There's nothing wrong with girls dressing up as girls. Sometimes its fun to just wear a fun outfit that is not really cosplay, but just something fun. I love throwing cute outfits together, myself and wearing them at cons, or just in general lol.

Better than guys dressing up as girls.
-
There's a big male lolita group that goes around here at the Dallas cons…
-
@ZeArmyOfHalen:
Better than guys dressing up as girls.
AMEN. .
-
I honestly don't mind guys dressing up as girls. I really don't. Some of them look FAR BETTER than girls dressing up as girls because most girls that dress up go overboard and look like jail bait skanks. I don't know anyone like that, but I've seen them at con shudders I know. Guys can be skanks too but in general I think if it's ok for girls to crossplay, it's ok for guys to crossplay n_n
-
i don`t know…
when a guy looks better than a girl in an outfit than..
a) the guy has many hormones
b) the cosplay is TOO good so that many poor guys will be tricked
c) this guy rly overdid it
d) wtf, on which cosplay a guy actually CAN look better?
maybe by kokoro,but than.... -

Well you're into Yaoi so of course you'd think its fine :ninja:
I don't care, really, as long as they're not pushing it. What I meant by my previous comment was the weirdos who dress up as sailor moon or some high school anime girl, now that's just disturbing (especially when the sailor moon cosplayer is morbidly obese - I've seen pictures, and God, it's disgusting
-
I don't know what's more horrifying, guys wearing skirts without shaving their legs or the ones that did… though visually the hairy legs are more disturbing.
-
I've got hairy, manly legs… though skirts do them no justice.
-
hairy legs come in handy when you're cosplaying a guy with hairy legs xDD

How can crossplay be someones PET PEEVE? SERIOUSLY??? I mean..I know people who crossplay, myself, my sis, and 99.9% of all my friends, including some guys I know ALL CROSSPLAY. I don't find ANYTHING wrong with it. Especially if their costumes are spot on accurate, there's no need to complain or just say they outright suck. I never get offended by a girl walking around as a guy, or vice-versa, I mean, how could I? I cosplay dudes myself and being a girl if I said I was offended by guys cosplaying girls I'd be the biggest most retarded hypocrite. I have a guy friend who crossplays as HOT HOT HOT women, and I know some others who crossplay women too, and I wish to GOD I could pull off women HALF as good as they do, AND I'M A WOMEN.
I cosplay guys with hairy legs ALL THE TIME, hello Sanji much?? xDD
And I think it's very HARDCORE when a guy shaves his legs for a female cosplay. I mean..that just gives them extra points for me.
-
I see nothing wrong with guys dressed in clothing that's a bit…different from their usual wardrobe. Take for instance, my awesome run-in with a yellow sundress at A-Kon 19 as an example:
!
Despite the farmer's tan, this was awesome to wear. Maybe it's just me being too comfortable with my sexuality and/or Ms Cricket's pleads to make me wear that, since Neko and her bought it if I remember correctly. I should've waltzed around in this in public. Also, having naturally hairless legs as a guy is awesome. :P

Just because you don't find anything wrong with it doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with it >_>
I can understand some of the moral and ethical problems with it even though I don't share them, but more than that, I agree that if you're trying to do a really grade A cosplay, being the wrong gender for a character (noticeably) even if you bind makes the cosplay look less professional, less right. My friend can't stand it when people who are short try to cosplay tall characters and when people who just LOOK like women cosplay men; it's one thing if you look the part but if you don't, that's 100% cool too, but I can really understand someone having a problem with it. I've cosplayed Sanji before but one of the biggest reasons I did it is because I naturally look a bit like Sanji and I grew the facial hair and everything. It's not anything anyone can help and it's certainly not anything that should ever prevent someone from cosplaying their favorite character but for snobs, yeah, it's very easy to understand why crossplaying is a serious pet peeve.

Okay, for starters, OH HELL NO YOU DIDN'T JUST GO THERE. Okay, I'm 5 ft tall. I am of the FEMALE GENDER. My sister is 5 ft tall, she is of the female gender too. I cosplay men, she cosplays men, MOST OF MY FRIENDS cosplay MEN. I have MEN friends who cosplay/dress as WOMEN example right above, you go Ho, you GO!! Your comments are OFFENSIVE to ME especially. I didn't want to open this can of worms, but YOU are the exception.
For STARTERS there is NOTHING wrong with me or ANYONE cosplaying a character we're not as tall as. I am by NO MEANS cosplaying trying to make a living from it, I'm not a professional, but I DAMN WELL make sure I LOOK GOOD. I know that many idiotically minded people prefer for you to look as good as the anime character, for starters being the right weight, the right height, but buddy, that just is NOT gonna happen 99% of the time. Cosplay is FOR FUN. I'll tell you one thing, my sister makes one of the best if not THE BEST Buggy's out there. No one can EVER try and convince me otherwise, and I know that Kaizoku-syn and Flexie BOTH make GREAT Buggy's, yet they're both guys, but you bet your bottom dollar my sis is JUST as good as them, and she's FIVE FOOT TALL AND HAS TITS AND A VAGINA.
You can hate loath barf puke do whatever you want when you see a short girl or a guy with hairy legs cosplaying your favorite character, but what you shouldn't do is get on a board full of mostly women cosplayers cosplaying men and insulting us. I don't go up to the 6 and a half foot tall Luffy and tell him he's too god damn tall, and he better damn well not tell me I'm too short to cosplay Sanji.
I also don't take testosterone, so I don't have my own facial hair. I wasn't born a man, but I'm sure not letting that stop me from cosplaying guys/who ever the HELL I want to.
And your friend is obviously a closeminded jackass of the kind I HATE who can't appreciate a costume just because of someones gender height, HELLO! I can't HELP that my parents weren't that tall, they weren't breeding JUST so I could be able to cosplay as ACCURATELY as possible. It's just rude and offensive.
Next time you want to come in here and say something like this, you'd better think long and hard. I'll never let up on my opinion of these things, I'm not competing, I'm cosplaying as characters I love, I don't care that I don't look EXACTLY like them, I get really excited when I do see someone who looks really good and really close to the character, but I never feel inferior like I suck just cause I'm not perfect. I hate how cosplay has been viewed like this, why can't people just appreciate it instead of finding everything gross and wrong with it? I have heavy friends that cosplay, skinny friends, short and tall friends. I never EVER get offended or angry at them for cosplaying whatever they feel like it.
That's how I feel about that, this is how I STRONGLY feel about that.
@ Hoffy = YOU MAKE A GREAT WOMEN HO!!! Also..I am jealous of your hairless legs ;_; They are quite beautiful if you don't mind me saying so <33
-
I can't even think of anything I could cosplay if I had to stick to gender and height.. I'm too tall for an umpa lumpa… and the wrong gender.. I'm too tall for most young females and too old for children D:
I think cosplay is more for fun than anything unless you're competing or trying to be the best. I just do it for fun xD

I was talking about cosplay snobs, who I sympathize with but don't necessarily agree with. I'm sorry you misunderstood me; I don't think there's anything wrong with cosplaying any character you want to regardless of who or what you are, if anything, I think it's a fantastic means of expression and a lot of fun. You were acting like it's unbelievable that anyone would have an opinion different than yours, which is a pet peeve of mine. This is a pet peeve thread, so I didn't find any problem in expressing some of the pet peeves I've seen from cosplay elitists. In group cosplays, my friends and I decide who does what character based on how much we look like a given character. This is just our way of doing things; we like to look as accurate as possible. I'm not allowed to cosplay short characters, being tall as I am, and that's fine with me because we all like to maintain as much relative accuracy as possible. That does not mean I think ANY less of people who don't do things my way, and I indeed said as much several times in my post. This does not make your costumes any less awesome, as so many of them are well-made and this does not make you a worse cosplayer AT ALL. People have different motivations and desires when it comes to cosplay; just as it peeves you that anyone could even begin to think like this, it peeves some cosplay fanatics when any detail is skipped out on, be it proportionality or gender. People are different; is that so hard to accept? I think the way you cosplay is great and what keeps the community alive, but hey, my "idiotically-minded" opinion obviously doesn't matter.
I'm glad you think so highly of me though; it's nice to know other people actually read a whole post before completely going off on a person and attacking their character.
-
i'm guilty of this myself… when I'm actually in a group with people, the first thing I think of is who the tallest person can cosplay that's tall xD
for example... I want to cosplay Inazuma... so I want a tall friend to cosplay Ivachan since the height would look great, me being a midget nearly and the friend being nearly 6 ft tall xD so yeah, height doesn't bother me or offend me, but sometimes it's fun to see if you can get people to cosplay that are taller than you to make stuff work like that.
however, it's not fun at all when you're really short and the person you're supposed to be cosplaying with is like a foot taller and you're two characters who are the same height... but you know it's really just for fun even though I know those details in cosplay bother people sometimes. I just thought of a few things I need to fix with a cosplay that were details I left out I'll fix you Buggy cuffs I PROMISE xD

MoonNeko,
I understand this is a sensitive issue for you, but I think you're getting angry at Palochka without justification. Please read his post again carefully. He mentioned his friend who has a problem with cosplays and height accuracy, but he didn't say he agreed with it. In fact, he said "it's one thing if you look the part but if you don't, that's 100% cool too."
I crossplay a lot, and I was not offended by anything in his post. In fact, I think he was trying to word things in a way that wouldn't be offensive. He was not attacking you personally, or comparing your cosplay to anyone else's, and I think it's unfortunate that you're so offended by what he said. You are both nice people who enjoy cosplay, and if you happen to have different perspectives on cosplay, then you can talk it out or not, but don't let someone else's opinion ruin your enjoyment. Offending people or attacking them just doesn't belong in a hobby that's about making things and having fun.
To contribute, here's my perspective on the whole crossplay thing. As a cosplayer, crossplaying means you're at a natural disadvantage. There's more to cover up or flatten or shave or adjust, and some things just aren't completely changeable. That's a fact, and I accept that. People can still crossplay, and I think there are varying degrees of "success" based on how much the work they've put in (on the makeup, hair, and the costume itself). Have some examples: someone who doesn't have the right hair, someone who didn't bind or shave, someone who doesn't have the right costume pieces. These are all inaccuracies, although some are more fixable than others. That doesn't mean someone with inaccuracies is a bad cosplayer or should stop cosplaying. I think we all should focus on the things we can work on, and not be bothered by other people's opinions on the things we can't change. I know there are a lot of people who can cosplay the same characters that I do, and maybe do a better job due to natural advantages like the right gender or right height, but that doesn't stop me from doing the best version that I can. And people respect that. I feel confident (most of the time) that I do do a good job because I make things the best I can, and feel good wearing them, and occasionally get compliments about it.
Incidentally, Japanese cosplayers are very concerned with having the right height, which is why you see so many of them wearing ridiculously tall platform shoes. To be honest, the height accuracy isn't really visible in the pictures, although I bet it's more apparent in person. Sometimes I think the shoes take away from the cosplay because they stick out so much; I'd rather see normal-size footwear and some camera perspective tricks instead. I suppose I don't really have a point here, but technically height IS one of the things you can change (within certain limits). I'm too tall for a lot of characters, but I can help that with a wide stance and slightly bent knees.
<edit>Well, there have been 3 replies since I started typing this, so I guess I'm a slow typer. But I think what I said is still pretty relevant to the conversation.</edit>

It was just a bad idea to post about such things, at least in my opinion, which obviously isn't shared by most people, probably only me. I get very VERY irritated when someone insults someone just cause they're short, by god I can't help but be partial to that, I AM short after all.
You can have a low opinion of me if you want to, I'm pretty sure a lot of others here do anyways for this reason or that since pretty much everything that I say offends someone in some way even if it's not intentional.
I'm glad you don't share these opinions then if that's what you claim, because thinking someone doesn't LOOK good enough just cause they're female and short is rude =_=; I can't stop people from thinking it sadly, but I'm sure not going to let it stop me from cosplaying the characters I want to, especially since we're planning a group of Admirals who are like the tallest things next to giants and Oars.
I still don't see how being short and cosplaying tall characters can be someones pet peeve, but I guess that's just me. I get MUCH more irritated by people who cosplay poorly and snub their nose at other people. This happened to me at a shitty small con here in Oklahoma. I was cosplaying Sanji, my sis was Usopp, our friend Charli was Zoro at the time and her friend Jenny was Luffy. I saw a like.. 6 and a half foot MONSTROUS guy cosplaying Sanji and I was like 'HI!!' and he looked at me, then looked up like he was compairing me to him and obviously I wasn't as good as him, or that's what I thought. I freakin' hate snobs =_=;

Reading his post more throughly helped, but at the same time the concept is just soo damn irritating. It makes me want to punch his friend in the face for his asinine opinions on cosplayers. I mean, I've seen your group Iroha, you guys ARE AMAZING!!!! You're all the perfect height, you're all around the same height so no one looks odd or strange, you're all great and wonderful, I love your Luffy and Nami soo soo much __ However, I know when someone looks at a group that consists of my sis, myself, our friends who are ALL taller than use be ti 3 inches to 14 inches, people look at us like we're retarded or something just cause there's mostly normal height people, then there's my sis and myself looking short as hell =_=; I KNOW people look at us that way, and it's already hard enough to try and get past that when you're cosplaying, you know people are already gonna look down at you no matter HOW accurate you are.
By the way I HATE that the Japanese wear those tall horribly tacky stupid looking platforms. I'd rather have accurate shoes than to be the right height, mainly for comfort reasons AND I don't want to break my ankles x_x; Being 5 ft tall even if I wear 6 inch platforms..I will STILL be short compared to the rest of the cosplay world, I just can't let it bother me. I DO know it bothers others though, it's a shame, but it does.
I try to bind the best I can, but I can't help it I have a womenly figure x_x; consisting of birthing hips, a bubble but, and C/D cups. I don't know if a lot of cosplayers on this forum have that problem, but I myself have a VERY hard time binding x_x And it will NEVER fail I will always have this shape, I can't help my height or my genes sadly as much as I wish I were 6 inches taller and not over weight =_=
-
I LOVE YOUR COSPLAY IROHA _ just had to say that because if I lived close enough to join your group I SO WOULD xD AAAAHHHHHH!!!
I also just wanted to add… I have a pair of clunky heels that I wore to give me height as Sarquiss to be taller than my sis. I can't walk in them.. I HATE THEM so WHY does anyone wear them by choice!? xD I'll just stick to something acurate from now on because honestly... shoes like that, you know, the RIDICULOUS ONES with the 8 inch heels... are kind of annoying though I mostly see it in the japanese cosplay xD I mean DEAR GOD... there are some really strange ones
-
Thanks guys, we work hard to look our best and be badass ;) I really hope you guys can come to a west coast con next year so we can all hang out and flood the con with OP cosplay. Incidentally a lot of people in my group are noticeably not the correct height for their cosplays but there's not a lot of point in sweating it. I can't imagine the guys even being able to walk around in platforms LOL. I stick to flat shoes myself.
Someday I'm going to write a long list of the Crazy Things I've Done For Cosplay. It's not just about crazy shoes. It's things like wearing shorts in January and 3 piece suits in July, wandering for miles at the con all day with no food breaks, sewing outside in the dark, driving across counties for supplies, countless things I can't remember or that even don't seem weird to me anymore because I'm so used to them. And yet when it's all over, I always think "never again!" and then a few months later "it wasn't that bad, I know what to avoid next time" and then a few months after that "hmmm this feeling of dread/exhaustion/insanity is oddly familar." :P
-
does this count as crossplay? XD
-
If that Maya is a man, then very yes.
-
I freakin' hate snobs =_=;
By the way I HATE that the Japanese wear those tall horribly tacky stupid looking platforms.
-
that Edgeworth and Phoenix are awesome xDD though I think that's more crossdressing than crossplay xD

Oh hey! You've returned! I was wondering when you'd pop up again.
Don't understand why there's a mirror, but I think I just found another person to add to my ignore list :D
-
that Edgeworth and Phoenix are awesome xDD though I think that's more crossdressing than crossplay xD
the guys don't actually dress like that in the case, but it's one big joke in the fandom, that it might as well have been in the game.

Height and cosplay XDD I've cosplayed characters much shorter then myself such as Ponyo and Trucy. No one's every bitched at me about it, even though especially as Trucy I tower over the Apollos XDDD My Papa is just barely taller then me. But it bothers me a bit, it makes me kinda meh towards girl cosplays because most of them are really short. Except for Robin I can do that, woohoo XD (just need to keep working out >_>)
I know an elitist, they aren't fun to be around in cosplay, that's for sure >_> She's seen beautifully crafted cosplays and called them shit because they were made out of what she deemed to be the wrong fabric…. yeah :P
But back to the height thing I don't really think that should be a factor in weither a cosplay passes or fails at all.
Though at times I'm thankful for my height because it lets me really get away with the crossplays, like Kaku.
And America is actually the same height as I am so it works even more mwahahaha, no one can say I am inaccurate on that part ;D
I'm REALLY nervous about doing Croc, though I have confidence that once I put on the make up and NOT ACT LIKE AMERICA/MYSELF XD I can do it, it just seems like it's one of those cosplays with high expectations. Not that anything is going to be half assed, but I hope the fact I'm actually a girl doesn't detract from it. I can get away with cosplaying cute guy characters like America and Kaku, but the manly man characters I have no idea... just gotta make sure that make-up makes my face look angular enough I guess XD
-
Lol the thread makes me chuckle. >_< you can't be 100% but it's good to be as close as possible to what your characteristics are. I mean I would love to do BB and Moria but hey PassByGuy has beaten me in that area and vice versa in some cosplays im sure he wants to do.
Cosplay pet-peeve of mine…L costumes...my god where is the creativity in that god-forsaken series. =D

you mean your Blackbeard cosplayed MORIA!??? are you guys trying to kill me from me screaming so loud and fangirling that I die? xDD I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH ;____;
and YES. GOD YES. I've seen some REALLY decent L's…but... it's because of the wig and they way they act ... otherwise... anyone with a white long sleeve shirt and jeans can cosplay L. I've seen L's that dont' even have black hair but you know it's L when theyr'e barefoot and slouching. xDD
no offense to L cosplayers xD it's just an easy cosplay xD
-
You have no idea how long it took me to hunt down the right looking pair of old jeans and a freakin long sleeve white shirt at the start of summer D: (lololololololololololol)
In all seriousness thats why it's overdone, it's an easy cosplay. Though I did it back before it got popular in the US… There were maybe 5 other Ls at A-Kon that year, compared to the 100+ after it exploded XD
-
I am ashamed. I cosplayed Mello from Deathnote. Hot topic pants… but we made the vest and I did have to get a damn wig and cowboy boots xDDD but yeah. Pretty closet cosplay.... xD I didn't even do the scar xDD
-
I did a closet cosplay of Matt… the same time I did L, no one recognized me except the other matts D: Not even the Mellos.
-
I understand how easy L is to cosplay, but I can't sew, so I like easy cosplays. And it did take some effort on my part. I didn't buy just ANY white shirt. I was really picky to choose one that looked exactly like the one in the anime. AND I don't wear jeans period. The only pair of jeans I own, are the ones I went out and bought for my L cosplay. and I actually die my hair black.
so for me, I feel I can justify cosplaying L, but ya, even I look down at some lazy ass people out there. who the hell dresses up as a blonde L. That's like doing chopper without his hat, or Usopp without his nose.
-
I did a closet cosplay of Matt… the same time I did L, no one recognized me except the other matts D: Not even the Mellos.
OH MAN that is EXACTLY how it was the first time we cosplayed Death Note xDD I cosplayed Raito, we were at a small small SMALL Oklahoma con, and there just HAPPENED to be ONE 'L' there. I was like 'WOO HOO!!' cause even though I hate/loath the character 'L', I did want to take pictures with one as Raito!! It was the only time I ever cosplayed him though xD But I know JUST what you mean, L is FAR too easy of a cosplay, yes there are other characters besides him that are easy, I do honestly get sick of people cosplaying him soo halfassedly =_=; I mean, there's nothing wrong with someone putting forth the actual effort in the costume, such as if they actually made their white shirt and jeans, dont' know why they would since they're easily found, but you know, if someone did do that, it would be pretty awesome.
I was just looking through the One Piece category on cosplay.com for the sheer hell of it since there's not a whole lot else to do here, and I was thinking about how important it is to get into character when cosplaying. That is SOOOO one of my biggest pet peeves for cosplay. It's also hard sometimes for me, if I am to cosplay a serious character, trying not to act like a vilinous jackass such as Bellamy/Spandam is pretty hard xD Cosplaying Iceburg was torture, he has li,ke..no personality outside of interacting with military officials, and Franky XDD Plus it's just more fun when you meet someone and they get into character REALLY easily. I HATE H ATE HATE when you're trying to get a picture of someone and you ask them to pose and they just stand there looking like an idiot. I'm like 'HELLO!!!' xDDD A friend of mine wasn't very familiar with the character she was doing, and she asked me how to pose. Ever since I showed her she's always posed soo wonderfully when cosplaying the character! I know some people can be shy..but..cosplaying has NOTHING to do with being shy. I used to be a shy person IMAGINE THAT XDDD thanks to being in ROTC and actually working in businesses and grocery stores has totally helped with that, and cosplay to an extent!
Just remember one of the most IMPORTANT things about cosplay : HAVE FUN!!
-
LOL I'm going to have fun cosplaying Iceburg, even though he was a bit milder when he was younger I'm still gonna go around going "I DONT WANNA" at everything and stick my finger up my nose and go "nmaa~". Though yeah that really is the only outgoing/fun aspect of his character XD
I just need to cosplay Croc while I'm sleepy, then the glaring will be up and I can stay serious. Ponyo is already America cosplaying Ponyo >_> And at the chess game, so was Kaku XDDDDDD When I'm nervous I break serious characters baaaaaad.

Oh man…seeing someone at ALA totally reminded me of an experience I had at AX last year, and that someone in our group had at Fanime.
So it's one thing if you have or are a cosplay stalker. If you keep a safe distance away, and just onlook, no harm no foul. However, it gets both annoying and kind of creepy when you decide to just nominate yourself to tag along with a cosplay group you don't even know other than who they're cosplaying as for a REALLY extended period of time. We spend a few minutes talking, and generally shooting the breeze and getting along. Time for me to go to a cosplay gathering. Oh, you happen to like that other anime/manga as well? Um...I guess you can tag along. Time for us to go to a panel now. You wanna come, too? Uh... <.<
Sometimes, people can't take a hint. Thankfully, I haven't had to take any drastic measures trying to separate myself from such people, but there were some close calls. coughFanimecough And no, it hasn't been anyone from the forums, at least, not to my knowledge. So far, AP Forum people along with their friends have been pretty cool.
So, don't be afraid to approach. If you wanna stalk, do it from a far away distance where we won't notice. However, there are panels, gatherings, and general meet-ups that we'd like to get to at a convention, so please excuse us for being prude and trying to get there on time.
-
I would SO STALK YOU GUYS. Well… glomp... and admire really xD I think I would be FAR too shy to really follow people ... unless I was friends with them or something xD
no but seriously that is annoying when someone just tags along when you don't want them there xD

My biggest pet peeve is when you do the same costume as some one else and they can not find the joy in liking the same character. Obviously I will look at the other persons costume and decide what I like or don't like. I will probably draw comparisons between it and my own. But I wouldn't disparage the other cosplayers effort by being a nasty bitch to them. I find I like One Piece cosplayers best because everyone is so excited by cosplay there is less time to be bitchy. Everyone is too caught up in congratulating each other on loving the OP so much and sharing the fandom.
I dislike when people see you in a costume they are wearing and immediately get all bent out of shape and rude. This has happened to me several times even when I try and engage the person by talking about the fandom. -
then they need to pick a more original character then, don't they.

That's a little tough when it comes to shonen series cosplay.
-
hey, youshi and her friend came up with great costumes that no one else was dressed up as. (norland and calgara) am I spelling that right?

I fully admit to being one of those who half-ass a cosplay (on several occasions), but it actually leads up to one of my pet peeves:
Group Peer Pressure: When everyone in your ConCrew loves a series, and is cosplaying it; they beg and whine and wheedle at you to join in, until you cave in just so you don't feel like the third wheel. Thus, you wind up in an embarrassing 23rd-hour costume of a character you like, but wouldn't cosplay.
This is made 3x worse when YOU want to do a group cosplay for once, but everyone else procrastinates like crazy, and doesn't get your series characters done at all in favour of thier choices.
Never again, dammit. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN.
Wigs with Tinsel in them/made of Tinsel: Jesus Murphy. Look, I know not everyone has access to internet shops, and has to settle for the halloween selection at the local Walmart. But unless you're cosplaying Jem or one of the Holograms, DON'T BUY THE TINSEL WIGS. Anything else but that, even those stupid neon ones are better than that.
Skankplayers: You know the ones, the girls aren't being any character, but who wear the absolute minimum amount of clothing they can get away with, because it's the con, and they figure they can get away with it. WRONG. And to make it worse, they're usually UNDER 18. AAAAGH.

Been a while since I've looked in here, so apologies if this has been bitched about:
-Know your character and dress accordingly! I'm tired of seeing characters like Perona and Bonney be 'cutified' so much. They are -not- -cute- girls! Perona is a bratty ass doll child. Go for the stuck up, soulless look..not the sweet lolita look. Bonney is a foul mannered, no sympathy woman. Stop making her look like she's going to pour chocolate into your soul. She got to be a supernova somehow and it wasn't by delegation!
-
Erm, that might be a little hard to pull off in pics. I mean, people want to look good in pictures, not unflattering. Also, I'm sure Bonney cosplayers don't want to always keep eating for their photos. Perona does have her cute stages, too, even though, yes, she's supposed to be bratty. Might be tough to emulate in photos.
Now, if you're talking about walking around the convention trying to be in character the whole time…that's pretty tough. Not everyone likes to role-play their cosplay. But if you're talking about a skit or performance where they're supposed to be in character, then yeah, they should.
! I think I'm just still pissed that Bonney and Law were the new Luffy cosplay last year. Their outfits were pretty simple, so they pretty much outnumbered most of the other cosplays. Also, with that many, it was tough trying to find the minute details to see a good one.

Amen to this. Though usually I am the one that ends up not getting the costume done ^^;;; (but 9/10, its money problems, not that I was lazy and didn't do it).
But it was really aggravating when we had a nice photoshoot planned and this guy couldn't be bothered to finish his costume when he assured us multiple times he was working on it… He actually never started it >_>

It is quite easy to pull off an air of snottery for photos. The Bonney cossers don't have to be eating 24/7 for poses. You know what you'll be cosplaying, so it shouldn't be hard to take a quick moment to think of an attitude of sorts..even while applying the makeup for the char. Hell, there's even tutorials and panels on posing alone!
Example of the cutifying vs sass:
!
Which one looks as if she's being pirate-y?
!
A simple pout vs a full pose.. which seems more like the character? -
I see your point. I guess, sometimes people don't wanna be in character. If you request them to when taking a picture, and they refuse, that'd be a pet peeve to me. I'd probably just fake taking the picture and walk away.
-
It would be one thing if it's at a convention and you're tired, that's understandable. But if you're in a photoshoot like most of these photos are, present yourself as what you're portraying.
-
I don't get too peeved at cosplayers who are photographed when they're walking around, sometimes they're dead on their feet XD Though even then you can make SOME effort, since you managed to stop what you're doing and pose for the picture anyway.
At shoots its just really annoying =_= Especially in the Hetalia group, where most of the characters are flamboyant and a little crazy. It takes one person in a fun/random shoot that just stands there and looks unamused to ruin a shot.
