To be honest…I really wasn´t thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat impressed...
Perhaps it was because of the hype and the spoiling :DBut still, it was a great movie! Even if the battle power of Shiki´s crew kinda annoyed me ( and that of Shiki himself as well - but it was a film, so yeah...).
What annoys me even more is that it´s written on opwikia that the movie is canon o.0
I mean, it´s only canon if it´s part of the story, not if it´s written by the author, right? And as far as I know it wasn´t confirmed by Oda or something (or did I miss something important?... perhaps we´ll get more info in the new databook.) -

The only problem with it being Canon is… everything...
There are too many X-factors that show that it can't fit in Anywhere.
1: Brook is there, yet it's Pre-Timeskip. It HAS to take place between Thriller Bark and Sabaody.2: Zoro does a lot in this movie, yet shows absolutely no visual signs of being injured at all, despite how deathly injured he was by Kuma. It makes no sense that he could fight one of the big bad's main henchmen in this movie, as well as take what Shiki dished out to him when he caught the whole crew, yet someone as minor as the Flying Fish Riders could cause him to falter, even LATER than this.
3: Sengoku mentions Shiki during the Impel Down Arc, after the only point that this movie could have taken place, yet makes absolutely no mention of his "Re-emergence" to the world. If Shiki had come back, and Sengoku knew, he would have said SOMETHING would he not? Especially if he didn't know Luffy had defeated him, that would mean Shiki was still alive, well, and at large. In fact, even though Luffy beat him, he's probably still alive out there.
It's not Canon. Shiki was just name-dropped and tied into the series proper as a teaser-thing for the movie.
Anyone claiming its Canon is assuming it is based on the fact that Oda wrote it alone.

Brook's maniacal laughter did it for me.
Although, I feel Robin was portrayed as too weak in this movie. She serves as little more than a damsel-in-distress role. I was really hoping that when all those goons popped out in this scene, that there would be mass back-breaking.

I watched this a couple of months ago… Honestly I almost couldn't believe it was written by Oda because while it's probably better than the other OP movies it just isn't anywhere near masterpiece like the manga. Feels more like a remake of Arlong/Skypiea Arcs than an original story. The Straw Hats' outfits are nice, though.
The gun scene above may be the best moment in the movie and still it feels so out of character for SHs to use any guns at all...

Thing is Oda aprently scratched the original "darker" story for this .
Biggest problem I had with the movie was that Shiki just seemed to be a much much bigger asshole then in Chapter/Episode 0 , or rather his character was barely defined at all in the movie .

Chapter 0 is a prequel/tie-in of the movie. OVA is just Chapter 0's anime adaptation. Each one can be enjoyed separately.

But if the movie took place after Thriller Bark and just before the meeting with Duval (or even Sabaody for that matter) then Zoro should still be visibly weakened from the events that took place there, but in the movie he didn't seem to be all that inhibited, physically. (And Sanji also wouldn't have mentioned that "he still hasn't recovered from his injuries during Thriller Bark" if Strong World was canon. Or at least, I don't think so…but whatever the case, it's kinda ridiculous trying to fit movies into the canon storyline anyhow since, as a previous poster said, it's quite impossible, unless Oda can pull off some retconning, lol...:P)
