It's a bit disappointing.. Moria's appearance changing.. and his former bounty..
Like someone else had mention; the hardest battle mugiwara's will face is against their own mirror..
After i read this chapter, i bet Moria not that much powerful, same league as Luffy. Also his subordinate; Absalom, Perona, DR. Hogback are around Bellamy level. Mugiwara's will fight at least 2 or more enemy[yup].. I assume the true boss is Zombie#900, Ryuma, Jigoroh, Mario? and [ZG's]..
Chapter 455 "King of the Depths: The Shichibukai - Gekko Moria" Discussion
-
-
Moria will change somehow and look awesome.
But this initial design is just…..laughably terrible. He's a penis with a sack of balls.
Oda obviously wanted to emulate Nightmare Before Christmas' Oogey Boogey (sp) but it just turned out awful. The revelation of his true abilities can't come fast enough.
-
I don't think Oda goofed up on the different teeth. Somethings definatley up with Moria.
-
From Stephen's scripts
Brooke:And a patchwork corpse, which they called a "mario."
Notice: Moria:Shichibukai
Mario: corpsesswitch the letters around Moria->Mario tada!
-
Ah, so zombie's are called Marios, or just Moria's written differently. Hehe.
-
In Japanese they use completely different characters though.
-

Really? Oh well, just thought it was interesting. Cool coincidence in english though.
-
I shall call him Dildo Head.
why does this situation/comment remind me of a Family Guy episode where Peter Griffin introduces a vibrateing cucumber like toy that comes with docmartin shoe accessories and a cap looking suspiciously much like a rolled up condom.
(Mr weeds reaction to that toy was hilarious)
-

Could it be a language specific anagram, Greg, like how Alucard is an anagram for Dracula in English only?
For that matter, do anagrams even work in Japanese?
But yeah, I think that thing is a mask, or he's a sack of shadows or something weird. Originally, his dental structure and size made him a lot like Saul, but now… he looks retarded.
-
Hmm….I wonder...you think Moria have 2 faces? Iunno this came to mind. It could explain why his face is a lil different from before.
-
Moria has razor teeth and an arrow-shaped nose similar to Arlong's. Since the Strawhats are on their way to Mermen Island, could Moria possibly be a Merman? o_O
-
@Fire Fist:
For that matter, do anagrams even work in Japanese?
Yes. If they're Japanese anagrams.
-
finally read chapter 447-455 Jeez, that wasn't as entertaining as I wanted. I was spoiled on everything by people talking outside this place as well as avatar and signatures. But that's to be expected.
And yeah, no way in hell is Brooke joining.
-
Hey, you know what? When Brooke cut Taleran up, and his shadow/soul left his body? It was kind of like….dying. In One Piece.
-
Kind of like dying, but not dying.
-
Taleran couldn't die, he was already dead.

why would you say brook is not joining what proof is there
-
And yeah, no way in hell is Brooke joining.
I really hope your not just saying that because Brook is a swordsman…:getlost: Basically, that's like saying there can't be more than one woman on the crew, but that happened.
Otherwise, dang no spoilers today. 900 is going to be really interesting. -
most likly the spoiler will come late tonight or tomarrow afternoon
i picture 900 going to be allsome -
i predict first impressions of 900 will be like those of Moria and then he'll grow on people.
-
Gorlom, if Roger is number 900, I doubt anyone is going to be disappointed. Gold Roger really needs to be shown more. I mean, after 455 chapters, not even his EYES are shown. We need more of him.
-
i predict you are going to be SOOO dissapointed at first moria. i think there is slim to none chance that we are going to see a roger zombie.
-

No, Roger is a legend, he must not appear with scars and dead teeth… We'll see him in a flash-back, nothing else. Imagine a Luffy-zombie, twenty years after his death... Would he still be the pirate king in everybody's heart ? Well, that's the same for Roger.
900 is Teach that has been killed by Ace !
-
900 is Luffy's mom!!!
Sorry i couldnt help it =P
-
Actually, #900 is much more plausible than Blackbeard. I mean, a person who poses a huge threat, with one of the best devil fruits, who just gets wiped out, and not even by luffy? Blackbeard obviously beat Ace. If he didn't, there was no point for him being added to the story.
The thing I really want to know is… possibly could Ace be #900. I mean, if Teach wanted to suck up, he might give the corpse to Moria. Just a thought.
EDIT : I know this is offtopic, but what ever happened to Johnny and Yosaku... -
I agree with Greg….Moria's design's disgusting.....
But the end of thechapter was suspenseful....I wanna see what happens to Luff......!
Perona's awesome. But, then again, she looks and acts a bit like a human version of one of my RP chars, and part of said char's appearance was inspired by Peroner....
-
"I'm MORIA AND I HAVE NO CHIN AREN'T I BADASS :B"
I love how silly Moria looks in comparison to Leopard Lucci. And Leopard Lucci was pretty lulz-tastic, I think.
-
Right now, there are no named candidates for 900 in my book.
The older villians are either too weak or they've been "cracked". (Arlong as 900, for example, is just not a threat to a crew of this calibre; and Crocodile, we know the blood trick.)
The recent villians are spoken for in place. The logistics of getting them to Thriller Bark ahead of the Strawhats are an issue.
Of "still alive" foes, it cannot be a Shichibukai or former Admral without getting a lot of angry looks from the Government.
And Teach and Ace were simply elsewhere.
Theory: perhaps 900 is/was a Yonkou and they have their own power crisis.
-
I just started to wonder now. We can, with some safety, assume that an individual's Devil Fruit powers don't transfer over to a zombie powered by their Shadow. However, what if the zombie possessed a Devil Fruit? Would their body still possess the DF power even after death?
-

Otherwise, dang no spoilers today. 900 is going to be really interesting.I am frankly starting to think this as well–that Brooke isn't joining. It's all tied to Zoro. His opponent is always the strongest opponent in the arc. Jigorou looks like a joke, and Ryuma is...most likely weaker then Brooke. After all, Brooke displayed the same technique as Ryuma, so as the original of his sword art Brooke may be superior.
So, that makes Brooke the strongest swordsman on the island. I don't know how, but it's possible that Brooke could pull a Kaku--as unpopular the idea might be.

You're right! Chins do portray strength don't they? Think about it. Croc had a chin, Enel had a chin, and Lucci had a chin. Yeah….
But, it OP there's always hope that Moria can transform or something. This current appearance may become "complete and awesome" when Moria uses his power or some hidden ability. Kind of like Blackbeard unveiling his darkness fruit. His character design and that power's appearance kind of go together I think.
-
sgamer82: think only Brooks DF power stays intact after death… havent we theorised that devilfruits "regrow" or something after the original user dies?
B1B: really doubt Moria has a former yonkou... that would be TOO powerful. and Moria would probably not be able to controll the flesh.
Moria: If teach was close by wouldnt he claim luffy?
-
sgamer82: think only Brooks DF power stays intact after death… havent we theorised that devilfruits "regrow" or something after the original user dies?
That me be so about Brook, but I'm specifically referring to zombies made from the bodies of DF users. While Devil Fruit may, in normal circumstances, regrow after a User's death, that doesn't mean a DF user brought back from the grave can't still use their power. It strikes me as a very "Exception to the Rule" situation.
At worst, it could depend on the power in question and what the requirements are of the body using it. For instance, how accurately can a decomposing body use the Mane-Mane Fruit? or a Zoan?
-
no spoiler yet? is their a chapter for this week?
-
hehe what is a mane mane fruit? for us that dont speak japaneese that is.
-
I kinda like Moria's design, I must say. It's cool, in a wierd way. Besides, the horror-themed bad guy should be a little freaky lookin'. Plus, the face laces give off a big Spawn vibe…
Also, I don't think Moria has two faces, as much as it is Oda probably not having finished Moria's design at the time his shadowed face appeared. Then again, I could be wrong, but much of this arc feels like Oda had "better ideas" in the middle of it. Can't blame him, though, he took what would've been an average arc, and made it awesome. Still, though, much of it feels improvised.
-

Wasn't that Bon Clay's Clone-Clone Fruit?
-
@Pass:
Wasn't that Bon Clay's Clone-Clone Fruit?
Yes. In Japanese it's Mane-Mane Fruit (Mane = Mime/Mimic). In hindsight, maybe it's nto the best example, as it created an exact copy of the original person. But then maybe a zombie version would create zombie clones? shrugs
@MonkeyDMalcolm:

Isn't it still a bit early for spoilers? Generally the earliest I ever see or expect them is Tuesday.

Hey, wait a minute! Didn't the mayor in the "Nightmare before Christmas" switch between two faces?
There's a thought…
-
Oda definitely had the design finished long ago. He tends to draw shadowed characters somewhat awkward/strangely. He does it in such a way that afterwards we go, "Oh, I see."
I imagine this is so because Oda tends to incorporate may aspects of their original design into either their ability in battle or defeat.
Early on I don't think he was quite so particular, but when you see a character like Wanze who he tried many things with (even different sexes) and then made him into a freak whom the key point in defeating was turning him into a bishie nightmare by Sanji's kicks.
Check out Franky's shadowed regent where he first removes his mask. It's crazy lookin'. But he did that on purpose to throw us off.
Regardless of our take on him, I think we can all agree we haven't seen all he has to offer and there are plenty of surprises waiting.
Super fanboy theory.
Moria's shadow is controlling the…whatever the hell it is. The real Moria died but transfered his shadow and will use his old body, 900, to do his dirty work.
Overly complex and reeks of shonen manga but I would love it.
-
I wonder what Moria's face without a mask would look like?
-
Again, I'm gonna say this one more time:
What reason is there for Brooke to not go with the SH? His crewmates are dead and he is trapped alone in the darkness fog. With his shadow retrieved, why would he go out alone into the sea when he can go with the SH who accept him as their friend? Think of this before saying BROOKE NO WAY JOIN IN HELL!!!! WE HAVE SWORDSMAN ALREADY!!! LOL!!!!
-
Even though taking pot shots at the identity of 900 seems to of stopped, i'm going to offer one last suggestion: Shanks. He seems like a viable option to me because way back in volume 4's SBS, Oda never distinctly stated Shanks' current age, rather mentioning his age when he was in Luffy's village.
As for Moria's face, i don't think it's a mask, if only because i can't see where it might end. Hell, maybe Moria actually has two heads, something like that guy from Total Recall.
-
Are you saying that zombie 900 will be Shank, even though we know he's well alive?
-
Oh, wait. Shit. I was thinking of something else. So much for my gound-breaking, insightful remark. Well, still, i think Shanks is a zombie of some kind.
Incidently, onemoment's comment got me to thinking about 'A Nightmare Before Christmas', and i have to say that Brook reminds me of Jack Skellington, through the obvious skeleton similarity, the body shape, the dark outfit, and the generally jovial, carefree nature, and Cindry reminds me of Sally, what with the scars and being Dr. Hogback's assistant/creation.
-
I think Brook is highly likely to join.
I also suspect the point about “he can’t because we’d have two swordsmen” is somewhat moot; my suspicion being that Brook in fact uses sound as his weapon. Hence Ryuuma (the zombie with Brook's soul) in chapter 450 using an attack “combining humming and walking 10 feet” according to hogback and the name of chapter 454 “The Humming”. If Oda chooses to explain it then my bet is that it has something to do with resonance. This theory also fits with Brook being a musician, therefore it wins .

… your reasoning wins ... (cause it´s like mine)
-
I remember coming up with a theory that the song Brooke sang before he attacked Tararan had something to do with the move he used.
-
i think that resonance fighting style would be very awesome
and even if he is just a good swordsman, it is still possible that he could join
damn look at all those big pirate crews, they all have like 30 people,
who can handle a sword ><beside if brook joined the crew, would not it be cool to see
zoro and brook training all day on the deck? -
And Brooke would keep on spouting bone jokes!
Seriously, we also need someone on the crew who likes to tell jokes. -
