No, I think going to Impel Down is also shit. If you got 2 obvious choices that sounds like shit and you are the big cheese creator, you'll come up with something awesome to take its place.
As for Luffy, he'll have to become more mature and stronger. He can't keep his crew running away now. They have no where to go and they can't beat the top. Each member needs to grow on their own.

Now on another note, hold the phone, who said anything about them going into the New World without him? While I'd be happy to stand up for any argument that would say it's possible, I never suggested that. We have no idea how long this arc or the next arc will even last. It could be a year or two before we even find our heroes anywhere near Fishman Island. I don't think Oda would keep fans waiting any longer than that and simply by virtue of real time, a significant of time may have passed for us, allowing for plenty to transpire within a relatively short amount of comic time.

You're free to think whatever you like. However there is no question of loyalty or doubt here, it's Zoro. They have no need to search for Zoro because he may be in direct danger or because they're simply unsure of his motivation as was the case elsewhere. I believe Luffy would approach Zoro's situation much as he approached Ace's. Ace lives his own way and overcomes his own challenges and Luffy is unwilling to interfere with that. In fact, I don't think Zoro would even want them searching for him as it would break his original terms for joining the crew. This is just another chance for him to become stronger and if Luffy were to interefere with that well….

I mean it's just as likely that in that brief moment, Zoro thought about 'training on Sunny' and he's been returned there where he'll be cutting Z's for three days, awaken fully restored and aid in delivering the final blow of the arc.

That's a great point you brought up about the Vivre Card that I hadn't though about. However, I thought there was just one they would use to track Rayleigh. The way I read it Chopper's line to Zoro was a jest on Zoro's impetuous lack of sense of direction. However, that I consider the circumstances, perhaps they did break it up amongst themselves. This would mean Zoro can only look for them as long as Rayleigh is around which, unless Rayleigh hitches along for the ride since his cover is blown, should be before this arc wraps up.

Zoro's been in the spotlight since his fight with Ryuma. My hunch is that this was intentional: not only to make Zoro's absence more strongly felt, but also to give his fans one last big dose of Z-action to tide them over the Zoro-less chapters that follow.
So now it's a great opportunity to see the crew rely more on cleverness and strategy than on strength – these are skills that Nami, Usopp and Sanji and Robin all have and could usefully develop. Even if Zoro hadn't been transported, they'd have to rely on these talents -- they're too exhausted to rely on strength alone.
As Greg put it so well -- there's no question about Zoro's loyalty, and it would hurt his pride if the crew thought that he needed "saving", so it's reasonable for Luffy and Crew to briefly search for him, but then call it off (wearing over-compensating, emotion-hiding smiles, naturally) saying "It's ok. He'll survive somehow". Just as they did with Usopp.

People have been throwing this term around a lot lately haven't they? In response to your post though I'd be surprised if we didn't see Zoro in a hospital in the next 5 chapters. I doubt Zoro will have a mini arc or anything else that you would hope would happen - that's just expecting to much I think and it would make the manga unesscessarily long and boring.

I think the Cover Story idea is the best one so far. To use from this point on to wrap up the CP9 Cover Story (if it isn't already), have some "Where Are They Now?" covers, a Spread with everyone except Zoro, and then go to the Zoro Cover Story by the time our suspense is at its limit. To me, that would be the most awesome twist a mangaka has ever done with a manga series…

It's funny*, over the weekend I was talking with my best friend (also a OP fanatic; on these boards somewhere) about this particular notion. We were talking about how a "Jailbreak Arc" could be cool and interestingly different than Robin's "Rescue Arc", and would even fit with what is going on in the story ~~ getting the SHP wrapped up in the War VS. Shirohige ~~ with the SHP finding out about Ace in Impel Down and Kuma stating that he sent Zoro to Impel Down. However, I ran into two problems while discussing this with him: 1) I cannot imagine that the mystery behind Kuma's wisping away of villains, kittens, old women, and witches was something as simple as locking them up in jail. Or at least, I would be a little disappointed. Doing so would make the excitement about Zoro being gone a little less suspenseful, giving it less impact than him being captured right then and there by Sentoumaru. 2) This would be the second time Luffy saved Zoro from imprisonment at the hands of the Marine's, and at this point in the story I think it would drastically hurt his pride**.

i really like your post regarding zoro. i had similar thoughts, thinking… wow, this is way too cool. Oda is totally taking us for a ride. he'll make zoro absent from the story for about 30 or so chapters and then have him return healed up and saving the day with his usual badassery :)

however, chp brought up a really good point about the vivrecard (biblecard). at the time zoro received it, i never envisioned that it'd be used to lead zoro back to rayleigh and potentially back to the crew. this seems like the most plausible solution. this brings up something else that's interesting in my mind. will zoro return before this arc is over, and if oda is really going to deprive us of zoro then we should get one SH crew confrontation with zoro's absence to see how the crew will cope without him. this leads me to think, how much longer will this arc really be. i was expecting things to come to a stalemate with rayleigh's interference and then a timeskip to 3-days later with the finish of the coating job.
i love when oda opens up so many doors and unanswered questions. even better when he answers them.
just a side note that has been aching me a bit. i've seen some posts about zoro being sent to impel down, and i'm against this for multiple reasons.

Yes, I can definitely see that happening. The mini arc will be a find crew/heal/training arc. And the end results will hopefully be full of win.
Another thing I kind of see happening is skill development for Brook. He was defeated quite quickly. And since he just recently joined he really needs some more character development and screen time.

If he is at Mariejoia I really don't see the SHs busting in there and wrecking shit like they did at EL. They'd get spanked once they got on top of RL.

Places like back with his sensei, dojo, Kuina's grave mean he'd go all the way back to East Blue. Mihawk doesn't make sense in that situation, he'd die or atleast should if he challenged him again in that condition.

What's interesting about Zoro and Kuma is that everytime in the past when Kuma "sent" people away, he always asked them where would you like to go.
Many people are speculating Impel Down and Mariejoia. I honestly don't see why Zorro would even think of going to either place. But then again we need to understand the essence of Kuma's power more and what really determines the "destination" of his victims.
Is it the first place that comes in the mind of the victim?
Is it the most desired place in ones heart?
Does it have something to do with a persons Will? Dream?
Is it really a question or something he says before he just sends the victim off to a place of his (Kuma's) choice?
Now if it is in fact the true choice of the victim, would Zoro really think of a place too far from the SH?
Now I really want to enterain the Impel Down speculation, which is hard for me to believe it would happen but I would LOVE for it to happen. Why? Well Ace is in Impel Down along with many foes that the SH have encountered. If Zorros ends up in a cell, he can sleep his wounds off and then train on the baddies in there. At the same time find out crucial information about Ace's execution and the pending war between the Shichibukai and White Beard. Oda can easily join the situations together and create an all out SH + WB vs Shichibukai + ?
Of course it's all speculation but a fan can dream can't he?

Yes, a possibility. Now that Rayleigh knows the SH are in no condition to defeat an Admiral, Rayleigh may decide to stay with them to protect them. It would also probably amuse Rayleigh to serve as Luffy's "first mate" in the interim. (It would be yet another parallel in the lives of the former pirate king and the future pirate king…).
If Rayleigh doesn't accompany the SH during this time, then it would be wise for them to at least check in with him daily to see how the coating is progressing and to find out if he or Shakky have heard anything about Zoro. Shakky said "knowledge is power", so I expect her to have at least one more opportunity to show the SH her useful and powerful knowledge network. Some helpful information about either Ace or Zoro would be an excellent way to show the power of knowledge.
We don't yet know where the ship-coating will take place. It's a large ship, so it would be difficult to hide from the Marines, unless it was somewhere in the lawless zones where the Marines never go. Another possibility would be a hidden dock, similar to the one Franky had in Water-7. In either case, Rayleigh may suggest to the SH that they hide at the dock where the ship coating will take place. I like this idea because it would give them more time with him, and he could tell them some stories about his adventures. (This scenario assumes that the coating process is not toxic).
Something that could complicate matters: if Rayleigh isn't able to win his fight.
(his confidence and "down-talking" to Kizaru make me feel otherwise though).
I mean it's just as likely that in that brief moment, Zoro thought about 'training on Sunny' and he's been returned there where he'll be cutting Z's for three days, awaken fully restored and aid in delivering the final blow of the arc.
Every time you bring up that prospect, I get the image of Zoro arriving at some bleak moment while screaming "SOLOMON YO! WATASHI WA KAETTEKITA!!!"

Yeah, I think it's more likely that Zoro went to Impel Down or Mariejoa myself [or as I've said before, straight to Vegapunk]. But I still think it's cooler if Kuma actually DID have the power to send people to random locations around the world….
Straight to Vegapunk would be nice. He's the man who is responsible for the advances in Devil Fruit knowledge, so having Monster Chopper show up in this chapter could be a sign that they are headed in that direction. Sentomaru of all people should be aware that what he is seeing is an anomaly that has to be studied
