HUZZAH! Between this, FMA, and Naruto I think we could be seeing the next big trend in anime. Professional 'fansub' (yes, I'm aware of the oxymoron) releases.
I feel that it's how things should be done in the first place. It's far more efficient

This is the best news for a One Piece fan now crap fansubs like animecrazy can go suck it.
More like professional releases in crappy quality only available in the holy land while pissing on everyone in the rest of the world. Not that long ago I thought legal streaming might finally end the legal gray area of fansubs and bring us all into a civilized world in which we can all watch our anime legally. I couldn't have been more wrong. Legal streaming is the worst thing that's happened in the history of anime distribution. Honest fans who buy their anime and manga via all the legal means available who import dvd's from funimation are now denied to watch the show by that same company. They're going to kill fansubs and with that the international fan community will die. Amen
I also am compelled to give a big "WTF" to anybody in this thread that thought even for a second the current episodes would be released dubbed. Seriously. They've got hundreds of back-episodes to finish dubbing. Voice Actors need to sleep sometime. And poor Eric Vale. Dubbing Sanji AND writing the dub script. Give the guy a break.

Legal grey area…? Someone has clearly never heard of the Berne Convention and how international law takes over when a show isn't licensed in certain parts of the world. So long as it's copyrighted in Japan, distributing it without permission regardless of where you are in the world is ILLEGAL. There never was a grey area.
And it's the worst thing for whom? The people who actually break their backs making the show or the self entitled fans? Seriously, there ARE ways to change your computer's registered location so that you can sneak around the region locks. Why not try doing that instead of whining?
It's a moral gray area. Not a legal one.

16 characters of "And how!"
WOW! This is some crazy awesome news!
I tried the streaming today and it's also slow for me. I'm at work, so I just went a little ways into the episode, but it was damn choppy the way through though. It felt a bit strange watching it with the "authentic" subtitles, especially the intro. It was weird not having the moving hiragana for the music intro. hehe!
All in all, very nice news to have. I can't wait.
Yeah I mean seriously, Funimation dubbed pretty much dubbed the first 195 episodes in two years. And they giving great translations and great acting. Its nice to see them doing this for everyone that care about One Piece in the North America. And this give me a sigh relief to know that Funi will be doing the entire series.
I also want to say that Funimation is working their asses off for us to make One Piece prefect as it can be for us fans in the u.s. that to suffer with the old dub.

I felt the same way about Naruto when Viz started doing it. The openings just don't seem right without translations at the bottom and the weekly "note" from Dattebayo.

No denying it's illegal but I like many others around the world have supported the industry for years and what do we get back, the finger while america gets everything and Oh right: Proxy servers should have thought about that. Guess what they don't work on region-locked flash videos. I can get onto funimations video site but it won't let me play any of the videos and it's the same for every damn site that has these damn region-locks. Even better soon there won't be dvd's anymore only blu-ray with unbreakable regionlocks. Long live progress.

Let's be honest now. They're working their asses off because they got rights series with ten years worth of content to push out and if they don't get it out quickly it's going to lose value. I'm sure fan satisfaction is a happy bonus, but it is by no means their primary motive. They can't afford to sit on this stuff for a decade and not do anything with it.

tl;dr: We're an European group, as long as we don't get a C&D (which I'm sure we will but anyways), we won't stop subbing One Piece.
Well, I think it's wonderful news. I hope they catch up to the actual releases. Oh, the thought just occured to me that when I get my brother up to this point, I'll be able to switch back onto the FUNimation train. Huzzah!

Fantastic.
Yeah regarding that. http://tools.rosinstrument.com/cgi-proxy.htm
I haven't had any luck myself (only tried 3 times) but maybe someone will come across one redirect that works.

Good but I doubt you'll last long. :cwy:

Yeah, but that's what I also said.
Edit: I managed to watch threir streams with a program called Hotspot Shield. Working fine here.
It's pretty cool that Funimation is doing this, it's a move in the right direction for sure.
That said, I'll stick with the fansubs. Testing out ep 391 on the funimation site, it seems that they don't have the bandwidth speed to handle this, the video keeps having to buffer every 30 seconds or so. It downloads verrrry slowly.
I think they should host these HQ on Youtube or something. Youtube loads fast, at least.
I'll stick with the HD fansubs for now, better quality, and quicker downloads.
The law needs to be respected, in any case. FUNimation is only able to load the show for Americans at this time. That might change, but who knows.
Unless I'm missing something, these videos are free and have no ads. So, if anything, by watching fansubs we're just saving Funimation some bandwidth, and not costing them any money.

This has been a problem with Funi's Fullmetal Alchemist release too. I have to let it sit for quite a while before I play it.

They do have ads, actually. Right before the episode, for one.
@Yuugi's:

It just started off with the Toei logo for me. Anyways, One Piece has been licensed for years, but we still talk about and post fansubs on this forum. I don't see why this would change the policy on that.

Easy for you Americans to say. Us Europeans need our One Piece fix too.
I didn't have no ads on my watching of Funimation website watching of episode 391.
One Piece has been licensed for years, but those episodes were also years behind the current release, which is what most of us here watch. There was such a huge gap between what Funi was doing and what the fansubbers were doing that it didn't matter.
As of May 30… that gap will no longer exist.
What makes you think we want to break the law anymore than the rest of you. We're left with no choice. At least with fansubs everyone was in the same boat.
The question now is will Funi going to put up the subs of 144 and up now or they just going to wait until the dvds get caught up to the point before putting up those episodes. If so it going to be a while.
This is fucking awesome!
Also, I know I'm risking trouble by saying this, but to all the people bitching cause what this will do to ILLEGAL fansubs:
Go screw yourselves.
This is terrific news, and now we can give support to One Piece's licenser while seeing the brand new episodes AT THE SAME TIME. There's is no NEED for fansubbers now. Fansubbers first and foremost duty is to supply us with subs cause there's no other means, if no one else does it, the fans take it upon themselves. Well, now there is another means, and considering how much FUNi cares for One Piece the translation will be just as good as fansubs.
Oh ho, wait, scratch that, BETTER THAN FANSUBS. Because now we wont be stuck with stupid weeaboo terms like "nakama", and instead have a proper translation. The fansubbers have did their service, and if this professional subbing agreement ends, I'm sure they will hop right back into it. But for now, all you fansubbers, you can now take a well deserved break.
I DON'T LIVE IN AMERICA, SO HOW IS THIS FAIR TO ME?!
Well, I guess you will still have to pirate, but at the same time you wont. You can download the videos on FUNi's site with a Firefox add-on called DownloadHelper, I know I can. And considering FUNi is offering this video for free, I'm sure that's fine. They aren't making a lot of money for people just watching a 23 minute flash video, they are making it per hits to the page, which you'd still be doing to download the video. But if some of you can't go to the page, then FUNi will lose the hits but I'm sure others will gladly upload the file onto a site.
So, once again for all those of you bitching about this: Where do you get off?
TL;DR: No, if you wanna know what this says, you best read it.
I'm assuming it's accessable through the 'videos' section of the official site?

Oh man, you don't get it, do you? Go change your ip to european using proxy, and try to download the videos on FUNi's site with a Firefox add-on called DownloadHelper or whatever you want. This content is not available in your territory in your face.
and slow proxy is slow…

In one post you spit on the work of so many people… Take a walk out and breathe some fresh air...

Thank you very much Kubus, this works just dandy.

Yes, my apology. I added the line after proof-reading my post saying someone in America will most likely upload it to megaupload or something.
@MagneticMonkey:

I wasn't trying to spit on anyone. This is my opinion. Also, I don't see how "first and foremost duty" is "spitting".
Finally, an official website with streaming video with content available to Canadians! (unlike, for example, NBC) And it's the Funimation One Piece site to boot! This rocks!
I'm assuming it's accessable through the 'videos' section of the official site?
Yeppers! Right on the nail.
Yeah. I expected FUni to do this for the series sooner or later but damn ASAP is good!
Now all that's wanted but not needed is the movies.
hmmm.. seems like a good deal. Here's hoping that FUNI holds up their end of the bargain and stays with the series for the long haul.
But damn is the stream slow. I really hope they can find a way around that
Seems cool, IMO.
seems this is a miracle in some form to the fans
Like I said earlier, the stream is slow is because the new FMA: Brotherhood episode is out today. And you know how many big that series is and stuff.
I, for one, welcome our new (old) Funi overlords.
Brand relaunch USA? Well… brand push.
I love everyone freaking out from other countries. I remember back in the day when all the fansubbers thought that Funi had the show licensed and no one was fansubbing it. (Granted, everyone was on 56k back then and there was only 3 english One Piece fansites, but still...) Now they're all like "NO MAN, like... it's fascist communism! RAWR! BOOO! We're over here, you can't touch us!"
I feel old.
Big day for the U.S. One Piece fandom that I thought wouldn't come so soon.
Well, FUNimation did have the license to One Piece back then and it wasn't just one person reporting it either. At the time back in 2003 or so, they eventually commented saying they never had One Piece, but one of the representatives in the ToonZone "Ask a FUNimation Rep" thread eventually confirmed they did have it, though something happened. I believe this was the year before FUNimation (technically) reaquired One Piece. In anycase, whatever that something is, we'll probably never know and it really doesn't matter now.
So there was good reason for fansubbers not wanting to touch it.
But in anycase. Yeah, the typical attitude of fansubbers has greatly changed since then. Not only them, but I think the anime community in general has as well. Unfortunately, not for the better…
the something was probably 4kids but anyway this brand push has me so exicted. Hopefully FUNi will make the series 10x more strong then the previous attempt.
i hope they don't fuckup for the fansubs. Not everybody live in the USA :)
FINALLY; One Piece getting the treatment it deserves here in the US. Between this and the speed-push of the manga, OP is gonna come back in a big way.
Well, scratch what I said earlier. DownloadHelper can't download the actual episode. But there are still ways to get it, but more technical than I'm willing to bother with.
Also, did you guys here that Viz is jumping to Impel Down arc in Monthly Shonen Jump to accommodate what FUNi is doing? So One Piece is going to be legally up to date in both Anime and Manga to Japan, it seems.
Is a mod going to mirror this into the general Anime forum? O.o
Anyone know if this is on any other website than Funi's? Maybe another site'll be faster. Hopefully. And I think this is just awesome. Too bad VAs need rest or we might've been able to get dubbed episodes. Maybe not . How long does it take to dub an episode? Well, hopefully Funi keeps this up; this is why they're my favorite anime dubbing (and subbing) company. You don't see Viz doing this.
