I HATED the fact that Robin was so weak in this movie
she was just overwhelmed by the sleep powder of that giant butterfly.

THE BUTTERFLIES![/hide]
Fucking butterflies and their sleep powder making the victim weak for several turns minutes!
Every single time I read someone groan about how it's 'another typical Nami gets kidnapped story' I can't help but snicker.
Something I have to add… Robin and Nami are feaking hot!!! (Nami a bit more)
Screw big head Boa!!!
lol if you saw hancock in movie quality with that art style you'd probably cream your pants.
Maybe it's nostalgia talking but I hate to say I enjoyed Movie 2 more. Not putting down Movie 10 and elevating Movie 2 but just saying I wasn't expecting that. Maybe I need to watch "Strong World" again.
Just watched it. I love it!!! It was great, I'd say Oda has done a good job of keeping track of each and everyone of the SH's character. The story maybe an ordinary rescue arc, but its not done in a cheesy way. All I can say is. Its a great One Piece movie. If you want a great story, go watch Inception (a great movie as well IMO), but if you like a great, light story filled with characters you love. Then this is the one
when did he say that?
It was one of the first scenes where Daft Green was being explained. Chopper said it to Zoro, and was basically calling him dumb. :V
manga is still much better
shiki who is level of lv6 beaten by luffy is not realistic by wb-wg war standards
anime movies still not there, they just fill the gaps
oda is a great comic writer but not a great movie script writer
she was just overwhelmed by the sleep powder of that giant butterfly.
Her biggest fight of the damn movie was that?! I guess this movie was really showcasing more of the "East Blue" team of the crew. Neither Franky nor Brooke got very good parts either. Though I did enjoy the fact that Brooke's "Hanauta Sanchou: Yahazu Giri" move got used a lot!

I think this was more of a "Hello New Word! Goodbye Grand Line" sort of thing. Luffy winning here shows that he's ready. Plus Shiki'd been sitting on his ass for 20 years in hiding, scheming, and apparently training a gorilla to dance with him, while the other Yonkou-level pirates were out on the open sea in the New World gaining more experience. Also remember that Croc, too, was a lvl 6 criminal - and Luffy pulverized him in Alabasta!
I sail my ship around this thread one time, drop flowers, pray and ring a bell 16 times for Corrado.
Who fell arguing against complete stupidity of which anyone who supports can know they were full well retardedly wrong about.
Anyone want to defend filler again?? Eh eh?
Hey some filler is pretty good, I don't expect it to be as good as canon but it can e light fun.
Too bad about Corrado.
Guess his words ignited too many feelings of hatred.
At least he took down Cymelion with him.
A worthy sacrifice.

But he's not ready.
Because you know, SA.
I don't know how to classify Movie 10 - Is it Filler or non-Filler? Since Oda had a hand in creating it, and may reference it in the storyline later, I'm gonna call it non-filler with a dash of filler elements. I guess it could have happened in the time between Thriller Bark and Shabondy, if you wanna give it a timeline.
Its complete filler until Oda says "This happened here".
Luffy hung out with Goku.
Oda helped make it so it's canon.
Finally saw this movie, and I hope it goes overseas so I can buy it. As I get older I feel more and more guilty for using torrents…
Anyway, I love Shiki's character after watching chapter 0. His comments about east blue all hint to deeper (though...obvious. But it feels "deeper" anyway) motivations then declaring war on the world. I forgot that in chapter 0 a storm supposedly stopped Shiki's crew. That's a nice touch. On top of it all the action was great. Nitpicks though...
! Shiki takes Chopper's attack, and while hurt is pretty much uninjured. What the fuck. I know it was "jobbing time" but that's pretty low, especially in a series where credible villains can take damage and still be a threat. Bah, who knows…maybe some bones were broken but Shiki just fought through the pain since badasses deal with that stuff all the time. That makes me feel better for some reason. Also, his anatomy has been awful ever since "Chopperman" occurred and Oda made him look like that in the normal story. In the near last scene his arms were like twigs and the joints connecting his arms to his body were microscopic. He's only going to get cuter from here, and I fear what kind of adorable monster he'll become.
! Robin didn't do much. I like that her "rescue scene" was brought on by poison rather then incompetence at least. I guess it's in her character to stay in the background, act only when she needs to, and otherwise let things work themselves out. Still, it's a little disturbing how this character is treated sometimes--she feels so objectified. I get the feeling that Oda ignored her the most for the sake of the rest of the crew.
! Lastly, the last words. I read Greg's review a while ago, and through no fault of his own they skewed my expectations. I somehow misremembered hearing that Shiki was the guy to say those "last words." So I was surprised to see them from Nami. As sweet as they were...why didn't Shiki react to them? I was hoping she got clever or something yet she pretty much made it obvious she wanted the crew to save her. I guess he could let a comment like that slide if he took the first part of the message seriously...but geez it's annoying that when the credits started the first thing I thought was "plot hole!" Doesn't wreck the movie though.
I don't see any problem with Shiki losing to Luffy, yeah he stayed in one place a little too long but with a little outside the box thinking it makes good enough sense. The action was great, there were nice twists at each turn, and we got to see a creatively done movie by the One Piece author. All in all, pretty satisfying.
I don't feel like reading through this whole thread, and I found nothing at OP wiki, so does anyone have a summary of Movie 10? I don't need to know the entire movie really. I'd just like to know if Luffy actually like defeats Shiki or whatever.
Edit: Ehh, nevermind really. Just saw the above post. I think I'll just go torrent it then since it seems to be out.

Hey, even Godzilla had trouble defeating Mothra!
So, this movie was badass and all… but I don't think worthy of the hype it received. Know what I'm saying? Sure, Oda directed it and everything, but it felt a bit rushed after the whole infiltration/mob scene.
But, that mafia scene was the baddest thing in the whole series. Canon or not. I think even surpassing the burning the flag/declaration of war on the World Government back at Enies Lobby.
Just saying.
Does anyone remember why Oda didn't include Shiki in the actual story?
Was it something Jump didn't let him to go ahead with? Or did he just feel that there was too much going on already to include another renowned pirate from Roger's time?
Every single time I read someone groan about how it's 'another typical Nami gets kidnapped story' I can't help but snicker.
Why exactly?
To say the 'rescue the damsel in distress' trope is overused, is the understatement of the millennium.
As entertaining as the movie was, the plot was more than a bit uninspired.

He did include Shiki in the actual story. Sengoku talks about him sometime during Impel Down. It's quite possible that Shiki will show up as an antagonist much later on in the series, and that Strong World is a movie like movie 9 that tells us what would have happened if he and Luffy met one another at this point instead of when they actually meet.

Once again, more excuses.

I recall reading somewhere that he wanted to mention him during the WB/Shanks conversation but didn't want to overload the fans with too much info.

To be honest, I feel that Oda would've been better off not having Shiki be mentioned in Impel Down at all, since as a result he's put himself in an awkward position regarding the canon of the movie. He's not the type to introduce something in the manga and then never follow up on it. If Shiki never appears again in the manga, then that's a significant plot thread that will be left dangling. If he does appear later down the line, it'll make the movie moot.
I can just see it:
Shiki: Hey Straw Hat, it's been a while! Remember the time I kidnapped the redhead and was a general dick to you guys? Oh those were the days.
Luffy: Nope.
…Actually, given Luffy's character, that may not be that far off the mark.
Why exactly?

I'm only defending it because it deserves defending, not because I think it's some 'amazing' film but Oda was extremely careful to make sure it was anything but a 'typical rescue' arc.
For one, Nami was constantly trying to escape.
Think back to the incident at Arlong Park, the Robin arc and Ace arc. All three times the subject didn't try to escape until they were actually freed. Yes, Ace fought back at one point but that was for Luffy's sake, not to escape.
From Nami's second scene in the film she was attempting escape and even until the end, she was plotting against Shiki. Not exactly a damsel in distress waving her handkerchief. (sorry Ace)
Furthermore Luffy blurts out exactly how Oda felt about the whole thing in the suit scene. They didn't come to 'rescue' her, she was just the first wave of attack.
Of course I'm fully aware that yes, Nami DID NEED rescuing, but Oda thought long and hard about how to set it up so that the motivation and 'emotion' involved in the characters decisions were as anything other than a rescue arc. And that's pretty goddamn cool.
Still not the best OP film.

No.

It would make more sense for the movie to take place after Marinefold and the crew reunites.
I'm usually pretty iffy on kidnapping plots and annoying girls, but Greg's post pretty much summed up why it didn't bother me here.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that when I saw that giant butterfly the first time.
It would make more sense for the movie to take place after Marinefold and the crew reunites.
No it wouldn't.
…...........
The anime is a director's cut of the manga.
@JERK:

…...........
I'd say something back but I honestly don't look forward to debating with you. I'd get my butt whooped.
Well, I can think of one big reason against the idea of the movie taking place after Marineford:
! Sengoku is still the Fleet Admiral. There are some other things too, but that's the biggest.
You've got me there.
That's why I said that it would make more sense, not complete sense. It would certainly help drown out a lot of the complaining about Shiki's defeat, and the whole '17' debate.
While I enjoyed the movie, I can't say that I am not a little disappointed.
I'm disappointed that Shiki doesn't seem to ever acknowledge the likeness between Luffy and Roger like nearly everyone else who knew him but Buggy has. Well, maybe he did at the end if you squint hard enough, but still.
@Zach:
For example, most of the events of the recent anime "Friend's Whereabouts" stories ended up being canon in the manga. Obviously Oda did just that.
Not only that, there are two streams of canons in the One Piece world: the manga canon and the anime canon. Both refer to their own story but both are based in a similar world, and on Oda's creation. However everything done in the anime has to be met with Oda's approval, and Oda on many occasions in his "Deep Thoughts" has commented on how much he loves the anime.
Just because you think the colors look different and a goat or two may show up, it doesn't make the anime for One Piece any less of Oda's vision. Everything important is still there, even if it's watered down a bit. It isn't perfectly "canon" but it is both a part of the main story and a part of it's own canon, which make it a very applicable way to enjoy the story that is One Piece.
Oh and Corrado, once you actually contribute something to the One Piece community, then maybe you can speak. Until then, please refrain from making an idiot out of yourself. Seriously man, get the fuck out.
Wow look at this teetering mountain of bullshit.
Also who cares about a fucking podcast.
The action was great, there were nice twists at each turn, and we got to see a creatively done movie by the One Piece author.
Wait, what?
When were there twists?
I'm not about to read pages and pages back so can anyone tell me what the hell happened with this Corrado?

I thought we were done with that. And shouldn't you keep a topic in their own respective thread?

The crux of it was that MMK(corrado) said that anime isn't canon and nothing in it should be treated as such. Cymellion(who has since been banned also) and zach tried to defend it to some degree or other for some reason.
mmk was rude as usual and got banned, though I thought zach was pretty damn pompous too.
I agree with mmk in that the anime is not canon in the slightest, but he was very abrasive so it turned into a huge flamefest.
Petition to rename firecroutch "Robocop".
zach was pretty damn pompous too
Just a little lol.
Cymelion to my eyes was every bit the passive agressive twat, which bothers me more anyway.
Zach and his I MAKE THE PODCAST qq !!!! was just more funny.

Didn't MMK just make the Retsudo account anyway? Or is that someone else?

Hey, I'm a fan of yours. I'm also completely willing to admit that that guy got the better of me and I got carried away with my responses.
And Firecrouch, the history of your name is literally a misspelling. It's not that infallible.
Thanks to zeph the u now instantly morphs into a t before I've finished reading it.
