Catch a fucking
STDclue SEGA! -
Idk Skies of Arcadia, the newer Virtua Fighter games, Virtual ON, Valkyria Chronicles and Bayonetta… all those games were pretty boss.
SEGA isn't COMPLETE fail; it drops the ball when Sonic comes to town, though.

Which is SEGA's heart.
You can't live without a heart.

Many companies have proven again and again actually that you can do JUST that.
Case in point: Electronic Arts!

It ain't right.
That's like have three kids and you're COMPLETELY ignoring your first child, hell, if the child has your attention, treat it like shit.
Break their legs, throw green paint in their eyes, rape it, the possibilities is endless.
Case in point: Electronic Arts!
Fuck Electronic Arts.

MADDEN MADDEN MADDEN WOOO!!!
Who cares if it plays like a retarded kid wearing a athletic cup, woo precision fucking passing man!
-
I just saw the Mine Cart gameplay.. Dear God, that is downright horrible. I knew it was too good to be true, they fucked up yet another Sonic with a shitty gimmick that gives you motion sickness, my nonexistent hype for the game just went negative 10.
When will SEGA ever learn? DON'T ADD GIMMICKS TO SONIC OTHERWISE THERE'S NO POINT IN "GOING BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL LOLZ FOR THE EXTREME FURRYS"

You can DL the OST of Ep. 1 over at ShadowHaxor.net
Gonna listen to it fully later on but the first Stage's Act's theme is nice. -
It still throws me for a loop every time I think that Miyamoto said that DKC was proof that players would put up with mediocre gameplay and buy a game as long as the graphics were good…..
Why does this make me wanna take cracks at the wii?

Wait…
Sega ruined yet another Sonic game?
-
Anyone that outright states sega is a failure hasn't properly delved into its juicy core.
As for Sonic 4…...it looks great.
Just look at 'Splash Hill' zone, various videos, screenshots & character designs.
-
Yeah, it looks great. There's no denying that it's got a very funky visual style.
-
Pretty much the entire game has been leaked, and the level design doesn't look up to much.
The other important thing is the physics, but I can't make any judgement on that until I play it.
Suffice to say things don't look great right now.

Looks a little more polished than before.

Is Sonic Unleashed worth 20 € for the Ps3? I heard it's one of the better Sonic games and the demo was fun to play.
-
That stage looks like the final levels of Sonic 2 in HD.

As long as you don't go at the game with the same mindset as the Sonic fanbase did you'll find it pleasing.

This is basically the rule of thumb for all Sonic games save '06 and everything after Shadow the Hedgehog's first hour of gameplay.

Its starts off good and then goes downhill toward the middle, and I say that because the later stages don't compensate a whole lot for the crap control.

Its 30% near perfect and 70% utter uber crap. (Werehog stages, village "subquests" map screens, useless temples, horrible sidekick, horrendous load times, breezy gameplay alternated with plodding gameplay, and requisite "practice this move" levels.)
In my experience the good wasn't worth the bad.
But the actual Sonic stages were very nearly what it needed to be.
Mileage may vary depending on your platform.

Why can't Waynehead have vaporized your head irl…

"So, the planet just ripped apart into 7 giant pieces, full of lava and cliffs and this should be incredibly bad and destructive and the end of life as we know…"
"No, not really. In fact, it happens all the time and none of the stages you visit will reflect this global appocolypse at all. Random villagers randomly have ancient artifacts relating to this. That'll we'll arbitrearily give you eventually for no real reason, and that'll side the giant pieces of flying apart planetary mass right back into place."
"OKay, I know Sonic games tend to have thin plots, but..."
-
I miss the Sonic Adventure 1 playstyle. That was fun. Especially the Gamma stages..

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.
I'm not sure if that's what REM meant.

Do you know what I don't miss? The Big stages. Why they felt that including a fishing sidequest that was necessary for completing the game is beyond my understanding.
-
Sonic Adventure is hella overrated with awkward controls.
-
And an drunken camera.
-
And the only 3D game where Tails gameplay was done right.
-
And glitches up the wazoo, and the boring Big fishing stages that, in no way, resemble actual fishing, and…what the fuck is up with their mouths in the cutscenes?!
(I'm speaking from my experience of playing the DX version only)
-
And the only 3D game where Tails gameplay was done right.
You speak like tails being able to hover properly and have levels that vaguely make use of that is some kind of achievement of SA and not just a greater indictment on the increasingly terrible games that followed.

points to Tails on a robot
points to Tails on a HORRIBLE kart driving mini-game
points to Tails being forced to fly while holding onto both Knuckles and Tails
points to StH 2006, where Tails' only benefit was throwing random boxes of rings at enemies…....that you couldn't aimYeah, it was a fucking achievement for this late in the series..

…you do realize Sonic Adventure came BEFORE those, right? And so thus, this statement is still true.

Oh! Confusion galore. I thought he was claiming that Tails' gameplay in SA was no different than the gameplay of the future games.
Granted, Tails' flight gameplay wasn't handled as well as it could have been. Stages were bitchingly easy. But it was at least refreshing.
-
And by refreshing you mean 3D.
Mario 64 did 3D right the first time.
Sonic Adventure got a free pass for being mediocre because it was "faster" and "harder to do". That's all.I've seen this revisionist history where sonic adventure was actually a good game popping up a lot. Just goes to show how shockingly terrible the games that followed were to make such an average game seem good.
-
I didn't say the game was refreshing. Big's fishing wasn't refreshing. For me, Tails' flying was refreshing.
Also, I played Sonic Adventure 2 first since SA1 came out on the Gamecube AFTER SA2 on the GC. So seeing Tails actually walking on his two feet/flying made me smile.
-
Did you then frown when the camera fell over and you died.
-

Sure, but I was used to it in SA2.
I never said the game was good.
-
The worst part is they've done a new game practically every year since Sonic Adventure. They've had 7 or 8 games to work out the kinks and get it right…
but they obviously weren't actually interested in that.
-
They've never bothered to make the camera helpful, never bothered to try and make sonic somewhat controllable, never bothered to try and bring in some of the components that made the 2d games enjoyable, like tight level design…I honestly think sega believe to turn up with a blue hedgehog is enough.
Sadly sales have shown there's enough idiots out there eating this rubbish up that this theory has pretty much been borne out.

This is possibly half the reason I still have Sonic Unleashed on my shelf…still in the plastic wrap it was purchased in....unopened.
I know a lot of people liked it but Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 is on a shelf right next to me. It's smiling at me...

When it comes to SA1, SHeroes, and beyond, I agree. The only stage I remember from SA1 was the theme park, and I hated that stage.
SA2 decent stages. White Jungle, City Escape, and Final Rush were pretty fun for me.
-
I wonder if they'll bother improving the boss challenges. It could use some longer, less predictable bosses.

Also entire levels where moving too far to the left, right, riding the rails they provide you, jumping to another rail, pressing forward too much in a jump, not pressing forward enough in a jump, going too fast, going too slow, or the camera switching so forward is now backward, kills you, due to pit of death.
On all sides. Of the entire level.
Every OTHER 3-D platformer has figured out "ledge grabbing" to compensate for near misses.
@Zender:I wonder if they'll bother improving the boss challenges. It could use some longer, less predictable bosses.
From the videos leaked so far, it looks like Robotnick takes a few more hits than he used to, and varies the tactics a bit more after every two hits.
-
I could really see how making an engine for Sonic being a pain in the ass when it comes down to 3D models and stages. What I don't get is that there's barely much signs of improvement or effort after ALL these years. It's like building a bizarre "over-the-top" building with no support pillars.
Mario has it easier since it does not go over the top with speed and flips through adrenaline-rush based levels. Even 3D mario games have problems with camera and controls flipping around when it's fixed on a different angle. Still, the 3D Mario games offer as much as to make flaws seem incredibly minor thanks to level design and what goes it.
Just my two cents.

Is that the mindset of expecting a good game.
Seeing time and time again the reactions of the fanbase even before they touch any new Sonic game I'd have to say no.
