Yes, both Funimation and Toei have seperate panels on the same day.
The Official Funimation One Piece Thread (Airs Sept. 29!) Read First Post

It's gonna be a great day for "One Piece" fans at AX, even without a big announcement. CosmicDebris, do you think it would be O.K. to start a "One Piece at Anime Expo" thread?
-
Why not use the Anime Expo thread instead, firecroutch?
-
Well I don't know about FUNimation, but on July 1st Toei Animation, Inc. is holding a discussion panel entirely dedicated to "One Piece". Eisaku Inoue, Konosuke Uda, and Justin Cook will be there, and you can bet I will too.
Justin Cook eh? From what I've seen, he has been the fan-favorite for Sanji.

Two notes from me:
-
Crispin Freeman should voice Zoro. No exceptions.
-
Steven Blum should voice Franky. Also no exceptions.
-
-
…...........
Rather than argue with you about Steven Blum voicing Franky, I'd like to ask you why you think he's right to voice the mugiwara cyborg. And your post belongs in the ideal dub voices thread.

@Gerchak:

I disagree with both of those, however the second one moreso. Although Crispin Freeman could make a good Zoro,I know there's better.EDIT: Scratch that, Crispin Freeman could make an amazing Zoro. And as for Steve Blum… I just don't see it happening. But what clinches that they're not going to be doing ANY straw hat is the fact that they both live in California. The dub is being produced in Texas. But yes, this does belong in the Ideal Voices thread.

-
So the big announcement will be on July 1st? Awesome! That's 2 things to look forward to on that day. The announcement and my birthday!
-
Someone started a One Piece thread on FUNimation's forums. They don't have their own One Piece forum yet, but a majority of the posts in that thread are pure crap. It's saddening how negatively people react.
-
But yes, this does belong in the Ideal Voices thread.
Then what exactly would there be to talk about in this thread?
-
Then what exactly would there be to talk about in this thread?
How things might/should/will be handled for the TV dub, and what you think should be on the DVD releases. And once the actual dub starts, and the voices are announced, there will be tons to discuss.

We're all here :) http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=6444&page=6

Going back to the actual discussion, it's going to be really weird to watch the episodes with the original music/uncut with English voices. I'm so used to hearing the Japanese voices it's going to become slightly difficult to adjust. What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

I imagine the experience will be almost surreal at first.

Not to sound arrogant, but I think it'll be weird at first if the voices aren't those of the respective actors that I've envisioned.
I usually have voices come to my mind whenever I read manga, so I have pretty strong convictions about which actor using whichever voice goes to character x. But thats another topic….
I'm really looking foward to the new dub. Especially since most (or all) of the staff working on the new dub also did Fullmetal Alchemist, and I consider that one of the best English dubs in the history of forever.

I lol'd. Optimus Prime and Megatron FTW

I wonder if the opening they use will be just music or if it'll have lyrics to it. That is, if it's an original piece by funi themselves. It would be cool if they did translated japanese openings, or just untranslated sub openings for the dub.
-
Funi should do the japanese opening with the japanese songs since they are at Jaya saga they would do Bon Voyage

Actually, Bon Voyage didn't start until mid-Skypiea. Hikari E will be the first dubbed opening if FUNi decides to keep the Japanese themes, which they most likely will.
As I've said before, I hope they dub the songs into English. I've wanted to hear We Are! in English for the longest time and 4Kids' unused version doesn't count.
July 1st is the when the big news will be revealed? Awesome due to the fact that it's on my birthday.

Stop stealing Oda's crack.

Hehe, I once thought of putting the Prime v. Megs audio dialogue from TF:TM on Luffy and one of the villains during a fight scene.
"One shall stand, one shall fall!"
I'm really trying not to have any expectations. It could be fabulously done, it could still end up sounding bleh to me. But I am very much looking forward to it.
-

Actually, they're going to have to eventually. Don't forget about the one opening they used with the Straw Hats singing it. It'd be weird if they left it in Japanese. Though while they're at it, I think they should just translate every other song too.
-

Of course, if they translate the songs, we are bound to get We Are sooner or later. Either through the five crappy flashback-episodes, or when they go back to redub the East Blue and Baroque-works arcs.
-
I have very little desire to have Funi dub the songs. Not that I have anything against it. It doesn't really matter one way or the other beyond what they're spending their resources on.
-
I personally would not like to see any dubbed songs myself. You have to remember that a decent number of anime have songs sung by the cast, but nobody ever dubs those into English.
-
I want them to dub the openings, and use them. It would be complete win, and great to have an english version of the great opening songs. Especially eventually Kokoro no Chizu!
Plus, what else would they play when going up the knock up stream than We Are?
-

The We Are instrumental, maybe? But I hope that they'll translate them too.

The Japanese version of We Are?

Oh and some American cartoon art might be good but it always pales in comparison to japanese anime. I mean they really take it seriously there, it's a huge entertainment industry. Just by compariosn, you can see how superior it is.
You were making an argument against being elitest then you went and made this huge elitest "OMGZ Japanese is BETTAR" statement at the end. :
I understand what you mean, but Japanese doesn't automatically equal better. I've seen a ton of crap anime. And overall comics and animation are taken more seriously in france than in Japan. The overall view of anime in Japan is still kinda a mostly for kids things. Manga is abut more accepted but it's still not completely a hobby to be proud of, even tho everyone reads manga over there apparently. -
Metalvirus, if they used We Are for the Skypeia arc, don't you think it would be a little weird that Chopper and Robin would be absent in the opening?
Also, where did you get your avatar? I like it. Is that supposed to be L as Luffy?
-
Let's just hope that this big announcement in July isn't gonna be that they're gonna dub openings because that would be a major dissapointment after all this hype of what it could be.
Now to Aokiji, my problem was with your elitist views of what makes an anime fan. And I know some Japanese anime suck, some american cartoons suck as well but when it comes to comparing all the anime of Japan and all the cartoons of America, Japan is better. The body has well defined structure, the plots are serious and complicated, the action is awesome, they characters have 5 fingers not 4>.> Their style is different but the Japanese style is better IMO depending greatly on the fact, I believe that they take manga and anime seriously there or at least more seriously than the americnas take their cartoons. Over there, it's the football games that are important and the soap operas and the reality tv shows like America's Next Top model>.> Man I hate that show.

I think he met the episode where we are is playing in the background when they go up the knockup stream. Not the actual opening itself.
-
wow, I dunno what to say now. I'm actually a bit scared to post. But oh well. =D I think they shouldn't dub the openings, I don't want to hear any of them in english. >.< And does anyone know what exactly they're going to announce on July 1st? And where exactly are they announcing this? e_e
-
To Pass the Rootbeer-
Haha I didnt mean use the opening for the show, but the opening music for when Going Merry is shot up in the sky. You know, like they did in the original version. And about my avy, yesh it is L Luffy. I actually do not know who made it (I could not find it) but I got it from (ashamed to say this) this topic- http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=228515

Wow. After posting that, I thought of the same exact thing.

Doooo eeeeet!
As for the openings and endings…I don't really care whether they dub them or keep them Japanese. I like some of Funimation's dubbed openings. Just as long as they are still the same songs with the same animation sequences.
-
Doooo eeeeet!
I have the One Piece clips, but I don't have a DVD ripper to get the audio. Sad face.
-
heh, i just found this amusing, I just logged in for the first time to Funi forums and it says:
Your last login was: (NEVER).
Dunno if I'll post, but we'll see when OP starts.
EDIT:
welp posted, I just had to yell at some of the idiots ^_^; -
What did they do and what did you say?
-
What did they do and what did you say?
They were complaining about the lollipop. There haven't been replies to Quexinos' post, so I figure they're all sitting at home butthurt.
-
Aaah…the FUNi forums. That was my first forum when I joined the internet back in 2003. It was a different forum back then tho than it is now tho.
I lived on that forum, I remember having over 16,000 posts and being the top poster. XD
My spelling, grammar, and everything else was so bad back then. XD
-

I REALLY hope that they keep Japanese Kokoro no Chizu… I could adjust to an english one, but the Japanese version of it just has a kind of impact that goes with the opening animation, ya know? They'll have a job trying to get that same feeling with the English one. If they do, I'll be really impressed.
-
I'm pretty sure that Kokoro no Chizu is a given, when they get up to that part. (At least on the DVDs). On that note, I'll be really pleased if any of the openings air on TV.
-
Cartoon Network hasn't had a problem showing original Japanese openings on Toonami (Bobobo, Naruto, and Prince of Tennis all kept theirs, Naruto even got subtitles!) so hopefully Funi will see that and keep the original openings for One Piece.
-
Again, Naruto is the cash cow. So of course it's gonna get original Japanese opening with subtitles.
-
Thanks for the link MetalVirus. I just got a new sig XD
[EDIT: For some reason it didn't show up in this post :S . You should check my profile. It highlights the stupidty of the NarutoFan users in one quote]
-
I'd really like for them to dub the themes. The japanese themes are awesome, and they would be able to put both on the uncut DVDs. Soo everyone wins, I think.
-

The Prince of Tennis did not retain its original opening on the TV cut.
-
If Funi does decide to dub the opening I hope they go more the Yu Yu Hakusho way with using the actual music and lyrics somewhat similar to the original and not the DBZ way where they just say the title of the show over and over.
