@Badass:
But the episodes that aired in Australia were put onto youtube for us to see. They were uncut, and the acting was better than in Jaya and early Skypiea. To this day I still get chills hearing Tatum as Eneru saying "I am God". That scene was amazing dubbed.
Yes, but he was asking if the episodes that aired edited here were better uncut over there, so I was saying that they never aired the uncut version of Jaya and early Skypeia.
Wasn't even talking about the episodes Toonami never aired.
I planned out my OP merch strategy: Buy the rest of the speed ups & hopefully round about the time Vol 54 comes out, I'll be getting Season 3 First Voyage. Ironic that I would be starting the same way Funimation first showed the series 2 years ago. (of course I'll buy the other dvds as well, except for movie 8).
I had an opportunity to see my VA friend over this last weekend. I asked him if he knew anything about Strong World being dubbed. He said he didn't know but he did say the poster for it was in the One Piece room… interesting no?
Well despite how many times Funi has said they have no plans to work on any of the films anytime soon Toei is promoting Strong World a hell of a lot lately.

Yeah, basically what I'm gonna do is buy up to volume 54 of the manga as they come out, get back to collecting the DVDs with Season 3, and buy the first two Season 2 sets sometime inbetween (I already have the Drum Island arc and I'm going to let movie 8 fill in the Alabasta arc until I have the opportunity to purchase those three sets).

Okay maybe I WILL get it to support funi, despite the fact that 'd be getting the Alabasta dvds anyway but we'll see.
Bad sales of Movie 8 is actually why Australia isn't getting any of the Season Sets.
Movie 8 didn't sell well at all, so Madman thought that was an indication of how the series proper would sell if they released it.

Don't remind me D;
I tried starting a thread on their website saying that Australians still want the DVD's but was filled with people who just kept on saying that MM would lose money so that failed.

Because they don't want to saturate the market with one piece releases and they have more the enough to be getting on with dubbing the series?
They know 8 is a recap movie. I doubt it factors in greatly to whether they release the other movies or not.
Though I imagine they've probably gotten so far ahead with the series now, dubbing a movie may be seen as being worth it.

Don't kid yourself. Even if they know it's a recap movie, how it sells depends greatly on what they license. These guys hardly know the difference between the filler and canon material, so you can't assume what they know and don't know. It all depends on numbers.

…Yes I can, seeing how 4kids and themselves have both dubbed arabasta.
They'd had to have had full frontal lobotomies not to be able to join the dots.

You can't compare two different dubs in a case like this. First of all, the market was for an entirely different audience for 4Kids. There's no way you can even begin to compare sale records for their DVD releases to a company like Funimation.

What are you talking about. You cast doubt on funi's ability to recognise that this was a recap movie and I replied by saying that what the movie was recapping had already been dubbed in english twice - once by funi, which pretty much makes it impossible for them to not understand that it was a recap movie.

You'd be amazed at how much FUNi has gotten done in under one year.
Yet they're still pumping out the releases at a fast pace. I'm sure FUNi has plenty of time to do movies.
And yes, I think it was even stated before that they're going to go by Movie 8's sales to decide if they want to do other movies or not.
I'm sure I remember them saying that they wanted to focus on the series when asked about movies fairly recently. Can't remember where that was from though.
I know they're in a good position now to do a movie, if they've kept up the same pace they were one when they started they should be close to dubbing Thriller Bark by now, hence my previous comment.
But they're already as far ahead as it is. And I assume it shouldn't take too long to dub a movie.
Okay maybe I WILL get it to support funi, despite the fact that 'd be getting the Alabasta dvds anyway but we'll see.
I've said this before, but Movie 8, especially with Funi's english dub, is pretty good. I even got it on Blu-ray, and I was quite impressed with it. So much so, that when/if Funi releases DVD and Blu-ray versions of OP movies, I'm definitely getting Blu-ray. I mean, theatrical movies really are the proper medium to get anime on Blu-ray, imo (well, maybe some short series or OVAs can be exceptions). I still need to catch up with the Season 2 releases, I still haven't gotten 4th, 5th, and 6th voyage yet.

I'm…agreeing with you.
I also enjoyed movie 8 quit a bit
Since Skypiea is just around the corner, how many voyages do you guys think will make up season 3 and were would you consider the beginning of season 4?

Glad to see some people who liked it despite its flaws.
This has already been asked, and I want to say that it was estimated to be around 5 sets for Jaya/Skypiea alone. I'm not sure if it's been confirmed if G-8 is still gonna be a part of the same season (which I think it should) or be a part of Season 4.
!
I think that's the most probably way they will do it.

I know they know it is a recap movie. What I am saying is what our basic argument was about - how the sales on this movie do in fact affect their decision to purchase the license for other movies. I'm not saying they are stupid or anything, I am just saying that from a business point of view, sales always play a role in what happens. Even if they want to get more movies, it will be harder if the sales on movie 8 aren't that good.
Point being - people need to buy movie 8 whether they like it or not if they expect to see the movies and specials done.
I see, that looks like a good setup for each season.
If they plan to put a split between Skypiea/G8 and Foxy (considering they get the widescreen eps for 207+), they'll have to have 5 sets, 3 with 13 eps and 2 with 12. However, in between the 13-ep Davy Back arc and the 13-ep post Enies arc, they could have 7 sets, 2 of which with 14 eps and all the rest with 13.
So, for Season Four, essentially:
First: 207-219 (13)
Second: 220-232 (13)
Third: 233-245 (13)
Fourth: 246-258 (13)
Fifth: 259-271 (13)
Sixth: 272-284 (13)
Seventh: 285-298 (14)
Eighth: 299-312 (14)
Nineth: 313-325 (13)
119 episodes in one 'season'.
Season Five:
First: 326-339 (13)
Second: 340-353 (14)
Third: 354-367 (14)
Fourth: 368-381 (14)
Season Six:
First: 382-394 (13)
Second: 395-407
Third: 408-421 (14)
Fourth: 422-436 (14)
Fifth: 437-449 (13)
Sixth: Up through end of Impel Down~
Whee.

ARRRGh! I HATE TOEI! If they had decided not to force funi to release that movie australia would be having dvds right now.

Don't count on FUNimation receiving widescreen versions.
No foreign dubbers so far got widescreen masters for anything, even for episodes that actually DID have a widescreen DVD version. Even as far as Sabaody, they were still getting cropped 4:3 masters.
I don't think Toei could possibly be dumb enough to pull that !@#$ in North America. That'd be a deal breaker for a ton of people.

Anyone who watches OP just to have it in HD widescreen obviously isn't a One Piece fan. And I don't know what people that would be a "deal breaker" for. Just because it might be a deal breaker for you doesn't mean everyone's going to stop buying the DVDs.
It's all about having the episode as it was intended to be viewed. Whether from 1-206 or 207+ fans are going to want the proper master on their home video release. FUNimation is, at least, receiving 16:9 masters for their simulcast episodes, so who knows what will happen (espicially with Toei).

Have you met the anime community?
Scratch that, have you met the ONE PIECE anime community?
This is not a group of people that take cuts to material graciously. More over, North America in general is a wide screen society. I don't think they even make full screen versions of DVDs anymore.
So yeah, take a society that in general has shifted to wide screen in pretty much everything from TVs to computer monitors to phones.
Then take a subculture of that society that is more than a little sensitive about imported shows getting cut for any reason.
Then tell those people that their next DVD release is going to crop off a third of the picture… yeah, you're going to lose sales.
You remember what happened when Funi tried that stunt with the DBZ sets. That was a smaller crop on a show that had been released once before. And that was for the sake of making it widescreen.
The fan lashback they got from that would be nothing compared to what would happen if their first run of One Piece was cropped to 4:3.
So far, The Simulcast has been playing in Widescreen, meaning Toei has been sending them Widescreen masters.
I have confidence that'll carry over to the earlier WS Eps too.
As much as I love One Piece and would still buy the DVD's even without the wide-screen masters, I'd really love to have them due to the fact that I got this huge wide-screen monitor, and I'd like to have it put to use.
The fact that the Simulcast is in widescreen gives me some confidence at least.
A widescreen release would certainly be a good thing. There's no real excuse why they wouldn't make the DVDs widescreen.

This time I will have to agree with you.
I cannot say what I'd do if that happens, but at least I'm also confident we will be getting these in widescreen.
I would still buy them.
Same, but I'd be somewhat disappointed. :\
I for one will still buy it, I never really did care of wide-screen or cropped pan and scan. So long as I get the episodes, that's all that really matters to me.

Admit it, you just hate Nami and want to see her written out of the show completely! :cwy:
I'm on to you, bub.

Oh wow, everyone except Nami must be having an affair with the camera man since all the guys are the ones getting screen-time and ass-shots…such a Dub Piece moment.
I always thought going from widescreen to fullscreen meant condensing, but I didn't realize the picture would be cut off. That's even worse.
Are those actual comparison shots from the Analog and Digital broadcasts, or did he cut them just to be funny?
