Pfft. Have fouls EVER been an issue in ES21? I doubt we'd start seeing them now.
Eyeshield 21 Discussion

I believe a penalty was called on the final play of the game with Seibu involving Monta and (forgot his ame).
-
Ok that was bad but the chapter itself was great. Can't wait a week for another…
-
The question I have is if the whole field goal is going to be milked out through the entire chapter. I don't know how many chapters are left, and I know that this is the final game, but really, I would like to have 1 or 2 post game chapters about what happened to the team after the Christmas Bowl.
-
I don't know how many chapters are left, but I would think we'd get at least one chapter of wrap-up.
Even if it isn't run in SJ, I would hope that the last tankoubon would have some omake chapters.
-
The epic battle is over guys.
RAW:http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42540Really the best sport manga I've ever read(Yea,I never read Slam Dunk,so shut up).
-
Such a beautiful chapter…sure the Teikoku game was screwy, but this chapter really brought home everything that ES21 was about from day one. Now that the game is over, we probably are going to get a couple chapters for epilogue before we get "The End".
BTW: Murata released two more Jump posters since this is the 2000th issue...and somehow they're more fun than the first two.
-
That's not the end to Eyeshield 21, i know more is coming
-
Here's the scanlation. Great stuff.
-
! Musashi is the fuckin' man
-
This chapter had me smiling for about three minutes straight. I was so happy even though I knew it was going to happen. Can't wait for next week.
-
The script states Yamato commenting about "him and Sena on a dream team"…personally I hope he means "he'll try to recruit him for Teikoku leading to him probably declining so it will lead to the series end"...and not "he recruits Sena for an all-Japan team to play yet another game", mostly cause this chapter just makes everything Deimon did from chp. 1 on complete and I really want to see ES21 end on top.
-
Nope. IT'S DREAM TEAM TIME!!!!!
-
I really want it to continue but it would seem a bit farfetched if they start playing in the US. Or if anything i would rather see them compete in the Japanese NFL first. Cause selling football to america is like selling soil to a tree.
BUT YAY for Musashi!!!!
-
Hmm it said on the last page "Heading towards a higher goal…" or something like that..Does that mean theres gonna be one more tournament before actually ending??
If this manga's gonna continue, than it'll be a great chance to show the other members evolving since it didn't show their development much in the teikoku match.. Like what happened to Kakei's blocking technique he taught to one of the three trio..?
-
Let's not forget, who might Mr. Hiruma be? Maybe he's an ace coach or something. Can you see it now? Two Hiruma on one team? They'll need it if the American teams are above the Japanese ones.
-
It could still just be "Yamato invites Sena to join Teikoku next year"…as much as everyone wants this "dream team taking on the world", the main goal of the series achieved: they won the Christmas Bowl and the story is essentially over outside knowing who his dad is. As successful as ES21 has been, shouldn't it just go out on top?
-
Great to see that they won the Christmas Ball :),Is the series still continuing or is next week's chapter the final one?
-
Its Time For A World Tournament!!
Panther Makes His Comeback!!
Meet The American Eyeshield 21!!
Hiruma's Dad Is Gar! -

As long as it gets proper closure and doesn't end with something like Jumonji becoming captain with Taki becoming his vice captain and Sena in New York about to play flag football against some posers bullying a kid trying to play football I don't care.
-
Jumonji being the captain isn't a bad thing…but I doubt they'll go the PoT route.
-
That's was a joke:ninja:.
-
For some reason i didn't feel much suspense from the field goal even though the chapters as a whole was awesome.
…was it just me here that noticed Koutaros "teleportation" from and after the kick?
-
I was hoping that Musashi's kick would last 1 more chapter lol i want more drama/flashbacks etc, It cud be that Yamato actually said that because they're gonna play as teammates w/ all japan allstars lol fighting w/ other countries oh well theories
-

Bitter over PoT much? (and yeah, I think Juumonji would be an awesome captain)
What a great chapter. 60 YARD MAGNUM FTW!!!!
It doesn't seem like it's over yet, though? I mean, I'd be really sad over ES21 ending, but I do hope it doesn't jump the shark. And wherever this "higher plane" is, Hiruma had better go along. Seriously, he's the whole series, if he doesn't go then what's the point?
-
Well, y'know tPoT is getting a Manga sequel…
-
Eyeshield 21 will not end with this game. I will stake my soul on the event of a world tournament. How else will Panther get his story resolution?
Absolute Prediction:
DEIMON DEVILBATS VS THE NASA SHUTTLES
Lightspeed vs Zero Gravity.
Which Cosmic Force will Prevail? -
Perfectly possible. Although considering the level NASA is at, I'm betting they won't meet at the finals.
If they do have a World Tournament, though, I do worry about the "manga football physics" becoming more broken than they already are. Right now they work (and are awesome), but they could very well easily become trite and boring.
@Yuugi's:

Yeah, NOW, but when that last chapter originally came out everybody and their grandma was pissed.
-
Because Ryôma left Japan for America? I figured he'd come back for the next season or something.
-

Wasn't the fact that the coach willingly acknowledged him and cleared the air over why he singled him out his story resolution?
Yeah, NOW, but when that last chapter originally came out everybody and their grandma was pissed.
Considering a number of things that were wrong with the ending can you blame them?
-
Logically it can be done, but I realy don't want it to happen. The initial goal was simple: to help Hiruma and Kurita get to the Christmas Bowl in their only season, which they did and they won. Sena pretty much has proved himself to everyone in Japan and America…heck, he even was considered for a professional NFL team around the time of the Death March and he's way better than that now! The only reason I see Inagaki and Murata keeping ES21 going as is now is simple: they're the only sports manga left in Jump and they don't want to let them go. (particularly considering that compared to other shonen mags like Sunday and Magazine, Jump really hasn't had any successful sports series outside this and PoT in a while) It probably will still be cool...but after some of the fail in the Teikoku game (which still had amazing moments but a lot of weeks were head-scratchers or just "there"), I really don't know if or why they should keep it going.
-
@Yuugi's:
Because Ryôma left Japan for America? I figured he'd come back for the next season or something.
It was a lot of things, not just Ryouma leaving. It was really rushed and gave us little to no conclusion on things (not to mention poor Momo got passed over for Captain!). But I guess now that we know a sequel is on the way, the things left unresolved will be resolved (I hope).
-
Rushed? Yeah, a little.
Wasn't Kaidô made Captain? He's basically Tezuka, however with a short fuse, so it sort of makes sense. Momo would make a good Vice-Captain to act as a leisan (screwed up that one) between the bueacracy and the team members.
-
Much as I love Eyeshield 21, I kinda hope it ends here, with an epilogue chapter or two. I don't really want to read another 100+ chapters on another tournament.
-
I want an epilogue chapter for every major character
-
^ If only we were so lucky…
-
Well the latest spoilers in the Jump TOC confirms it: ES21 not over, new arc officially begins next week. (probably going to be an all-Japan team for some international competition…but somehow I just imagine it getting screwy, particularly with the original focus from day one over)
-
@Tokoro:
probably going to be an all-Japan team for some international competition
Yeah, the Captain Tsubasa route is very likely. Even if some Deimon characters would be discarded for good, it seems the only way to keep Hiruma, Musashi and Kurita in action.
-
If there is an international competition, there can be two ways that it can go…and either way I really don't like it:
1. The first way is Deimon is a representative team and it's various teams taking on each other from around the world...somehow that could be really improbable considering many of Deimon's players aren't the greatest and to see them get past teams that could be even stronger than Teikoku would be just getting ridiculous.
2. The other way is that there's an "all-Japan" team like what Yamato seems to be hinting at. It probably could be the best players in all of Japan, which obviously are going to include him, Sena and...well, who knows who else. But then that sort of changes the focus of the manga: while it's always about Sena, it goes from "Deimon getting to the Christmas Bowl" to "the ever-changing world of Sena's football experiences". And somehow, I don't know if it will be easy to see many of the Deimon players as supporters instead of players.I sort of really wished the series would end the next week or so but...since it is continuing, I sort of hope Inagaki and Murata make the right choice on whatever this next game/set of games are. (though what would be cool if there is an international tournament is if there are other football countries besides Japan and the US...heck, a Canadian team would be a great exposure to CFL-style play, as would an Australian one)
-
Theres literally so many awesome characters with the same position its really going to suck, who gets what. I mean I would Tetsuma to be the reciever over monta or even honjou sons, but hey it's suppose to be an all star thing. So situations like this might piss off a lot certain fanbase within the fanbase.
I seriously don't want to see a Reggie Bush character or Brett Farve manga chars, its just not them.
-
This kinda smacks of fan-service tbh. They'll just make an all-star team with the popular characters from other teams…
Is there a new estimated end point for this series now? Or are they just going to finish when they finish?
-
@Tokoro:
It probably could be the best players in all of Japan, which obviously are going to include him, Sena and…well, who knows who else.
If that is the case id wager Shin, Hiruma, Musashi, Akaba and Kurita are all guaranted a spot. But like its been said who knows in what direction its going. Maybe the focus will stay on deimon and we'll get another death march-esque training arc instead.
Anyhow im just so relived that its not over yet, I know i was one of the people saying it could never continue and blah blah but im just to addicted to this manga to quit cold turkey:wub:
-
The problem is that the series is about Sena. Deimon was the focus being an underdog but if they move to a higher stage to an "All-Japan" team, they'll be an underdog no matter what it is and whichever players they use. In some ways, an all-star team just seems more realistic at this point compared to just making Deimon (as great of a focus as they've been) take on the world when they've just barely defeated Teikoku and who knows what is in the next "level".
-
I just want a WORLD TOURNEY.
-
I just want a WORLD TOURNEY.
Pretty much, whats realistic just goes out the window. I just want em to face a bunch of culturaly insensitive caricatures of foreigners
Heres to hoping for a gargantuan swedish team of blond supermen.
-
We already had a blonde superman. Remember Homer from NASA?
Well, part of me is glad that ES21 isn't over, and the other part of me is apprehensive that it will majorly jump the shark.
Oh well, as long as they keep Hiruma in the main plotline, we should be all right. And seriously, if I were a coach/scout I'd snag Hiruma no matter what. Yeah, physically he's not the best quarterback in the country, but his brain I would consider absolutely necessary. Who's craftier than Hiruma? Nobody.
-
I suppose we could get a few practice matches where the All-Star team is crushed badly or something.
-
There is a spoiler (not used to reading ES21 spoilers due to that series being a bit more like OP in being surprised…but the weird situation forced me to) and essentially it's like this:
! It sounds like it will be a World Tournament…both the US and Japan are confirmed in but it doesn't say where else. Yamato & Taka seem given and Sena's being recruited...and Panther is already on the US team.
! (though I really still don't like that the focus is changing, I like Panther and I sort of hope we get some other countries where football is big instead of a bunch of generic countries just to have them in said tournament...so I'll give this arc a chance) -
I had preferred it to end after they won the Christmas bowl. It's not like I don't like the series, but I hate waiting for weeks just for one game to finish, even moreso than Gantz' missions. If they do two hundred more chapters of a world tournament, I will be annoyed. Serously annoyed. I think that it would have been best to just see an epilogue and that's it.
Maybe they won't show the actual tournament and just let it end with the all-star team being recruited.
-
My Absolute Prediction was two-thirds correct.
