"You are aware though that South Park IS social commentary? Right?"
Only in recent years, and I don't find it to be particularly good social commentary. I might have liked the Terri Schiavo episode had I not have been showered with it for months beforehand. The point they made was really nothing new and something I had been saying for a long time.
The Douche vs. Turd episode was kind of dumb (regarding whatever point they wished to make), but still had funny things (despite how they felt the need to bash PETA for no apparent reason). "Bush and kerry suck" Tell us something new.
When South Park first started to become more of a satire, I really did love it. But now it feels to me that it's trying waaay too hard, not just on that front, but on the "gross out/vulgar" humor too. Mr. Garrison running around saying "I HAVE A VAGINA I WISH I HAD A TAMPON BECAUSE I THINK I'M GOING THROUGH MY PERIOD" isn't funny, it's just annoying. Kyle's dad wanting to be a dolphin was funny as hell though.
The best now are the "non-serious" episodes, though. Like the Bat Dad and when Cartman traps Butters in a shack to go to Casa Bonita.
But this is just my jaded opinion. I'm pretty sick of television in general at the moment; I don't even turn on Comedy Central to try to watch the Daily SHow, possibly because I run a high risk of catching some awful POS like Mind of Mencia, Blue Coller TV, Drawn Together, or Adam Corolla. If you enjoy South Park, then the more power to you, enjoy it. I'm just saying I have no interest in the series anymore.
