I've been confussed by this, which why is the right way to type his name? I notice hes called Enel alot but Eneru turns up more results etc..
So is it spelled Eneru and said Enel or vise versa or what?

i say enel or ener. I'm going more towards enel but idk. I havent called him eneru tho just ener.
How bout Enelu?
Seriously though, there is support for both out there.
Ener - ENERgy
Enel - Enel-Rak, which I believe is related to Gods. I can't remember, so I hope someone else does.
Well, K-F translates it as "Enel", but the scanlation I read translated it to Eneru. I just call him Enel, though
I call him Enel aswell, but what made me reconsider that was this.
http://images.google.com/images?q=Enel&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images <- Enel
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=Eneru&btnG=Search <- Eneru
Aswell as someone poking fun and calling him "Anal".
I thought K-F's reasoning for calling him Enel sounded good. I'm not sure if his name has ever been seen romajinized by Oda.
The only romanization I've seen for it is in Bandai's games (Enel). I just go with Enel, there seems to be more backing for it.
The finding about his origin as a god was very interesting and that might fit in there as well, but since many of his attacks are based around lightning-gods or electricity in general, it seems most logical that a localization as Ener mainly gives tribute to the energy
of the name, but can also relate to the god in question. Personally so long as we all know who were talking about and there has been no concrete consistant spelling in English from Oda himself, it doesn
t matter.
I have question is it gan fall or gan farr
I think it was Gan Forre…
So Enel or Ener?
I think it was Gan Forre…
So Enel or Ener?
Dude, no-one knows. Oda's neverspelled his name out in plain English. I personally prefer Enel because it sounds cooler, and in that same respect God>energy, but whatever. It doesn't really matter.
You could call him Eleneruu and he would still be the same guy.
@Cap'n:

I heard about that, but then doesn't one of the games spell Franky "Flanky"? (going against the manga's obvious spelling)
Well, Gan Fall is Gan Fall, because if you think about how Japanese grammar works, you'll know that pronounciation of a character remains the same, so in a katakana translation of Gan Fall, it would be read . The first character reading "Ga" the second reading "n" the dot meaning that you have a pause of silence, the third and fourth characters read togother would sound like "Fo", the fifth meaning you extend the previous sound for a little longer, and the last character reading "ru". These characters could be translated into "Gan Forre", "Gan Forr", "Gan Forru", "Gan Follu" (although this one is extremely unlikely). So as you can see, there are several romanizations of any combination of Japanese characters, so the best resource you can have is some sort of romanization created by Oda. Anyone else would be just too unreliable. However I believe that K-F is doing an incredibly good job translating the names, considering how hard it is.
My answer to "Enel vs. Ener" is, while "Enel", "Ener", and "Eneru" are all perfectly acceptable translations, I believe that "Enel" is the one that would make most sense in english.
I heard about that, but then doesn't one of the games spell Franky "Flanky"? (going against the manga's obvious spelling)
Fighting For One Piece did that in the opening movie.
Strangely enough, it's "Franky" in the game itself.
The games COULD be a source of the English spellings. At least the Grand Battle games have been consistant.
I heard about that, but then doesn't one of the games spell Franky "Flanky"? (going against the manga's obvious spelling)
Ah ha ha "Flanky" XD I suppose that that definately shouldn't count, seeing as "Franky House" was everywhere.
"Flanky, hidden king of water 7!" XD I'm sorry I just can't get over it.
I say Ener or Eneru since I HATE how ENEL sounds.. it sounds like ANAL for the love of.. well.. Ener.
Yeah, I'm gonna say "Enel."
Sounds better and thats the spelling of it in Grand Battle Rush, and that game seems to have its romanizations together.
I used to go with Eneru.
Though, after seeing the games translate it as Enel,I'd go with that.
Ener = Play on the Word "Energy"
Enel = The Whole God Thing that was brought up earlier, AND a Mexican/Spanish Power company (IE electricity)
So I stick with Enel Because It Includes BOTH A Reference to him being God AND the Ref to electricity
and I beleive Gan Fall's Name is Gan Fall, for 2 Reasons. 1) It sounds better Than Gan Forr and 2) he used to be god but not anymore, so I see that As a "Fall" from from his Previous Position. I know im making a Connection where one Really doesnt Exhist, but that makes the name more concrete for me.
in that Game, The Reason they used "Flanky" (at least What i think it could be) is Because his name used to Be "Cutty Flam" or "Cutty Flan" and That's Where "Franky" came from ( Flan, Change L to R Gets Fran, add ky and You got Franky) so they just thought of it that way and Wrote "Flanky"
Enel it is, just don't like people in my Furcadia OP Dream poking fun and calling him Anal is all. I think Enel is a kickass name.
I go with Enel since it sounds more godly to me. There´s quite some biblic names that end with an el such as Michael, Daniel, Ariel, Gabriel or Ezechiel to name a few.
Another reason is that is almost sounds like the german term Engel which means Angel. Actually it doesn´t matter because either german or english the terms end with an "el".
To me Enel has much more of a godly vibe then Ener. It´s mostly a personal thing because that "er" ending is such a boring stereotype in comic books indostry same as the other two stereotypes like "or" and "man". The "el" ending sounds more exquisite for my tastes.
But nothing is a given until Oda gives a definite romaji naming in the manga.
Eneru, however seems totally out of place and if I remember correctly the old Null scanslations were the only ones that used that name. However Null has begun to re-release older volumes and they started with volume 26 in which they´ve got rid of Eneru, just as they´ve got rid of Valopu.
==========
As far as the former god is concerned. I have a problem with naming him Gan Fall. I have to problems with the seperate components of the name but the combination bites everytime I read it and listen to the pronounciation.
Fall is ok if you pronounce it the english way. Because then the a in Fall sounds the same as the o in Forr. But if you pronounce it english then the first name "Gan" has also have to be pronounced that way. And if you do that then the pronounciation of it is like the in the word began. And we all now that this pronounciation of Gan is wrong.
So if you want to stick with the Fall, then IMO the full name Gun Fall would make more sense in terms of an adecuate pronounciation. Either that or Gan Forr(e). Gan Fall bites just as Gun Forr would do.
well, i think enel is ok:
Mansur Al-Hallaj (c. 858-922) - One of the foremost Islamic Sufis (named for “suf”[wool] garments worn by disciples of Abu Sayyid, a forerunner of Sufism) who expressed ecstatic love for God, conceived as a unity of man/nature/cosmos. He was put to death for proclaiming "Enel Hak" (I am God), identifying himself, and everything else, with Allah.
You have not brought stinking members into the house of Amanti. Elleb Inam,Titep Notep, we name them to the Hall of Honour. Your head has been touched by the god Enel-Rah and your face has been brightened by the goddess Aruc-Ituc. Return, sainted youngling, and walk once more among us!
Enel clearly means God
I always thought Enel reffered to Electricity, learn something new everyday.
I STILL think it sounds like ANAL… haha god of anal....
Doesn't enel main Angel in some lang tho?..
I STILL think it sounds like ANAL… haha god of anal....
Doesn't enel main Angel in some lang tho?..
Everyone in my Furcadia Dream calls him anal, thats why I was trying to find out for sure if it was indeed spelled Enel.
in that Game, The Reason they used "Flanky" (at least What i think it could be) is Because his name used to Be "Cutty Flam" or "Cutty Flan" and That's Where "Franky" came from ( Flan, Change L to R Gets Fran, add ky and You got Franky) so they just thought of it that way and Wrote "Flanky"
I think they had two different teams working on it, and the people who created the intro had no knowledge of it being Franky.
I would choose Eneru… but if I have to choose Ener or Enel, then I'll go for Enel, cause Ener sounds like "enaa" for me while Enel would be "eneru."
For Gan Fall... ... Gun Fall... Gun Forre... Oh whatever. Not Forr though, from the same reasoning above.
@funkyfunkyusopp, Anal in Japanese is anaru. xD; Similar, isn't it?
I use Ener, simply because of the energy pun.
As far as the Enel Hak business goes, it's Hak that means Ruler or God, not Enel.

Enel-Rah is, if I'm not mistaken, from Finnegan's Wake, which means that it shouldn't be taken seriously as a word.
It's possible that Oda ran across the quote somewhere and picked up Enel from it. But saying that Enel is God is incorrect. On a side note, Enlil was the Babylonian God of the Sky, but it's obviously not that.
I used to go with Eneru, becuase that was the way I usually saw it spelled. But now I go with Enel, ever since I heard his name pronounced on the KF subs. I just don't hear a RU part of his name. (Kinda like Sauro vs. Saul, we won't know which is truly right until we hear his name spoken…)
I´m quite sure that Saul´s name will be pronounced "Sauro" in the anime. That however doesn´t mean that it has to be written Sauro.
Just think back of Smokers attack White Out. It´s clearly meant to mean White Out though his voice actor pronounces it "Whito Outo". Get where I´m aiming for?
I remember someone bringing up the fact that Enel is the name of an electric company in Italy. XD No, that has nothing to do with anything, but I thought it was funny.
I brought that up, although My knowledge of Languages sucks so I assumed it was Spanish… Regardless, since there is apparently Some Kind of God pun With Enel AND there's an Electric Company, I Think it's Enel
I STILL think it sounds like ANAL… haha god of anal....
We´re not blind. We got that in the first post already. You don´t have to repeat that on each page.
It´s ok if you say it once. But repeating it just 8 posts after your first one makes it really annoying and gives it an anal character itself.
Such stuff can really get me the wrong way. It´s not that much different from teenie talk, like when they´re using unintelligent statements like the famous "that´s gay" line.
Ok, while addressing him address him as Enel, while searching stuff like images for him use Eneru. Got it. XD
Its Enel Because In OP Grand Battle Rush In Ene
l Wanted It`s Wrote:"Enel" In English.
Besides, In Ganshopon Trophies It`s Written Enel Under His Trophy In English!
Just for everyone to know, the newest official Funimation English dub calls him God Eneru.
I prefer calling him Eneru though, since it's considered to be a play of words on energy and it sounds more like a monk's name (which Eneru's base design are based on eg. baggy pants and metal arm bands) than Enel.
I think Eneru is cooler since it sounds more complete but that's just me. :D
i guess it really depends on how many syllables you feel like speaking or have run through your brain.
i like both just fine… but i've seen Enel more commonly used. and that's what i usually say when referring to him.
The electric company and god references are pretty cool though guys.
I say Eneru because that's how the manga was translated and that's how i heard the characters say it in the anime.
But in all honesty, meh.
Another useless thread.
Dude, you need to get banned again.
I like to think Eneru stands for Energy Rush
it also sounds better than enel
It
s Enel Because In OP Grand Battle Rush In Ene
l Wanted It`s Wrote:"Enel" In English.Besides, In Ganshopon Trophies It`s Written Enel Under His Trophy In English!
"In the Japanese only game, Fighting for One Piece, Franky's name was misspelled and written as 'Flanky' in the introduction to the game."
you just can't trust japanese people and their wacky spelling
If "Eneru" is good enough for FUNimation, then it's good enough for me.
By that same logic Special Beam Cannon must be good for you too.
Why did someone resurrect this thread from the bowels of HELL? WHY?!
FTR, Ener is the name because the Funi translator as well as Greg both said, if they were going to translate it, that's what they'd use. The only reason it's Eneru in the tv dub is BECAUSE Bandai translated it that way in GB: Adventure.
The only reason this is up for debate is because Kaizoku translated it ENEL.
Translators don't always know the right answer and often just make educated gueses. There were TONS of diff romanizations for the name "Crona" in english until it recently appeared in english in thenew Soul Eater ending sequence.
I say Eneru… it's far better than Ener or Enel. Those are weird and awkward to pronounce. Eneru sort of rolls off the tongue.
As far as I'm concerned Enel is the correct romanization. It was even on the cover of an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump of him fighting Luffy with the title "ENEL VS. LUFFY". But all and all, we came to the conclusion that this is all a matter of preference, this thread didn't need bumped. It's probably gonna be locked now.

Why do people insist on using this as an argument? "Flanky" was only in the opening of Fighting for One Piece, in the rest of the game he's "Franky". Also, that was a "crappy" game. What I just mentioned was a WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP cover. If you dunno what that is, it's the magazine One Piece is printed in.
Its God Enel to me. God Enel bless us. Forgive these peons
