They claim that the ancient weapons must not be revived cause it's a great threat to the world. Fact is, they tried to get one of them…
They do not really fear the ancient weapons. That's the propaganda they spread...
It's more the knowledge glover had about the void century.

They have that great mighty prison which they are so proud of. There is no reason to kill anyone who researched the void century. They could have rot in a cell deep at level 6.
Just forget for a moment that luffy managed (had the luck) to escape. Back then till luffys break in impel down was safe!
My point is that guys like akainu or onigumo totally fit to the WG. They rule ruthlessly and have no problem putting their justice above the life of so many. Doflamingos speech sums it up.
