Just to be clear, just because Zoro is worried about directions it doesn’t mean he isn’t lost. He worries about directions specifically because he is lost all the time. He’s always worried about finding the ship and the others. Doesn’t seem out of character for me.

@electricmastro It certainly is, but it's suspicious how Oda tries to mislead us into thinking this is the big one by calling it Yggdrasil. If it was just another tree, why does it have the name of the mythological World Tree? And if this is One Piece world's Yggdrasil, what's the big tree in the part of Elbaf we were shown previously? Between that and the humans wearing giant clothes, it all seems set up to look like Elbaf without necessarily being the home of the giants we saw Shanks visiting and Big Mom growing up in.
I'm not saying for sure we're in a fully different place - there's not enough evidence either way to be ride or die for any one theory - but we'd be fools to rule it out entirely.
-
@Captain-M I saw a theory in Reddit that this "Yggdrasil" may be just a branch of the real tree, not its canopy. I think it made a lot of sense, since we know Elbaf is a nation in a bigger whole called Warland. So, this may be another nation in Warland, but it's not Elbaf.
It also matches perfectly with Franky's description of the Adam Tree:
-
@Deicide I like this, it's a fun idea and would be creative worldbuilding.
And great potential for a 'panel of the year' contender shot when the camera finally pulls out to show the position on the larger tree.
-
For a throwaway theory I don't think I've seen pitched yet: what if Kuma is responsible for the weirdness with everyone's locations. Either on some personal directive or in response to a threat he's awakened and used his powers to fling the Sunny and some of its crew to their current locations, and the Great Erik off course.
No one remembers because of the alcohol, and no one suspects because he's otherwise been catatonic.
And it would explain why Bonney, logically the only one not drinking, didn't speak up. Maybe she thinks the others won't understand or will blame him for their difficult situation and she wants to protect him. Or if he's operating on his own agenda, he may have requested her silence.
Could be the first step back to the awakening of his mind and a happy ending to the Bonney/Kuma story.
-
@Captain-M Yes, it's a great theory, and it may explain how the Straw Hats got there: if they are in a branch of the tree, then maybe a giant bird caught the Sunny?
-
Leave it to Oda to keep people guessing whether or not we’ve actually arrived at the long-awaited Elbaf, despite assumptions that he’s rushing the manga. lol
-
If there is a giant tree, then I guess giant birds are not impossible.
Especially since the actual Yggdrasil myth does mention a giant bird (Veorfolnir) that lives perched atop an even gianter eagle living in the canopy. It's the inspiration for Yveltal.
-
@King-Cannon There is the Eagle at the top, the Dragon at the roots, and the Squirrel on the trunk.
-
I was wondering when we’d see the lion lion fruit
Wasn’t expecting a giant cat king to have it lol
-
I'm expecting more Elbaf women, which this chapter was lacking in.
-
I have a feeling this cat will turn out to be important and/or reccurring character in this arc or in the whole of Warland... Kind of a companion.
-
Ok my take:
Something is amiss
-
Inconsitencies in Oda drawings which are too obvious blunders.
Luffy goes frm sword to axe to missing a weapon all together. -
Looks like someone is playing with lego toys
Castle is for himan sized people cat in in it like.it was a small playhouse fr it.
Then cat transforms + has a crown.
Nah something isnt ok and title of the chapter itself is a clue for it. Land of Mystery?
-
-
@Deicide Curious but have we ever seen Luffy saying "the food doesn't look tasty"?
I do remember very well that before entering Arabasta Luffy was ready to cook a sacred cat in the ocean because he was very hungry so I don't see any reason for why he wouldn't have this specific cat exactly.
I'm not saying it's not possible for him to pass on food but from Chapter 1 we have been shown that he's the kinda guy who would never miss on meat even if he is full and now this isn't the case over here?
If you are right though and these dialogues are just normal but there's no previous examples of Luffy missing on food then I'd take this interaction as a progression in Luffy after seeing the situation in Wano.
-
@Deicide Kinda like that snake in Skyepia?
-
I must confess that Deicide's theory that this chapter presents a fake Elbaf is extremely convincing.
The fact that it is an hallucination is not very convincing when there is a joke about it with Usopp. But I agree that Nami's clima-tact form change is weird. As for the chapter itself, even if it is nice to have some crew interaction, Oda is using the same old pot as usual. Apparently he even cloned a panel from Arabasta. Does he lack that much of new ideas for the crew ?
-
I read up somewhere on Twitter that Nami called Luffy, Zoro, Sanji & Ussop because these are the guys who she trusts the most due to Arlong Park.
I find that interesting.
-
@blueinthespace Yes, kinda like that, thought the first example that came to my mind was Speed in Wano, which was a quick antagonist that ended up appearing again and helping in the end.
@blueinthespace said in Chapter 1127: Adventure in the Land of Mystery:

Luffy doesn't eat every beast he meets on his way. He defeated the cat, considered eating it, but went "nah, doesn't look tasty, I'm good". He just ate a rabbit, it's not like he's hungry.
-
@Deicide Yea, he doesn't eat everything along the way but this is a still a new response from Luffy imo where when asked he is denying the food from someone else.
Until now, I always thought Luffy would never deny any food when asked/given until it's not edible like that hard fruit in Skyepia he dropped on Ussop in Angle Beach.
This is why I said it is maybe because of Wano where he saw how lots of people suffering from hunger and that might have led him to a subtle change where he would try to sometime skip on food when asked because he isn't hungry.
It can be exactly like you are saying though and maybe I'm just looking too deep into it.
-
I think Luffy passed the chance of eating the cat because the cat will eventually be a character. Even might have a Devil Fruit and all. It’s the same as Luffy passing on the chance of eating Chopper all these years, doesn’t seem out of character.
-
@Chams-0 Chopper is his friend and we have seen that they were trying to eat him until he found out something interesting in that reindeer.
The cat though is just an animal with nothing like that.
-
@blueinthespace sometimes Luffy tames or befriends animals instead of eating them. The lion, gorilla and Croc from Rusukaina come to mind, as well as Cerberus in Thriller Bark. Luffy sparing the cat is a signal for me to think the cat will become a friend. Besides, this cat wears a crown and turns into a lion, so maybe Luffy’s instinct classified him as too cool to eat.
-
@Deicide I can somewhat agree but that depends on where Oda takes this cat to from here.
Random note but I remember seeing this cat in one of the colorspread of pretimeskip so maybe Oda is using some old design he had in mind here.
-
@blueinthespace it’s from a “Pirates Iron Soccer” pre-timeskip colorspread. I don’t know the chapter, but saw someone pointing it out in Reddit.

He just met the cat though. He doesn't eat his friends, so when did he establish friendship?

So, does anyone know if the official OP account has tweeted out any inconsistencies that might be corrected in the volume? Some of the more recent ones that I remember off the top off my head:
- S-Bear having black hair instead of white hair in his first appearance
- Atlas being presented as both Vegapunk 05 and Vegapunk 06 in the same chapter
- Umit Cargo Shipping being a Maritime company instead of a Navy company (this one is from 1126 if I recall)
For each of these, they issued a tweet explaining the mistake. Have they done anything for this chapter's inconsistencies, like the Gear 3/Gear 4 attack, the mismatchs in the outfits, etc?
If not, more fuel to the fire for the hallucination theory. -
I was usually up to date with such things once, but now Twitter is banned around here, so I have no idea.
-
@Deicide Are you from Brazil?
Anyways, do you remember any panel in OP in which the character's body part is going out of frame?
Had to ask this because in one of the panels the claws of the cat is going outside the frame and something like this hasn't even happened with Gear 5 so maybe this is some type of hint from Oda idk.
-
@blueinthespace yes, I’m brazilian.
I can’t recall Oda playing with panels like that. Maybe he plans to keep doing so in this arc, like how he started drawing more asses for Egghead or how eyes popping out of the skull became a thing after G5. It may be his new “toy”.
-
Regarding Ygdrassil and its size, Occam's razor would suggest that the lego city is just very far away from the tree. The lego building is clearly a seperate area from the Elbaf we've seen with Mother Caramel and Shanks, which was more traditionally viking. We don't know how big Elbaf is, so its possible that the lego side of town is on the complete opposite side of the island and we are going to have the straw hat 5(6 if chopper) adventuring across all of Elbaf to reach Ygdrassil and reunite with the rest of the crew (who will likely dock near where shanks was). I imagine Saul is also closer to the tree so Oda moving the straw hats over here is partly to delay them getting to meet up with him.

If it was the case, they wouldn't need to worry about the fire reaching the tree.
Besides, the tree is a good chunk of the island. We'd need to be kilometers into sea to see the canopy like in this chapter. I wouldn't be surprised if the canopy is above the clouds.

We don't know what it looks like from the other side. As far as we know Elbaf is a very loooong island and we are on the furthest point. That is a good point about the fire but maybe they're just being overly worried? I can't imagine the straw hats are close enough to that tree for any fire they make to affect it, unless Oda's playing with our perspective and the order of events.
There's deffo a lot of odd stuff going on in this chapter.
-
I guess it's possible that what we're seeing is merely a branch of Yggdrasil instead of the whole tree and that the buildings, the castle and everything is actually in the tree. If I remember Norse mythology, Yggdrasil connected worlds together. Perhaps different species live on/in its branches? Still doesn't explain the inconsistencies in the chapter except if they are experiencing reality but some things are hallucinations like the cat turning into a lion or Nami's climatact shape shifting, while others like the castle and buildings are in fact real. Also, if I remember correctly, Luffy doesn't even like alcohol, is it even proven that he drank the absinth?
-
If the theory that Elbaf/Warland is an island that contains many different kingdoms and nations, could it be possible that Saul is originally from there? He said he isn’t the same as the barbarians from Elbaf, but he was the leader of Hajruddin and other young giant pirates. So maybe he still had some connection to them. Now that he’s alive, maybe we can get a little backstory, and learn why he joined the navy.
-
@Chams-0 I've been thinking about it, it's very possible that there is at least one more giant nation in Warland. However, Hajrudin is clearly from Elbaf, and as far as we know Saul is in Elbaf and met Dorry and Brogy, so it's possible that despite being from another nation he chose to ally with the warriors of Elbaf.
Another, and darker, possibility, is that Saul is from Elbaf but was smuggled to the World Government by Mother Carmel when he was still very young. As such, he may have been taught to distrust the Elbaf warriors, but when he turned against the government he decided to seek them.
-
@Deicide Random question but do you think Nami will steal Pandora similar to how she took Zeus away in some way?
-
@blueinthespace Pandoria is the fire homie made by Carmel, right? I've seen a theory that she's the "Sun God" the people talk about in this chapter, but for now I'm more inclined to think Pandora is long gone. We don't know how homies' life spans work, even though they appear to be able to outlive their creators.
Thematically speaking, Nami never had fire powers. And her heat balls have been lasted used as direct attacks in... Enies Lobby, I think? She usually uses them just to manipulate atmospheric effects, so she can combine heat and cold to make clouds and such. Weatheria tech and Zeus basically replaced her old climatact.
I also find it unlikely for Nami to get a second homie, because it would feel like it's just a plot beat being repeated.

We saw that Prometheus and Zeus together (during Whole Cake) could affect the weather at a far greater range than Nami can currently, so Pandora would allow Nami to tap into that potential.
And really, Nami doesn't really have better opportunities to grow stronger save a newer Climatact.
-
The tree being Yggdrasil makes perfect sense for it to have „worlds“ on it’s branches and connecting everything. What also makes sense is Yggdrasil being the „Summit of High West“ mentioned by Gan Fall, a safe way to reach the Sky Islands.
-
is Yggdrasil potentially the Adam tree?
if not potential upgrades for the Sunny? -
@blueinthespace said in Chapter 1127: Adventure in the Land of Mystery:
This is such a good point.
Pretty sure Luffy is wearing his straw hat below his helmet.
