If that's Vegapunk I'm gonna be dispointed, since I want Vegapunk to be the big bad of the next arc.
BUT I don't want him to be another Spandam, but rather a decently badass dude in his own right

Nice observation there, but I find it kinda strange.Since Vegapunk is with Marine's side, it would be strange to help a Pirate.Though, we can't know if the Marines knew about Wapol's true id, I mean he was both a king and a pirate.
If this guy turn out to be Vegapunk, I would be dissapointed.I imagine Vegapunk as a real weirdo and this guy doesn't look that weird.
Not only that, the last volume of the ministory is "The Rebirth of Terrible Power!! Wapol's Insignia Stretches to All Corners of the Earth" in which Wapol's toy manifacturer has become a multinational
How is it confirmed that Kuma the lowest ranking Shichibukai? Jimbeji's may have been 20 million, if he was equal with Arlong before becoming a Shichibukai. And Blackbeard's was ZERO.
If anything, Blackbeard's the lowest ranking by your standards.
How hilarious it would be if Vegapunk was just "Slim Fast Wapol" who ate a Teddy Bear and loads of trash to create Kuma.
If the Marines had been aware of Arlong's plan to take over the East Blue, I'm sure his bounty would've been at least two or three times what it was.
A person's bounty never will be a completely accurate indicator of a person's strength. Yeah, Blackbeard's former bounty is 0 berries, but that's because, save for Drum, he didn't go around making his prescence known, not 'cause he's weak. The World Government most likely keeps an eye on high profile pirates that could be potential Shichibukai. They could've seen Jimbei goin' around early in his career, seen his work, and thought ''We need to get this guy. He could be useful.''

Go read Crossword's post ya smug troll. The chances of Jimbei having that bounty (currently, I hope you mean in the past, cause that's reasonable) are low.
I'll tell you this first, I wasn't talking about Crocodile, Blackbeard, or Moria at all.
Kuma can't be the lowest ranked Shichibukai. At the manga he was introduced as "Royal Shichibukai" and we haven't seen yet an other with the same name. So I bet Kuma is most likely the highest ranked Shichibukai we have seen so far.
SMUG TROLL.
What harsh words for our friend Lobster.

WTF are you bubbling about… There was never something about a ROYAL Schchibukai...

Their full title is Ouka Shichibukai. Among other things, including another word for Sakura, it can mean imperial, or royal. So basically, the "Seven Imperial Seas".
Wasn't that translated around the time Franky House/whatever Scan Group made someone unfamiliar to One Piece to translate the series?
Ok Ok maybe but it doesn't say that Kuma is a high or low level Schichibukai like Rukawa said
The name of chapter 473 is "Royal Shichibukai Kuma Bartholemew Kuma Appears". You should check it yourself http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/473/
Also he is called by that again here http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/473/13/
And sorry my bad.He is not the only one at this rank.Moria got the same rank with him
Don't know why but I think it's just a wrong translation… FFAce gave a good explanation!
If it is like you said, so why Moria was so unaware!?
Ok Ok maybe but it doesn't say that Kuma is a high or low level Schichibukai like Rukawa said
Uh, I said that.
To clear it up, I'm just saying that I assume that Kuma is probably weaker then the future shichibukai, Domflamino, Mihawk, and Blackbeard. Maybe the unknown one too, I can't really say.
Really have to stop talking speculation so seriously. It's not like it's fact.

Never talked about your theory… Just talking about the thing with the ROYAL
Never talked about your theory… Just talking about the thing with the ROYAL
Ah sorry, did you change it? I could have sworn that "high level" wasn't there a second ago.
Kuma being a gigantic fucking robot make him all the better.
And Zoro continues to impress me this arc, regardless of his stoic LOOK I'M A BADASS LOOK.
Oh, isn't 'royal' the 'ouka' part of Ouka Shichibukai? Or did that only apply to him?
Ah sorry, did you change it? I could have sworn that "high level" wasn't there a second ago.
Well sorry but I changed nothing
We usually see the name Shichibukai, and with the word "royal" in front of it , I thought that it would make him higher ranked, my bad. I think Fire Fist Ace cleared this thing up(thanks btw). And yea Kaimei it was translated by a group called "KaNx"
Really Gecko has uber powers at any time during the day. He steals your shadow with sun around, Your dead outright. I have no idea how he lost in the new world. His power is way to insane. Maybe Don Flamingo kicked his ass, with him being able to control Moria.
what do u guys say about Mihawk vs Blackbeard?
Assuming mihawk has no devil fruit powers
Still i think it will be an even fight…since shanks got his scar from BB himself, before even getting his Devil fruit power (im not even sure about that it hasn't been stated anywhere as far as im concerned).
Holy shit. After Zoro told Kuma he'd exchange his life for Luffys, I literally stopped breathing until the end of the chapter.
I just hope everything'll be alright.
I'm glad Oda did that all in one chapter rather than extending it and leaving us with a huge cliff hanger.
One thing I'm wondering though is what did it mean by 'Realization of a Man'? I dunno, maybe I'm just a dumbass or something lol.

Kaidou kicked his ass and Gecko Moria stated that he lost because he didnt used his power to its full extend.
Moria without his tricks & Doppelman is a pretty weak fighter assuming it could be hard to cut of a shadow while getting beaten badly…
Anyway, the last 7 chapters had been simply amazing, what a way to end this supposedly boring arc.

Agreed. The only thing that could make this better now is Brook joining the crew.
About Brooke coming back from the afterlife, wasnt that because of the Devil Fruit?
I rly dont see how that proves there's an afterlife in the OP world. We have yet to see any ACTUAL ghost or paranormal situations.

Anyone else hoping to see Smoker and Tashigi again soon?
Anyone else hoping to see Smoker and Tashigi again soon?
I don't know why, but I wanted this to happen during this arc. I was actually hoping Thriller Bark ran into some Marine Ships which happen to have these two on board. The Marines including these two would board TB, and see what happened on the island and find the SH beat the crap outta Moria and others. This would give way for everyone besides Luffy to get a bounty increase (and maybe a better picture for Sanji)
(I was hoping Tashigi saw Zoro fight Kuma, and also saw how he attained a legendary sword. That would have made her wet her panties… :P )

Some more Zoro/Tashigi interaction would be good. Tashigi being all like: what a nice sword you have, and Zoro'd be like: Yeah, it's real heavy… No but seriously, another fight or something would be cool. Maybe Tashigi realizing that just cause Zoro's a pirate doesn't make him a total asshole.
Anyone else hoping to see Smoker and Tashigi again soon?
We already saw them recently. That means we won't get to see them again until a gazillion more chapters. :x
@Lobster:

They had like a one second cameo, that doesn't really count. Their real interaction with the plot hasn't been since the Alabasta arc. They're due.
@lil:
didnt oda say if a human ate the humanhuman fruit it would make you really smart? vegapunk must have eaten it… obviosly...
didnt chopper eat that fruit?

Well, since Smoker said "I'll crush them in the new world" back in chapter439 my guess is that they'll make a reappearance whenever the Straw Hats enter the new world.
I'm more interested about what's up with Buggy when it comes to long time no seen cameos.
Nice chapter, I was worried for a moment. Instead, while I was worrying over Zoro, I laughed my ass off when Kuma made that beam in his mouth. I immediately thought "SHOOP DA WHOOP"and ruined the whole mood of the chapter for myself. Sorry if someone already brought that stupidity up already, but I'm too lazy to look through 24 pages of discussion.
On another note, I want to see some stuff on Buggy or Ace in the near future. I'm getting curious.
I'm expecting a lot of drama to come from this. Especially between Sanji and Zoro.
@Mr.:
Kuma being a gigantic fucking robot make him all the better.

Oh, isn't 'royal' the 'ouka' part of Ouka Shichibukai? Or did that only apply to him?
Kuma is NOT a robot. He's a cyborg, AKA a cybernetic organism AKA a carbon-based lifeform with metal parts and technological advantages.

I'm hoping that they'll run into each other just before the Mugiwara enter the New World. It would be a neat echo of their first meeting, which was just before the Mugiwara entered Grand Line.
I still think that his new sword is somehow related to Shigure (her current sword) – the patterns are similar on the scabbard, the names are similar (both about "Autumn" and "water") etc. So maybe one is a refinement of the other, or one was a first forge and one was a second, or maybe both just made by the same person or for the same crew.
I'm guessing that she'll find out about it in her little sword encyclopedia and flip out, and that that will give her reason enough to want to chase him into the New World. And of course Smoker and Luffy will have had another run-in too, so Smoker will be eager to go there too.
But I don't think they'll actually have another sword fight until a long time later. Just before -- or just after -- the fight with Mihawk. She could actually be a harder fight for him then Mihawk, because he's already psyched up to fight Mihawk, whereas all he has to do is see Tashigi and he turns into a screaming, fuming emotional mess, so she's got that advantage over him, even if she isn't as strong as he is.
Tashigi fans have been waiting so long to see her again -- but at least not as long as Coby fans had to wait to see him again!
Both Tashigi's sword and Zoro's Shuusui are two of the 21 Wazamono swords.
Both Tashigi's sword and Zoro's Shuusui are two of the 21 Wazamono swords.
Yes, but a closer connection than that : from the same forge, or something.
They just seem too similar not to be "related"
– the swords, that is.
Urrgh! With all of this discussion about Shigure and Shuunsui, I'm getting hyped up for Wano Country! And there's no guarantee that the Strawhats will even visit it! Although there isn't any basis for it, I imagine Wano to be home to some of the best swordsmiths (and thus, the best swords) on the OPlanet. Sure, I'd love to learn more of the history behind Wadou Ichimonji and the Curse of the Kitetsu, but honestly I just want to see more cool sword designs.

As FFA already said, the Royal comes from the term "Oka" from the full term "Oka Shichibukai". So far ALL Shichibukai have been labeled like that in the japanese version. It was only inconsistent translations that ignored the first part making it appear as if it is just "Shichibukai". But the "Oka/Ouka" was always there. Even Sir Crocodile was an "Oka Shichibukai".
Technically it actually means "below the king" which with a bit of translators freedom can be taken as "royal". So basically "Oka Shichibukai" means "below the king, seven armed seas". I prefer Oka Shichibukai though. Royal Shichibukai is the dumbest possible version IMO because the first part of the name gets translated while the second part doesn´t. Poor translating skills IMO.

王下七武海
王下 = Oka
七武海 = Shichibukai
Then who is the king?
Does it means Shichibukai lower grade than Cobra (a king)?
When the HELL did he state that? I knew he said he lost..but he never said anything about powers..
First time when Luffy confronted him in the freezing chamber ("I have learned not to get personally involved in the fights" or something in this way) and then when he was yapping about his beloved crew which was killed in the New World. (ch 381, pg. 10 : My Nakama were lost to me precisely because they where still alive. If they had been Zombies dead right from the start, i would have lost nothing!) Especially the secound statement gives us the hint that Moria wasnt fighting with an zombie army before (aside of the fact that he met Hogback afterwards) and thus not with the full potential of his devil fruit.
both translations from franky house.
Moria wasnt fighting (…) with the full potential of his devil fruit.
Thus we conlude that Kaido <moria and="" since="" moria<kuma="" we="" already="" have="" at="" least="" three="" shickibuki,="" counting="" mihawk,="" that="" are="" equal="" to="" or="" above="" emperor="" level.<br="">Emperors aren't what they used to be.</moria>

not at all, since we do not know how strong morias crew was. Assuming Moria got Shichibukai after beeing defeated by Kaidou it is safe to assume that Kaidou (back then!) was lower or equal SHs present level but nothing said about possible upgrades of Kaidou crew.
Maybe Moria also simply got weaker thru stress and age?
So what's with the "I know your powers, Kuma" that Moria said? It disappeared to the dust?
So what's with the "I know your powers, Kuma" that Moria said? It disappeared to the dust?
Nothing should have changed with that, it's just that the two never got a chance to use their abilities against each other…or rather never had a reason too. But yeah, if that's right then Moria knows about the Pacifista...curious huh? I'm really hoping Moria gets a chance to talk again.
Also, I think everyone is reading too deeply into that Moria statement. It's a much simpler scenario that Kaidou beat Moria at about the same power he is now. Otherwise, why wouldn't he go back a kill Kaidou now if he's stronger? It doesn't maker sense.
Moria himself wasn't any stronger, but he thought he could defeat Kaidou this time because he had Oz with him. He didn't have zombies until Hogback joined him, after all. He also probably couldn't use Shadow Asgard because he didn't have a ton of shadows available to him at the time.
And to the "Moria comment" about Kuma, I think it's just clear that Kuma has other moves he can do with his power.
