Chapter 506 "Roger & Rayleigh" Discussion

THAT's confusing.
What is? If there is a chapter comming the spoilers would most likely be out by wednesday right?

absolutely right

If I read the articles posted previously, there is going to be one piece on 7/7 but not on the week AFTER - which would be 14/7.
It had stated there was going to be one piece for 7/7 but on that same note it also said "No one piece next week" - which means on the 24th of july.
This chapter is the 7/7 chapter. Remember, we usually get chapters several days before they release in Japan.
So, here's how it looks:
Jump #32 (7/7): One Piece Chapter #506 (aka this one)
Jump #33 (7/14): No One Piece chapter (this is the issue of Jump that will be leaking online around Friday)
Jump #34 (7/21): Unknown, but One Piece will almost certainly be in it (this is the Issue of Jump that will be leaking online next week)
-
I am quite sure if there is no chapter this week Battle Franky would have created a thread letting us know there will be no One Piece this week. It's only Monday so I say we just wait for official confirmation from Battle Franky or anyone else who can provide proof.

Rogers death.
I for one am a little dissapointed but at the same time satisfied with this disease plot.
Dissapointed, like most are because a deadly disease is so…bland..."been there done that", unexpected and unbecoming of the great Gol D. Roger.
Satisfied, of how he dealt with it. He enjoyed his life, he fulfilled him journey, he gained his Title of Pirate King...Rayleigh said Roger loves to put on a show in everything he does.
People ask, why would Roger just turn himself in, it shouldn't matter if he was going to die anyway, he should go out with a bang....but in my opinion...he did!
Roger knew that if he turned himself in, they would publicize his execution. He knew they would spin it into saying they have captured him and then execute him as a lesson and a grave warning message to all pirates.
What better way to go out with a bang than to keep your spirit immortal within the new age of pirates by saying what he said before death? Roger is in fact alive in spirit and dream rather than in flesh.
Roger sparked an age of a new type of freedom, an age of strength and vigor, and age of exploration, an age of pirates!
Good shit Roger, now the WG is looking like a buncha bitches cause of you!
-
I agree that Roger made all the right decisions in his life.
-
its seems that each of the admiral has a unique trait:
Aokiji falls asleep
Kizaru talks to himself in third person or whatever you call itWonder what the third one will be like…
-
The third one trait is that he loves to killed his own men for justice.
-
….well, for Aokiji it's that he's sleepy a lot, unlike the Monkey D. family that is prone to just fall asleep while talking, eating, etc.
Also, yea, it seems like Kizaru talks a bit funny. Next chapter, we'll see....
-
The third one trait is that he loves to killed his own men for justice.
I doubt he loves it, its just that he sees sacrifices as a necessary evil when upholding justice.
-
Well if he bloodthristy then he might love it.
-
I actually like the disease idea because I think it shows that even if the Marines/ World Government couldn't bring him down due to his strength, a disease still could - He needed to be brought down somehow. xD
I also liked the fact that he turned himself in (even if I was a little surprised to hear it; admitedly, I didn't expect it even though many did.) This is because it still enabled him to go out with a "Bang" just as Pirate King Sage said, and start the pirate era. I think he would have been satisfied with this and I do think that even if diagnosed with the disease he wouldn't have been sat in an emo corner awaiting his death, and neither were his crew.
If Roger's crew were anything like the Strawhats, I'd think that he wouldn't have allowed them to be upset just because he was dying - and like the Strawhat crew are towards Luffy - understand where he's coming from and learn to just live while they're alive and be happy.
-
too bad roger took the wrong path in the grand line. If only he would have taken the one Hililuuk took. Those damn flowers could have cured him.

You forgot that Hiluluk also had some incurable disease that those flowers couldn't even cure it. Who knows? It could be the same disease as Roger's and maybe even Yorki's…
-
But wasn't that one of the islands that Roger went to?
-

.
He's doing a Monkey sound: "Oo". You know, Ooh Ooh Ah Ah? It's going with his monkey theme.

Hi! long time reader first time poster i actually took the time to read this back to front, (i do nothing at work all day but sit at a cpu) Im a 19 year old network administrator/marine and am stationed in okinawa japan.:ninja:
sorry but i just have to say this, kizaru is not talking in the third person he just says oh.. before he begins a sentence, if you look at the picture he is actually speaking into a den den mushi on his left wrist.
despite the translation (cause i read a few different versions of what he says) its clear by the sillohete that he is in fact speaking to someone and just confirming his identity. -

despite the translation (cause i read a few different versions of what he says) its clear by the sillohete that he is in fact speaking to someone and just confirming his identity. Some places translate it as "Oo", while Stephen gives his translation as "yo". In Japanese, it's common to end sentences with a certain word or phrase to give it personalization or emphasis. My take was that he was trying to sound like a monkey, fitting his theme. But if it's yo, then he's trying to sound punkish.
-
so you agree then that he wasnt just talking in the third person like many others have stated?
-

Oh, I knew he was talking in the Den-Den Mushi, but the added sound-effect, in my opinion, is him mimicking a monkey sound, fitting his theme. Exactly like how Kuzan adds "araaraara" to most of his sentences.
-
Holy crap, this chapter is awesome! What a nice welcome home present for me!
I remember a few years ago, some people speculated Crocus being a member in Roger's crew. Never would've thought that it was true after all. It was one of the biggest revelation chapters since we found out about Dragon being Luffy's father, and the Yonkou.
Oh, and Kizaru looking fucking awesome.
-
@Fire Fist:
Ooh Ooh Ah Ah
Ching chang walla walla bing bang?
-
I thought it started: Ooh Eee Ooh Ah Ah?
-
I'm pretty sure it was Ooh Eee Ooh Ah Ah for Mary Poppins.
-
I thought it started: Ooh Eee Ooh Ah Ah?
It does, hey it was that close I couldn't pass it up.
-
@They:
Ching chang walla walla bing bang?
you get 15 points for that.
-
Well, Kizaru is living up to his monkey name, and now time to live up to his color
-
Like by having a Black and Yellow pin stripe Versace suit?
-
no… more like having a cheese logia or something. something that is a little more permanent then a change of clothes.
-
Why do you spell his name like that? I mean you are named after him but your name and how you spell him now doesn't match? :wassat:
Well Stephen's site spells his name out, as Jinbeh, and word on the Net is that he is the Big Fish, when it comes to the right text. I have seen alot of members spell his name out as Jimbei even Wik, but alot of pepole have told me 甚平鮫 jinbei-zame means Whale Shark, so I went with that, I just left out the zame, and at the time, Jinbei was the way they spelled it in the anime sub, I was watching. I Guess I will just wait until/if its questioned and settled in the Character Names FAQ thread, like the Odr debate.:D
I can't speak for Stephen but I could at least explain why I use Jinbeh myself (which might have a common backthought with Stephen). The i that follows the e in Japanese such as in Sensei or Jinbei is actually meant to elongate the e. However the English phonetics (at least to my knowledge) don't have something like that. So a good translater that wants to cover that pronounciation would use an h instead of an i to get the effect across. Or to put it more simple in English you'd rather say "ehhhhhhhhhhhh" instead of "eiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" if you want to stretch the e. Get what I mean?
The same thing applies to u's that follow an o. Like in Fukurou for instance. English phonetics don't necessarily have the ou diphtong pronounced like an "oh". It does happen in terms like "four". But terms like "you" for instance have another pronounciation. So Fukuroh would be a better romanization for people who are not familiar with Japanese phonetics. For the same reason I use Kaidoh or Yonkoh. Kaidou or Yonkou are no wrong romanizations. But whenever I see them I hesitate a bit with the correct pronounciation. And from a translators perspective I'd aim for the least confusion as possible. So Jinbeh pretty much works even if an h appears nowhere in the original Katakana. Hope I got that across without confusions.

To read those word`s from you.
-
? you use the h to elongate the e? … funny... I would pronounce it as a shortened e instead. applies to all the vowels that has an H after.
interjections that end with h (like huh, meh, oh, ah and eh) are short for me. to elongate the vowel sound you repeat the vowel.. I guess it can also be done by repeating the consonant over and over like in "ehhhhhhhh".
I don't know enough grammar so I'm probably wrong about this but that has always been how I've read it.
-
vovels vowle vowel
-
how come whenever you guys want something official it is all based off of Stephen. What makes him so much better than everyone else?
-
damnit why didn't i press the spell checker? I know i can't spell that word.
=P
vowel <–- there! that is how it's spelled!
-
Man im still waiting for Zoro to enter the same lengthy fight that Luffy had with Lucci. I loved every minute of that multi-episode fight and now it's time to see Zoro "gets it in!"
An Admiral…a Shichi....the Rookies....The SH....what the hell is gunna happen now....I doubt a long fight though...although I WISH!
-
This was definitely a good chapter. I like Kidd and Law a lot more now, maybe because I've seen them now interact with their crew.
This whole Roger thing is great, because it pretty much convinces me that Oda has had this story thought up for a very long time, not just thinking it up as he goes like other manga guys. It seems obvious that Roger sparked the golden age, and therefore lives on through the pirate age.

yea i too was waiting for something like that for quite a while
i think Kuma vs Zoro might be a 2 episode thing but something more like that would be awsome.
I even think were gonna see more of extended fights between the top 3 but less main fights for the others. i think soon we will see the following franky like luffy but fights the numbers of people medium strength
brooks is like Zoro but will take out the low lvl medium to -high number peoplethen the rest doing their mini battles while the wait for their main fighters to come back from battles.
I think we may even see more paired battles and weak trio group battles but i don't think we will get 8 odd fights, 1 for each member.
Now just like TB this arc has two main enemies. Kuma, Kizaru, ah and garps on whis way if im correct.
But is luffy ready to fight a admiral without getting his ass handed to him like when he faced iceman.
Is Zoro injured heart gonna stop him beating kuma is a round two battle.
Is Silver gonna delay garp while the crew escape. With so many main enemies on the island Oda has quite a lot of options to take 3 of them mentioned already, of course many more things he could do. Doing this side by side with whitebeard and his attack. This and the next arc could be quite good.
-
I just love the small details he remembers.
the fact that when he was doing the arlong arc and showing htem all he remembered to put in a small detail as their previous captains mark. Even though we still have yet to even see him.
-
Crocus, wow, not only can he melt a cannonball in his stomach acid, but he was the doctor for the Pirate King!
Gol D. had an incurable disease, when fighting with Whitebeard????
Whitebeard was equal with the Roger yes, however it was an ill Roger, and now Whitebeard's ill so he's not as strong as he was even then, something tells me Whitebeard won't fair too well in this war…
Brill chapter, loving Kizaru's entrance.
-
But hopefully Kidd and Law will keep Kuma busy and thus he won't fight the strawhats again.
-
still curious on you guys always going back to Stephen. Why is he the end all say on all translations.
And about Roger vs. whitebeard with teh disease. We don't really know the effect of the disease so Roger could be fihgting 100% or he could be not.
And "Crocus CAN melt a cannonball with his stomach acid"???????? YOu lost me there. what are you refering to.
-
To read those word`s from you.
My forum-post-typos and the scanslations I worked on are two pair of shoes.
? you use the h to elongate the e? … funny... I would pronounce it as a shortened e instead. applies to all the vowels that has an H after.
Well, that's what I'm familiar with.
interjections that end with h (like huh, meh, oh, ah and eh) are short for me. to elongate the vowel sound you repeat the vowel.. I guess it can also be done by repeating the consonant over and over like in "ehhhhhhhh".
Good arguments. I guess that then it is also context dependant. huh and meh strike me as short. Oh, ah and eh not however. The thing with vowels is that a letter like "e" actually has a different pronounciation when you use multiple of it in a row. If you would say Jinbee then I would pronounce it as in "bee". Jinbei would have a pronounciation similar to "bay" by my book. Jinbeh doesn't go that way. But I can see why you interpret it as short. It's a matter of personal understanding I guess.^^
still curious on you guys always going back to Stephen. Why is he the end all say on all translations.
Because he's simply the best translator that's dedicated to One Piece. He might not be all knowledgeable about Japanese, but in terms of One Piece he's definitely the best we have so of course you follow him if you want to get your One Piece straight. Don't tell me you never had the "it all makes so much more sense now" experience once you've read one of his scripts after a scanslation.

Nah not really, usually there isn't that big of a translation error to make the udnerstanding bad ever. Only time I can ever remember switching because of something is I once had a scan that said the sub can only go 5 meters under water or something.
Otherwise they are all basically saying the same stuff, I just download them all and find what looks cleanest scanned or else which ever one has cooler lines. You know like what Zoro told Kuma about Luffy being Pirate King. whatever one made it sound more bad ass.
-
Do you suggest we should be using translations that "usually" include "only minor" mistakes in our debates?
It so happens that FH's first scanlation of ch.506 has a series of rather serious mistranslations that people are gonna keep reading at One Manga. Of course you wouldn't know that if you didn't compare it to other translations so there's a chance you will cause some confusion in the discussions to come.
Just one reason to stick to the most reliable translators. I don't know the details but looking at mangascreener.com and doing an internet search suggests he's having a rather large experience in translating manga which lead to him working as a professional for tokyopop and del rey manga.

Oh, I was still talking about the interjections, not "jinbei". In words like that yeah sure, the sound becomes different instead of elongated with a double vowel.
-
Don't feel like looking through past pages… but I heard a rumor that there is no chapter this week... could someone confirm if there is or not?

It's funny you say that as while we've seen the crew interact with their captains, we've only seen the captains interact with their first mates. and in regards to everyone else interacting with kidd, they seem quite formal.
