King Kai is still dead btw.
-
I'm pretty sure the same moment at the start of the U6 Tournament that mentioned that they went to the DBs and wished Kaioshin and Kibito to split they also real quick revived the Elder Kaioshin.
Wait really? Could've sworn he was alive at the beginning of Super.
-
@Cyan:
King Kai is still dead btw.
Again, Android 16.
And, just before somebody brings up the robot thing:
Dragon! For my first wish, I want to be immortal!
YOUR WISH HAS BEEN GRANTED!
Dragon! For my second wish, fix my car!
THAT WISH IS BEYOND MY POWER TO GRANT.Wait really? Could've sworn he was alive at the beginning of Super.
The Super manga definitely has him alive in his first appearance. I'm pretty sure the anime does as well.

Maybe there's a seven-foot ginger bird watcher who hangs out in 17's park.

King Kai is still dead btw.
So are his jokes .

Wasn't he part of Vegeta's "wish back everyone that died this day [the tournament] except the really evil ones" wish?
Yes
!

I want Android 16 back as Goku's Cato; 16 helps him train by trying to murder him at random moments while occasionally pausing to help Chichi cook or clean.

New OP.

If I remember right, a guidebook stated that #8's also a cyborg actually.

Went the easier route and watched Battle of the Gods and Resurrection of F instead of watching the first two arcs.
I liked Battle of the Gods actually quite a bit - good Dragon Ball. Beerus and Whis are tons of fun. I love how well Beerus transitions between really fun and threatening. I like that it points out Goku's flaw of having pride in his own right. I like that Vegeta puts aside his pride. It's well animated, too and that's nice because Dragon Ball isn't exactly known for that; always the nice thing with the movies. I thought the Super Saiyan God thing was kind of dumb, but it also had a point and in the end didn't distract much.
Resurrection of F, though… I wasn't bored, but it felt like a bunch of good ideas executed poorly. I enjoyed the time Beerus and Whis had and once again, it had some well done animation (though some clumsy CG stood out this time around - Battle Of Gods had small moments that really didn't bother me, but some moments really stood out in Resurrection of F.
The biggest problem is that Freeza is treated like a joke. The fight
is constantly interrupted by casual disturbances and treated like an "aside", we know Freeza is going to be defeated by the end of the movie, but the movie doesn't even try to make Freeza feel like a true threat again - what's the point, then? I get the idea that he let revenge get to him, but that could've been done along with keeping him threatening at first.Again, nice exploration of Goku's and Vegeta's flaws, but how they came into play wasn't that well done. I thought it would lead to Goku's overconfidence and Vegeta's pride getting to them in their individual fights, so they'd have to team up together against Freeza, but Goku just got a pat on the back and a Deus Ex Machina fixed everything (I don't remember Whis' ability mentioned before usage). Good ideas, clumsy execution.
The great part of these movies is that they expanded on Vegeta's and Goku's characters and the character development (and potential for it) is very good and I actually feel like in general they expanded the universe as organically as they possibly could. The "gaining godhood" and fighting gods thing could also offer some fun - plenty of material to work with in a new series.

Really enjoyed this episode, but that weird focus on Napa of all people makes me think that there is a fan of DBA directed these scenes
I found it kinda strange that Tambourine (or whatever his name is) was focused on so much in the episode personally. Sure Tambourine killed Krillin, but that was ages ago. I know that powerlevels don't mean much of anything but Tambourine's was 340. compared to Early DBZ Krillin having one of 1,770 and by the end of the Freezer saga Krillin had a powerlevel of 75,000.
my point being that since Krillin is now hundreds of times stronger than Tambourine was it gave a bit too much focus on on character most people probably don't even remember. Cell and Freezer totally make sense for scaring the crap out of Krillin though.as for who is the most humilated jobber:
!
!
Even Gintoki won't let Yamcha be part of the jump system. -
Tambourine was his first assassin, he's the first one to kill a main character ever, and the difference between krillin's death and gohan's timeskip is from chapter 135 to 195, 60 chapters. A little more than a year.
-
Anyone else surprised that Beerus didn't have Them wish cell and frieza back just so he had a better chance of winning the tournament? Honestly to him it shouldn't have seemed like a bad idea, he is more than powerful enough to kill them should they step out of line. Additionally, seems like he would like the idea of their being more destructively strong fighters out there.
-
Thinking about it, I wonder if that wish with Porunga had broader effects than they expected. Would someone on another planet halfway across the galaxy be revived because they happened to die on that day? How would they react to that, seeing as they'd probably have no idea about the Dragon Balls?
-

I've seen this idea thrown around before - using villains to fight. After all, they're still part of the to-be-destroyed universe.
Freeza would be cool, but I guess RoF has kinda burnt people out on him. As for Cell, he might not have golden-tier power but he's still stronger than Krillin, Tienshinhan, 17, 18, and Roshi…...does Beerus even know he exists? His Earth-only threat was a drop in the bucket compared to Freeza's galactic empire.

I don't think that Beerus would have any idea who Cell is, and pretty much everyone on the team but Buu would have some serious issues with him (especially Gohan, Krillin, and the Androids). I feel like teamwork is a big part of it - given the size of the teams, there's probably going to be some group battles, and it doesn't seem like a good idea to work with someone who would gladly stab them in the back out of pure spite.
-

If Gero sampled Raditz, Cell'd have the ki of five Saiyans.
-
The tournament is bound to have some rules and conditions that put Goten and Trunks out of the short list, some other clausules to avoid revival, or the teamwork aspect might help to explain the earth focus, as the saiyans of U7 are so overwhelmly strong that going for synergy with their peers is better than going for the few aliens that are stronger than Gohan.

If memory serves, Whis can show scenes from the past from his staff, and though he wasn't a galaxy threat, you would think that the gods of a universe would notice when someone with a power level so much greater than frieza showed up.

Lol, I actually find it annoying that Freeza is more of a benchmark than Majin Buu to the deities.
-
None of them existed while Majin Buu's original run.

But they weren't around when Toriyama was writing Freeza, either. :^)

Having disapeared for 5 millions years, the gods needed a new benchmark. And since Freeza was galactic(known to more planets and populace) it's was easier for people to appreciate what they mean.

Shin's flashback was that far back?
-
I wonder how will they get Frost into making him be part of the tournament.
If Fem Broly is Cabbas sister, what are the chances she gets paired with Frost?
-

I can't traced back the chapter but I'm pretty sure it was. There was even the mention that man had barely started walking or something like that.

I feel that Toei will most likely want to do a
Goku & Vegeta VS Cabba & Fem Broly
Where Cabba fights Vegeta while Goku fights Fem Broly

I know I'm not the only one who's thinking this (well maybe I am), but I keep wondering how the matches will play out for the characters who aren't Saiyans (and maybe Buu). After all, since the Frieza Arc and beyond, this series has forever taught me that power levels are nonsensical gibberish and you'll always get a power boost through enough screaming and transformations. It would suck eggs to see Krillin, Tien and the rest not advance far at all in the Universal Tournament just because they don't grow stronger when tasting death on their tongue.
Maybe I'm overthinking this or generalizing it way too much, but it's been on my mind for a while now. I don't expect any of the rest of 'em to reach the finals or anything like that, that's obviously Goku's job (with Vegeta coming close). Seeing some new tricks from everyone else is all I wish (especially 17, Tien and Krillin).
-

Maybe he honestly isn't. I mean the only time I can remember Freeza being used as a benchmark by the supreme kai was when describing how powerful Buu is. I might even be remembering that wrong as well. I may have made it up in my head and attributed it to the supreme kai. Who knows. That said I would imagine that Buu (being on the level of the supreme kai) previously was the benchmark. Interestingly after Freeza's gold form reveal he is actually now more powerful than even Super Buu was. Kind of an irony if you think about it.
-
It would be nice if non Saiyans got a good showing. Or weren't the focus for a bit. They wind up just being used as hype fodder. It's getting annoying.
I saw this amusing fan video of if Piccolo had a power up and transform. I kinda liked it even though it still included minutes of screaming.

Next we need Platinum Cell.

I fully expect Goku and/or Vegeta to be the ones from U7 to make it far, as largely Super is the "Goku and Vegeta" show. Not that I dislike either, but the tournament just feels like a foregone conclusion.
Still, with the bloom of power levels, you take what you can get. I'd be happy if each of the non-Saiyans got at least one cool moment. After all, it's not a rule that every fighter in the other universes has to be Goku-Vegeta-tier.

Well you got a point there. Nowadays in DB, unless you're a timelord like Hit, a Saiyan in an alternate universe or a mirror of the Friezian race, other alien races don't seem to be absurdly strong in power levels.
Next we need Platinum Cell.

Totally biased -
Congrats to Nozawa.

Did he ever use it? I only recall stretchy arms. And Lord Slug using the giant form.

He used it against Goku. Goku then taunted him to get even bigger so he could jump into his mouth and grab the bottle that Kami was sealed in.

Aw, episode 60. The Goku never kissing Chichi joke is probably the dumbest joke with Goku so far. Yeah some of the math jokes are overdoing it, but that's really dumb. I think it's probably just a result of the writers just wanting to make fun of his obliviousness, but just not thinking about anything else.
Add to that, I knew Black was Zamasu from being spoiled at some point, but now actually having seen the story, I really wish he would've been a separate entity. Would've been much more interesting that way.
"Dark Goku" is as fanfiction as you can get, but I actually thought they executed the idea well, especially the beginning of the arc, his initial introduction and everything up to now.

Aahhh. DragonBall. That's why I didn't recall. Never saw more than a handful of episodes.

You have read the manga instead, and that is all that matters.
You did read it, right?

Goku probably got flanderized the most out of all characters in Dragonball, which is one of the things I dislike the most about Super.
And of course the fact that the show is only tolerable after 50 episodes or so. -

It was in the manga as well, blame Toriyama for it and not Toei.
Math jokes are usually bad, I didnt enjoy them in the last chapter of Gintama either.

DragonBall is already chintzy enough without a Kaiju battle being thrown in.

This was a guy who once didn't know how old he was nor what the concept of marriage entailed….he's not so much as oblivious so much as he's a moron in anything that doesn't has to do with fighting. And even that aspect of his character is prone in some rare instances to fucking up.

I actually don't mind Goku overall in Super, still think he's more endearing than annoying with the exception of some of these jokes. Case in point: his "don't give a damn" attitude with meeting the king of all universes. I love the king, too.
I've been enjoying Super in general. Started from the Universe 6 and 7 tournament arc, didn't bother with the movie arcs.
I really enjoyed the tournament. Thought would've been much better if Frost actually were a good guy willing to do bad things to save the people he's protecting. It does come down to Goku and Vegeta, but it's good Goku and Vegeta, plus Piccolo technically probabably could've blasted Frost out. I loved Piccolo's match with Frost and Vegeta vs. Magetta because they were a little more strategy based. Vegeta vs. Cabba was awesome character development (I especially loved how despite changing, Vegeta still felt like Vegeta) Goku vs. Hit was again, figuring out the opponent's fighting style, topped off by Super Saiyan (Blue) Kaioken. I actually really want to see Cabba and Hit again.
The most bored I've been is the purple jelly episodes, which is great. Beerus and Whis are a blast. I always thought Bulma was okay in Z, but she's been stepping it up. Out of the slice of life episodes, I think the Pan episode was my favorite and I actually really like how Future Trunks is being handled (tho the thing with mai is wierd, but hey, Future Mai is actually pretty cool - didn't expect to care at all for her).
-
The Fillers episodes after the Trunks Arc was miles better compared to the previous DBS filler episodes.
Some people are expecting Frost and Cabba to have a big role in the next arc.

But, he's married and has two children. Buu saga shows that he knows how that works. And he was shown to have clued up enough to bribe someone with porn.
