Chapter 525 "Underwater Prison Impel Down" Discussion
-
Oh dear. I can barely wait.
-
That will end up in a lock. This topic shouldn't have been adressed here.
-
Oh yeah, aren't we getting a colorspread this week? Here's hoping it's something other than ''Straw Hats with Animals''.
-
Actually i'm waiting for a nice spread of all the Shs together. That would help me to survive the fact that theyÄre scattered now :)
-
We have the Vol. 52 cover and our last colorspread for that.
-
@Fire:
I can end this debate easily, guys:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/398/01/
Why is Mr. 4 in Seastone Handcuffs?
Considering that none of the nameless prisoners in that cell has any cuffs on at all I would imagine that they just slapped some on him because he was with other DF users or that he posed enough of a threat even without a DF to be cuffed.
-
@Crossword: i know :) I didn't miss the major disappointment in the color prediction thread :D
-
Oh yeah, aren't we getting a colorspread this week? Here's hoping it's something other than ''Straw Hats with Animals''.
Although I like those colorspreads, some variety wouldn't hurt. I mean… take a look at the 2 (correct me if I'm wrong : Baroque Works and Arlong and crew) colorspreads that were non-Strawhats. Those turned out to be awesome.
-
Chapter 52 also had Zeff, Krieg, Mihawk, and technically Sanji on its spread. Yeah, the only other one I can think of is the ''Vs. CP9'' one, if that counts. Yeah, some variety would be welcome.
-
Well Brennen wants it to be seastone everywhere so to please him we will have to assume the cuffs and bars are both made out of seastone…
So you are saying that he woulld be having a gap between his wrist and his hand and that the gap would be concealed by the seastone cuffs? Would he then be able to move his fingers? the seastone should nullify his powers to split at will and presumably remote controll his limbs right? But would that only be to float the limbs or would it also be ordenary muscle movements in the disconnected limbs? =S
And secondly wouldn't his hand just randomly fall out of the cuff or something? How would Buggy make it stay in when he is pushed around by not so gentle guards etc?He probably could slip out of the cuffs that way but Imo it would be a gamble.
Really doubt during his arrest before boarding the ship taking him to ID he was given seastone cuffs. DF users are only common to us the readers, not everybody in the OP world. Sea stone weaponry is extremely rare so I doubt even the cuffs are as common as some might think. I doubt they'd have more than a few dozen cuffs, even if he was caught among the SA 500 near HQ. Surely not 500 seastone cuffs, like brennex suggested.
Thats if they bothered to figure out who he was at all. Amongst all the chaos of the archipelago, I doubt they took time to book&identify all the pirates. Especially considering all the marines who were taken down on and off screen by the SN, any collateral damage Kizaru caused, on top of any ongoing search for Luffy, Law, and Kidd that may have still been going on.
As for your questions. Luffy was still rubber when he was trapped underwater by Arlong. Don't think being just near the cuffs are going to take away his ability. If they bothered to switch his cuffs for seastone ones upon arriving at SA, thats an easy time to get free.

1. I do not personally believe that he was caught at SA together with those 500 (499?). For some reason you use "even if he was caught among those 500" as though you are giving an explanation that works even if he wasn't. Your whole premise seems to be based on that he was. Wouldn't it be likely that he got seastone cuffs if some other Marine caught just a handfull or perhaps only Buggy??
2.I have no idea what you are referring to when you say being near seastone won't take away his ability.. Are you somehow saying that he would be sitting in the same room as a pair but that he wont be wearing them? =S And which part of his ability. the ability to split? to hover? to controll his limbs even when they are detatched? What? I'm having trouble following you.
Or where you talking about when they were switching cuffs on him? When everyone got their eyes on him and he is under heavy guarad?
Wouldn't that be kind of stupid to try to escape there?Sea stone weaponry is extremely rare so I doubt even the cuffs are as common as some might think.
There might be another reason for seastone weaponry being rare then the seastone itself being rare.
Seastones could just be really crappy as weapons. Presumably it weakens the structure of any alloy it's combined into and if left as it is its probably not that shatter resistant. (I'm guessing its not very shatter resistant as it was said to be as hard as diamond).Smokers Jute or whatever its called was only tipped with it.
-
Wow. Long two weeks. BF says Spoilers SHOULD come out tomorrow… here's hoping.
-
Wouldn't it be cool to have a thread just for the fake spoilers? It'd help pass the time
-
As for why Mr. 4 has seastone cuffs one, well wasn't it said that they are harder than diamond? Mr. 4 did swing a 4 ton bat around like it was nothing, so breaking out of regular handcuffs doesn't seem like something too far out of his reach. Probably just to make sure that this very dangerous criminal is completely restrained.
-
And my crusade continues!
Hardness=/=Toughness. Something that is hard is also often brittle. A diamond can easily be smashed by a hammer. The only effect the hardness of diamonds has is making it more difficult to scratching and/or cutting the diamond.
I'm not saying that Seastone has all the properties of diamonds.. but if it did, it would make pretty lousy restraints. -
If it was brittle though, it would seem weird that it would be used for jail cells and hand cuffs. Or am I missing something here?
I can understand that hardness and toughness do not equal the same thing, but in the case of the seastone we know that it is harder than diamond but if it was so brittle it wouldn't be very good at some of the things it's used for, right?
-
It's a fiction thing.
"Hard as diamond" is basically a license to make it however hard you want it to be.
-
Wouldn't it be cool to have a thread just for the fake spoilers? It'd help pass the time
yea we should have a section of unconfirmed/fake spoilers and we can bullshit around for however long till the real topic opens up.
but since they are unconfirmed we get a ban for making a topic or even mentioning them, it sucks.
-
Hardness=/=Toughness
Yeah. Unfortunately I do not think this was considered in all the uses it has had in movies, books, comics, and the like. As Nuzzie stated, within fiction it is just a way to say it is ridiculously strong.
-
hmmm I can't wait for the next chapter!!!!!!
-
Oh and regarding the Buggy Debacle and why that doesn't bother me as much as other things. It SEEMS like something Oda will directly address. In other words, it's such an absurdly large hole it seems ripe for extra info down the line. It's the little things that don't seem like they'll get addressed that bug me. Again, part of knowing Oda and his story flow.
But when he does address the little holes? Oh man…there's nothing more sweet.

Do you have more little story holes that were not in my list? To me this is a list of stuff that i and other people want to be resolved or stuff that needs further explanations.
this list:
[hide]- How did buggy escaped from his cell?
- How did the marine catch buggy?
- How did Buggy managed to come this far?
- How do the marines protect ID from sea kings (and the battleships that are anchored at ID)
- What is haki. What can haki really do?
- What is luffys plan to save ace. Did he managed to become stronger since the last haki burst?
- What will the other Shs learn from where they are now?
- How will they meet Luffy again (Well will nami ride on a special cloud…)
- What is the marines strategy to take down WB? (now i don't see any strategy at all. They are blind and scared)
- What will Garp do? (That would be a waste of manga pages if he just sat there to chit-chat about nothing serious)
- Does WB has a special division or is Marco the first mate?
- What will the shishis do in this war? (especially mihawk and BB)
- Who is Kuma? What had he said to rayleigh? Does he works with Dragon?
- Will hancock die in this war? This lovesickness and her quick changes are weird... Oda need to do something about it.
(maybe that she will inspire luffy if she begins to fight) - Where is rayleigh?
- Jimbei's connections to Fisher Tiger (if any)
- What happened to the other Supernovas? (especially Law and Kidd)
[/hide]
-
How were any of those little?
-
are those story holes??? I thought of them more as subjects yet to be answered, story holes are more subjects that dont make sense in the story, like for instance if Zoro were to make it to Impel Down on it's own without any explanation would be a story hole because of his bad direction this is allomst impossible for him, this is JUST an example and NOT what I think that will happen

Flandrian15, "Plothole" is the word you're looking for

Indeed, sorry about that, at least I am not talking about the littile holes Greg talked about. . .
But when he does address the little holes? Oh man…there's nothing more sweet.
I mean, com'on, that made me laugh really hard, thanks Greg
EDIT: Actually, I am still laughing

erm this is sorta off topic, but dont u guys reakon perona looks like misa amane from death note?

I think we established that a 100 chapters ago.

let her, she's goth-style typo… they all look the same

actually that would make total sense to me. Zoro would make it to Impel Down because of his bad sense of direction, i mean, where else would a lost pirate end up other than the place he doesn't want to be in the first place… the prison.
@magneticmonkey: i belive the reason why those sea kings aren't attacking impel down is because the entire prison is made of seastone. i don't think it was ever actually stated as 100% fact but there were enough hints in the past.
edit: i hope someone got a big bag of spoilers today, don't care if it's Santa or as BF disguised Santa or anyone else just give us a present pleeeease XD

here my response to your post:
And if i recall correctly momonga said something about he is feeling unwell about staying in the calm belt despite his battleship ability to repulse sea kings. Here the proof.
-
euh….
too easy..... :DThat's how I like it.
Do you have more little story holes that were not in my list? To me this is a list of stuff that i and other people want to be resolved or stuff that needs further explanations.
I don't know if those are plot-holes (or some of them) as so much they are pieces of information we have learned about. A plot-hole would be, say, after learning about Haki and its uses, WB knowing shit about Haki despite his VC knowing it and it being incredibly important and used by those around him. Not that this would ever be the case, but that's an example of one. Even the incidents I brought up these past few weeks aren't so much plot-HOLES as they are (sigh) weak writing. They make sense if you stretch out your suspension of rationality and belief.
Or if you're a normal person they just don't bother you and you enjoy the story.
Also Magnetic, regarding Sea Stone and ships. It doesn't repulse the sea monsters. It simply makes the ship appear like a stretch of water. A sea monster could still easily come straight the fuck up through his ship thinking it's open water. That's why it helps to have such high-class fighters onboard Marine ships that traverse such dangerous areas.

I meant it the way you said it. Sometimes i don't know how to explain stuff in english. I'm sorry
-
Oh okay, my bad then! I'll try to keep that in mind next time ;)
-
Yeah, the only things that repel Seakings are Sea Trains.
-
@magneticmonkey: well they fend off the few of the seakings who spot them with their 6+ battleships anchored at ID and the rest of their battlepower stationed there. what else would it be?
and besides, it's not like a seaking could terr down the walls of ID when they are made of seastone. no matter their uber giant size if they try to get a chunk they just end up losing their teeth…(p.s.: sag's doch bei gelegenheit nochmal auf deutsch, ganz genau weiss ich nämlich auch net was du eigentlich sagen wolltest. XD)
edit:
differenet topic: could any1 please explain to me, why the marines are always so damn out of form and ugly? for instance on momangas ship and at the front gate of ID. wouldn't they normally send capable marines or more representive men to go on a mission with a vice andmiral and to guard the outside of the most reknown prison in the world? (sue me, if this has been discussed before) -
- Will hancock die in this war? This lovesickness and her quick changes are weird… Oda need to do something about it.

You made me cry :cwy::unsure::sad::wassat::happy:
Anyway, I guess we have a lot more to know about Vegapunk and his discoveries about the DFs

oh, thank you greg. i'm so flattered it's almost embarrassing
-
I can't agree with you on that Ivotas. In my opinion you are reading to much into that statement. It's just an assumption by the captain and under normal circumstances they would have looked it up meaning any other ship (most likely the one that caught him) would have looked his mark up if they saw it.
That's the point, they would have to look it up. And why? Because Buggy is not noteworthy to be considered a memorable pirate to the Marines. Of course I'm not saying that they wouldn't deal with him under other circumstances, since he's a pirate after all. But the point is, he is small fry and therefore not worthy their attention. I'm amazed that I have to explain that since the statement itselfs says it.
-
Just a thought… any chance we'll be seeing the Nefertaris again?
Alabasta seemed a pretty influent country and Vivi knows Ace is Luffy's brother. I wonder if they will try to intervene in order to save his head... although it seems we already have too much characters at the same time right now. -

Whitebeard is on the warpath….he will flatten everything in his path until he gets back Ace, and has Blackbeard's head on a pike.
And anyway, they have no reason to intervene....It is not their problem in the slightest, nor would they have any real influence to stop it.
-
Ivotas wasn't your whole point that they wouldn't know anything about Buggy and thus wouldnt seastone cuff him?
Are you now saying that it's evident that they loked him up? Thus learning that he has a DF?

He will find his head on a pike instead, if he truly goes there by himself, rather fast aswell.

The reason you have to explain it is because your whole point was that they wouldn't put seastone cuffs on him because they didn't know who he is. If you are admitting that they would look him up (and learn he has a Devil's Fruit), then aren't you sort of throwing your own point out the window? Or are you suggesting that they would not put seastone cuffs on him – despite his having a Devil's Fruit -- simply because he is "small fry".
-
don't know if they go and seastone cuff everyone around… seastones don't grow on trees as far as i know...
still leaves buggy with his special escapee ability. -
And anyway, they have no reason to intervene….It is not their problem in the slightest, nor would they have any real influence to stop it.
Just like Alabasta wasn't Luffy's problem but he still "died" two times for it. Now Alabasta could show some gratitude.
But I am not saying the Nefertari would stop it, just they could make an appearance to try to do so. Just because Garp knows how Whitebeard thinks doesn't mean the whole world know.
-
The Nefertaris are two smart to get involved now. They know it is a pirate issue. They care too much about their own country and its people to get involved. If they were to show up i would be very disappointed in them
-
i need a spoiler… i'm dying here without my one piece ...

i already told you to breathe. You keep forgetting it. 2009 is coming and you know what you should change.
