Chapter 516 "Pirate Empress Boa Hancock" Discussion
-
-
Well, those who said Hancock wouldn't be beautiful, well, you couldn't be more wrong, she is gorgeous. I love her personality too, can't wait for her to meet Luffy, there's going to be some clash of personalities there, oh boy…
And Margaret keeps interacting with Luffy pretty nicely, hopefully she'll join, but who knows..the CS was pictures of all the crew from the time they joined so maybe theyre hinting something
-
But, my point is this. If a writer does not even waste the time to kill off no-name no-development characters, how is this same writer supposed to kill off a well-named, popular, developed character? I say "impossible" and Ace will not die. Of course, I think Oda's view has changed over the years because I don't think he was always afraid of killing off a character here or there.
True, true. Very true. But then this means that either Oda never kills off a character in the manga for any reason outside a flashback, or he starts killing people off so we can be prepared for the bomb to be dropped on Ace's excecution. That's why – if it happened (Ace dying) -- I won't feel too cheated about the other should-have-been's. The impact might be lessened but we will all most likely still have a heart attack, lose sleep, and cry over the chapter if/when it came out.
-
Yeah Boa was betrayed by a beloved man.
But don't you stumble when you read about the last unknown samurai. I thought this would be a holy moment…but it was just so mundane...even though quite hot.
-
Boa Hancock is….Medusa!!!!?!!??!
Anyways, good chapter

@Gecko:
Lol what movie was that from again?
Dumb and Dumber. Great Movie (if you like Jim Carrey that is).
-
I think Hancock and her sisters are freakishly tall characters. The middle child would look hella weird if she was normal size.
Edit: nevermind Boa is just normally tall, but her sisters are Aokiji+
-

Harry: swivels head staring at some chick
Harry: "Whoa! Look at the butt on that one!!"
Lloyd: "Yeah, he must work out."The middle child would look hella weird if she was normal size.
Her head is definitely strangely shaped and large.
-
I should just throw out the possibility regarding the war that WB pirates go to rescue Ace and they succeed with no important casualties and the WG lose big time like losing important ppl(an admiral maybe?). In this possibility where they lose it'd be much worse if the shichi participate, it'd make sense if they didn't tho.
the CS was pictures of all the crew from the time they joined so maybe theyre hinting something
Good point, although we may be looking to much in to it lol. I just liked the crew to be complete already. I already have it in mind somebody will join the crew before this arc is over, most likely Margret. Here's to me not being sorely disappointed.
-
@Gecko:
She probably hates men more.
yeah she probably does hate men. But I'm sure once she meets Luffy her opinion will change, as have others in the past after they met Luffy
-
I like Boa Hancock. She's a cocky beautiful woman. Too bad she might not be physically strong, not that it matters with her power. Seems like the reason she was chosen was from the fact that most people become infatuated with her or get turned into stone. I wonder how she would fair against a might against somebody that doesn't fall into her charm, or at least somebody like the vice admiral who knows how to negate her stone ability.
-
Sorry, but I really wanted to bring this back up again:[hide]
^^LMAO, she's one of their elite fighters! Chopper's girlfriend.[/hide]

If you consider all the titles she holds – among those titles being the Emperor(ess) of the Kuja, the Captain of her pirate crew, the Kuja being a society of warriors, and the crew consisting of the most elite fighters of the Kuja -- I would say she has a good chance of being highly capable in physical combat. Also, I doubt the women on her crew are likely to fall victim to her DF power.

Thanks for the raw link Deu$!
Another chapter filled with awesome character designs. I couldn't be happier.
-
I'm curious to what that Boa Anaconda could do.
-
i always though that the hawk belonged to boa

Dumb and Dumber, one of the greatest Jim Carrey comdies to date :)

Luffy walking on hands to get stronger. Anyone catch the reference?
Looks like Oda reads tons of manga at the same time as making one.
-
Luffy walking on hands to get stronger.
At least it's safe to say that Luffy is REALLY focused on surpassing Sent, Kiazru, and Kuma…which is what he needs to be focusing on (aside from finding his Nakama).
-
So, she did not try to kill him? Did you read the chapter? xD
I read the chapter and think that she didn’t try to kill him. She makes only one attack and the VA was servile because he doesn’t attempt to fight her and wait till her time is up. If Hancock intends to fight Momonga seriously he won’t have a change to win this fight in my opinion.
-
I read the chapter and agree with Yonkou#3 in this point. She didn’t try to kill him. So are you saying being turned in to stone is not death or that she did not try to turn Momonga in to stone and he just felt like stabbing himself in the hand?
-
She didn’t try to kill him.
I don't follow. She says that she is going to kill them, attacks them, and then is surprised that he survived. She then comments that the crew is down to one man, insinuating that there is nothing he can do anyways – implying she doesn't need to take further action. As I stated in the post you quoted me from my point had little to do with her trying to kill him, and more to with the fact that she didn't need to resort to cowardice. (IE: Holding Luffy as a barter for her position). The conditions had already been set: join for the war or lose title.
Luffy walking on hands to get stronger. Anyone catch the reference?
I did. Problem is I have been picking my brain trying to figure out if it was a reference, and to what manga it was referencing. I thought it was Fairy Tail, but I cannot find Natsu doing it anywhere. Maybe I overlooked a chapter or two though. What's it from??

The answer starts with an N and ends with an o. [hide]Naruto.
Remember Maito Gai forced himself to run around Konoha Village upside down on his hands because he lost in Rock-Paper-Scissors? Rock Lee asked him why he's doing that, and he replies that it's training.[/hide]
-
It's Might Gai from Naruto. He decides to walk on his hands throughout Konoha for losing to a Janken match to Kakashi.
edit: Beaten to it!

Sorry bad way of expressing. For sure she intends to kill all with her attack and turned to stone is for me death, too. But she does it because the men disgust her and Momonga obtained the right to live after he survived her technique. I saying if he don’t show respect to her she would kill him with another fighting style.
-
Boa Hancock seems cool. She has that stone power that works on perverted/weak men, and who knows how extensive her Haki fighting skills are. Her snake looks cool, proably not just a Bow. I noticed they are based on the gorgon sisters, and each one has an animal. A panther, a bird and a snake. All in all Hancock has some long legs :D
-
Naruto.
Ohhh. Jeez. I knew it was a long time ago, but I thought it was like the beginning of Fairy Tail or something.
-

look at how her crew reacts when she states she is beautiful.Plus, her attack was in the shape of a heart. Its reasonable to say that her DF powers are the reason why she is powerful.Plus, she probably says it's because of her beauty that she is able to use her powers. Look at how she states her beauty allows everybody to forgive her. Plus another reason is that the people on the Island do not seem to know of Devil fruits. That doesn't mean the people on her ship don't know, its just that the people on the island believe in order to be like her, beautiful, they have to be strong like her, and since she is strong, they believe strength is needed for beauty. Not a good explanation, but i hope i get my point across.
-
I'm very intrigued by the Vice Admiral. Slicing his way out of the Sea King from inside? He must be a real badass swordsman, and we haven't seen many of those (besides the two admirals' elemental swords) in the Marines.
-

After Margret just said earlier in the chap that you can imbue weapons with haki, no it's not reasonable to say that her DF powers are why she is powerful. It's very reasonable to think that she is the strongest haki user on the island tho….
-
Momonga says in the chapter he will wait because he doesn't want to go back empty handed. If you ask me, calling and reporting that she won't come is the same as returning and reporting that she won't come. Right?
What I mean is that he should contact the HQ to update them on the situation and tell them that he has given her two days to respond. I mean he was threatened by someone from one of the World Powers. That way if she does attack him, the others at Marine HQ would know of her betrayal. If I were in Momonga's position that's what I would do because it also gives him some protection from Boa Hancock. If she comes after him again he can just say 'I already told Marine HQ that I've made contact with you, even if you kill me now, your title will be stripped. So if you want to keep your title, your only choice is to answer your summons.'

This post is deleted!

So… that VA let himself being swallowed by the seaking only to sliced it up from the inside, did I got that right? Thats one badass way to fight! ^^
" This situation would be different. Public excecution. We are talking about having Ace's head chopped off. No tricks. No sleight of hand. Head…off. I don't think Oda would just be like, "Har-diddly-har!! His head is back on and he survived because...stuff!!"
Pipiru piru piru pipiru pi!!! Seriously everyone over the age of 10 and caring at least a bit about the plot must think some ppl. (Pel, Papaya…) would have been better of staying dead. The only exception from that rule must be Oda. :getlost:
I would like to belive that things have changed by now, but I just can't see no sign that would tell me so.Guess I should read less shonen more seinen. In the last Chapter of Hellsing some well developed Characters bit the dust again. It's not impossible.

@ultimateclima:
[1] Its reasonable to say that her DF powers are the reason why she is powerful. [2] Plus, she probably says it's because of her beauty that she is able to use her powers. [3] Look at how she states her beauty allows everybody to forgive her. [4] Plus another reason is that the people on the Island do not seem to know of Devil fruits. [5] That doesn't mean the people on her ship don't know, its just that the people on the island believe in order to be like her, beautiful, they have to be strong like her, and since she is strong, they believe strength is needed for beauty. [6] Not a good explanation, but i hope i get my point across.
- You are right, it is reasonable to say that. I suggest the alternative that she is powerful due to the whole "strength is beauty" that is among the Kuja. I feel that, unless she charmed the entire island constantly, she must be strong to hold on to her power. You mention this, so I am only suggesting that it is unlikely (IMO) that she constantly charms an entire island. Though I suppose it wouldn't be that hard to do as the leader.
- Perhaps, but this depends on the lack of Devil Fruit knowledge on the island theory, which is only speculation at this point.
- The sisters state this, but it could be like you said – they are charmed already. (Well, she finishes the statement. They start it.)
- This is speculation based intirely around their reaction to Luffy. Problem is, that reaction was the same as all their reactions to Luffy: "A man can do ______ !?" So (IMO) that was just for comical purposes.
- Again, this assumes she charms the entire island. Could be, but I choose to believe she is physically powerful in addition. Perhaps not the strongest, but combined with the DF…
- It was an excellent explaination, and I understood your post completely.
What I mean is that he should contact the HQ to update them on the situation and tell them that he has given her two days to respond.
I understood what you meant. What I am getting at though, is that calling and letting them know the situation could be the same as failure. He failed to bring her back – or he might fail to bring her back after he gives her some time to think on the offer. Either way, the WG most likely expects him to bring her back, so letting them know she might not come is the same as saying, "Hey, I might fail to bring her back – so if you don't hear from me..."
^^ Typically, that is about where a major Villain would kill his underling. Even suggesting failure usually gets you killed or looked down upon. I suppose that was where I was going. Either way, I just wanted to point out that at the very least this gives enough reason for it to not at all be considered a "plot hole".
@m00n:Pipiru piru piru pipiru pi!!!
Sorry. I don't know what this means. Is it the sound of picking Double Jeopardy?
@m00n:Guess I should read less shonen more seinen.
I tend to stray from seinen…I swear it is exactly like shonen, except that they can show blood. Given that, every single cut and wound sprays like Kill Bill, and all the gore is there for you to see for virtually the entire chapter…just in case you forgot what bone marrow and brain matter looked like.
-
Pell and Pagaya were honestly the only 2 people that I think should have remained dead. There was so much build up for them and their sacrifice that them surviving, while awesome, just detracted from the sacrifice. Ace would be a turning point for the manga in a lot of ways.
And also, Maugerite for Strawhat #9. She's just so cute. And she facefaulted this chapter. She honestly doesn't really have any big obligations to stay on Amazon Lily from what we've been shown so far.

Yeah I get the whole it makes him look weak thing, but in a military organization giving reports back to your superiors make sense. I think her admitting that her saying she lied would be worth reporting back. I just don't see him reporting 'I've met with Boa Hancock and have given her two days to respond to the summons.' as a statement of being weak. And I know what you're saying with the villain thing, but they sent him to retrieve somebody that they know is stronger. Or I believe she should be as a Shichibukai. I understand your point, but the situation just sums up to making a report back to the HQ. I can understand not putting everything into the story, I think this is just a minor thing that I'd like explained, like 'Den den mushi don't work on the calm belt.' or all are broke on the marine ship. I would just like a short mention of it. One panel would be fine.

Agreed.

Me too, but I'm also fine with her being this arc's Johnny/Yosaku/Vivi/Caroo/Conis/Paulie/Lola/etc. also. But if she will be a SH, Oda will develop her enough so that everyone will want her to join.
So… that VA let himself being swallowed by the seaking only to sliced it up from the inside, did I got that right? Thats one badass way to fight! ^^
Not only is he badass like that, but I just checked and his stache has gotten way bigger since the Buster Call! It's a macho stache now! He must've grown it out to prove his "manliness" after his failure, uh… yeah, I think I'm starting to sound like Oda in the SBS now.
-
heres my take on people wanting ace to die to give the story impact and drama:
i dont get it -_- (short and simple XD)
i also hope that there is a possibility that margrate joinsalso i dont think that the snake is boa's animal but the hawk seems more like her than the snake its self
-
Sorry. I don't know what this means. Is it the sound of picking Double Jeopardy?
Skip to 1:10 and watch at least till 1:45 :) Better even if you manage to get to 3:30 :D

Well some are others not. E.g. Tenjo Tenge or Ikkitousen are just Shonen with gore sure, but stuff like Ghost in the Shell or Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is out there too.

Ace dying would impact the story with that fact that
1: A major named character dying in the present, a good guy at that
2: Make the story a bit darker with the pirates failing to save their nakama. His connection to Luffy enhances it. It'd be the same as if Zoro died in TB. Granted, that would have sucked hardcore. Really.
-
I doubt Ace will die though, that would probably push Luffy to destroy the Navy or something, and maybe even invoke Dragon, and Garp along with WB & Luffy.
-
I'm not sure about Garp though. He was ready to kill Luffy back at Water 7.
-
i understand all that but to me personally:
i dont get it -_-
actually i always thought the straw hats might save him and he will join theIR crew if white beard dies but that is just a dream T-T (A WONDERFUL DREAM EXCEPT FOR WHITE BEARDS DEATH) -
If ace is killed, what will happen to his DF?
-
Luffy's crappy raft was hilarious. Can't wait for next week and Hancock's arrival on the island.
-
If ace is killed, what will happen to his DF?
It was somewhat implied by Oda in an SBS that when a Devil Fruit user dies that another fruit of that type will sprout wherever they come from to replace it.
-

yea but will the marines take the DF or what?
-
Wasn't really implied, more so people inturpreted it that way. I hope the fruit aren't reincarnated.
And if it did sprout up, possibly somewhere else, not right next to the dead body -__-
-
Omg Devil Fruit Are Made Out Of Human Blood Or Something
-
I guess Hancock may have the power of the "Mero Mero no Mi" (not sure if anyone said this). If Sanji were to ever face her…ever...this may be the chance for him to somehow overcome his weakness against women. Just maybe, he could find a way to defeat women without having to hurt them. It'd be "Mero Mero" Hancock Vs. "Mellorine" Sanji. XD
-
Great chapter,Boa Hancock is sexy good to see Vice Admiral Momonga again he's one of my favorites
