Oh my gawd YES!!!

I guess this is why there hasn't been an FFV DS announcement. I wonder if this is also being developed by Matrix Software, who made FF3 and FF4 DS, or if Square Enix is developing this internally…

This is my second favorite game of all time.
I still have the cart in my SFC up in my room.
All I hope for is new content. There is no way they can screw this up.

I'll jump on the CT love train. It's an awesome game, and I'm picking this up ASAP when it inevitably comes out in the United States.
-
YES! YES! OH GOD, YES!

DAMNIT SQUARE! Stop making me like you so much! I'm already playing FFTA2!
The amount of games these guys are throwing on us is insane! I swear, I'm going to print their logo on a piece of paper and make sweet love to it.
Okay not really.
I never finished game (I have it on PS1), but this might give me a second chance.
-
Just as soon as I said that the DS wasn't getting anything, BAM Square-enix hits us with another one. Thank you square-enix for making my day.
-
OMFG, this wil be soo awesome! Just hope they will remake FF6 as well.

Yeah, tell me about it.

@Kaba:
I'm a HUGE Chrono Trigger fan but what I want to know is: is the game getting a full 3D remake or a 2D port with extreme dual screen and stylus action?
Several posters on NeoGaf are saying that it will be an "enhanced port" in the same vein as the Final Fantasies on the GBA. Basically, the original game plus a bonus dungeon and wireless play (however that will be implemented). But, since this is the Internet, I would wait to see official scans from Square Enix. While I personally would prefer some stylized 2-D (redrawn sprites and environments, etc.),
3-D wouldn't be the worst thing in the world; it worked well enough for FF3 and FF4.As for the FF6 remake: not in the DS's lifetime. I have a feeling that FFV DS will be one of the DS's last games, with FF6 being one of the first games on its successor. But that's just my opinion.
EDIT: Now that I've read the press release more closely, it seems like it's going to be 2-D no matter how they decide to do it.
-
Dayum.
I think I might just get myself a DS now.
-
Is it me or do the graphics in that scan look 3D-ish
-
I love you, Square. This totally makes up for beating the dead FFVII horse.
Funny I thought they beat the dead horse with all the FF remakes they keep making.
-
wow joygasm. To be honest I still want Akira Toriyama to do the art in this.
-
Toriyama for artwork….thats a plus.
hes done artowrk for DQVIII and I think Blue dragon so no doubt the characters for this port will be cool.ATB? FFIV advance style fighting?
OK...I am now more than convinced to buying this next year (since FFIV Ds came out in Dec in japan and arrived here in July)
the only thing dont want is renaming of attacks and powers
(FF II/IV Lit became thunder in the port)Chandelier(the name of Frogs move) better stay the same
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I'm having tears in my eyes, out of joy, out of happiness, out of PURE DELIGHT!!!)
Oh GOD!!… The best news EVER...
Now only an Seiken Densetsu 3 Remake, and the best games of all time are remade into formidable things...... Oh God THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!EDIT:
I hope SO MUCH that it will still be 2-D... Oh dammit, how much I LOVED the 2-D-Graphics-thingie. For me still much better than 3D in most of the current RPGs.
Does anybody know when it is expected to be released? This year? 2009?
How FANTASTIC!!! Oh guys, I just bought an DS 5 DAYS AGO!!! And right after that I'm reading SUCH FANTASTIC NEWS!!EDIT #2:
Okay, as I've read on an german page it is scheduled for a release in Winter 2008. This means, this year, guys... Oh goddammit... I love Square...
EDIT #3:
Great news for America:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/chrono-trigger-ds-confirmed-for-north-america-this-holiday/
And well, I'm living in Germany… So please, hope for me, that it will be released there as well...
-
Toriyama for artwork….thats a plus.
hes done artowrk for DQVIII and I think Blue dragon so no doubt the characters for this port will be cool.Yup, that's him. Toriyama does the art for all the Dragon Quest games, and he also did the art for Chrono Trigger back in 1995 or whenever. In a way, Chrono Trigger was the first Square-Enix game - Toriyama did the designs and Horii was co-supervisor of the development team.
-
don't get me wrong. I love chrono trigger, I bought that game the day it was released, but i'm getting bored with all the re-releases everyone's been doing. Man, they've been making re-releases since PSX days. Can I play something new and epic?
-
^ to me its a good chance for those who missed out on playing this years ago ro those that never finished it at all or those that want a nostalgic trip back to when games had simple graphics but had great gameplay
-
Still doesn't stop people from complaining over how Square should've just released this on the virtual console, whining about it not being a sequel, or it not being a full fledged remake on the PS3 & 360.
-
(I'm so going to get murdered for this statement.)
! Wasn't Chrono Cross the sequal to Trigger? I mean, yeah it didn't have the regular cast, but it was a freaking awesome game.
-
i won't kill you. ya it was the sequel. :) i think he meant "new game" when he said sequel.
K22: Go find the original game on ebay, or game trading zone. Go find a PSX copy, or get an emulator. They don't need to re-release every game on every system. :)
-
Chrono Cross also had Frog as a Human. I loved that game too, but Trigger is just more appealing and friendly.
-
it did…man I gotta pick up that game again. when was it released? I think that was the last time I played that.
-
It came out in 2000. And yeah, there's a human character named Glenn, but I don't think it's a human version of Frog. Just a guy named Glenn put in there as a reference, and in my opinion one of the strongest characters in the game (the best party was probably Serge, Glenn, and Leena).
-
As a european too consicence-heavy to use emulators, having grown up seeing CT hit the top 5 of "Best game ever" time and time again, you have no idea how happy this makes me.
And even if it never hits EU: REGION FREE DS, OOOOOH YEAAAH! -

And even if it never hits EU: REGION FREE DS, OOOOOH YEAAAH!Did you ever come across the idea to buy an NTSC-converter for the SNES? That's how I've done it. ^^
Bought myself a converter (for, like, 10 Euro), and right after that bought the game itself on ebay… (Though, it wasn't really cheap....... XP)The day the game arrived, 6 years ago, was like the happiest day of my life..
-
Sorry. While I like Chrono Trigger as much as the next guy, I can't get myself very excited about a DS port. I mean I guess it's cool for those who hasn't played it yet. But since I have been whoring with emulators it really needs to be much more than almost the same 13 years old game all over again or I will just pass it.
-
If it sells well enough, it might just be the trigger (yohoho title joke) that makes SE finally start on Chrono Break
-

Well, the advantage here is:
You can play Chrono Trigger whenever and wherever you want. That's a thing I always wanted to do. ^^ Going on vacation and take my GBA/NDS with me and still being able to play CT.If it sells well enough, it might just be the trigger (yohoho title joke) that makes SE finally start on Chrono Break
And hopefully retcon and leave Chrono Cross behind.
Dammit, the game WAS good, but not something I imagined, being an CT-Sequel.
But that's the point, most Users are hoping now: The port to trigger a new wave of CT-Games, or even Chrono Break. And hopefully in the DS-port there will be tied lose ends with the Schala/Magus Storyline, after you join forces with him.
THAT's something I was wondering for years about… -
Break was meant to be a direct sequel to Trigger. Cross just had some tie-ins to make it known that it wasn't a completely new game.
If I remember correctly, I saw Crono in the first "screens" of Break. Could've just been art or something though.

Yeah, I know. That's why I said, I'm hoping for "Chrono Break".
But still: If they decide to do a Chrono Break, that doesn't mean that Chrono Cross Story doesn't count anymore. (Even still I'm hoping that they retcon it…)The Wiki-article about Break is very informative. So take a look. There's sure something to be found, you didn't know already. ^^
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_BreakEDIT: Oh GAWD!! I've just thought about the new dungeon to be integrated, and came across an idea…
What, if it's going to be the cut-out and overwritten "Singing Mountain" ? Wouldn't that be great?
If that's the case, we are going to hear it's BEAUTIFUL theme finally directly in the game.EDIT#2: http://www.gamekyo.com/Webmasters/Images/72551020080703_170508_0_big.jpg
A clear picture of the new game graphics.
We can clearly see, it's still the old 2-D graphics, but still polished a little bit, and remastered. Perfect. THAT's what I was hoping for. -

I'm not sure what this NTSC thing is, but I heard you can just get a game genie, and plug the japanese games into that. From my understanding, the games don't need to be converted, they are just different shapes to fit into different holes. the genie bipasses this problem.
and what's this about singing mountain. Now you've got me interested!
-
NTSC and PAL are the two common encoding-thingies, respectively for USA and Europe.
NTSC is the usual thing in the US, as is PAL in Europe.
It is not possible to play NTSC Games on a PAL console, and vice versa. But there are some loopholes, through which you can slip, to play PAL/NTSC games on their code-counterpart.
Through this thingie you can play NTSC games on an PAL console, or even SUPERFAMICOM (Japan) games on a PAL-console. That's the only thing you need.^^Singing Mountain was a dungeon which was playable in an early Alpha-Version of the game (and was shown on V-Jump-Festa '94), which was accessable via 65.000.000.000 BC. (Near the Vulcan-thingie)
It was later cut out of the game, cause they thought, there was already too much going on in 65.000.000.000 BC and so it never made it to the full game.
(On the official Soundtrack of the Game, you can still listen to it's theme, cause it is put there as a bonustrack. (Which is EXCELLENT, to be precise!))

Here's the track on Youtube, so you can listen to this great piece of music. So, now hopes are high the extra-dungeon will possibly be this Singing Mountain.
-
AAHHHH!!! THAT"S WHAT THAT IS!! I"VE HAD THAT OM MY PC FOR YEARS only known as an unreleased track!. this is so cool :3
arigato gozaiumasu(sp)

I've only experienced the game through emulators, but it was amazing! I'm definitely buying this when it comes out!
(What sort of things do you think that Square-Enix could have in mind for Touch Screen functionality, anyways? The only thing that I can think of would be making it easier to navigate the menus, whether it's in battle or out of battle.)
