YEAH she really hasn't had anything, except for the games, but still it's not the same as seeing it from the man that made the character. Cause in the game she was a grapple fighter and I'm not sure that's the kinda way she'd run around. Also Chopper in all forms doesn't have a fighting style this would be something that would be keen. What do you think about the lime light Sanji most def, but who else maybe another Usopp show or someone different so there would be more character growth.
Fishmen arc the time for Sanji to shine?
-
-
Lately most SH seem to get more emotional development.
Zoro: He cares more for the crew now (even Sanji)
Nami: She seems to lose her greed more
Usopp: Isn't as scared anymore as he used to be
Robin: Is closer to the crew
Chopper: ?
Franky: ?
Sanji: ?
Brooke: ?Maybe they will shine some more next arc and get's some more development.
I don't think we'll spend much time with development during the Fishman Island arc, but I have no doubts that there'll be more developments for the SH in the upcoming arcs.
Sanji's development might focus on his chivalry, not kicking woman(no matter what's at stake). I mean, it's like his one big weakness.
More development with Franky's and Luffy's past, especially with Luffy. I mean, I'm interested about his relationship with his father. And why Ace has a total different name.
-
Didn't we already have a thread for this very subject?
-
Nope…..........................
-
Huh well there should be one. I thik it's just the different father thought, you kow same Mom differet Dad. And I agree it's goig to be a story that builds it's self the the ext Arc while beig apart of the Saga will be the ture turning point.

You know, I thought the same thing too. But something else I thought was maybe he changed his name on purpose so as not to be associated with Luffy when he became a pirate. Or his grandfather for the few that knew his name.
On Topic: I kind of expect Sanji to be faced with his whole women weakness thing. I just have a feeling that something "big" is going to happen with him in this up-coming arc just because he's looking forward to it so much.
-

Since when has kicking a woman been a show of strength?
If anything, I would think it was a sign of weakness – because it means he hasn't got enough willpower to stick to his principles and hasn't got enough brain-power to think of a non-combative way to defeat his enemy.
I'm looking forward to seeing him use his strategic thinking to defeat his female opponents -- so he won't sacrifice his chivalry.
I mean, think about it, if you don't expect Zoro to violate the codes of bushido to get stronger, why should we expect Sanji to violate the codes of kishido?
-
Fishmen arc the time for Sanji to shine?
I sure hope so. A good development would do him good, he's starting to be a Zoro-spinoff in combat due to his samurai-esque attitude.
-
@Lobster:
Nope…..........................
I know for a fact we discussed this before.
Anyhoo, it would be nice for Sanji to get some major focus. I think he's one of the most one developed characters in OP. But I don't see how his character could develope in the next arc.
WARNING! SPOILERS!
! In a recent chapter, he showed that he is willing to not only die but sacrifice his dream of helping Luffy, so I don't see any falling out if he finds the all blue in Fishman Island. Or maybe he just wanted to best Zoro when he said he would die for Luffy. Well, I believe he would.
-
I know a lot of AP folk would like to see that part of his personality lobotomized ASAP, but what's left then? A generic badass? No thanks. I'll take the quirky split-personality any day instead.
That was the best thing I read on this forum in a long time.
I'm a huge Sanji fan, and a bit tired of all this 'Zoro is 100x cooler then Sanji' from certain people in the forum population. Just like Paladins vs Warriors in WoW, I prefer to take the 'I know Sanji is awesome' approach instead of trying to prove something to shortsighted people.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. The constant negativity towards some characters (Sanji, Usopp, etc). I don't like it – it keeps the fans of those characters from sharing their opinions. But there isn't much that can be done about it, except what we've been doing already. Posting in threads like this one, PMing like-minded fans, and just keeping our opinions to ourselves.
-
Just state your opinions, you shouldn't be flamed for liking Sanji more then Zoro.
-
like someone already said, if there is one person that NEEDS a true fight next arc is robin, she never actually fought anyone 1 on 1 as a SH, and her DF power is quite versatile. But i think as the crew grows more and more, we will get a lot more "tag team" action from now on (we already saw this in thriller bark, and even in ennies), where instead of 1 on 1 (except for luffy, zoro and probably sanji), they use 2 crew members at the same time, because lets face it, it was easy to do 1 on 1 back when it was 4 or 5 people, not so much now that its 9(!)
-
Just state your opinions, you shouldn't be flamed for liking Sanji more then Zoro.
"Shouldn't" but probably are. Personally, I like all of them and I would love to see everyone one of them grow.
-
I think at times Sanji just seems to be like an "also run" character. Zoro has the stronger character personel over Sanji, Sanji can be annoying at times. Zoro is predictable at times, yet very suprisingly. Sanji you can always guess will try some smart alec method of dealing with a problems, like at EL and closing the gates… Several people predicted that is what he was up to. Can't remember their names now, hats off to you...
...But seriously, who could predict Zoro's speech on Ussop's rejoining? Outside of being a lug in battle, Zoro is one of the most random yet serious characters in OP.
-
to me im hopeing sanji does and doesnt shine in merman arc. id like him to have his 'big' moment but i like how he is in the background and uses his brain to achieve victory like EL.
-

Agreed. What bothers me on this forums is that a lot of people complain about Sanji's chivalry because they don't believe in chivalry. I don't believe you must agree with a fictional character's beliefs or even identify with them to like them. I like Rock Lee from Naruto, but I have no desire to prove I can be a spendid ANYTHING. I love Usopp, but I don't quite agree with his dream to be a great warrior of the sea. I think Brook is a wonderful character, yet I am not a super Jolly kind of person, so I dont' identify with him.
I believe a character needs to have an interesting thing about them to make you love them, not being able to relate to them or agree with everything they say or do.

Keep in mind that on these forums, negative comments = humour. Apparently.

Helps if you can read sarcasm. Or just innately tell they're joking. Mindreading helps also.
-
I doubt people are being sarcastic when they say, "I hate so-so for his/her belief on so-so!"

True, very true.
-
I think that Sanji will have some character development and might have some big moment like others have said finding a piece of information about All Blue.
I think something interesting for fishman Island is that Nami has had mostly negative experiences with Fishmen, whereas Franky has had mostly positive experiences with Fishmen. So I'm expecting that there will be some tension related to that: whose opinion will they trust more?
I agree. There will probably be some type of development with Nami and Franky with how they think about the fishman. Also, I think they will trust both Nami's and Franky's opinion about fishman because they are both crewmembers and Luffy will trust them both.
-
I think true fans of Sanji understand that he is a thinker, and he doesn't need to hog the spotlight. However, if for some reason he does get a big boost (as he told Kuma he would) I will be very glad.
-
I feel a bit bad for all the Sanji fans who do get beather down by the Zoro fans saying Sanji isn't as good-but I do love Sanji for being entirely different to Zoro (but I do prefer Zoro but thats another matter lol).
Zoro sacrificing his life is a huge thing for him, as a man who claimed he would let nothing or noone stand in the way of his dream. His action showed how he has grown to consider the crew to be remarkably important. But Sanji is different, his attempt at shining by giving up his life seemed more-to me at least-like an attempt to show he can be as strong as Zoro. To give up his life so easily it isn't very Sanji-ish. Sanji is far smarter than Zoro I think that if he were in a similar situation to Zoro he would do something really different.
I cant help but wonder what would Sanji do to Shine? Because as one of the monster 3, his fights dont appear to be as major as Zoro or Luffys, and at the main group fights he runs off to do the intelligent thing, like at Buster Call etc.
What do you guys think? -
I think why his fights don't appear to be so significant to you is because they are one-sided for most of the time.
-
The one-sidedness only adds to the awesome. That and the fact that NO ONE outside the SH crew takes Sanji seriously.
-
lol yea that is true AWB, and Bojangles that does make them awesome, and AWB I didnt mean in any way to say I thought Sanjis battles were insignificant, I dont think they are at all insignificant in fact Sanjis fights are normally some of the most important, as they lead to things for the erst of the story, a.k.a Mr 2 etc.
I just meant that in the chapter "Member of the Strawhat crew:Piarate Hunter Zoro" it seemed like Sanji only did what he did because Zoro did it first, his resolve wasnt quite as strong as Zoros.
That could just be me, and I still love Sanji, he is my 2nd fave character in OP -
The more I think about that scene, the more it seems like Sanji was deliberately playing down the situation. His bravado was a front for something he didn't want to face: fear. Fear that his Captain was going to be killed, fear that his friend and rival was going to be killed, fear that he himself wasn't strong enough to crush the source of his fear. His offer of his own life was legitimate but if he had framed it in terms of "Please! I'm begging you to take my life instead of either of these two!", he would have not only lost face to Zoro, he would have lost face to himself. Sanji is the kind of character that can take a little loss of face to his rival, because he knows that an opportunity will come around that makes Zoro lose face to him; it is always so for proud men like themselves. But to lose face with himself is to see his pride broken, his reason for competing lost; there is a kind of unspoken bond between rivals that, when they are honorable, is less of friendship and closer to brotherhood. If Sanji had lost his pride then, that bond would be forever broken.
So, how could Zoro not lose face by begging for Luffy's life? Simply put, Luffy is not a part of the "alpha competition" (as dinty has named it.) between them. Luffy has no manly pride to lose: he has only his pirate's pride which, while virtuous, is grounded in the spirit of wonder, and not the esprit de corps- the sense of soldierly camaraderie, honor, and manly pride which drive both Mr. Bushido and Mr. Kishido. Frankly, nothing embarrasses Luffy. He can behave like an idiot and never lose face because of it. In that sense, his pride is stronger than either Sanji's or Zoro's- and both of them know it. Both of them respect it. Both of them would lay down their lives for it. But neither can ever embrace it, because then they couldn't be rivals anymore.
Bleaaagh! Read too much of the Eternal Champion sagas recently…
Anyway, the new arc should begin soon. So, personally, I'll just wait and see what Oda has in store for the 'kind-hearted cook'.
-
There's been too much Sanji limelight in the last two arcs. I'd rather see someone like Robin or Chopper get more spotlight time. Seeing more Brooke would be kewl too considering he was gone half his intro arc.
-
I'm also hoping Robin gets an actual fight.
I really don't see how Robin would get any fights when most of her battles basically go like this:
–
Possibility 1:
- Clutch
- Opponent's back or other major bones Broken; Fight Over.
Possibility 2:
Opponent is a Logia or a strong Zoan, so she can't do much against elements like Sand (Crocodile), Electricity (Enel), Ice (Aokiji), and probaby Leopard (Lucci) etc... so she ends up defering to the other Straw Hats.
Maybe if they run into Akainu soon, there might be a chance for a fight, since this would be obviously very personal for Robin. However, since Fishman Island's most likely next on the SH's list of destinations, they won't be running into him in the near future.
Though knowing Oda, just about anything can happen in this series.
-
Robin just got some spotlight and I think having to fight someone you admire was pretty big for Chopper.
-

This is a decent point, but I think that that is the idea. We want there to be an enemy that Robin cannot simply clutch but CAN'T defering to the SH, so she has to fight to the end. While I only see Robin being able to "go all out" to protect some history, I wouldn't mind seeing that
-
I think chopper kicked ass in Water 7. o.0 Dont tell me you guys forgot about that arc already. Ok ok- Locked a dude in a fridge but for god's sake he's a young reigndeer!
I think Sanji's just feeling burned out. Currently, he's the stablest male going for alpha status. And being the stable one sucks. The way he acts in water 7, and again in thriller bark shows that he actually thinks about how people might feel.
Luffy doesnt think. Zoro is objective.
Sanji just works his brain more than they do. He's got the cynical edge over Chopper's nieeve without the paranoia and pessimism that holds Usopp back.
Sanji needs a break, and a little pampering. XD I hope we get beautiful mermaids that dote on his mad skills.
-
> I really don't see how Robin would get any fights when most of her battles basically go like this:

1) Clutch
2) Opponent's back or other major bones Broken; Fight Over.Well yeah, but the reason she always does that it's probably been good enough for pretty much everyone she's had to take down in all her years in the Blues and under Crocodile. It's only travelling with danger-magnets like the Strawhats that's led to enemies that don't die when you snap their heads off (moria, Aokiji, etc.). She has kind of a learning curve to deal with here.
What I'm hoping is that she'll find some other application for her powers, to adapt to new, more dangerous threats.
I mean, she's smart and inventive enough for it (The giant arms she used on Moria were pretty cool) and her power has essentially limitless potential, so I'm hoping she makes some progress in that area at some point. -
I hope Fishman Island is to Sanji what W7/EL was to Usopp.
I'm tired of that fag.

what do you mean by that Aldrich, get character development, or leave the crew?

Or just get beaten up a bunch of times and end up grovelling as the crew sail off without him?
-
Or get a tottaly awesome new altered ego with a cape.
Sogeking and Mr. Prince. The Sentai team of Epic. >: 3

I hope Robin develops new skills.
Luffy and she are the characters with most potential when it comes to bizarre techniques, after all.

does Shigan count as a new skill?
Cause Robin would own with that
-
Sanji only got development in his intro arc and from then on he just tries to look bad ass with his cigarette.

If things had gone right(wrong?) she could have ended up as the most powerful, scariest CP9.

Robin was never gonna be a CP9 agent. I thought this myself, but realize that the entire time Spandam was just taking her ass to jail
-
I bet even Usopp could have defeated Jabyura and Kaku if his "trap them with Sea Stone handcuffs" plan had work….
-

I kinda meant if things had gone differently during her childhood and was somehow taken in to be trained a Cipher Pol.

Haven't been here for awhile, nice to read your posts again. Is it sad that as a Sanji fan, I want this to happen? XDD
-
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:

no. I mean, they still have over 2000 power level units
and they still have access to all of their techniques (except possibly shigan)
Despite the fact that I believe Usopp could now beat Arlong, I don't think Usopp will EVER be able to beat Jybura or Kaku (handcuffs or no)
-
-
@Lobster:
^wtf IS this??…
A mistaken assumption that since Usopp's bounty is equal to what Luffy's was when he beat Arlong, Usopp could also beat Arlong.
-
Remember now, Arlong most likely paid Nezumi to lower his bounty. Arlong's original bounty could have been more than 50 Million.
