Well I finally found enough time to finish Dead Or Alive & In Memory Of Walther P38 enjoyed both, I especially enjoyed the scene in Dead or Alive where the General lopped the soldier's head off and the fight at the end.
-
OK I found a place to get Lupin movies and OVAs, but what I need to know is the watching order.
-
You really don't need to watch them in order.
-
^Cool, then I'll watch the first series then skip Part II and III (since they're not complete :P) and then do the movies.
Thanks -
Red vs green guidebook

-
Is it wrong for me to ask where I can get the sub of Red vs. Green?
-
I don't believe it's been subbed yet.
-
My favorite color is green, but I prefer red. Probably cause it was my first exposure.
-
Green is better than Red but I don't mind that Red has become the dominant color.
-
Haha
Starz channel is airing right now(12:15am) Castle of Cagiliostro
for someone who has never seen it before, this is a great film
the voices are way different ,then again this is green suit lupin, not red suit.who plays the voices of lupin, jigen, zenigata, and Goemon?

Yeah, I saw it on Encore a few weeks ago too. I'm not positive who did the dub, I wanna say Central Park Media, but I'm not sure.

Manga Entertainment.

Eitherway, I want to see more of the series. (I still got Season 1 on CD I haven't watched) But I wish other than some of season 2 and some of the movies were dubbed, I thought the dub was great, and I kinda don't want to get use to a Japanese voice cast. Not to mention this also isn't the type of series I want to read subtitles on.

Well them's the bricks

I don't think we'll be seeing any "Lupin" getting an English dub for a while, so in the meantime just track down as many DVDs as you can.

I've never been a fan of the series, but I used to (and still do) have an NES game of it for the Famicom. It's still lying around here somewhere. As I've been told it's the only one ever released on NES/Famicom.
But the game sucks. Don't waste your time. And it's in japanese.

Nice. Episode 0 is actually one of the very best Lupin movies. Great animation, true to the roots, a good caper, some nice twists and turns, an origin story, and it homages all the great character moments. Even had the first Goemon encounter almost identical to his actual first encounter in the manga/episode 5 of the anime. And Lupin legitimatley going against Jigen is pretty fun too.
Shame I already own it…
-
Very cool that this got licensed, it's great stuff.
Lupin is one of the all time best series, still going strong today.
I've been rewatching all the Lupin movies/specials, catching up on the new ones, and reviewing 'em over on MyAnimeList.
-
im still waiting for the main series to be licensed.

It'll never happen. Lupin has gotten this much material brought over stateside based sheerly on what an icon he is in Japan, but its never caught on. Only about 1/3 of the movies have made it. (Several of them the shitty ones, and many of them mediocre. We haven't gotten a lot of the really GOOD ones here, sadly…)
The Red Jacket series was the one that was picked up because it was the most successful and long lasting in Japan and the most worth licensing, and it only ever released 79 episodes out of the 155 it had. (And Adult Swim only aired 26)
There's no market for the darker, less popular, even older and less well animated Green Jacket series. (and even less so for the crazy horrible character designs psychadelic pink jacket series. We can be thankful for that at least.)
So, don't hold your breath on that. Try hunting down a bootleg or a torrent instead, I got a nice box set for 30 bucks that has the whole green jacket run, subtitled pretty well.

I was hoping for the red Jacket Funimation series ( i believe 2-all the voices were all from Funi)
i know theres no chance for the other jackets to appear.i just hoped there would be a better chance for the series besides 2-3 episode DVDs from a now defunct company
-
well this is strange ( very odd thing so i rather bring this back than start a new thread)
if anyone gets the UTB12 channel on tv…they are airing the Pink series of Lupin the 3rd Subbed(called Pt.3 on the site)
It seems weird to see anything before the red series to air in the US.
Artwork is odd for Fujiko and Goemon though lolOne more thing...where can i get the Movie boxsets? seems amazon wants over 100 for 1 order O.o

Ouch. They used to be 30 bucks each. But a quick look doesn't show anything.
Just keep an eye out on ebay I suppose. Or hope Amazon offers up a used set for cheap.

Man, anime DVD prices really force you to bend over….

They're just out of print and rare now.

There's going to be a new Lupin III tv series. Cool.
He's had annual movies for 20 years, but hasn't had a tv series since the 80's.
-
Oh man, I used to watch the tv series all the time as a kid. In italian….but you gotta make due. Should be nice to have Lupin as a TV series in new fangled animation.

Really? Cool. I wonder what Lupin's suit color will be now. I hope its given if not great, a decent production.
I remebered watching the (I'm not sure what part) anime with Lupin having the red suit when I was a kid. Then, just last year I've watched quite an amount of episodes from the original one (Lupin with blue green suit) in Japanese with subs.
-
Red is the color Monkey Punch prefers, its on all the manga, and its been his standard for most of the movies, and the longest running tv series of the three, so… probably red. The pink is best left forgotten, and the green is usually just pulled out for nostalgia and Cagliostro reminiscence.
-
Isn't it possible that they'll give him a new jacket? Like, every TV series he's had a new one, right?
-
It's possible, but they've pretty much stuck with red for the last 25 years in all the movies and merchandise, its the most iconic, and people generally hated the pink era and try to ignore it.
Wont be blue or purple, too close to the old colors. And going towards say, yellow or orange, might be a bit too zoot suit for him, especially when Zenigata is in all browns.

Yep. I remember watching Lupin III as a kid. I think that was actually my first experience seeing animated bewbies.

Was there ever an instance where they showed Jigen's full face?

Plenty of times. He loses his hat from time to time or it rises up or he goes under disguises or whatnot.
-
Do you recall the specific episode or movie where this happened Rob? I always feel there is something mystifying with his covered face.

Gah, the pink. Don't remind me. Red was way more badass.

No specific time or place. It happens all the time. I've seen most of the movies and huge chunks of all three tv series, it all blends together. It wasn't a one time special event or anything. He just shows his eyes sometimes to communate emotion better, surprise or cockiness usually. Or loses his hat from nearly drowning in water or whatnot.
It just happens off and on.
-
What studio is going to work on it? TMS, who have made the previous three TV series?
@RobbyBevard:

Yeah; like in that Samurai Jack episode.
-

I don't know, the article didn't say. I would assume them tho, since they have had the rights for forever and made all the movies, and it was announced during a repeat of one of the old films.
That and Boy Detective Conan…

That'll be neat to check out.
I hope it won't be a straight manga adaption, though. I've nothing against Monkey Punch, but from what I saw of Golgo13 and the recent "Enma-kun" adaption of Go Nagai's that basically rips the manga from 1970, dresses it in sweet animation and paints it on TV, an old fashioned yet influential style can end up being repetitive and boring if the director isn't savvy to the times and doesn't do something fresh with the mateiral.
Imagawa managed to be faithful to the Mazinger mythology and its 1970's feel with Shin Mazinger, I can only hope the director for the new series does the same.
-
Yeah, this is is just going to be another special.

The weekly LUPIN the Third ~Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna~ (Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine) anime TV series will premiere on the NTV network at 1:29am on April 4. The 13 episode series will be the first weekly Lupin III anime in 27 years. Sayo Yamamoto (Michiko to Hatchin) will direct, marking the first time a female director has helmed any Lupin anime. Redline director Takeshi Koike will serve as animation director and character designer. Mari Okada (AnoHana) will provide series composition. The series will reportedly be set during the yearly days of the Lupin gang, highlighting the “sensuality” of Monkey Punch’s original manga.
I heard about this a while ago, but given that they said last year they were doing a new series and it turned out to just be the annual movie, I didn't bother saying anything… especially since it had a subtitle.
But there you go, new lupin show. even if its short, and based more closely on the early material (which I'm less of a fan of than what the animated ironed out eventually) I'm still excited. I guess its for the 40th anniversary?
...Does it have to be Fujiko centric?
-
I'm pretty excited for this. I loved Lupin III back in the day. Castle of Cagliostro in particular is a fantastic movie.
