I don't visit forums very often anymore. I stopped going to KF, AnimeSuki, NF, TV.com, and any other place I went to for a while. I check in here a couple times every day, and visit a couple of older forums in other fandoms that I have friends on from on from time to time, but that's about it.

I'm in the same limbo you are. Nostalgia bombs are mobile animals, they roam the great prairies as solitary critters but when they decide to herd (usually because of some attractive feature, like a solid story arc a la Skypiea/Arabasta) it'll be easier to get hit by one.
I'm currently undergoing an enormous nostalgia rush for Pokemon, and apparently so have a number of Yotsuba folk. Hard to imagine one berated shows like YGO and PKMN can, in lieu of "oh hey remember when…!" can make the shows golden.

Well, it's a long explanation, but basically, Arlong Park has a number of similarities with a forum I joined in 2000 called Bulbagarden; about halfway through my first two months there (my first month), a group of "old folk" splintered off and formed Woysa, which was their "1337" forum and had a very similar layout/colour scheme to New Pork City.
For the record, "Woysa" is a corruption of "w00t". At least that's how I remember it. :blink:

Long story short, those folks ended up at a decrepit forum called Anenga. One need only browse there for a little while to see how the writing style/general intelligence is pretty similar to what you define as "humourful posting". Heck, even the "General" forum has a thematically similar name.

I'm don't mean to berate the forum directly (though I must admit every topic being closed and just waiting for people to sign up so one could ban them seems a bit weird) it's just that the spamish behaviour post-April Fools 2007 strikes me as bizarre portent of ill's in the future. Like the Cramer fellow you defended, "next step" outburts like Zephos seem all the more likely/possible and seeing you all banned from this place would be a huge loss. True, I disapprove of the non-sequiturs, random insults, poor spelling and arbitrary off-topic remarks (the images don't really bother since I can't even see them!) but every one of the folks who participate as such have offered brillaint insight or a clever wit to the forum over the years, which I personally value far more than generic hordes that seem to plague the Anime/Manga subforums these days.
I still think both UNKNOWNFILE and Zephos' bans did not outweigh what they contributed to the forum; Zephos always gave dry but keen observations, and UNKNOWNFILE was a fantastic raw provider and programmer though he didn't speak Japanese. I'd like to see the both of them back here someday.

That's disheartening, but it reflects how confined I have been since Thriller Bark started; I've avoided Anime/Manga/General OP almost exclusively, I guess it's unsurprising that there would be people of such a low standard around there.
For some there's no excuse, but for folks who don't have a spell-check Firefox like at this PC, it's a bit more difficul but I THINK PEOPLE GET TOO ACCUSTOMED TO THE SC…

I don't have other forums. This is my first and only. AP is becoming a tad stale. I still come here, to say hi to friends too. I sometimes wonder if there is another forum out there, I would enjoy. Then I also wonder if I would obsess over it, like I used to here. Then I would get nothing done.
@terek about spelling: for me personally, chatting on forums is recreational, thus I feel too lazy to spell check. Though, sometimes, I do it just for my fellow members, I like. I also find it annoying spell checking on forums, cause then I have to put up with it spell checking stuff like "usopp" or "w00t", or "AP" more so than actual words that need it.

Note the Cramer example, perfectly normal person making an almost out of character racist remark. The whole "spam for lulz" deal is the product of being bored with forum life in general, which is why the main attraction becomes off-beat comedy.
When people get tired of a certain kind of humour, they go to more exteme extents to extract the same amount of laughs. This is why Zephos went over the line, but that line wasn't actually defined until he had already gone past it, which is why I don't think it's just. A temporary ban might have been warranted, but not a permanent one.
UNKNOWNFILE pushed his luck by disregarding warnings, but I think a temporary ban would have reformed him just as well as the permanent one, especially since those warnings were not given via PM and were sent to him IN the topics he was trolling in, which IMV is unreasonable considering how popular said topic (the '4Kids Dub Discussion' IIRC) was and how easily he'd miss it.

Because the reason I've been driven away from those forums isn't a loss of interest in OP, it's the fans who've soured my appetite for it. Would you eat your favourite food in a barn after a cow's farted on it? Such is the kind of bad taste I used to get when I went into Manga/Anime.
I have bad posting habits, like trying to address everyone who talks to me - this usually results from trying to play Devil's Advocate or to go against a hive-mind, and predictably I get swamped with too many replies. Worse yet, because of high turnover rate for new members, I have to repeat the same things over and over again.
I just plain got sick of going into Anime and saying, "While I think the 4Kids anime of OP was horrible, I don't think everything 4Kids has done is all that bad" and having to respond to the same "OMG U WORK 4 4KIDS DIE PLZ" and "DEATH TO ARCHON!1"" time and again, only to fall on deaf ears because I can't properly address twenty people responding to my post at once.
In small group debates I can be persuasive, but trying to convince a crowd of anything is pointless. I won't submit to the hive, so I just left.
So, I gave things a rest. Once I feel up to it, I'll return to the hive and fight some more until I get exhausted again. It's an endless process but hey, someone's got to do it.

I usually think the same too, along with keeping any repeat offenders from posting in that thread or others, but at the end what gets done around here by the higher ups get done even if the outcome isn't agreeable.

Like a teacher reading or forcing a student to read a personal note written by the student to the entire class, it's an action meant to make an example out of said individual and curb any more fooling around from them or any other people.

Honestly, Zephos didn't really do anything "extreme" or too out of the ordinary for him. So no, he didn't "snap" or anything, he was just making a goofy post parodying all of the idiots crying about Cartoon Network taking OP off their schedule.

Actually there really isn't any reason for Zephos ban. Since they canned him because they thought he sent a threatening pm to CN in the name of Arlong Park, which prompted them to make that grand IMPORTANT announcement.
So once they had the confirmation he didn't do it and was basically just making fools out of them they should just have cancelled the ban.

Not that much…I have a problem about them mistakingly banning me every time I create an account...I think there's something wrong with their forums, it mysteriously bans people. Must be a new virus or some sort. It's a good thing I got plenty of proxys and different methods for checking the place out.

Thought I'd revive this thread, seeing as this was over 2 years ago. Plus, I was noticing how much my activity across most of the forums I use to belong to has become infrequent or ceased entirely, besides AP. Thought I'd see what everyone else is up to.

Two years++ and I've still only made a handful of posts in Manga. My my, how AP changed so suddenly, then stopped changing at all once the intellectually challenged ceased maturing and started leaving.

Well I got banned from Savedonepiece because I posted a topic called a picture of Enies Lobby in the Ohara section(a place for spamming) and it got Enies Lobby mad. Then I posted a topic in that same section called post your dick and I said that Enies Lobby has none and one of the mods gave me a warning but that was before Enies Lobby read that. Later Enies Lobby read that and got really pissed. Then he made a topic called "ahem I got an ancouncment" and he said hes going to permittly banned me. So then I got banned.
That is my story of being banned from Savedonepiece.The real question is: Why isn't this guy banned already?
