I watched that Pelican thing… and sat there for a moment wondering what I had just watched...
Anyway, a trailer came up for Little Nemo. XD

Even though it's not a Cartoon, it did air on Cartoon Network and it only had two episodes shown… it was that bad... was it mentioned?
It's not a cartoon
get out
edit: Also, if it's one thing I've learned from Cartoon Network's daytime programming it's that the vast majority of animation is pretty banal
Robot Muscles, Pun a Minute, Conflictions with the canon game series… etc.
The Animation quality is amazingly good, namely shading and the flow of movements.
Personally if you have the time to watch some episodes, you'll find yourself laughing more than anything else. The humor is generally so god awful that your brain shuts off and you'll laugh anyways.
Definately not the WORST, but worth mention.

I would almost agree with you, except for the fact that it's one of my fondest childhood memories (I still have the action figure, even if he is missing an arm) and it has the most extreme opening of any cartoon ever made.
I want everyone that mentioned Jabberjaw and Hong Kong Phooey in this thread shot. Those are two of my favorite cartoons from when I was a kid.
If you read the comments, I was mentioning Hong Kong Phooey in a positive light, not a negative one. I loved HKP.
However, there are two abominations by Hanna-Barbera that I swear I did a double-take when I saw them. The first you all may have seen or heard of:
I have to admit, I LOVED Pac-Man when I was a kid. But recently when they showed the cartoon on Boomerang, I was shocked at how awful it was.
You can tell when a cartoon is really good when it still holds your interest as an adult. A lot of stuff from the 80's really didn't stand the test of time.
Perhaps. It might even have been in that thread a long time ago about eighties cartoons.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that thread.
I think the worst segment is a tossup between the Muppet Babies bailing on the kid and the scene where Huey, Dewey, and Louie basically start screaming a song at him. Bugs Bunny comes across as a dick as well.
Yeah, so was Michelangelo (TMNT). That aspect of it kind of creeped me out when I was a kid. I was like, these are NOT the characters I know. I remember my older sister (who was, incidentally, struggling with drugs at the time) pointing out how much of a dick Bugs Bunny was. XD
(that song they start singing is a crackup)
Basically by having anybody with a opinion contrary to that of the group be invariably wrong.
Mark Evanier mentioned that this was actually a network policy on his website. Here's the quote in question:
Wow, that's almost creepy. I never realized this about 80's cartoons, now I'm going to be looking for this theme everytime I see one.
For what reason were networks pushing this theme? Trying to brainwash kids out of being non-conformist?
(hey wait…isn't One Piece like this? ;D)
I watched that Pelican thing… and sat there for a moment wondering what I had just watched...
That was my initial reaction. I had to watch it a few times before I figured out what was going on at the end. Notice he makes mistakes in the dialogue:
"hey there's a ship, I better fly back to the island and tell them to rescue (uh, whatever his name was, something Bill)." Wha? XD And at one point the wrong voice is coming out of the wrong character, and "Amos's" design (who looks female, but has a male name) is constantly changing.
May I cast one half vote for the final season of Gargoyles, when it moved from afternoon to Saturday morning and lost 90% of the complexity that made it compelling and innovative in the first place. Not so much for how bad it was, but how far it had to fall to get there.
I heard they got rid of the original creators for the last season of Gargoyles, which is why it sucked so much. I remember reading something about the original wanted to make the real season but never got a chance too. But don't quote me on it tho.
Yeah; I understand they're finally issuing a comic series based on the original creator's visions. I should mind and go to a proper comic shop (using the upcoming release of ES21 12 as an excuse)

I have to wonder how much input the various production crews had on this. The vocalists obviously, but the characterizations were so wildly off the mark at times I have to think that they didn't even bother talking to any of the writers for these shows to ask what these characters were supposed to be like.
That's not so bad for some of them, but how in the hell do you mess up Bugs Bunny?
(that song they start singing is a crackup)
I watched it not too long ago, but what I remember most about it is the way that characters seem to lunge out of nowhere at the poor kid. It's like they're deliberately trying to keep him off-balanced and confused.

I think it was some twisted '80s concept of how to better society. Who knows how this sort of thing gets started; possibly as a result of corporate groupthink.
I don't know that all networks directed that this be incorporated into their repertoire; CBS did (at least I think D&D and the Get-Along Gang were on CBS), but I can't speak for the others. It wouldn't surprise me though.
It's not something overt either. It could simply be the notion that the outsider is unpleasant instead of always being wrong, but the implicit message even in the first example would be that nobody likes an outsider.
(hey wait…isn't One Piece like this? ;D)
Considering that Oda is firmly into pinko Commie bastard territory enough that he included a flag burning scene, I'm going to say no.

The difference between conforming and nakama seems to be that, at the end of the day, by collaborating, everyone gets theirs and nobody really seems to be made out as a fool.
I don't recall anyone saying "Look at that twerp Nami, going off to save her village on her own"… if anything, they respected her effort once they knew it.
OMG I was surfing the channels, and I landed on Boomerang. I saw the most asiaxploitated show ever.
It's really ridiculous.
Considering that Oda is firmly into pinko Commie bastard territory enough that he included a flag burning scene, I'm going to say no.
Haha, well, the first thing that came into my mind was Usopp leaving and wanting to do something different apart from everyone else and being wrong. XD Of course, in some ways, he was kind of right, his wrong actions indirectly saved all their lives in the end, but that's another thread's discussion.
OMG I was surfing the channels, and I landed on Boomerang. I saw the most asiaxploitated show ever.
Yeah, I've seen it. That's kind of the times, for you.
"lolz, ethnic stereotypes!"
I've got a lot of stuff on a disc that I may rip and upload. Deciding which one is worse is difficult. Bad, stiffly-animated excercize cartoon for kids, bad sci-fi action hero story, or educational cartoon sponsored by the airforce with kids who's mouths are always covered by a book to save on animtion budget and most of the show is made up from NASA stock footage?
Do not forget the Harlem Globetrotters cartoon.
I forgot the name of the cartoon, but there was one where the animators didn't even animate the lips. Instead, they recorded live-action footage of someone saying the lines and pasted it onto the animation. I think it was an anime.
If you thought the 80's Hanna-Barbara stuff was bad, you should see the 70's stuff. I didn't know they existed until Cartoon Network first started and they showed their entire cartoon library. The cost cutting, the short cut animation such as the ole "scrolling background" technique. And they kept making rip-offs of their own successful shows with the same exact characters and themes(Scooby Doo = Funky Phantom, Clue Club, Chan Clan, etc) for example. Just Horrible.
Here is a short list off the top of my head.
Some obscure Hanna-Barbera 70s cartoons
Country Cats: another one of those Hanna-Barbara cartoon shows that had featured three different cartoons, that were horribly drawn and complete with the Country Cats singing cheesy fake rock songs.
The Romans(cant remember the name): Basically a Flintstone rip-off set during the Roman empire (note: they even did one with a football theme)
Skate Birds: Roller skating live action birds, and had a cartoon called THe Robotic Three Stooges
@OP:
- M.A.S.K
- first TMNT cartoon
- Captain N: cartoon based on Nintendo 64 characters and even introduced Game Boy…as a character
- Silverhawks
Okay, WTH are you thinking, these are some of the best American cartoons from the 80's!!! You cannot tell me that Mobile Armored Strike Kommand was crap… vehicles that change into battle machines & awesome cutscenes when the helmets are attached... that show was an underrated classic... Ninja Turles, are you serious? I don't even have to say anything about this show... Captain N had Simon Belmont & Megaman, with THE FREAKIN' EGGPLANT WIZARD!!! Also, Silverhawks was created by the studio that made Thundercats!!! C'mon, seriously, you didn't even back up your opinion as to why you think these are bad... I really want to hear your thoughts...

I assume your thinking of Clutch Cargo. It had next to no animation and tried every shortcut in the book to stay on a budget lower then your average Hanna Barbera cartoon.

Those shows are all legitimately bad
Hehe, I loved TMNT when I was a kid, but rewatching those episodes now…YUCK. But they're definately not in the "worst" category, there's so much worse out there. If you want to see some really bad cartoons, watch Boomerang when they show those 70's superhero type of cartoons.

While flicking through channels I came across boomerang and thought I'd check some of these terrible cartoons out. It was about 3.00am and they were showing something called "Gadget boy" and it was terrible. I thought it would be like inspector gadget but this was just poor, words cannot explain it.
Another really awful cartoon worth mentioning… Mortal Kombat, the animated version. Ugh...! I'd provide clips, but Youtube is being a poop right now XD
I love Catdog and all who disagree are blasphemous.
Gary Coleman.

Ugh, I caught that once and I thre up in my own mouth. I don't know if the show was bad in particular, but as a longtime Inspector Gadget fan I was disgusted.
I remember… I think it was A&E had a show called INSPECTOR GADGET'S FIELD TRIP where he'd guide the viewer through exotic locals. I loved it.

Cattanooga Cats actually, which is occasionally on Boomerang. And yes, the rock songs were indeed
in a way that could only be made by thirty and forty year old men attempting to think like .I think. The only clip I see on Youtube is the Portugese opening. The Romans(cant remember the name): Basically a Flintstone rip-off set during the Roman empire (note: they even did one with a football theme)
Anyway, wasn't it more like a blend of Wait Til Your Father Gets Home-style sitcom plots and The Flintstones-style anachronistic humor than simply a Flintstones ripoff?

People who think the Banana Splits were awful should
. One of them appears to be a Gonzo ripoff.People who think the Banana Splits were awful should

wow i would like to say i hate both of those shows equally.
Also it pains me to say it, the Samurai Pizza Cats, Looks like crap to me now and i lov that show
Ugh, the Cattanooga Cats. I caught that once by accident and it creeped the shit out of me.
I wanna see the Robotic Stooges now.
Street Sharks. The action figures were badass, and so I thought that the show would be great. Even as a little kid I thought that cheesy catchphrases like "jawsome" were dumb. It was like… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, only with more "edge" than that show ever thought it had.
@Cap'n:
I wanna see the Robotic Stooges now.
It's pretty out there. I saw one of them where the villain was Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As part of the transformation process, his head did a 180 (accompanied by a grinding sound that actually sounded like his neck was breaking), and he started lumbering backwards like Frankenstein's monster. I can't recall if they actually had his arms upside down or if the animators screwed up by having them look normal.
That probably scarred quite a few kids back in the day.
I like how they model their perfect robots after the Three Stooges and expect nothing to go wrong
For me, the worst cartoon I remember was Dinozaurs. It had an opening that implied an intense action show. But the show itself had atrocious dialog.
The first episode had a museum currator encouraging teenagers to introduce themselves to a fossil display. (These kids later learn that these fossils happen to be planet protectors who know know their names because of the said introduction.)
And my most projectile vomiting inducing dialog set…
Old cat lady:You're not hurting my cat are you?
Teens:Oh no, this cat looked lost! We always help cats in need!
Old cat lady: I guess I can forgive you then. I hope your not lying about helping cats.
It was something like that. But I just remember how much it talked down to anyone who watched it.
Oh come on now.
This isn't the "cartoons I just happen to hate" thread. 12 ounce mouse I can see, but Ben 10 and My Gym Partner's a Monkey are like Shakespeare compared to some of the stuff already posted in this thread. Tell me WHY they're bad.
Part of it is the humor. A lot of the stuff on Ben 10 and MGPAM are just … not funny. That's just me. =S
And sorry for ranting without giving an explaination.
@Aoi:

Fixed.
But even so, they don't have enough badness to be the worst cartoon ever.
Atleast Ben10 has some good fight scenes at least. Reminds me of JLU for some reason.
With the craptastic dialogue and plot, I can't watch enough of the show to judge on the fight scenes.
@Le:

Haha, very true. Although I don't actively watch it, I usually flip through channels all day and just happen to come across a fight.

I think you just made my points for me. TMNT started off okay and then it got stupider and stupider with each passing episode. Silverhawks looked like the used the same scenes over and over again. Captain N went from blatantly commercial to shamelessly commercial when they introduce Gameboy…as a character.

Yes, after Space Ghost and Birdman, things go horribly wrong. I remember Frankenstein Jr. Guh!!!!
@Ubiq:

Thanks I couldn’t think of the title, it’s been a long time. Back in those days, every show had rock song montages

Actually I change my mind on Roman Holidays. I think I was more miffed at Hanna-Barbera for making the same cartoon with different themes. They have made A LOT of them
Hell, the Jetsons follow the same damn formula.
Behold!
EDIT: One more card to play, although I'm not sure it counts…
Terrible childhood memories….
Street Sharks. The action figures were badass, and so I thought that the show would be great. Even as a little kid I thought that cheesy catchphrases like "jawsome" were dumb. It was like… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, only with more "edge" than that show ever thought it had.
Dude… Isn't that the show with the streets? And the sharks?
Ben 10 had potential but then I realised it was a show for small children.
Wulin Warriors needs to die horribly and so do the Jetsons. I hated that show, it was boring and monotonous.
Mr. T is awesome.
Harlem Globetrotters and Snow White is the best thing I've seen.
Biker Mice From Mars was one of those things that even my 8-10 year old self was able to detect as "compeltely fucking garbage" and stay away from.
Woah. The Jetsons kick ass. Eep opp ork ah ah all the way. Mr Spacely owns you all.
The movie….i rewatched it on CN and two things were wrong about it- Jodies voice was different and the Earth Day feel.
Chuck Norris...when Adult Swim showed it I got up for a half hour to watch it.
Ewoks the Cartoon...even when i was 5 I hated them. When I weatched ROTJ I always fast fowarded to Luke vs Vader. The show sucked.
I always found The Jetsons to be terribly boring and I hated all of the characters and wanted Mr. Spacely to bulldoze their house
Mr. Spacely was my favorite part of The Jetsons. I wanted to kill the robot maid. Her accent annoyed the crap out of me.
The Jetsons was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I still remember some of the episodes very vividly. Like the one where George is given a device that can rewind and rewrite time, and by accident, out of rage and jealousy against his old "rival" for Jane, he screwed up and rewrote his marriage out of his life. In the end he kind of learned to accept problematic situations for what they were, knowing you have to take the bad with the good and so forth. It made an impact on me at a young age.
I have to saw this thread reminnded me of my old childhood and the CN glory days.
Four Years ago CN started to decline. During Christmas I always found time to watch Mr. Magoo's Christmas, Yogi's Christmas, Jetsons Christmas, The two Flintstones Christmases, and The PAC MAN CHRISTMAS. Now all they have is the Grinch.
On another note yes, many of the Megaman episodes weren't that well scripted, but God that was great, even though it was apparent that the creators never beat Megaman 5, seeing how Protoman/Blues is a villan. I even bought the boxset of it. Those guys were perfect. Scot McNeil IS Wily. The guy who voice Light IS Dr. Light. Hell the three things that pissed me off about it were Airman's Design, the lack of Protoman/Blue's sheild, and Rush. The best quote in the whole show was on the first episode. "Oh no! Not Rock and Roll!"
HR Pufnstuf…I litterally rewatched that opening and have still not stopped laughing.
@Anime:
Woah. The Jetsons kick ass. Eep opp ork ah ah all the way.
You know, I wasn't aware until recently that that song was performed by Ernest T. Bass. Learn something every day I guess.
Like the one where George is given a device that can rewind and rewrite time, and by accident, out of rage and jealousy against his old "rival" for Judy, he screwed up and rewrote his marriage out of his life.
If George had an old rival for Judy, then the Jetsons were far more messed up than I remember.
Jane, maybe. Judy? Ew.
LOL yes Jane, I don't know how I got that mixed up, must be from typing in the Lolicon thread or something. XD THEY BOTH START WITH J DUHR
If Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos and that Mr. T cartoon made a crossover episode, the head of everyone on Earth would explode. Seriously.
I would LOVE to see that. XD
