shows. Your mileage will vary.

Well, that's certainly your opinion, but there are people like me who genuinely enjoyed the show and thought it was consistently pretty funny (the first two seasons at least).

Trailer for the new season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is out.

I think we're all looking forward to it being dumped into theaters with minimal promotion and then being written off after a short stay on streaming services.

Anyone watching Scavengers Reign?
I just stumbled across this image yesterday and thought it looked cool and I liked the name, so decided to try it. And damn, the thing is so good! The season will be eight 24 min episodes, six already out and the last two scheduled for November 2nd. As I finished the sixth episode I was already wishing the season was at least twice as long because the atmosphere of the series is just so compelling. (EDIT: Actually, it's going to be 12 episodes. Good news!)
The plot is basically 2 women, 2 men and a robot stranded in a planet full or weird lifeforms trying to get back to their ship.
There was also some irony in the fact I watched it just after South Park Joins the Panderverse, because they put a chick on it, made her gay but failed completely in making it lame.

Wouldn’t have thought about it if you didn’t mention it.

I have zero faith in Warners being able to do anything correctly so long as Zaslav is in charge of it.
Well, intentionally anyway. Things like Barbenheimer were basically a fluke originally brought on by sheer pettiness.
-
To be fair Zaslev wasn’t running things at Warner when Space Jam New Legacy came out in 2021 or when Back In Action came out in 2003. If this movie flops, it flops the only thing to note is you’re not going to get some bullshit excuse of “people just aren’t into animated feature films anymore” ala the live action Green Lantern movie

OMG!!!
I miss Homestar Runner.
-
The first episode of Invincible Season 2 is great. It was a great follow up after the events at the end of Season 1.
-
Another season, another episode of Mark getting his ass handed to him.
-
Blue eye samurai is out now
-
@Nobodyman I can't help but question his alleged Invincible-ness.
-
Netflix put the first episode of Blue Eye Samurai up on youtube:
Pretty good first episode. Let's see if the rest of the season can match it.
-
Almost forgot to write: But lower decks ended S4 with a great two part episode.
-
Again, have my doubts that Warner Brothers can do anything right when it comes to any of its animated properties.

Looks like Coyote vs. Acme might be saved.

Everybody knows that WB are idiots and are taking the chance to take and do stuff. I personally wasn't interested in a live action Looney Tunes movie (Space Jam was more than enough), but when the movie is already fucking done chopping it makes no sense.
-
Thus, we take another step closer to becoming the Chris Pratt-verse.
-
Anymore than Mario, Chris Pratt was NOT meant to play Garfield.
-
Some Checkered Past news. Cow and Chicken is coming to Checkered Past on December 1st.
-
I've never played the card game, but this looks hilarious.
And Tom Ellis as Godcat really seems to fit. (I see the irony as apparently he used to play Lucifer)

Neither was anyone not named Lorenzo Music but after Bill Murray & Frank Welker here we are.
-
I think we can all agree that Bill Murray and Frank Welker sound better as Garfield than Chris Pratt.
-
Not if you like me grew up watching Garfield & Friends and couldn’t get used to either of them.
I was also under the impression no one liked Bill Murray’s Garfield because of his performance being “lazy”?
-
This does indeed look very relaxing to watch:
I also might get a cavity.

Well which would you rather have? Bill Murray or Chris Pratt?
-

Given how none of the newer Garfield stuff has been remotely good?
Neither
Not to mention when you factor in Murray’s documented shitty behavior on various sets I don’t know why anyone would prefer him anyway.
-
They should have cast Dave Coulier as Garfield just to see if the universe would collapse in on itself.
