These shorts continue to be pure love!
-
Is it July 17 yet?
-
Huh.
https://mynintendonews.com/2018/06/30/jim-carrey-is-negotiating-to-play-eggman-in-the-sonic-movie/jim carrey as Eggman? i can't exactly picture that in my mind.
but an interesting choice nonetheless.
-
oh boy i can't wait for robotnik to make random sounds and erratic gestures
…..Actually this could work.
-
Evil Ham played by ham.
-
-
Jim Carrey isn't that guy anymore, hasn't been in a long time.
But, if that's the direction they're going then sadly it's going to be ridiculous Eggman rather than badass SatAM Robotnick. Ah well.
-
Honestly, I completely forgot (or didn't even know) they were making a Sonic movie.
-
I wonder if this movie will be for Jim Carrey what the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen was to Sean Connery, as the thing that ended his acting career.

Dude has done five movies in the last 10 years, and hasn't done a successful movie since I dunno, Bruce Almighty in 15 years, and hasn't been a surefire big hit maker since the mid 90's. His career is pretty dead.
He was able to grow a three foot long beard, he's not getting work. Not that he needs it with his old paydays.
Also, COnnery has done some voice acting since retiring. Not much, but at least a little bit of something other than League.

Does Jim Carrey hold the record for most roles as a pre-existing IP character adapted to film?
There's the Riddler, Mask, Grinch, Count Olaf, Ebenezer Scrooge, and now Robotnik. -
Does Jim Carrey hold the record for most roles as a pre-existing IP character adapted to film?
There's the Riddler, Mask, Grinch, Count Olaf, Ebenezer Scrooge, and now Robotnik. Not even close, especially if you're counting book characters. Off the top of my head Christopher Lee did Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Rasputin, a Three Musketeers character, King Haggard, Sarumon, The Jabberwocky, Diskworld's Death, Silas Clarney, and tons of tv work that adapted various books. And that's before you get into the 200 other movies he did.
Even someone like Jackie Chan who basically just always plays variants on Jackie Chan has been the Monkey King, Mr. Miyagi (repurposed for his culture as Mr. Han), Wong Fei Hung, City Hunter's Ryo Saeba, Ninjago's Master Wu, half the cast of street fighter….
Look at how many different actors have done multiple superhero roles. And of course, you get some actors who do a whole string of Shakespeare plays like Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart which just rockets up the count quick.
Lots of actors that have been in a lot of films eventually grab lots of literary roles. "Pre-existing IP character" is too broad a category to get anything definitive for anyone. But Carrey is definitely not the most prolific.
-
Yeah, I'm not too familiar with all of Christopher Lee's filmography and I forgot about Jackie Chan, Patrick Stewart and Ian MacKellan. I figured Jim wouldn't be the one to hold an honor like that.
You're right, the term I used is too broad. lol I completely blanked on movies/television based on books and plays. -
I didn't even handpick exlusive specific actors. Those were just guys off the top of my head that have done a lot of stuff.
Benedict Cumberbatch is reasonably new the scene and he's already been Sherlock Holmes, Khan, Smaug the dragon, Doctor Strange, Shere Khan, and is about to be the Grinch himself.
And if you get into voice actors, (and you're counting scrooge and robotnik, so you are) hoo boy. I guarantee Frank Welker has done a version of basically everything ever. Mr. Mxyzptlk, half the smurfs, half the transformers, Pacman, Donkey Kong Jr. Darkseid, Joker, Penguin, Kermit the Frog, SLimer and Ray in the Ghostbusters, the Beagle Boys, Godzilla, Garfield, Scooby-Doo, Horton the elephant, Curious George, Tasmanian Devil….

-
Such a shame thats it for those shorts.
-
Welp, here's our live-action hedgehog.
Or at least some of him.
-
Sonic cannot win.
-
-
I hope we get an extended closeup of photoreal Sonic sloppily eating a Chili-dog, for max squirmitude
-
That looks worrying.
-
Apparently they've also retooled they eye(s) @Executive:
“I don’t think SEGA was entirely happy with the eye decision, but these sorts of things you go, ‘It’s going to look weird if we don’t do this.’ But everything is a discussion, and that’s kind of the goal, which is to only change what’s necessary and stay true to the rest of it. He’s not going to feel like a Pixar character would because I don’t think that’s the right aesthetic to make it feel like part of our world.”
Oh Boy! I can't wait
-
I'm in my office right now trying not to crack the fuck up.
-
Oh no … Oh nooo!! I was expecting weird but this could very well exceed all my expectations!
-
Welp, here's our live-action hedgehog.
Or at least some of him.
What in the actual fuck.
-
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I'm paying to see this trainwreck.
-
This looks like it will be the cringiest of movies
-
I'm grinning cheek to cheek. I'm not sure anything this movie can do will come close to that poster.
-
I love how the poster is mostly DARK AND MYSTERIOUS, but then he has those bright red, realistic tennis shoes that stand out and make it 10x funnier.
-
Are we still getting Jim Carry as Dr.EggBotnic? Because that’s the only thing I’m mildly interested in.
-
If Detective Pikachu is a hit this movie will be DOA.
-
New poster. Behold the reverse crotch shot…
-
Howard the Duck? Is that you?
-
-
If we get hedgehog breasts in this movie, I'm blaming you.
Princess Sally already ran around naked for decades and no one had a problem with it.
-
Oh my god, this is so insanely bad. Only with the Sonic fandom…
-

Live-action hedgehog breasts.
-
Well, maybe he'll be moving so fast that we won't be able to see him most of the time.
-
-
I legitimately can’t tell if that’s the real thing or a fan speculation.
-
The one with the face is fanmade.
-
New poster. Behold the reverse crotch shot…
No Mickey Mouse gloves I can understand, but no socks? C'mon, please don't make me imagine the stank in those shoes.
-
Real or Fake? You decide…
-
I don't know why, but Sonic having blue arms makes me uncomfortably aware that he is naked.
-
Real or Fake? You decide…
It looks like a real poster but the fur looks like it was brushed in photoshop rather than CGI, so it looks freaking weird.
Also, why are his shoes photo-realistic when the rest of him just is not? Like, that one detail doesn't magically ground the character into the real world.
And yes, much like Superman, removing some of his color and going solid blue just makes him look much more naked. ANd those proportions. He's a blue hedgehog that runs at the speed of sound. Just embrace the absurdity of his design, don't try to "fix" it.
Also also, that shot makes me think we're getting the Sonic X treatment. Single CG character in a boring real world. No checkboard plains, no high tech future cities, no flying fortresses… just real world hijinks. Which is always awful and dumb, but it seems to have worked for chipmunks and smurfs and scooby doo so I guess it's going to make money no matter how awful it is.
-
Also it doesn't look like Sonic's shoes even touch the cop's head, they're awkwardly in midair.
-
Real or Fake? You decide…
He looks like Woody Woodpecker.
