I would hope so, considering that freaking Ukitake AND Shunsui both look at her as a superior. That'd make her the most senior Captain after Yamamoto, of course.

Yamamoto stated that Kyoraku and Ukitake are the very first captains after himself, so if anything Unohana has got the fourth longest tenure as a captain of the Gotei 13. No doubt though that she's quite powerful considering she gives the same "scary" vibe that was mentioned by the 11th division to the likes of those two.
Anyway, considering these match-ups, if they are going to follow the parallels(old man vs. old man, lazy guy vs. lazy guy) then Yoruichi might end up fighting against Halibel. Since like you stated, Unohana is in Hueco Mundo so another strong woman character might take her place and I can't think of anyone other than her.

Actually Shunsui and Ukitake were the first captains to emerge from Yamamoto's academy. That means that Unohana could have been Captain from a period prior to that academy, thus possibly making her #2 after the old man. Of course this also doesn't count that Captains turned Vizard (Shinji, Love, Rose, Kensei) or Yoruichi, but they seem to be younger than those two as well.

I want to see other characters fight. Bleach is one of those series where you know that it will be rare to see a supporting protagonist character even get a little bit of screen time.

The Shinigami Cup are always some of the best stuff…at least they knew where they were when continuity went away...and of course, Nel was waiting. (then again I just had this mental image of Nelliel tackling him but...we shouldn't know of it yet) Oh well, time for animated versions of orgasming releases, secret weapons where there shouldn't be, cute AP arrancar and...that pumpkin thing.

! It seems like the battles are a bit more solidified after this week, though a couple of them really aren't the best:
-Soifon/Omaeda vs. Barragan's two remaining Fraccion remains as is (some are predicting this will be first)
-Shunsui seems to be fighting Stark on his own…and neither really want to really do anything
-Shrimpo is fighting Halibel (please let her own him long enough for the cavalry to save him)...that means Matsumoto is fighting all three of the Fraccion.Y'know, Negima WAS awesome…

Two fraccions: “We are fraccions of the great emporer Barragan Luisenbarn(?)” Then they said a sentence or two more.
Scene changes to Lilinet and Stark.
Kyouraku: "…That kid, can you tell her to retreat from here?"
Stark: "…Why?"
Kyouraku: "If that kid is here, I can’t fight with my full power. Aren’t you the same?"
Lilinet: “What the hell?”
Stark: “Shut up, lilinet”
Stark: “…Well, it’s ok even if you don’t fight with your full power, I won’t fight with mine either.”
Ukitake: “…What do you mean?”
Stark: “I’m just such a person…characteristically.”Stark: “How’s about just pretending to fight and waiting until the other fights finish?”
Ukitake: “…what?”
He is interrupted.
Kyouraku: “That’s~~~~ great!! I might want that too!”
Kyouraku: “…But this time it won’t happen that way.”
Stark: “..I see, it’s troublesome.” He draws out his sword while speaking.
The scene changes again to Hitsugaya and Rangiku.
Rangiku: “Captain, I’ll take the three fraccions so the espada in the back is yours.”
Hitsugaya: “…understood, I’ll leave them to you.”
They “Shunpou” as they finish speaking.
Fraccion: “Can we go now?”
Halibel: “wait.”
Then, Halibel confronts Hitsugaya.
It ended with everyone (except Yama-ji, Ukitake and Lilinet) drawing out their swords about to fight.
Aori: “The war begins!”
The comment at the end: “Some fans sent me a premium sake and 100 roses for Gin’s birthday. Amazing… just like Aizen.”

Hitsugaya fighting Halibel makes sense, I suppose. They're both "serious" characters. And I had already predicted Shunsui solo against Stark. That fight is the one I'm definitely looking the most forward to. I guess that means Ukitake is going solo against Lilinette? Or is Shunsui gonna send Nanao?
Hopefully Omaeda will actually fight this time and not get his ass kicked in two seconds like back at Rukia's execution. His release is a Morning Star if I remember correctly, right? Be nice to see what special abilities it has.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

(checks Bleach Wikia) I know Omaeda had a huge spiked ball…but we only saw it for two seconds before Ichigo destroyed it with his fist. Apparantly it could be a ball-and-chain..that would be cool to see in action.
I really still don't like Shrimpo with Halibel...heck, I'd even take Ukitake against her...or Yoruichi for that matter...or heck, even Soifon if she could switch with Shrimpo.

Wow, that was one of the most uneventful chapters in a long time. All it did was establish who was going to fight who, and through in some fairly impressive dialogue. Well, I still can't wait for next week.

Hm. I thought it was a pretty good chapter. It builds up to the action. A few people are saying how cool Halibel looks unsheathing. However, I can't make it out. Is she unsheathing with her finger?

Definitely better than After Dark. Not that it requires much to be better, because I hated After Dark with a passion.
The Vizards pretty much made it for me, and I like how all of the captains and vice-captains are shown. The only thing that's worse than After Dark is the song.

Not a bad opening. What made it for me was Mashiro finger banging instead of drawing her Zanpakuto. It's gonna be awesome seeing her animated as "Kamen Rider" Hollow.

"After Dark" was just a great song stuck with what was essentially the opening from hell. (well OK not hell…the scene with the Espada and Aizen was cool) This opening really could have had more of the villains but did good use both of Soul Society (who show off soon enough) and the Vaizard. (hinting at "Turn Back the Pendulum")

Couple interesting thoughts after seeing the episode and the OP/ED a couple more times:
-I find it a bit peculiar the choice of Shinigami in the OP. In particular the usage of Nanao, considering she hasn't appeared yet in the battles at this point. Her only real purpose is possibly a "Turn Back the Pendulum" reference for later in the season, and even then it's a cameo.
-Similarly surprising, Omaeda is nowhere to be found in the OP and he's part of the Fake Karakura force! Heck, if you look at the Yamamoto scene, he's surrounded by Sasakibe, Kira, Shuuhei and Soifon…unless Omaeda is behind the leader, he's not there.
-I like the appearance of Tessai in both the OP/ED...more foreshadowing. (similarly possibly the appearance of Hiyori alone in the ED...)
-Another interesting thought is that a lot of the SS arc images were used for certain characters...I sort of understand them doing it with Mayuri (considering we really shouldn't know of his change in appearance yet), but it was weird they did it with Aizen/Gin/Tousen.
-The Shinigami Cup has Hanataro complaining he hasn't been in the show for a long time and doubtful for the future...with an arrow pointing to a sign that says "episode 197". Something pretty much tells me that's going to be Byakuya/Zolmarri. (since Hanataro doesn't show up with the rest of them when the others arrive at the rescue points) -

With the speed Pierrot eats through their material, you have to wonder why the heck they just don't end the anime already. Is it necessary to keep Bleach on TV that much?

By the way, I haven't caught up on the Bleach Anime yet, so this is just a question, but do those annoying other three modsouls stick around? I've seen them in every ending since they were introduced in the Bount Arc. I'm guessing they don't vanish like most filler characters do at the end of the Arc they're in.

there still in the anime buut you hardly ever see them infact you only see them in fillers(that stay with the story line)
