Is there a raw anywhere… if so, I'll translate it...
No, there isn't, not even on Share. Ah, well.
Bakuman

Real comic? Or just an elaborate add for Bakuman fooling us all?

Either way, it looks awesome.
-
I think it's an elaborate add, considering that it lists Eiji as the author on the bottom.
Either way, awesome artwork!!
-
I heard there was supposed to be a 50 page one-shot. I'll see if I can figure it out…
Maybe I misread something, there was some stuff about this in the ad in issue 20. Maybe it's just the poster. -
it's a poster, confirmed from the latest cover.
http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/tk1118/imgs/5/3/53ead893.JPG -
That's not a "latest cover" that's the Akamaru Jump cover. Though they do have a Toriko thing and something with those 6 mangas there… Gag comics or something to that effect.
-
heh, didn't notice the Akamaru Jump between Jump. :P
But still, under Eijis name it says poster (ポスター) so that's my take of it. -
Yeah, apparrently all the Jump stuff is just bonus things. Toriko is on the cover, but nothing else. Crow is just a poster. There's a chibi Bleach poster, and a couple little gag things for a few series', too. Though there aren't any chapters, they're all just from new authors.
-
The newest chapter is up on OneManga. Miyoshi takes the spotlight again this chapter between her bouncing boobs, revealed dream to be a writer, and the chu kiss (not to mention her bowling score average. Nice). Unfortunately, it seems we're seeing the first signs of a rift between Mashiro and Shujin, and Mashiro is going to be Eiji's assistant?!
What a twist!
-
Yay unexpected developments…
-
Hahaha, Shujin finally gave into his hormones. (and yes, Miyoshi steals the spotlight yet again)
And I can totally see her becoming the Japanese equivalent of a Harlequin Romance Novelist. Right up her alley. (and Mashiro was an idiot for refusing her help. Like he knows how girls think/act really.)
But man, this really is the story of the authors' life, huh? They probably had trouble synching as a team in the past too.
-

Ha ha ha! Yeah, his experience with Azuki pretty much proved that.
-
This series is FINALLY starting to gel into some pretty unique plotlines! YES!
The pacing is very nice and a lot actually happens each chapter now, too!Love how the series buckled and basically went "Okay…yeah. We're all staring @ Miyoshi's boobies.-blush-"
I also liked the line about shonen series not writing realistic females and using a male's IDEAL instead. LOL some truth as well as self satire there...Defintely think Miyoshi's having this cute face, super perfect body and throwing herself at the nerdy manga otaku/writer guy/Shujin is definitely a bit of male fantasy there. As cute as t he scene was when Shujin tells Miyo to be quiet, I wonder if someone that tempermental would've just cutely done it th e way she did?
I have no idea where this plot twist with Saiko is going and I'm really excited about that. This series surprised me for the first time since I started reading! Yay!
-
Miyoshi fan-service, giving her a goal, Saiko Plot twist, and Shujin gets his ass beat in bowling. What a great chapter.
These guys go great together. Wonder what Hikaru no Go would've been like if Tsugumi had written it? His writing is just perfect for Obata's facial expressions, hands down.

Read til Chapter 19 and man is this series too fucking sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
The 20% fans thing is quite interesting I must say, but that's because most Jump comics come out in anthology forms.
Still the character designs they made seemed pretty generic, too bad we could never read them to see if the series is interesting though. -
I think the reason that the pacing is a little slower is because Death Note was too rushed, and when push came to shove, the best character was killed, and it slightly (no offense to Near and Mello fans out there) lowered the quality of the series. I'm fine with them taking it a little easier on plot advancement with Bakuman. Plus, Death Note was a horror/mystery/action/thriller, this series is a Comedy/Slice of Life series. It's a whole different angle.
-
…20% fans thing??
And yeah. the slow pacing thing is deliberate, most definitely.
It took them awhile to hit the right notes and maintain it, but they finally got it down in recent chapters. Also, the story is finally going into depth with the most interesting part of making a manga, i.e. writer's block, the creative process, making use of people and events from your personal life experiences, etc. That stuff is WAY more interesting than reading about what character design types are best for which genres.
-
I wonder, did he accept the assistant job so he could pick up some tips from Eiji-to see what makes him 'tick'? ('keep your friends close and your enemies…') Or was it to sort of 'fuck you' to Shunjin?

Kinda looked like Saiko thought that Shujin had written him off because of Miyoshi and was angry about that. But we'll see where this is going.
-
Well that makes sense, was'nt really sure how to intepret it. However I doubt Saiko saw 'I need a break' as 'you're on your own, buddy' then again he may have jumped to conclusions.
But as you said before, we'll see.
-
It wouldn't have been the "I need to take a break" that made Saiko angry but the fact that Hattori told him that Shujin easily agreed to him becoming Eiji's assistant. I guess he would've expected Shujin to refuse.
-
checks posts since chapter 21
Nobody mentioned the cover of OP volume 2 on page 14. I know it's not the first allusion, but it still made me happy.
(Any chance Obata follows OP and put volume 2 in homage to Buggy's recent reappearance?) -
@Ao:
…20% fans thing??
Are we reading the same comic here?
If a comic series in Jump gets at least 2 readers out of 10, then the series is eligible for serialization, or so this series states. -
i felt a hard-on on miyoshi.. blush lol
the story become more interesting now. waiting for the next chapter that they will become eiji's assistant. -
shes not real…
-
wow… gonna need some ointment for that burn. ouch.
-
Glad to see I walked into 4th Grade…
Anyway, Saiko reminds me a lot of Shindo. He's a little immature, he yells and gets upset at the strangest things, and he has a sense of rivalry. Shujin seems a little more of the voice of reason.
-
I think the series is starting to drag a bit. I loved it so much but I'm slowly losing intrest

Did you start reading the series when it was first serialized, or did you you start reading when it was already a few chapters in? Chances are the first hooks of the story coupled with the fact that you had multiple chapters in a row to read are what made you feel extremely interested in the beginning. Now the week-to-week wait is a little harder because of the type of story.

-
Eh sorry then, it's just that that was the fastest and easiest way for me to remember it.
It's still an interesting statistic though. -
the last chapter was neat.
-
I learned about Bakuman from this very thread, I admit I was drawn in by the "created by Ohba/Obata" line, though I'm seriously thinking this is the best manga I've read in a long time, especially the first 10-15 chapters stand out for me, the most recent ones I don't like as much.
This is now the Jump series I'm most looking forwad to see after OP (and I'm a Bleach/Naruto/ES21/D.Gray-man/Hunter fan, that should tell you something)
-
Indeed agree completely with the above comment…
The problem for me is that as it is the story is focusing on their problems not on their development, even though their problems are part of their progress as it is I would wish to see them working on things with their heart beating.
Heroes and stories where heroes become average and kind of start to fade are going down hill, it is like we would have seen luffy getting his ass kicked over and over again, no instead we see luffy wooping some asses as soon as their is a rematch...
But those two just got their asses handed to them loads...Although it is clear thats what mangakas point is. He wants us to see that becoming a successful mangaka is hard as hell.
Though problem here is that at the same time we see some dude named Eiji who pwns with no limits so when the comparison is made our heroes start to suck in comparison to him...and thats not good.
Heroes should always be what they represent. Cool guys you identify yourself with or at least recognise as great, and this two in this moment are all but great. Its the same problem Naruto had. Sasuke was just so "damn cool" it annoyed the readers especially when Naruto was just pathetic...It seemed as if he stoped in development. Recently we can see Naruto gaining momentum and its not a coincident that Naruto is suddenly starting to pwn as wel...
People like pwning, people like scenes like Luffy on Jaya Island...Thats my view anyway
Overall though a very interestingmanga so I wish it will get better again

You have a point I did have a couple of chapters released when I started reading it.

Disagree completely, guy.
Naruto didnt look uncool because he was an underdog, he looked uncool because he was a selfish, obnoxious, unfunny underdog. Naruto pulled annoying pranks that were never really funny and he was unbalanced(somtimes hard working, other times extremely lazy and slackerish). Rock Lee is a total underdog but done well and probably the best character in the series and fans tend to like him best of the secondary characters.
People want to see characters that are at the disadvantage because it's more relatable. He's a loser or mediocre in a lot of situations, like most people, but he overcomes it and becomes something great, thus giving hope to and inspiring the reader.
The BADASS/PERFECT and cool rival is a standard shonen plot device. It's meant to give the average joesuke protagonist a hurdle to overcome and someone to keep inspiring him to "push it to the next level." It's up to the writer whether or not they can pull it off well or if they even use it at all. The point of Bakuman seems to be a shonen manga about making shonen manga, using shonen manga logic– CUTE girls fall into the heroes laps, they get their ass handed to them on their first outing and "train" to become stronger, etc.
Uptil now, the manga was just good enough to keep me reading, but nothing special. The concept was more interesting than the actual story, which was pretty cliche. Now things are getting more complex and unpredictable so it's starting to get much better. The series really needs to give us more reasons to CARE about their manga becoming a success besides "OMFGlulz to win the pretty girl!"

cool or great…but you have to see him as a great guy otherwise he is not really a hero

agreed, i am slowly losing interest as well.. probably won't follow it now and just get back to it after a while…
-
I think the series will get a good shot in the arm once the boys finally settle on a story they can publish.
Because up until now it's been all about how to get your work out there and coming up with premises, we haven't seen the ins and outs of keeping a story going once it's published. Things like weekly/monthly meetings with editors for each chapter, laying foreshadowing, story pacing, etc.
We've touched a little on character creation with Saiko and Shuujin/Miyoshi fighting over how to create a winning female character, so that's good. I just hope they do more, like creating villains/rivals and side-characters.
-
I don't know how you guys are losing interest in this when it has just barely passed the 20 chapter limit. If I was reading One Piece when it first came out and read it up to chapter 20 I would be bored as hell into it, but look how that turned out.
We have to be patient and wait for more chapters, the story hasn't even begun yet!
-
I have a question.
Will this ever be licensed by a North American company to be distributed in manga book form?
-

It's entirely possible, but only 21 chapters have been released thus far. I'm not even sure the first tankoban has been released in Japan yet. So, give it some time.

Oh, sorry, I thought that the manga had way more chapters than that xD.

I like your sig! The morning musume girls right? Yaguchi's my favorite one! _
I'm surprised ppl think the older chapters were so amazing. It was kinda bland up til now.
-
it's amazing how mediocre stuff like this gets so much praise and awesome series' like toriko get jackshit
-
Damn, this has become one of my favourites, can't wait for the anime and i bet this will go for a long time, can't wait. It'll probably go for like 500 chapters with a time-skip or two.
-

Toriko is up for an award and it's probably going to boot Bleach out of the BIG THREE soon. Toriko's the next big thing.
-
damn, he working for Eiji, i wonder whats going to happen next, whens next chapter out?
-
