I know people are really, really tired of this explanation, but I think it is just 'haki'.

To me, 'Haki' is a catchall term for any supernatural technique that needs training and a strong spirit. It is the base for Diable Jambe, those flying sword techniques, "Breath of All Things", Rokushiki, Life Returns, Mantra and other special non-DF superhuman abilities.

Obviously, the characters themselves do not think it is 'Haki'. To them, they are all different techniques. However, the amazons seem they all as 'Haki' and are very good at manipulating it in different ways.

I'm just pointing that this may be the explanation that many people (including me) required when Sanji just put his foot on fire with Diable Jambe. If Marygold uses matches to light fire, but her spirit to keep it alight without burning herself, maybe Sanji is doing the same when he uses friction to start Diable Jambe.

Hmm. I was thinking about this in the spoiler thread when I saw Sandersonia turn her hair into snakes. However, due to the Haki-overstimulation this forum has received I decided to keep my mouth shut. Now that this topic has been brought up I am going to toss out my crazy theory:

We know chopper uses a rumble ball to "disrupt" the Devil Fruit in his body and therefore attain multiple forms for three minutes. What if – and bare with me here -- what if Haki can allow a DF user to "disturb" the Devil Fruit in a similar way, allowing them to attain another form or variation of their Devil Fruit...? I mean from what we have seen Haki do, I would say it would at the least be believable. The question is whether or not this would be good writing or something; or whether or not it would--- well, whatever. What say you all to this?

I meant the way Sonia could shape her hair into snakes. I doubt it's haki since Kumadori did something similar, but I also doubt she knows Life-return.

When Chopper fought Kumadori, a lot of people started talking about him learning 'Life Returns' in order to not need Rumble Balls anymore. Later, when Lucci used Life Returns to change his man-beast form, that seemed to confirm that certain body control allow you to change the form of a Zoan.

Like I said in my last post, 'haki' seems (to me) like a catch-all term for any supernatural ability that requires training and a strong spirit. To people who learn abilities like Life Returns or Mantra, they may be treated like different thing, but to the Amazons, they may all be called 'Haki'.

I mean, isn't somewhat similar Zoro's ability to cut a man made of steel, while someone else uses 'Haki' to harm Luffy, who is made of rubber? Maybe Zoro's ability is also Haki, he just does not treat it like that, and he has not perfected it to the point that he can harm people like Kuma.

There was this post above that theorized that the two Sisters don't have anything on their backs, and that they were just bluffing so that Hancock doesn't stand out. I disagree though. From the way Marigold looked genuinely hesitant on page 17 to dislodge Luffy, I'm guessing there's something, rather than nothing.

Doubt it's wings though, otherwise Luffy wouldn't look so comfy.

Also, I must say Oda is still as unpredictable as ever. A week ago we were all so sure there was going to be some massive showdown between the Sisters and Luffy, since there was ZERO indication of them being anything other than hostile.

And in less than 18 pages, Oda turns it all around. My.

Maybe because we have not seen it being used in a long time. I think Nami's ability is some kind of awareness. I remember her reading the weather on Logue Town by noticing the air pressure declining, so it could be a scientific thing. But it also could be some form of 'Haki'… Who knows? It'll depend on what Oda will do with it, if anything.

At first, I was really upset about this all-powerful Haki thing that seemed to come out of nowhere in One Piece. But… looking back, things like this were around since Chapter 1:

• Shanks intimidating the Sea King to save Luffy;

• Zoro sensing the breath of all things to cut steel;

• Zoro's, T-Bone's and Mihawk's abilities to cut huge things and send their flying attacks (36-poung Cannon, etc.);

• Enel's and the Priests' Mantra

• Tekkai, Geppou and Shigan techniques;

• Lucci's Rokougan attack;

• Life Returns;

• Zoro's swords bending in Enies Lobby;

• Diable Jambe;

• The Asura Illusion;

• People harming Luffy with punches and blunt strikes.

Like I said before, they could all be different applications of Haki. Their users may not be aware of that; to them, they are all different techniques. They are not 'magical' powers, but trained techniques that require strong bodies and spirits. To the amazons, however, they would all be classified under 'Haki'.

When reading the spoilers I had wondered if perhaps the sisters had evolved their Zoan fruits to such a degree that they were able to transform specific parts of their body into snakes in addition to the standard transformations. But after reading the scanlations it seems their hair snakes are just hair shaped like snakes, somewhat akin to Kumadori's life return, but infused with haki to make it strong as steel.

We will continue with Luffy and Hancock, then some one will teach Luffy haki. and while he is training haki, the story will turn to the other SHs with a line say " somewhere on grandline, Calmbelt, or island 1-2 days ago"

Yeah that's typically how it is. From the Drum arc explanation, rumble balls are what gives Chopper the ability to do more forms than the typical 3 that all Zoans can do. But with Monster Point from eating 3 rumble balls shows that he can still achieve more forms. A mastering of Haki can basically either A) Give him even more forms or B) A way for him to control his transformations at will. There is going to be a point where Chopper is going to have some kinda control over his Monster Point form. Haki could be a means of him achieving that.

As for the other SHs. I don't really want to go into other arcs showing what they are doing individually. For starters its going to keep putting off the eventual reunion from happening anytime soon. Plus I would like to keep that a surprise for later. Ideally I wouldn't mind the 1 page short cover story Where are there now? idea that gives you an idea of what they are up too. But how I would like Oda to handle it is during the next arc after they are all back together. Fishman Island arc most likely? When they are fighting their respective opponents we get a small flashback of what they learned while they were seperated or where doing which leads into their perspective powerup which defeats their opponent.

Dear god this chapter is SO epic. I'm half surprised Oda made Luffy win this fight what with how he's been emphasizing haki lately. I figured he would take the Hunter x Hunter route and make this kind of an initiation for Luffy to learn about Haki. This was much better though.

I must admit with this chapter, I expected Luffy to end up exposing the thing on their back, not protecting it. That was the sudden shocker right here.

I remember not so long ago a topic complaining about how useless the Zoan DFs are, but Oda keeps finding new ways to make them more intereasting.

THIS CHAPTER IS AWESOME!

"the thing on your back and our fight has nothing to do with each other" - this is a great sentence! It shows how luffy thinks. back on drum he was defending a pirate flag of someone he even did not know. Now he is protecting a secret. And even if this secrect is kept by his enemys, luffy does not care. Honor is bigger than some wounds he could get by his doings.

about my prediction. half of the next chapter will be boa making peace with luffy and making a plan, how he leaves the island while making all of the other amazons think that boa won. maybe by giving him a boat and maybe those three stone-amazons as navigator or so. Half of the other chapter will be at shabondy, where everyone arrives.

I don't think anyone is going to teach luffy how to use haki. naruto needs a teacher, not luffy. forget haki, think of boobs. :w00t:

Didn't Chopper already mastered the second rumble ball?

Remember that in Shabondy he used the first one back at the auction house against the marines, then later he pulled off a perfect transformation to Arm Point while fighting the pacifista.

Maybe Oda just screwed up, or maybe it just the same thing as Luffy somehow managing to "turn off" Gear second after pulling off a Jet Cannon.
