Beyond Birthday was apparently L's rival for the spot of L in that one DN novel that was a prequel story. He's illustrated as looking similar to L but has red eyes.
I have seen a few people IRL who have said they were cosplaying BB, though only one was with an L, and also splattered in blood, so that it was very obvious to tell who they were.
People who don't really pose in character, though they make for bad pictures don't really get on my nerves too much because a lot of those people are the ones who get stopped in mid walk (like maybe on the way to a panel or the freakin bathroom) and really just stop then go. My con experience is totally not irked in any way if I get a few pictures of people who aren't very active but yeah, in character poses make for better pictures.
One thing I've noticed is people who rag on people who cosplay characters who are dressed in normal clothes. My friend cosplayed as Rose from Dr Who, and made the EXACT OUTFIT she wore from an episode and also carried around a prop to be more identifiable, and she told someone who she was dressed as and totally told her she was NOT cosplaying just because she was wearing normal clothes, like he was totally not cosplaying the bald guy on his badge that he was wearing just because he was bald.
I mean come freakin on, if you are dressed as the character you are freakin cosplaying. Now I know cosplaying as a casually dressed character is not impressive, but she did take a lot of time to get the outfit just right and pull together a prop to be as in character as possible. She is a crafted cosplayer, but it was a small in-town sci-fi con, it was raining and freaking cold, don't bitch at people wearing comfortable cosplays on days like that and call them lazy either.
I was also, the next day at this con, cosplaying America from Hetalia, which his outfit is WWII inspired, and this dork (not the same person) accused me of having a bad STEAMPUNK cosplay. Um… HELLO, learn your freakin history.
I really don't pay attention to it at conventions as I'm going and doing most of the time, but these are some things that bug me looking at pictures:
+Wigs. If you can't get it to work, at least make your own hair look nice and/or as close as you can get it. This doesn't mean be lazy and just use your own hair but if you have no other choice, just look the best you can, so even if its not 101% accurate, you still take a nice picture. Then you better go home and work on a wig for the next con >__>
+Cosplay in your physical means. This is not saying heavy-set people should not cosplay small characters, because I know a few personally who are PHENOMENAL cosplayers because their skills reek of badass and they make damn good outfits. Weight should never be a deterrent. You know, unless its like Yoko from Gurren Lagen. If there is midriff showing, you really need to be in shape for that, sorry >_> Just realize that sometimes you just don't have the body type for a sexy little girl in a tank top and shorts with the thong straps showing. There are so many phenominal outfits people of all shapes and sizes can make and do. Never let your size stop you from cosplaying but realize that there are things you just can't pull off, atleast without getting serious critisim and ridicule.
But for the love of sanity, I never want to see again a really large chick wearing fish net with a tube top underneath (that stops under the breasts), NO BRA, rolls hanging out AND in a VERY SHORT and VERY TIGHT black skirt with fishnet stockings, super tall heels, no make-up, and really frizzy, unbrushed hair with cat ears and a tail HOPPING AROUND attempting to look cute and beg for donations (for something official, not begging for handouts)... You will get none, because that was just HORRIFYING.
That's seriously just innapropriate, even for someone in shape, but not only that it was just... X_X Ahhh!
+Smell. I have very sensitive smell and I have literally walked next to someone who smelled like rotten milk. It is disgusting, shower plz.
Meh, my biggest peeve is really just sloppiness. I don't like sloppiness in general and especially in cosplay, especially with characters who are neat and trim. But there is no law stating cosplay must be your absolute best effort so it's a useless gripe. Oh well, it doesn't ruin or impact my con experience in anyway.
And cosplay snobs. I think as long as someone has put their hard work and best effort into something, even if its not phenomonal, they tried. Especialyl beginners. I don't like to berate cosplayers because it doesn't come easy to some people, and lots of people end up with mediocre outfits but they REALLY tried and they are PROUD of what they accomplished even if it wasn't 100% accurate, no one has the right to put them down for that.
I know a few perfectionists but they're more critical about themselves then anyone else, but I do know a downright snob who I want to punch in the face sometimes, unless it is over the top/gorgeous they usually has nothing positive to say. Or lets say someone made a VERY WELL crafted outfit (with like something out of pleather, it probably SHOULDN'T have been pleather, but it looks AWESOME), said person will only say how it should NOT be pleather and its HORRIBLE for being pleather... yeah even if it looks badass. Oh yeah there is a long rant on what things SHOULD NEVER BE MADE IN PLEATHER but, this was something that looked fine as it was.
Photographer peeves... I really don't like photographers that steal shoots from other photographers. That's all sorts of wrong. Other then that, I really haven't had a problem because I've really only worked with a couple of really good photographers and they are great people XD
